"Duskstar, you have made a horrible decision to exile me. You have hurt me. More than anybody ever could. I never meant to hurt any cat. The only reason I ever hurt them was because I could not control my anger. All of my denmates were already apprentices, and I wanted to be just like them. Go on patrols, and learn how to hunt and fight. But you have made your decision. But I will not respect that. I will not leave!Shadow yowled furiously.

Regardless of Robinflight's personal concerns about banishing a kit, his leader had made a solid, unwavering decision. The tortoiseshell tom would stand by his Clan no matter what. A growl rose in his throat when the kit spoke, "Leave, you scrap!"

A low growl rose in his throat as Breezekit once again refused orders and threatened Duskstar. "Excuse me for a moment," he muttered to Cormorantpaw, and then he got to his paws and stalked over to Breezekit, only stopping a few tail-lengths away. "Duskstar told you to leave, and you came back," he growled. "Now you threaten ThunderClan's leader. If you can't control your anger, don't be an irritating brat and get yourself yelled at. It's that simple. And now that you refuse to leave, you are a danger to ThunderClan." He hated the idea of hurting a kit, but Duskstar's decision still stood, and now this child had the audacity to refuse. Even if he would never use them against her, he allowed his claws to scrape the dirt. All support he had held for this vicious scrap of fur was gone. "It would be a very bad idea to disobey Duskstar again."

For once, Duskstar was glad when Buckbranch piped up. Finally her Clan was seeing her decision. She stared silently toward Breezekit [ Breezefur ] for multiple moments, fury blatant on her expression. What a stubborn little lump of pure assery.

"Leave, or we will make you."

Birdchatter had to chortle a little at Buckbranch and how personally he took his comments. If it didn't help fuel the situation, he wouldn't have bothered-- he had no qualms with Buckbranch and hardly knew anything about the tom other than he was a former deputy who seemed to have some burrs stuck in his pelt, as evident with this meeting.

"I 'oi' who I want lad, and throw pebbles where I will." He didn't see the issue in tossing some stones-- though he was beginning to see why Quillpaw had chucked one at Buckbranch. Birdchatter had been intentional in how he threw it, knowing it wouldn't have hit a cat. Some cats just wanted to be midges.

Besides, even if he hit this cat Birdchatter didn't think it mattered. She was an exile who didn't understand the concept of 'no.' "If you think all of your former denmates are apprentices you must have wasps in your brain! We said scram, repeatedly-- you're not going to change that now."

A large growl rumbled through the ruddy-furred she got up once more. This time though, not wincing at the pain of her body. Her tail lashed violently, all this apprentice wanted to do was claw that arrogant little face off. Duskpaw limped forward towards the tiny pain in the ass. "Didn't you here them? Leave!" Her claws unsheathed and clawed at the ground.

“Yep! Are you ready to learn?” Speckledrose was almost ready to bounce all over the clearing from her excitement. She just couldn’t help it!

As Hawkmist looked on at the events, he felt something. Pity. A kit couldn’t survive out there properly. They can’t even hunt! And rogues would be sure to attack them. It was a death sentence. But that wasn’t going to be evidence enough to help. Hawkmist searched through his memories, until he reached the warrior code. He never really cared too much, but there had to be... something. Then... he reached it. He closed the memories in his mind and turned to Ebonywing.

“You must help a kit in danger, regardless of Clan.”

The two paused for a moment. Maybe... maybe someone could have looked after the kit, try not to cause them to go... evil. That is when Hawkmist got an idea.

“I’ll be right back.”

His voice was a mere whisper, and he carefully sneaked away.

The little tabby she-cat could not stop apologising although the other cat told her she was fine. That was when she scented the air and realised that it wasn't just any cat she'd run into... No it was the deputy! Mortification ran through her fur and she started shaking again, anxiety and fear reeking from her scent as she just stood there and shook and wavered back and forth. Why why why... First she'd had to talkkk to Duskstar.. And now! She ran into the deputy. It was all too much for Doepaw whose legs collapsed under her as she went directly down to the ground, wishing that she could just disappear right down it and just get away. But she couldn't ... she'd somehow landed up directly in front of their deputy... His name was Flintspirit wasn't it? She was unsure and was too afraid to voice his name was she to get it wrong.. Like she'd gotten so many other things wrong just today, her first day back after that horrible horrible situation. But then he asked about her name and she was thoroughly unclear on how to answer it and what it would take.. Like would he need her name to go report to Duskstar? To her new mentor perhaps? She had to ask him. "Ehmm.... Wha.... Wha... What woould... would you... use.. my name... for? Would... you. you.. say anything... to my.. mentor... or Dusk? Amm... I.. In trouble?" She was so anxiety ridden that she was shaking with every word and spoke haphazardly, stuttering. She was afraid of what would come of it and she shook even more as she laid there on the ground, her body vibrating. But she felt like she had to reply to his main question and then blinked her blind eyes, the darkness still there, it was as calm as ever. Taking in deep breaths, she tried to speak evenly without her stutter. "I am... Doepaw. Doepaw.. That's... that's.. my name."

Cormorantpaw didn’t like being chastised at all, but he’d he had been fully aware of the expected outcome when he spat at Quillpaw. He stood by his decision, though- that cat had it coming. Cormorantpaw sullenly walked away as Buckbranch told him to sit somewhere and wait for him and the young apprentice’s tail dragged in the dirt. He was still so angry at the cat for throwing a pebble at Buckbranch- I mean, really, how immature can you get! He accepted, of course, Buckbranch’s anger and would accept any punishment that came with his actions, but he couldn’t regret them. Sitting with his head hanging like a chastised apprentice should, Cormorantpaw still muttered curses and glared around whenever he could.
He kept up with everything going on easily while waiting for his mentor, and witnessed the small disagreement between Birdchatter and Buckbranch about pebble throwing. The black and grey tom’s head snapped up as he heard of pebble throwing and witnessed Birdchatter antagonize Buckbranch and Cormorantpaw fixed a blazing amber glare on the other cat, even as Buckbranch walked up to him. It took him a moment to rip his glare away from Birdchatter over Buckbranch’s shoulder, but he finally did turn his eyes onto his mentor’s when Buckbranch spoke sternly. Frowning, Cormorantpaw reluctantly opened his mouth to answer immediately despite his distaste for having to do so- he might still be mad but he would answer his mentor’s questions as soon as they were given as an apprentice should. The young tom never got the chance to do so, however, as Buckbranch almost immediately got up again, excuses himself, and walked towards Duskstar and the exiled kit. Cormorantpaw would have liked to tell Breezekit off too for starting this whole commotion and for blatant disrespect, though he still wasn’t sure how he felt about exiling a kit, but something told him Buckbranch wouldn’t be happy to see him over there. Instead, Cormorantpaw turned his attention to Birdchatter [ BILL. ]

Checking to make sure that Buckbranch was occupied, Cormorantpaw got up and walked over to Birdchatter with his tail thrashing angrily. The young apprentice scowled at the warrior and said, “I don’t think throwing rocks at cats is very Warrior-like. It was immature when Quillpaw did it and it was immature when you did it, not that Breezekit didn’t have it coming... But I’m on my mentor’s side!” Obviously, Cormorantpaw’s opinion on the matter probably meant very little, but, in his anger, the apprentice felt the need to say something. He had a definite vendetta for pebble throwing now that Quillpaw had cracked Buckbranch in the side of the head by throwing pebbles.

Pinekit lay in the darkest corner of camp, as far away from the meeting as possible, invisible to everyone. She didn't want cats to see her. A thick leafy thornbush that was part of the camp wall covered her almost comepletely. She lay flat, her face pressed to her front paws. It was the only way to hide her violent sobbing. She desperately tried not to lash her tail. She wished she could tune out everything that was going on. Eventually, she let her mind slip into thought, thus becoming oblivious to the world around her. Her sobbing stopped and her face grew emotionless. Even through her white and calico fur she seemed deathly pale. All she could think about was how sad everyting was.

She just wanted to check up on him after meeting with Softbriar awhile back. She still wasn't sure if she was handling this properly, but neither of her children had had anything negative to say about their meeting afterwards. In hindsight maybe trying for another life changing meeting at a gathering and hoping for the same connection to spark there as it did for she and Ploverspot was the wrong way to go about this.

She was just asking about his well being and how he and his apprentice were settling when the young tom in question came bounding over with a spark in their eye focused solely on Ploverspot. It sent a nervous, contentment fluttering in her gut. Her son still hadn't filled her in on the whole story of their defection. but the look he had cut her at the gathering had her understanding it was a topic he wasn't quite ok with disclosing with her. Shadedpath had felt an overbearing stab that she might have gone too far, crossing a boundry she shouldn't have in trying to be more open. Even with her own kits she felt cold and awkward and out of place trying to show affection or worry towards them. It was like her body was actively fighting against her mind.

She hoped her need to know how he was wasn't effecting Plover negatively. Scraping her claws across the ground in that anxious habit of hers she focused in on Myrtlepaw, stuttering and nervous and just a little bit frightened by her and it sent a spark of fear down her own spine.

Her eyes widened just slightly at Myrtlepaw, lost in the visage of a tiny Ploverkit after she would shove him away and the old she-cat tensed up. Was she scaring them? Did she look threatening, did he think she was going to hurt him? No, no, no, no, she didn't want him to be nervous around her. That wasn't what she was hoping for. She just wanted to make a good impression! She hasn't even said one word to the younger cat and she had already failed.

Ploverspot had indeed been in deep conversation with Shadedpath and as he looked at Myrtle's absolutely terrified expression the apprentice carried. He couldn't help but let out a soft laugh. The apprentice needed to get over his separation issues but he didn't expect him to get over them immediately. As Myrtle started questions Plover just gestured to him and curled his tail around the apprentice pushing him closer to Shaded. "This.. This is my mother Myrtlepaw. Her name is Shadedpath and that was one of the reasons as to why she was so interested in seeing me. When I met her at the last gathering I didn't talk to her much, and never voiced the idea about going to Thunderclan. So as you see, she was extremely surprised to see me coming into camp, and with an apprentice in tow nonetheless." He nodded at Shaded and then looked at his mother closer and he spotted the guilt, knowing well where she was going in her mind. "Mom.. Don't. Don't fall into the trap. Myrtle here is just afraid of strangers. Even back in Shadowclan he's never been good around others. His parents died before he got to know them well and I took him in. Just... Don't fall into the trap of misery that I know you dislike. Now that Myrtle is here I actually think you two should get to know each other... And he was one of the reasons I left Shadowclan. He was the main factor for us defecting to Thunderclan and I just want him to have a better life, have a better upbringing and... and I did indeed wish him to have a mother figure in his life. I am old Shaded, I will never find a mate like you had... So I am giving you a chance to help me, by being a figure in Myrtlepaw's life. If you would like that of course little one," the last part being directed at the russet apprentice.

In fact, she did the exact opposite. Shadow turned her head toward the place the wind was blowing from, and stared off into the distance. The Rogue could almost hear the rip of fur from her former Clanmates. She could almost feel the rip of their fur in her claws. Shadow hated them. "You will regret this,Duskstar." the she-cat snarled. Buckbranch swelled with fury, back arched and fur bushed as he bared his teeth. He'd never felt this angry at a kit before, but this traitorous, manipulative little brat deserved it. How dare she try to get other kits caught up in her mess? It was an awful thing to do! "Don't you dare try to rope other cats into this!" he snarled, sending a glance back at Pinekit. "And if you have any sense, you will. Leave. NOW. Do not anger ThunderClan anymore than you already have, Breezekit. If you come back, you'll be facing an army of claws." He took a step forward, own silver claws flashing in the sunlight as if to demonstrate exactly what he meant. He made a mental note to check on Pinekit later and see if she was alright.
As the insubordinate child aimed a blow at Duskstar, he flew forward, sheathing his claws, and aimed to pin her down with one of his forepaws, a terrifying snarl erupting from his throat. "Don't you EVER dare to lay a claw on Duskstar." He hated the thought of harming a child, but Breezekit had gone too far to have any sort of pity from him now.

Was a kit just... exiled? Whatever it was, Spottyfly felt it wasn't right. But he couldn't just leave Frostkit- no, paw.

Chillstep and Chillhop looked from their leader to Spottyfly, their isolated brother.

Cloudsound was simply staring at Breezekit's banishment in a mixture anger and shock.

Spottyfly made eye contact with Chillstep, and nodded. Chillstep could tell Spottyfly agreed that banishing a kit was too far, and believing that a kit could be too unruly to become dangerous in the future was mousebrained. Not that any of them would say so out loud.

Cloudsound, Chillstep, and Chillhop began to whisper among themselves.

Cormorantpaw realized that the altercation was heating up and quickly trotted over, forgetting what Buckbranch has said about staying put. It’s not like he’d done so anyway, since he’d went over to Bidchatter. The tom stopped by Pinekit and put a paw around her gently, “are you ok, Pinekit?” he asked in a friendly yet somber tone, “you did the right thing. Breezekit won’t be able to hurt you, so don’t worry.”
Cormorantpaw caught sight of Breezekit aiming to attack Duskstar and leapt to his paws. He ran to the leader before hearing Pinekit’s response or thinking over the fact that he was young and untrained and there was a clan full of warriors who would run to their leader too. Cormorantpaw didn’t have to get involved but he’d never been able to stop himself from trying to protect other cats, even though he wasn’t equipped to do so. “How dare you try to attack Duskstar?” He seethed at his former den mate, unsheathing his own claws though he had never been trained how to use them. Tail lashing and eyes fixed into a glare, Cormorantpaw stood beside Buckbranch as his mentor reached to subdue Breezekit and he placed his body to block her way into the clan. If she wanted to escape Buckbranch’s paws, Breezekit would have to run into the territory now that Cormorantpaw has positioned himself on the other side of Duskstar.
“Enough with the idle threats, Breezekit. You brought this on yourself and now you’ll never be able to harm this clan again. “ Duskstar had been right, she was a menace to the clan. While he’d been worried about the survival of the kit, Cormorantpaw agreed that she could have found another clan to join. There had been no need to attack clan mates and Duskstar and disobey her former leader’s orders. Breezekit could’ve just joined another clan. But, now Cormorantpaw hoped that once Thunderclan had driven her from their lands that Duskstar would warn the other leaders not to accept her into their clans.

Duskstar flinched back as claws came down on her muzzle, her ears flattening. She growled lowly, her eyes blazing with fury as she watched Buckbranch launch himself toward Breezekit. All attempts at peace had fallen now that she had been attacked first. Breezekit was too dangerous to be allowed to roam the forest. Duskstar's tail lashed, glancing toward Pinekit. Breezekit had even tried to bring her denmates into her twisted mess.
She would allow this no longer.
Claws unsheathed, she launched herself forward, dashing past her Clanmates. Just before Breezekit could get out of camp, she grabbed the kit's scruff and yanked her back pinning her down with a paw to her chest. Duskstar snarled, "You will not be a danger any longer. Disobeying your former leader, attacking multiple cats, trying to bring another kit into your mess..."
With a quick move, Duskstar leaned down and snapped her jaws around Breezekit's throat, biting as hard as she could. She felt blood pulse into her mouth, reeling back as soon as it had happened. Sickening. Her stomach turned at the taste, a nauseous feeling swirling within her. But she stood up straight and looked down at the kit.
Breezekit was dead.
Duskstar had done this for the safety of the Clan. For the safety of the forest. Although she still felt sick about it.
Taking a deep breath, the leader looked up toward Buckbranch [ Slushie ]. "Take her body out into the forest. Dispose of her wherever and however you want." With that, she let her gaze pass over the crowd, ignoring the
taste of blood that still clung to her tongue as she made her way back to the Highpeak. Duskstar returned to her former position above it, though she stumbled slightly with nausea. She sat down, though, and raised her head to continue the meeting.

"We must continue.

"I am sad to announce that our lovely warrior Bluegorse was taken by wolverines. We will hold a vigil for him at Sundown. For now, his former apprentice, Aspenpaw must receive a new mentor. Aspenpaw, please step forward.

"You are not the only apprentice who requires a new mentor. Doepaw [ Arie ] has returned to us from being missing, and must also continue her training. Doepaw, please step forward."

"Good riddance." The tan she laid down again, covering her leg once more. Flicking her ear she noticed Pinekit, the poor kit almost got dragged into being killed by her former den mate. She couldn't imagine what the kit was going through. Betrayal, fear, denial, sorrow. Just to name a few. The apprentice's eyes wandered up to the she that was beside her. Foxbound. Her mentor. Duskpaw hoped she was okay after Duskstar killed Breezekit. That kit was a menance and deserved everything she got. And, if she was to be kept alive, she would be an danger to ThunderClan. Looking up at Duskstar, it was amazing how the meeting could just go on like nothing happened but, things did need to be done.

"N-no..." whispered Pinekit. Her eyes were wide with fear. Breezekit...
Her mind was reeling. All her rage, sorrow and raw emotion were building up in her throat. She chocked out a few muffled gasps.

At the sound of Cormorantpaw's voice, Buckbranch whipped his head around to glare down at his apprentice, and in doing so lifted his paw away from Breezekit to push the young cat back. "Cormorantpaw, WHAT did I-"
He froze in his tracks as he saw from the corner of his eye, Duskstar spring forward and clamp her jaws around Breezekit's throat and bite down. All feeling completely left his body as he stared, wide-eyed, at the blood streaming from the kit's broken body. "Great skies, Duskstar..."
He stepped forward with shaking paws to block Breezekit from Cormorantpaw's line of sight, and with a voice that sounded like something had shattered deep inside him, told his apprentice, "Go back to where I told you to stand. Please."
Then he reached down and gingerly picked the body up by its scruff. His stomach twisted and rolled with nausea as he tasted coppery blood on his tongue. A mixture of emotions swept through him all at once - fury, regret, shock, disgust, and many more, though he couldn't tell at all what they meant or who they were for. He couldn't even begin to describe his opinion on the matter now. At first he had been sympathetic for Breezekit, and then he had been angry at her for threatening his Clan. Now she was dead, killed by Duskstar, and the fact that he had no idea how to feel about it - and was on the border of not caring at all - scared him.
Sickened by the feeling of kit blood dripping down his chest, he quickly made for the camp's entrance, only barely hearing Duskstar continue the announcement. All he wanted to do was finish this task quickly.

Everything happened so fast. He’d barely processed Buckbranch’s paw on his chest, pushing him back, when Duskstar lunged. Suddenly, the whole world zeroed in on the limp body of Breezekit as her life seeped into the dirt. Cormorantpaw’s eyes felt incapable of blinking and his mouth froze, barely showing the sharp tips of his bottom teeth. He was going to be sick. The only thing his amber eyes could see was blood, even after Buckbranch moved to block his view. Still, blood was everywhere. He was going to be sick. Glassy amber eyes blinked painfully and wrenched themselves away from the gruesome sight but still, there it was, blood- filling his every sense and oh great Starclan it was touching his paw! That finally snapped Cormorantpaw halfway out of his trance- enough to scramble backward a few pawsteps with a disgusted moan. He was going to be sick.
Slowly, as though covered in a shell of sap, Cormorantpaw turned to look in Buckbranch’s eyes rather than at the pool of red that the apprentice had been standing too close to, the red that now stifled his toes and made him gag. He hadn’t heard what Buckbranch had said, but it slowly registered. His mentor had told him to go back to the place he’d been meant to stay. A place for cats with clean paws. Cormorantpaw watched Buckbranch turn away without making a sound. His ears were ringing. They rang like he’d just been in an explosion. Was that normal? Everything felt topsy turvy and strangely wavey, like ripples on water. He still felt like he was going to be sick. With every roll of the world around him, Cormorantpaw’s stomach broiled and sent saliva to warn him of its displeasure. Or, was it his stomach rolling, not the world? He couldn’t tell.
All of a sudden, the ringing in his ears replayed Buckbranch’s words at a shocking volume, making the tom wince. His mentor had long since made his way into the forest and Duskstar was talking now, but Cormorantpaw hadn’t moved. Why hadn’t he moved? Another wave of sound slammed into him, “go back to where I told you to stand.” Where was that coming from? Still feeling incredibly nauseous, Cormorantpaw stumbled to his paws and rocked his way shakily over to where he was meant to stand. Only, standing made his stomach angrier. So, Cormorantpaw reached the spot and sat heavily, turning to face forward again. Yet, his eyes weren’t on Duskstar. The glassy amber eyes were transfixed, cemented to the dirt before him and the small, glossy red droplets that tinged his trail of pawsteps.

Berrybreeze's ears turned back, eyes wide as he watched Duskstar kill a kit. He knew she was a danger and had attacked his leader but to kill Breezekit? He felt sick to his stomach, finding he couldn't look away. In the last second he moved his body to block Quailpaw's line of sight, hoping to keep her from seeing what had just happened.

--

Fernglow winced, digging his claws into the dirt. The kit deserved it in a way, attacking multiple clanmates as well as Duskstar and refusing to leave. Still, seeing kit blood spilled on the Highpeak made him uncomfortable. With a shake of his head, he steeled his resolve and looked back up at the Highrock with a serious expression. There was no time for sympathy for a traitor, no matter the age.

Robinflight gasped, copper eyes wide. He expected total banishment, sure, but killing the scrap? His stomach churned like a storm, so he forced himself to concentrate on the Code. Whatever actions Duskstar chose were law, he knew that, but the blood. There was something so startlingly different about kit blood. There was no satisfaction of serving his Clan, no scars to leave in your enemy's skin, only a limp, wet being. A cat who looked into the face of last resort - of duty to one's Clan - and saw gleaming teeth coming down on her like icicles. The kit must have felt absolute fear in that moment. She must have felt sorry.

The tortoiseshell tom shook his head, attempting to drown these thoughts. His dedication to his Clan meant he had to accept this, no matter his confusion. Robinflight forced himself to listen Duskstar's meeting, though his eyes were dull with conflict.

Quillpaw watched the whole spectacle in amazement of what his master did next. Viola! Problem solved. Yellow eyes fluttered admiringly at Duskstar as she continued on casually despite the wrenching gags and gasp flooding around. The tabby sent a quizically stare at them all, "What? What? It was just a kit my fellow felines. A destructive one at that. KO. Deceased and gone, lights out." Maybe he missed the memo? When she ended Breezekit's life it didn't make his heart tremble or eyes water. Hmm... Quillpaw shrugged. The next news also did not make him feel a tiny bit of sorrow however seeing his leader's distressed gaze it made his ears wilt down. Perhaps after the announcements, he can lift up her mood.

Myrtlepaw gazed back to Ploverspot as he spoke, explaining everything about this whole situation. Further mention of his own past made him slightly wince, though he once again grew more curious when about Plover's past. It all seemed to click in him at that point. "So this... this cat... Shadedpath... she's your mother?" The young tom turned back to Shaded, a curious gaze being casted towards her. Taking a couple of light steps towards the she-cat, he sniffed at her, judging whether or not she was truly any threat to the young cat.

"I guess she seems nice... and if you trust her I... I may... I may as well also." With Plover's trust in the cat, Myrtle had felt that it was also going to be okay with her around. His russet pelt fell relaxed again as he felt safer in his own mind. Once again coming closer to Shaded with some effort, he pressed gently against her pelt as some form of greeting. Myrtle didn't really have the words to say anything more at that point, he was too exhausted from all the worrying he'd done... that didn't stop his mind from being any less active, however. What if she doesn't want anything to do with me? I already caused her much anxiety after just meeting... I must be a fool to approach so openly, I'm only going to hurt her more...

Stepping back a moment, Myrtlepaw dipped his head to Shadedpath. "Sorry for being... being s-so hasty... I just... just wouldn't mind having you as a... a mother... mother figure..." The apprentice desperately hoped he hadn't made things even worse, he glanced back to Plover, but there seemed to be no clear expression on his face. This was a situation he'd have to face on his own... an experience he had yet to fully grasp. It had been clear to him that he would need to learn how to manage problems on his own eventually, or he'd never progress as a proper warrior. This was hard for him to push in this moment, but he knew it'd be important to start now. With a heavy heart, he gazed back up to Shaded directly, on the verge of bawling his green eyes out. Dread filled his small body as he waited eagerly to hear what she had to say about it all.

The large she-cat focused her panicked gaze on her son as she took in his words. Her tangled mess of a mind unfurling as she tramped down on the images of the past. She turned back to Myrtlepaw and took in a shaky breath as she blinked away the image that she had super imposed on the equally nervous apprentice.

She gave them a weak smile and slowly relaxed her stance, tried to look less...big, imposing. A lot of the younger Thunderclan cats would call her that, she didn't want to be right now though. Ploverspots' voice put her at ease and she nearly choked up as he offered a role in Myrtlepaws life. The green eyed warrior looked to her son with a hopeful gaze.

"I..." I do, I really want to, I want to help you and him. Before she could voice her thoughts Myrtlepaw spoke to her and it was only polite to give him her full focus.

"I, um...Yes, yes I am Ploverspot's mother." she supplied awkwardly. Being called mother didn't hurt nearly as much as it use to. Hearing it from her children now was like hearing birds chirping in the morning, or apprentices play fighting in the clearing. It helped settle her. She was a mother now, she needed to be a mother right now too. This apprentice right here, who has had their entire life uprooted to be brought to a place her son thought would be better for them. He thought she would be good for them.

And then Myrtlepaw breached her walls just so easily, gathering up his courage and pressed against her and oh.

She'd probably burn the forest to ash if someone messed with this kit of Plover's. This is mine now too. She thought distantly. Their russet fur still smelt of the pine trees of Shadowclan.

And then they were gone and Shaded didn't get nearly enough time to get her spiraling thoughts together long enough to return Myrtlepaw's affection. He was stuttering and that just wouldn't do. probably far to swiftly and got to her paws and to one step forward to wrap a front paw gingerly around the panicking young apprentice and pressed them into her long grey fur with a comforting purr.

"Now put those tears away." she murmured as she wrapped a tail around Myrtlepaw for good measure.

"If you need me I'm here, if you need a mother or a grandmother I'll be there. I promise." she turned her gaze to Ploverspot, her green eyes shiny with emotion.

"I'll help make Thunderclan a home for you, both of you."

This time Doepaw was glad to be blind. The little grey anxious apprentice had been listening to the sounds and angry voices of the other warriors and apprentice's and had not bothered getting involved. She was afraid she might be caught in fray, and that was not something she would've liked. And so when Duskstar called her name, the apprentice tried to look brave, she really did, but this was in front of the entire clan! How was she supposed to look brave then? She didn't know but slowly weaved in and out of where the other cats were sitting until she stood in front of the entire clan, making pointedly sure to avoid the body that she could smell emitting a clear scent of death, the air perfuming with the excrement of death. "I'm, I'm here Duskstar." Her voice had lost a bit of its stuttering but she was still afraid. Who would their leader assign as her mentor? Hopefully someone who wouldn't leave a blind cat in the forest to teach themselves. She hoped dearly that that did not happen.

Blazingpaw scrunched up his nose as he watched the leader KILL a KIT. He picked himself up and stormed out of camp. They were all horrible, killing, selfish cats who had no goals in mind except those that met their own selfish needs. Ears twitching as he passed by Cloudsound, giving him a toothy snarl. "Be careful what you say or you'll be next. Blink at her wrong and she'll kill you." he snorted. "Savages." he gurgled under his breath as he made his way out the Entrance.

Aspenpaw, on the other hand was just walking in, face, and the majority of the lower half of her body plastered in mud. But she wore a big bright smile. She quickly bolted into camp laughing just in time to hear her name. Jaggedhawk and his threats of murder forgotten, she swiveled her head and looked up at Duskstar. Confusion now flickered in her eyes.

Looking around everyone seemed so solem. Why? They should fix that. She sniffed, before walking up towards the center of the clearing. "Whatdoya need Duskstar?" she hummed as she slowly plucked the mud from her fur.

Softbriar watched the ordeal with wide eyes, stammering at Duskstar's ultimate decision. How could the clan have gone from playfully passing around a pebble to... this? They weren't quite sure how to feel, they didn't agree with the exiling of a kit, let alone the killing of a kit, the killing of any cat really. They couldn't believe this was how Duskstar had dealt with the young cat, with little delicacy even after she was killed. She at least deserved a proper burial, surely.
But, Duskstar was their leader, the leader's word was law. If Duskstar thought this was best, Softbriar wouldn't go against her no matter how they felt. They were loyal to ThunderClan, and that meant being loyal to their leader. They turned away from the scene, their stomach-turning with anxiousness, they just needed to ignore this and believe Duskstar had the clan's best interest in mind. They glanced back at their clanmates once more before padding away, needing a minute to register the event.

Ploverspot's eyes shined. He was so happy that Shaded had accepted Myrtlepaw but also that his little apprentice were brave enough to go up to her. The grey tom adjusted himself on the ground as his bones creaked a bit and he felt the ache in a leg. It was tiring, getting old. It was not something he particularly enjoyed and he could see the wear of time on Shadedpath as well. "Thank you, thank you Shaded for accepting Myrtle into our little close-knit family." He curled his tail further around both his mother and Myrtlepaw and let out a content and happy purr. His family was all together and his apprentice was already improving. But he knew that at some point they'd had to confront the fact that neither himself nor Shaded would live forever. Sighing he stood up and uncurled his tail from his family. "I'll go get you something to eat. You two can keep on bonding, you need it. Mom... Just please don't interrogate Myrtle too much, if you've got any questions about his past I'll answer them unless he is willing to answer them himself." With that he excused himself and went over to the freshkill pile. He spotted a good piece of prey and a small grin appeared on his face. Myrtle was still struggling with eating and now, he would probably be forced into eating it as Shaded was literally going to be sitting on top of him. With that that in mind he picked up the squirrel and went back to the two, dropping it directly in front of Myrtle. "Here. You can eat this, can you not?"

Myrtlepaw was shocked when all of a sudden he was pulled back into warm embrace by Shadedpath. Normally, he much disliked sudden movement or action, though this time, he felt oddly at peace. In his mind, he knew there was only comfort to be had at this moment. He let his mind and body rest, not a privilege he was used to having for himself. The russet tom was further soothed by the she-cats mention that she would, in fact, stick around. Of course, he still kept his ears open for what Plover had to say as well, the mention of going for food was just passed off as another generic statement to the apprentice... for now.

Later, when Plover had returned with food as promised, Myrtle was still just enjoying the company of Shaded. It felt as if everything was right at that very moment. However... the elderly mentor clearly had some wit. When food, food that was meat nonetheless was dropped in front of the young apprentice, he silently gulped. He was in no position to deny this meal, and Plover knew that.

I have to eat this... but I don't want to. I can't say no... not at this moment. Why would he do this to me now of all times? Myrtlepaw once again felt full of dread, this reminded him of the very last thing he did as a Shadowclan cat.

Myrtlepaw sighed. "I... I-I can... I mean yes... yes I can eat it..." With a big, regret filled sigh, the russet tom reached to take a bite of the squirrel. Initially all he got was a mouth full of fur, which he spit out, saving only the meat he would be forced to eat. As if repeating his past, his chewing became slower and more drawn out with each movement, each cycle bringing him closer to just spitting the whole thing out. This was truly dreadful for him, but there was no way to get out of this situation, save from disappointing Plover... and now Shaded too. He couldn't let himself regress in front of these two. No, no, he'd eat the whole thing if they asked him to. Swallowing hard, he was able to at least bring one bite down to his belly. Afterwards, he rested miserably, the comfort of Shaded now being an easy out for the oncoming pain he always seemed to get when he ate this meat.

He spoke weakly to Plover. "There... I... I did what you asked." His green eyes seemed to be pleading to be let off easy this time around.

Shadedpath gave a silent nod in understanding to Ploverspot as he left to pick up food. Yes, She could feel it now, through the apprentices russet fur. Warm as he his with developing muscle from earlier training he felt skinny and that didn't sit right with her. Once Ploverspot had walked off to sniff out the camps prey pile she slowly let herself unwind from Myrtlepaw. She studies him with sharp green eyes. He looked less tense now. More comfortable with the comfort she gave and it made relief wash over her that she hadn't unwittingly spooked him.

She still wanted to know, she was so happy her son had a life outside of her actions. She wanted to know how it could have gone all wrong and what made this apprentice act like any Thunderclan kit that had grown up around the gossip and warnings about her when she was younger. But Ploverspot said not to pry, so she would not. She would stay there to keep Myrtlepaw calm, help them feel safe. Because that's what he needs, she can see it in his stutter, his nervous shuffle. And it makes her want to claw at which ever Shadowclan cat could have done this to him.

Really, what kind of clan was Icestar running?...Ice cold fox-heart.

Ploverspot was back and there was a glint in his eye as he dropped a squirrel at Myrtlepaw's paws. The elder warrior saw the shift in the apprentice again and with narrowed eyed studied his reaction to the food provided. It was one bite and a pained face before the russet furred tom was pressing back into her. She flicked her tail and hummed.

"Has he always had difficulty with meat?" she asked Ploverspot, then turned to Myrtlepaw.

"I need you to explain to me exactly why you made those faces while eating the squirrel." her calculated tune fizzled out slightly then, she cleared her throat to speak again a bit softer. "That is...if that's something you're comfortable explaining. You need more food. Even I can see that."

Mosskit padded out of the nursery, going to get some prey. She wondered what all the cats were looking at, and why they all had shocked looks on their faces. ...Wow...Is that a kit??? Why is the kit not moving? Is it dead!? Mosskit crept closer to get a better look. Her ginger pelt was shaking. Her brown eyes were wide in shock. Mosskit looked away, not wanting to look at the scene for long.

"I am... Doepaw. Doepaw.. That's... that's.. my name."

Flintspirit's face contorted with worry as the small she-cat continued to shake more violently, standing frozen in front of him. He wasn't quite sure what was wrong, did she need to go to the medicine den? Was she overtired? As she asked him what he'd need her name for, Flintspirit shook his head, keeping his voice calm and steady. "No, not in trouble at all. It's me who should be in trouble actually, I just feel bad I don't remember your name. But if you don't want to tell me you don't-" He was cut off as she spoke her name. "Doepaw. That's a nice name." He meowed in response, his voice warm. "So, if you um... don't mind me asking, were you missing for a while? Because I haven't seen you around Thunderclan for quite a bit." He felt a little like he was intruding, but he needed to learn more about the small she-cat if he was going to be able to help her and make sure she gets suited for clan life once again. Because to him, she seemed absolutely terrified. Or tired. It could be tired too.

Slushie (repost)

-

Long after the meeting had ended, Cormorantpaw sat in the same position. His eyes had glazed over and burned from lack of moisture but he felt nothing. The young tom felt like a hollow tree- stiff and standing on the outside but empty inside, rotted away. The matte blood dust mixture and did nothing.

It had taken the rest of the meeting for Buckbranch to finish the job, and when he walked back into camp, the first thing his eyes landed was Cormarantpaw. A quick gasp pushed past his lips and he immediately rushed over, stopping just in front of the young tom.
Like his apprentice's, Buckbranch's eyes were hollow, dark, and dull. The sun peeking through the clouds seemed too cheerful for any of this to be real, but it was. The trail of red droplets leading to where Cormorantpaw sat, his red-stained, blood-caked chest, the stench of death - it was all very much there, and it was all very much real.
"Cormorantpaw," he managed to rasp out. "Cormorantpaw, it's... it's okay, alright? I'm here."

Cormorantpaw barely heard Buckbranch and gave no sign that he even knew the older tom was there. He just kept staring at the blood stained trail of pawsteps. The blood had dried to his paw by now and caked his toes like old mud but he wasn’t looking at his paw. No part of Cormorantpaw even twitched, even as Buckbranch spoke to him. Then, just as before, the ringing in his ears reformed Buckbranch’s words and sent a tidal wave of sound to his ear drums. It started with quiet ringing and then quickly ramped up to a painful scream of unintelligible words that scrambled his brain painfully. The young apprentice visibly winced at the rush of noise and terrible pounding in his head. He blinked his dry eyes, feeling like they were two times too big for his skull and suddenly dropped to the ground with his paws over his ears, trying to block out the painful noises.

At first, Buckbranch's expression only consisted of concern and hollow terror, but when Cormorantpaw dropped to the ground with his paws over his ears it switched quickly to panic.
"Hey, hey, hey!" He curled himself around his apprentice as tightly as he could without hurting him, his goal to warm the young cat as well as try to comfort him as best he could. "It's going to be fine. You're going to be fine. It's okay, it's okay.." He kept repeating those two words, over and over again, as if that on its own would make everything better. Cormorantpaw started shivering almost as soon as Buckbranch curled around him, but at least he was moving. A feeling of intense nausea swept through him but at least he felt something. He wanted to curl himself into a tree bling ball but thoughts were slowly returning to his sluggish brain and he didn’t give in to his first instinct. Suddenly, however, the tom felt like he was on fire. Yet... he was cold. All he knew was that his skin hurt. He felt like he’d been dunked in a frozen river and then thrown into a thicket. Every inch of his body simply felt wrong, like his skin was too tight. The pounding in his ears had subsided, but not in his head and a tiny cat kept head-butting his skull behind his eye. The sharp, metallic taste of saliva rushed his mouth and Cormorantpaw had to extricate himself from Buckbranch as quickly as possible and rush out into the forest to be sick.

Cormorantpaw lumbered back into camp within moments and returned to Buckbranch still shaking and looking throughly ill. “S-sorry, Buckbranch. I’m not feeling so good right now.” Suddenly, it was as if the whole ordeal hadn’t happened. Instead, Cormorantpaw simply had a bug of some kind. That was why he felt so awful. The apprentice sat down facing his mentor and blinked sluggishly, “maybe I ate something that was bad,” he mused with a groan, “everything hurts.” He couldn’t think of a better way to describe the general, whole body feeling of illness. The tom tilted his head at Buckbranch and shuffled his paws, his mind leaping to the events before Breezekit’s death and omitting the trauma entirely. Giving Buckbranch a sheepish look, Cornorantpaw mumbled, “am I in trouble?”

While his Clanmates all tried to move on without repulsion, or even left the scene in utter disgust, Rainywhisker sits stiffly and grinds his teeth, trying not to overthink it. It was damn near impossible though, and plus- Poppypaw was sitting there with just about the same expression as everybody else. Not wishing for the poor guy's first experience with ThunderClan to have gone so poorly, the older warrior tries to come up with something, anything that might make the situation a little bit better than it seemed to be.

"No, it doesn't," the warrior finally manages to bite out in response to Poppypaw's question. "It never happens. Any true warrior has respect for all life, from the newly hatched baby birds that will someday feed us, to the most sinister of our enemies." Of course, he felt repulsed at Breezekit being murdered as well, along with his leader's reasoning behind being the murderer. "Duskstar failed to provide you with an example of one such warrior. I apologize on her behalf to you that you've seen this. ThunderClan is not what she just showed you, I swear to you."

"oi, kit, why are you up"? whispered a voice beside him
Bladekit's fur stood on end.
it was just FrostWish. The cat Bladekit had a crush on since four moons.
she licked Bladekit around the ears and genlty lead him back to the nursery.
"Its not your time yet, little warrior" she whisperes.
Bladekit turned around. FrostWish was gone.
Bladekit curled up in his single nest in the corner away from all cats and fell into sleep.

ThunderClan would need all the information they could get from this ShadowClan warrior if they were to fight against Icestar's idiotic plan. The alliance had been broken for good reason, was Icestar's pride hurt because of it? It was almost laughable. Almost.

Duskstar felt like her head was spinning. Her ears were ringing, the urge to hurl growing stronger. But she remained up on the Highpeak, determined to finish the meeting.

"Doepaw [ Arie ], you have returned to us after being missing for quite some time. You are to continue your training as normal. Flintspirit [ RedHead ], you will mentor her."

"Aspenpaw [ Starbot ], your former mentor was brutally murdered by wolverines, which have since been driven out of our territory. You must receive a new mentor. Ferretwatcher [ Sneakyfox55 ], you will mentor her."

Duskstar tried to remember what was next. None of the Clan was becoming warriors, the loners that had joined were already done...

Though, wasn't there an apprentice who should have been a warrior by now? What was her name... Plumpaw!

"Plumpaw [ implimm ], you have a mentor, but to speed along your training to help you to be a warrior, I am assigning... Birdchatter [ BILL. ] as your second one."

What was next... Flockhen's name, yes. It was quite strange.

"Flockhen [ @ ], your name does not make sense to me. It is strange-- what is a 'flock'? Nonetheless, you will be renamed. From this moment on, you will be called Breezehen. It makes... much more sense."

Duskstar was really starting to get dizzy now. Did anyone else see the camp spinning? She leaned back and forth visibly, trying to keep her balance. And her consciousness. The taste of Breezekit's blood was still thick on her tongue. She had just murdered a kit. It was for the good of the forest... but it was a kit. She hated violence so, so much.
She couldn't remember anything else.

"This meeting... is dismissed."

She jumped down from the Highpeak, though as she landed, she stumbled, nausea taking over her as she lost consciousness, falling to the ground.

A raid at moonhigh? Just the kind of fox-hearted move they'd expect of ShadowClan, though they had assumed their clan currently had a decent relationship with the fellow forest-dwelling clan at the moment. "If those mouse-brains think they can get the best of us, they're sorely mistaken."
Their tail lashed, nodding in silent agreement of Duskstar's words. They'd need their strength, so after their leader had finished speaking they padded towards the edge of the clearing to settle down, having already had some fresh-kill earlier in the day.

The crowd seemed agitated about something, but she couldn't quite tell what it was. The meeting seemed to be progressing as normal, except for the blood on Duskstar's muzzle.
She sat down to listen to the rest of the announcements, but the meeting was already ending, it appeared. With a flick of her tail, she turned to head out of camp - but she didn't make it two steps before she heard a dull thud on the ground behind her.
Her eyes flew wide open as she spun to look, and within seconds she had dashed to Duskstar's side. "Duskstar," she hissed sharply, prodding the female leader with one paw. "Duskstar, get UP. What the hell happened?"

Aspenpaw narrowed her eyes in confusion. Mauled by Wolveriens? That was aubsurd. "But Duskstar, that's silly I was just with Bluegorse! He was just showing me some cool hunting poses!" she argued. Sure the memories were a little fuzzy but, she was standing on a log, and he was talking to her about how to properly crouch!

And yet the Leader continued to assign her a new mentor. Dismayed the Calliby shook her head, but didn't argue much more until she was finished. "I don't need a new mentor...I liked Bluegorse he didn't tattle on me when I said I fought some already!" he huffed to herself as she made her way over to Ferretwatcher.

Meeting the Warrior with a pout the molly touched noses with her new mentor. Tail flicking as she looked back at Duskstar. "He's not dead. I was just with him!" she protested as the tom started talking about her former mentor.

Than Duskstar fell down, and she watched with uninterested eyes. "Where's Lionwhisker?" she asked aloud, to no one in particular. Why in the world did she fall down? That was kind of silly of her.

Birdchatter didn't really give a flock about what the others were saying, especially not that Cornbirdpaw-- whatever his name was, he couldn't quite remember as he focused his attention on quietly retrieving his pebble from Bravepaw. Alas, it seemed the game had been derailed and the purpose forgotten! How disappointing..

He didn't pay much heed to when Duskstar killed the kit, or when half the Clan seemed to get their tails in a bunch over it. Some things just couldn't be avoided.

Birdchatter did tune in to hear Duskstar assign him a new apprentice, and he couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Seems like a solid plan... ey, Plumpaw! How'd you like to go on a walk with me, clear the air a little?"

Plumpaw had been silent throughout the entire ordeal- watching in shock when Duskstar brutally put the kit down. The blood... All of the blood... It was difficult for the silver she-cat, who couldn't suppress a shiver as she pictured Firebug again, and all of the blood that soaked him, the ground, and her own pelt too. Her belly churned, and for a while Plumpaw wanted to slither into Lionwhisker's den to either be sick or ride it out, but then the leader gets back up and dismisses her actions like a breeze. The apprentice would have left then if Duskstar hadn't gone on to announce her name soon, addressing her and her complications with training. It felt like she was being shamed somehow for not becoming a warrior yet now. The molly ducks her head, cursing the Clan leader with a passionate slew of words in her mind before rising to shaken paws to approach Birdchatter.

The she-cat does her best to push away the nibbling fear she got over seeing Breezekit juice all over the ground, and lifts her chin as she assesses Birdchatter. She'd downplay the trembling of her tail with the disdainful scrutiny in her stare, that'd work for sure. "Sure. Guess that's what everyone's fixing to do now anyways." True, most cats had scattered or simply padded off after the show Duskstar had put on for them. But now that the meeting was officially over, even Duskstar herself had lurched someplace out of sight. Flicking her tail, she blinks expectantly at Birdchatter. "You do mean now, right?"

Heartkit whimpered as she silently listened to the Shadowclan warrior in the clearing warn Thunderclan about the attack. "Don't cry... they won't get to you as long as I'm with you," Mumblekit told her with his chest puffed out bravely. He added, "And besides, why would Shadowclan want any of us? We're just as annoying and anxious as the kits they own." Heartkit giggled. Her brother was never as protective as this. He was never as FUNNY as this, either. He had been too serious for his own good. Moss ball? Nah. Pretend clan? Probably not. Cat and mouse? Never. She decided to put him to the test to see how happy and energetic he was right now. Heartkit scrambled to her paws, asking her brother, "Do you wanna play a game?"
"Nah. I'm fine."
"Aww! Come on. You never play with me!"
Mumblekit hesitated, then answered, "Alright." Wait. Did he just say that? Heartkit bounced around excitedly. Finally! He hadn't played with her ever since they were two moons old. "How 'bout cat and mouse? I'll be the mouse," Fernkit suggested. As Mumblekit nodded, she turned around and scratched at the ground, pretending to look for food. Five seconds later, she got impatient. Mumblekit wasn't pouncing! "Hey, Mumblekit... I thought you'd pounce on me by -" Before she could say "now", she was knocked over by a powerful force. She squealed in excitement and fury as she and Mumblekit wrestled each other, each one trying to fight on top of the other. They both slowly scrambled for their own nests, gasping. After a little bit, they were both breathing normally and calmly. This gave Fernkit to think how fun it was to play with her brother Mumblekit before the attack Shadowclan was plotting. Oh wait... the attack..! Fernkit prodded Mumblekit's side, waking him up easily. "Why did you wake me up?" Mumblekit grumbled, being his old self again. Fernkit told him in a shaky voice, maybe we should stay up just in case... you know... Shadowclan?" Mumblekit's eyes that were half closed shot open when she said that. "I forgot about that!" He hissed to himself, realized that he might as well keep his eyes open for anything suspicious. He quickly scrambled to his paws, looking around as if something was about to pounce on him. "I wonder what Thunderclan did wrong..." Fernkit mumbled, keeping close to her brother.

-- starshooter --

Ploverspot stared pointedly at Myrtlepaw. "You gotta eat all of it, Myrtle. Its for your own best. As soon as you've got on a proper eating schedule you'll be coming with me out in the territory, but until then we're remaining here and practising eating." At Shadedpath's comment he looked over at her and nodded. "I didn't realise it until recently when I caught him eating some strange berries. I assume he had to be watching the medicine cats when they went out for collection of inventory. That's the only reasonable explanation I could think about. But I think Myrtle should tell you what really happened. Meanwhile I'll take a good nice rest in the sun."

With that the the elderly tom rolled over to his stomach and stretched out his front and back paws, mushing his face in between his front legs. It did not take long for the tom to fall asleep with the sun warming his back and he let out a happy and content purr, happy to let his mother and apprentice talk on their own.

Doepaw stared at the tom taken-aback. Why... Why was she not in trouble? Well the correct question would be why didn't he think she was in trouble? She was confused but as he asked her more questions she felt even more anxiety rush through her and without thinking she took a few steps forward and pressed her head into Flintspirit's warm fur and then pressing her body against him. She was thoroughly shaking but it slowly started to reside as the warmth and the feeling of comfort reached her. She was safe here. The deputy had proved nothing that should dismiss this claim and so she slowly started to relax, the shaking still there but not as extreme it had been before.

Shadedpath eyed her son as he flopped over and fell asleep near instantly. She snorted in amusement.

"I swear, he sometimes acts older than me." she muttered before pinning Myrtlepaw with an expectant look.

Then he saw what he presumed was Duskstar, with other cats. Was her den always this busy? I feel kind of bad, it must be overwhelming Duskstar? May I speak with you? Buggy asked, playing with a small rock he found with his black and white paw If that's ok he added, quietly hxneysuckle

Percy cast his mentor a doubtful glance, but stayed quiet. He didn't think he had the stomach to speak another word. Gross, the word pealed around his mind while he eyed the furry little lump. And then, if it wasn't enough that there was now a corpse just sitting in the middle of camp, Duskstar crumpled over unconscious. Somehow, more cats seemed to rush over to help her royal highness than the kit who's neck she snapped. He angled his head and averted his gaze with a hollow sigh. "What a waste." There was a pause.. "Great fertilizer, though! You wouldn't believe what a good week-old corpse will do for a garden. Feeds the soil- makes it nice and rich. There's nothing better!" Suddenly the tom leaped upward and barreled through the crowd.

Ploverspot stared pointedly at Myrtlepaw. "You gotta eat all of it, Myrtle. Its for your own best. As soon as you've got on a proper eating schedule you'll be coming with me out in the territory, but until then we're remaining here and practising eating." But I think Myrtle should tell you what really happened. Meanwhile I'll take a good nice rest in the sun."

Myrtlepaw sighed. He knew there was no way to avoid the question Shadedpath had asked, especially with Ploverspot going off to take yet another one of his mid day naps. Looking back up to Shaded, his green eyes seemed to fill with sadness.

"Well, I guess it's because of... the berries... like Plover said. My mom, well... my birth mother... she didn't care much for me after I was old enough to walk... There was nobody there to give me food... so I would go out, and see which berries the medicine cats did not pick... and then... I would take those berries that were left..." The young tom paused, there was quite a bit left for him to say, so he'd have to take a moment to catch his breath. "And then... after my parents had... been killed..." Going back on this memory was painful for the apprentice, he had to try his best to hold back some tears. "Well... after that is when I met Plover. He brought me some prey to feed me every day... I tried this prey... but it tasted awful, it was nothing compared to the berries I gathered... So, I left the food for other kits in the nursery... and just went back to gathering my berries in secret... But, after I became an apprentice... Plover found out, and told me all that was wrong with that." Myrtle pressed closer into Shaded, the whole tale was a lot of effort on his part to explain, and he felt exhausted after having to go on for so long.

Some time had passed of the russet furred tom just once again enjoying the comfort of his new mother. Though there had been much termoil in his short life, he could at least be happy in this moment. It was only once he decided to look back that he had remembered the squirrel, placed out specifically for him. Myrtle's mood shifted, he suddenly once again seemed to become panicked. It was clear in his mind that he needed to become used to this new kind of food, or he would never live the life of a warrior. There was also the aspect of not wanting to disappoint the two cats who cared most for him... but even still, the pains he faced from eating had made him hesitant to ever take another bite. Some encouragement was going to be needed... he'd never break out of this cycle on his own.

Shadedpath listened intently as Myrtlepaw explained in stilted sentences and let him press himself further into her long fur. She didn't interrupt and just watched him expectantly.

She was...familiar with this actually. It gave her some hope that she could help him. Because Plover was right, it wasn't good for the apprentice to not be eating meat, they didn't have the flat teeth that prey animals had, or now teeth like birds. Cats were built for meat and this could effect his growth.

By the end as Myrtlepaw drifted off and grimaced at the still there squirrel, Shaded pressed a paw to his side to get his attention.

"This...kits usually need time to adjust to the texture of meat when they are being weened from their mother."

"This feeling you get, is it the meat specifically that makes you feel ill.Or the texture of the fur? Have you attempted to eat a bird after plucking all its feathers out?" she asked as she dragged the squirrel over to herself unconsciously before Myrtlepaw could try another bite of it and began the arduous task of tear fur from its body.

"Sometimes young cats, especially kits can be sensitive to the new texture of meat and will only eat a specific time until their stomach adjusts to the new diet. It seems you didn't have the chance to ease into it, correct?" she eyed her son's charge with a knowing glint. It took her a moment, but eventually she tore out a large enough bald spot and pushed it back toward the young tom.

"Eat what you can, then wash it down with water. You should avoid those berries, the medicine cat needs them and if you eat them all we wont have any left if they need to restock. You also don't know what those berries could have done to you. You are lucky you haven;t eaten any death berries yet." she chided.

Fleetwind nodded to Lionwhisker and headed straight for the medicine den, limping painfully. The going was slow, but he eventually made it and sat down to wait for the medicine cat to get to him. His paw hurt like nothing he’d ever imagined, and he was growing increasingly worried that Lionwhisker wouldn’t be able to do much to save it. What would that mean? Would he have to walk with one paw in the air for the rest of his life? The tabby tom shuddered at the thought- that would seriously hinder his warrior duties. At this point, he started wondering if having a permanent limp but being able to put his paw on the ground was best case scenario. With a glance at the mangled limb, Fleetwind sighed and prepared himself for a life with an unsightly foot.

This grounding feeling was something that she'd not had the opportunity to experience for so long. And she missed it. "I... I.. was.. I .. I was... missing.. yes. I... I got lost... Bright bright bright ... light... Scared me.. Got.. got afraid.. Hid.. Yes, I hid.. away from light... Found my.. way back to.. Thunderclan." That was it. She'd answered his question and she relaxed against him as she breathed out, not realising that she'd actually been holding her breath while she was speaking and slowly she closed her eyes. Just there. Resting. Absorbing the moment. She hoped that it was alright she was resting against him and had to get an answer. "Eh... Is... Is it... alright? That... that..I rest.. against... you? With that she pressed her head back again into his fur and let out a content purr for the first time in a long while. She was completely relaxed.

Flintspirit's eyes widened in concern as her head fell against his chest. Did she just.... faint? Oh goodness, that was no good. He opened his mouth to try and speak to her to make sure she was still conscious, but Doepaw began speaking again, and the tom quickly snapped his maw shut. Thank goodness she hadn't just fainted on him. Flintspirit probably would've had a very minor freak out. He listened closely to her description of what all had happened, finding it vague but enough for him to respond to. "Hey, but you're safe now aren't you? I promise you while you're here, nothing super terrible is going to happen to you." He gave a little shrug, green eyes moving towards the sky. "I mean of course we are cats living in a forest full of dangerous creatures, so there's always going to be some type of danger but...." He stopped, realizing this probably wasn't helping. "You get what I mean." He chuckled after a moment, glancing back down towards Doepaw.
As she asked about leaning against him though, Flintspirit shook his head, once again forgetting that she couldn't see him. "Nah, it's not bothering me at all. Anything that helps you feel safer here." Hopefully that made up for his odd blabbering earlier. He didn't want to scare the poor apprentice off again. "Do you wanna... go see some of your old denmates? I'm not sure who you might remember, but there's still some older apprentices around."

Her ears perked as she recognized Moonbird, immediately scrambling to her paws and chasing after her denamte. She would be a good cat to talk to, they'd known each other since Pine had joined the clan as a young kittypet. Her tail stood happily up as she approached the other cat, smiling warmly at the chance to get a little complaining in today.

"Moonbird! Hi! How is your day? I can't believe half of Windclan is here, gross." She wrinkled her nose up at the smell of the foreign cats. She wanted to continue rambling on about her issues and grand scheme, but instead gave Moonbird a chance to share too.

The she-cat glanced towards the other female that had approached her, taking a moment to look at her before going back to scratching her back. She allowed Pinepath to ramble on a little bit, though opened one orange eye as the other young warrior stopped. Upon realized she was being looked at expectantly, the dilute calico gave a small shrug, supposing she'd have to respond in some way. "Sure, they're stinky, but at least they're not dead. Would you rather have that Pinepath?" She questioned, eyes wide as she shook out her pelt and sat down, tilting her head in question. Moonbird herself didn't mind other clans, she found them... interesting. But she'd allow for some conversation today she supposed. Could be good for her, especially after her... interesting run-in with Plumpaw the other day.

Fernkit crouched, failing to blend in with the ground. "Here I come! Get ready to witness a true warrior!" She pounced, trying her best to target Nightkit. As she landed, though, it wasn't on the furry kits pelt, but on the hard, nursery ground. Instead of squealing about it, though, she got right back up, giggling. I'll get you THIS time! She thought silently.

She looked everywhere in the nursery, under moss beds, wherever kits were playing to check if Nightkit was blending in with them, but there was no luck. Maybe she's in the clearing, Fernkit thought. As she looked at the entrance/exit of the nursery, she added to her thoughts, Maybe he left the whole camp all at once..? she cringed at that thought, but she didn't dare think of checking outside the camp. She decided to just check the clearing and deal with it.

Maybe this won't be so bad then... all it will take is for me to get used to it... That was the main thought on Myrtlepaw's mind as he listened to Shadedpath explain in more detail. All of what was being said began to make more sense to the young tom, especially with how this all related to his aversion to meat.

"Yes... I never got adjusted to the taste of meat..." He mewed shyly. Myrtlepaw felt slightly ashamed that he was just now admitting to all of this... but it felt relieving to finally talk about the topic in more detail - especially with a cat who he could trust. As Shaded tore off some of the fur for the tom, he seemed more willing to have another bite, even if it was usually the meat itself that gave him issues.

Myrtlepaw reached down carefully, taking another chunk of squirrel from where the fur had been mostly torn off. The chewing part was easier this time around, the texture felt a bit less strange on his mouth after the first bite the tom had taken earlier.

That was the easy part though... next, he had to actually swallow.

And that he did. He once again sent the meat down with a heavy gulp. Almost like clockwork, the russet furred tom felt the pain come back. As per Shaded's suggestion he ran off to chase it down with some water, only hoping that it would help him. Finding a puddle nearby, he lapped up a sizeable portion before feeling content enough to return to the old she-cat's side. It was clear it would take more effort for Myrtle to fully ease in to prey, but there was progress being made.

Doepaw was unsure... Did the deputy want to get rid of her? He was fine with letting her rest against his fur but now he asked if he wanted to go 'see' some of her denmates. Did he not realise that what she wanted was just to sit here and relax? She liked this. She liked being relaxed and not having to worry about anything if only for a short while. There was something about this long furred, warm tom that made her feel comfort and safe... A feeling that she was not yet willing to give up. However, she was aware they were standing in the middle of the clearing, and maybe... maybe he could just comfort her further away? She didn't know, she just knew she liked this tom's comforting presence. Taking a deep breath she slowly dis-tangled her head from Flintspirit's fur, taking small careful steps over to the freshkill pile and piking up a jay. Her steps were tentative her ears flicking everywhere at all time, never taking a break. They were her safety, absorbing every incoming sound that would alert the little molly to anything that she feared. And back she went to the deputy, and dropped the jay at his paws. "I.. I... Do.. you.. want to.. eh.. share.. this?" She hoped he accepted. She first felt best if she shared her meal with someone else... it didn't feel right as so far she had still not made a successful catch. She then added on to her question. "Can I... Can I.. still sit.. with you? While... While.. we .. share.. this? Only... only.. if.. it .. it .. won't.., bother.. you." She really hoped it didn't bother him, it did not sit well with the little tabby if she did anything that made others uncomfortable. She didn't mind discomfort... It was something she had to deal with her entire life... Because she would never be comfortable anywhere... maybe except for when she had her face pressed into Flintspirit's fur... That had felt nice... "Your... your fur.. it.. comforts... me... Very soft... very.. relaxing."

Doepaw was resting. The tiny apprentice was still recovering from her eventful first day back in Thunderclan after having made her way back. She was exhausted, having to deal with so many events and so much speaking that even the day after she was still feeling the after shocks on her body. Well her mind. So the blind tabby molly laid in her nest and she was feeling better. She missed her mentor though, after the first incident where she ran into him, not knowing he was her mentor she'd felt more comfortable around him than she did most other cats. And so she laid in the darkness that was the den, not that she knew any difference but she could sense the light when she was outdoors and so the tree trunk that made up the apprentice's den was more than comfortable for the little molly. But it was when she heard a few quiet tentative steps that her ears peaked and she sat up, her blind eyes searching as she tried to locate where the sound was coming from, well more the cat. The scent of Shadowclan was apparent and all of a sudden Doepaw was on her paws, her fur spiking. "Who... WHo... Are you?!.. I'll... I'll... beat.. you... up!"

Myrtlepaw had been in the clearing, though he was quite exhausted after all the talking he had to do today. He would normally go rest with his mentor, but he encouraged him to go and try to sleep in the apprentice's den. With some hesitation, the russet tom padded briskly towards the hollowed tree, avoiding making any loud noise. It was too dark to see inside properly, but he heard no other cats - until suddenly he was being threatened before he could even see who was saying these words. Taking a step further, Myrtle saw a cat... one who appeared to be blind, he suddenly felt awful for scaring the poor cat, even if he didn't know what caused it. "I-I'm... Myrtlepaw... I'm sorry for... scaring you... I... I just came from... ShadowClan recently... I'm new... new to ThunderClan..."

“No worries,” Fleetwind assured hoarsely as another surge of pain popped in his foot, “I’m sure there were plenty of injuries requiring your attention.” The brown tabby tom lay down per Lionwhisker’s instructions and winced as the movement sent another flash of pain. Starclan, he could barely breathe without that paw twitching and hurting more! He offered a pained grin to Lionwhisker and meowed, “I don’t know what was with that cat and shattering my foot, but one thing’s for certain- she had the strongest jaws I’ve ever felt!” Making jokes was Fleetwind’s coping mechanism and he had a lot to cope with at the moment. The pain was one thing, but he might have been more affected by the sight of mangled flesh and twisted joint and the fear that the paw and ankle would never be the same.

Robinflight was one of the lucky cats during the battle. Though Cunningeye was as fierce as a fox, and at one point another cat had knocked the ThunderClan tom to the ground with thin, sharp slashes to his face, he was still able to move about relatively normally. Besides the exhaustion of battle, he had a long, semi-deep cut along his back, as well as a myriad of smaller cuts on his face and muzzle. His back stung like an adder when he walked, keeping him very aware of his condition.

Still, there were cats in much worse shape, so the tortoiseshell tom didn't mind waiting. In fact, he only now padded up to the den, having washed most of the blood from his fur and eaten a quick bite of fresh-kill.

Shadepaw glared at the crowd of younger apprentices. The old apprentice couldn't sleep, thinking of plans to get rid of Duskstar or Flintspirit and rise to the top of the clan, becoming the ThunderClan leader. Though he knows that Dumbdstar and Flintspit are already suspicious of the black-furred tom. I better stay on their good side or else I will never become leader. The Turkish Angora hissed, then closed his eyes to sleep.

Fawnsqueak couldn't remember ever feeling glad that he was within sight of ThunderClan clearing, but he was arriving in a decent amount of time--it wasn't too long after night had fallen, and his leg was beginning to ache from the strain. That feeling of gratefulness ebbed away as he drew closer and the tang of coppery blood hit his senses, yet might as well have smacked him upside the head in its intensity. All thoughts of his own minor injury forgotten, Fawnsqueak rushed forward, singletrack minded in learning what could've happened. He didn't care that he was tripping over undergrowth and dodging tree roots, just knew he had to get there and fast. Whatever had occurred was recent.

It was overpowering at the camp entrance. Nausea caused him to waver. His paws were frozen to the ground, eyes glued to the spatter of blood around the clearing.

Duskstar had been moving around the clearing, checking on all those still laying in it when a familiar face appeared. She looked up, coming to focus on the RiverClanner-- she still didn't know their name-- and frowned. Giving a nod to the cat she was currently checking on, the leader limped closer to the RiverClanner, tail flicking in greeting. It wasn't too difficult to determine that a raid had taken place on their camp, the scent of blood still strong in the air. Duskstar seemed to be purposefully ignoring the scent as well as her own injuries given by Icestar.
Once she had approached, she opened her mouth to speak.
"Is something wrong? Don't tell me Icestar decided to antagonize RiverClan as well..."

Fawnsqueak hardly registered that Duskstar was heading toward him, still entranced by the remainder of something terrible spelled out in the blood of ThunderClan's cats. Exactly what, he couldn't decipher but genuinely hoped it wasn't what Lionstar suspected: the work of ShadowClan.

It was only when Duskstar was basically in front of him--standing in his line of vision--that he snapped from his daze to flick unfocused eyes on her, speechless. There were no words for something like this, and a simple greeting felt out of his grasp, not to mention incredibly inappropriate. So his throat worked, but no noise came.

And everything stopped when she said Icestar. Oh stars. Fawnsqueak felt dizzy, and it couldn't be just from the overwhelming stench of blood-- battle in the air.

"I..." His throat had never been drier. He swallowed. "You-- there... Icestar?" It was a squeaky string of attempts at a sentence, bewilderment and anxiety scrawled over his face. Shaking his head, Fawnsqueak tried to snap himself out of it, get his composure together. When he spoke again, it was shaky but at least understandable, "...Icestar attacked?"

That must have been the key, because new questions flooded forth. "How-- when? Was it... It had to be recent, right? The blood, it's-- everywhere, fresh, and.." Peeking beyond her, the injuries of her clanmates became all the more visible. "Why? Why did ShadowClan..?" He refused to believe it was just over the alliance, surely she wouldn't...

She nodded solemnly, unfazed by their stuttering words. Passing a glance over the clearing, a frown on her lips, she allowed a sigh to slip into the blood-scented air. It was gruesome, the amount of gore that was painted over the camp. One would have thought that multiple murders had taken place, and yet, only one cat had officially died in the battle. But others had been horrifically disfigured.
Duskstar shuddered at the thought of Pinepuff and her now-missing nose.
"Icestar raided us. It was suppose to happen at moonhigh, as one of her warriors had warned us, but I can only assume that they were caught. ShadowClan raided early, in broad daylight. We were unprepared. Only one of our warriors was killed, but..." She shook her head. "She did this out of her fragile pride. To 'teach us a lesson' because we broke the alliance. Shed the blood of many warriors, and for no good reason." Duskstar's tail lashed in anger, ears flattening as she thought back to the raid that had taken place not long ago.
"It was selfish and heartless. And purely out of pride."

Fawnsqueak tried to absorb all of that, a difficult endeavor when his mind was swimming yet equally bogged down with extra inquiries about the battle itself, its purpose, what'd gone down between the leaders, the outcome-- maybe not that last one. There were no winners in battle. A blunt "huh?" fell from him at the revelation that it'd been an act of pride, or perhaps an act of vengeance; they were separate motivations to him, but he also hadn't truly met Icestar. He had no idea what she was like but couldn't imagine that was actually the reason behind a full-scale raid.

His ears flattened with hers, posture deflating. "Wow, I'm.. sorry," he managed out, eyebrows furrowed. It was still puzzling, why she would do such a thing. A solemn silence seeped in the seconds that passed with no words exchanged, there was nothing to say. Expressing condolences simply made him feel helpless. Drawing in a deep breath, he released it again in a strained puff. "Lionstorm sent me because he felt like something was off. And.. I guess I'm glad he did. Is... there anything RiverClan can do? I mean, I know... nothing is going to help." Not with their losses at least. "But just, anything to make it easier..?"

Putting together each of her thoughts, Duskstar gave a quiet "it'll be... okay" before she worked to think of a solution. It would take a while to heal from what ShadowClan had done, especially as they were already struggling beforehand. She hummed, Torbie tail twitching back and forth in thought. What could RiverClan do?
Many of their warriors were injured and would need to rest, and hunting had already been low beforehand. It wouldn't hurt to have some food, and maybe some extra protection in case Icestar decided she hadn't had enough...
After many, many heartbeats, Duskstar responded.
"If you can spare it, ThunderClan would be grateful to have some warriors sent over to help with hunting and guarding. Our warriors are worn down and hungry after a long leaf-bare with little food. But with the amount of injuries received, we'll have a hard time getting back on our paws with patrols and guarding the camp. It is solely up to Lionstar to decide, but we would be forever thankful to be given such help."
It wasn't much, but she couldn't bring herself to ask for more. Her job was to get the Clan to trust her, to believe in her ability to build them back up again. If she depended on RiverClan for everything, she would be seen as weak, and she didn't want that. Even so, the small amount of help would go a long way in allowing ThunderClan to recover.

"...Oh."

Fawnsqueak wasn't expecting a genuine, tangible response to that after ThunderClan's record of being too proud or too incompetent to accept help when it was offered, though it was a pleasant surprise. As pleasant as it could be, he supposed, considering they were dealing with the aftermath of tragedy. Realizing she was probably waiting on a confirmation, he dipped his head. "I'll.. see if he can do that." It was iffy, but he had idealistic hopes. They'd already sent the help patrol to WindClan, but to do so for ThunderClan as well.. he didn't know how far Lionstar's generosity would extend.

"I'll let Lionstorm know about that, and..." a thick swallow, his eyes sweeping over the camp again, "well, everything. Thanks for-- for having me, and your time, Duskstar." It may have been a smooth meeting, but the discovery was devastating. He didn't know if he was relieved to be leaving to unload it onto Lionstar or dreading the potential consequence.

Duskstar offered a genuine smile, though anger and sorrow still clouded her hazel eyes. "Thank you. We appreciate you checking in on us," she mewed, speaking on the behalf of all of ThunderClan. "I wish you safe travels back to RiverClan." With a wave of her tail, she turned around, limping off to speak with more injured cats. Hopefully RiverClan could spare some generosity and help them...

Mossyflight woke with a stretch, a lot colder than he remembered being when he fell asleep. He blinked himself awake and realized he fell asleep in the clearing. way to go, dummy he scolded himself.
He rubbed a paw over his face in an attempt to wake himself. Giving a small shake for extra measure, he padded outside the camp and looked at the sky, trying to gauge the time of day. It seemed early to mid morning, the light absolutely blinding him at this angle.
He slinked back in, groaning a little as he blinked away the spots in his eyes. Maybe Bonepaw was awake and up for training? He still needed to be shown around the territory, as he hadn't gotten the chance before Shadowclan attacked.
He popped his head into the apprentice den. "Bonepaw?" He kept his voice low to avoid disturbing the other apprentices.

Bonepaw looked up. He hadn’t really slept that much from the raid, and he had been awake for about half an hour now. His leg had healed properly by now, his mind, however, kept turning to his logic. What if there was another attack coming?

“Y-yes?” he replied, keeping his voice as low as he could.

The hedgehog coloured tabby apprentice slowly let her fur lie flat against her body again and came forward a bit to smell the other apprentice more and underneath the overwhelming scent of Shadowclan she was quite sure that the Thunderclan scent was beginning to come off him. With a small sniff to get his scent one last time she stepped back and replied, "and... I... am...I.. am.. Doe...paw... Doepaw... That's ... my .. name." She then let her small legs rest in her nest as she laid down again. "I am... exhausted.. But... I can...help you... wash.. your.. fur. So... it .. doesn't.. smell." For some reason this other apprentice didn't provoke an immediately anxious response from her. So she assumed she would be comfortable with him. "You... can.. make... a nest... next.. to me.... Myrtlepaw was greatly relieved when the other apprentice had seemed to be more relaxed. Learning her name was Doepaw, the russet apprentice felt more comfortable fully entering the den afterwards. At the offer of washing, Myrtle tilted his head in confusion. Wasn't she just wary of me..? But, it would be nice to at least attempt to be rid of the ShadowClan scent he still carried. "Well... I guess... you.. you... you can help... I'm... tired... of... of getting... st... strange... stares..." With further invitation to make a nest nearby... he didn't hesitate much, he hated sleeping alone. Piling up some moss quickly near Doepaw, the russet apprentice relaxed easily with the comfort of another cat he felt he could trust.

Upon hearing Duskstar call his name, Flintspirit finished up helping the cat he'd been talking to, before turning and padding towards the leader's den. He narrowed his eyes as he entered, allowing his eyes to adjust for a moment before looking towards Duskstar. He was not happy with her right now. And it was going to take a lot of his remaining strength to keep from going on an outburst and retaining civil conversation instead. The clan didn't need to see him go on a rage, that wouldn't do anything to help them. "You called?" He meowed, remaining standing, as a lot of movement might cause his stomach wound to continue bleeding. Thankfully, it had stopped, and he had yet to see Lionwhisker, but it would be fine. He would be fine.

Laurelkit sat in the corner of the nursery, grooming, she was soon going to be an apprentice in about a half-moon, and she wanted to be seen as more than a troublemaker like she had been made out to be when she snuck out of camp to clear her head and had ended up in a strange Riverclan-owned area... she sighed, yes, she was definitely seen as trouble.

The old, scared she-cat watch the apprentice scamper to a puddle and drink like a dying cat before he lumbered back for more. Laying on her belly with her head in her hands, the warrior snorted at the expression on Myrtlepaws face.

"Smaller bites, Myrtlepaw, You'll be less likely to choke yourself if you don't chew enough. It'll take longer, but you won't gag." she told him pointedly.

"You're no good to anyone if you choke to death on a squirrel." she said, though with no heat as she kept him and the sleeping Plover both in her line of site.
