"No, it's-" Strike stopped when he saw the soft rise and falls of Jill's chest. He let her sleep, keeping watch for potential danger. He looked up. Twinkling white dots were scattered across the sky. Here, you couldn't see them well, but in the Outskirts, it was beautiful. And the moon. It faithfully shined on his blue-gray face, like always. He took a deep breath of rotten Twolegplace air and went back to lookout duty. @Peril

The she-cat woke to Strike watching over the alley. "Do you ever sleep?" she asked teasingly, "Or do you sleep for five minutes and go back to looking out?" she yawned and stretched. She shook her fur and stepped into the alley, "Should we get some food?" she suggested.

Strike turned at Jill's voice. "You can't sleep long in an alley like this. Some cat's gotta keep watch," he said, a little annoyed. "We can get food in here." As if to prove his point, he crouched and pounced on a scrawny mouse, killing it with one swipe of his paw. "Here," he said, his voice muffled from the mouse currently in his mouth. He dropped it in front of her. @Peril

Strike walked out a bit, finding a few more small mice. He came back a little later with the prey. @Peril

By the time strike came back, the mouse was a pile of bones and fur. "Nice catch." Jill commented on the mice. She sat down and lick her lips, "That mouse was the best thing I've ever had in my life, I wish I would have escaped sooner!" she smirked and flicked her tail, "I like being free already."

Strike let out a little laugh. "Mice are good, aren't they? And this is a Twolegplace mouse. The mice in the forest are even better," he said. He realized how lucky he was to be born free and not in captivity, to do what he wants, eat what he wants, and go where he wants. Jill probably wasn't born like that. But her kits hopefully would!

Strike remembered the stories his mother used to tell him about cats that lived together in the forest. He really didn't like being around a lot of cats, just one or maybe two at a time. He didn't trust most cats. But Jill seemed trustworthy. A former kittypet he had helped free wasn't likely to turn on him. @Peril

"Maybe we should head to the forest... What do you say? Do you think I'll make it to the forest while I'm pregnant?" she asked hopefully. She wrapped her tail neatly around her paws and licked her lips again.

"Maybe..." Strike said. Jill could make it like this, but it could be hard. And once the kits were born, she would have to wait a few moons because young kits most likely wouldn't make the journey. It wasn't all that far, but there were some dangers on the way there. "Do you think you could run really fast or jump in some places? If not, I know another way that will take longer but won't require either of those," he meowed. @Peril

The she-cat considered for a moment, "Yes, and if you said I had to run through five thorn bushes to get there, I'd still say yes. It's what's best for my kits." She finally answered. "When do we start."
