Wait, she has to smell? Why didn’t she think of that earlier? “Oooooh. I see!” Carppaw utters with her hazel eyes widening in notion. She feels a bit embarrassed from the oblivious start, but hey, she’s just an apprentice, and her training has already started. She raises her head, ready to smell the surrounding scents.

Huh, she seems to clearly get the hang of it! She sniffs for a longer period of time to identify the scent, only to find out that it’s a familiar scent of… “Vole!” Carppaw exclaimed. "I smell a vole." It must be here, somewhere, though…

Sunstorm nodded. He could smell the vole as well. "Alright, locate it, and once you do, get into your hunting crouch," he mewed.

Carppaw raises his head for a second time to keep track of the recent scent. She pads around in a small circle, only to notice the scent getting stronger as she faced to the other side. She draws closer to the scent with caution and shrinks in a crouching position when she sees a small vole nibbling on something she couldn’t specify. It’s similar to the prey that she usually feasts at the prey pile, but alive. Unusually alive.

Bingo.

Okay, then, now what? Should she dash towards the vole and chase him down? Carppaw takes a few steps further, her hazel eyes swiveling back to her mentor. “What now, Sunheart?” She queries in a panicky whisper.

Sunstorm watched intently as the apprentice wobbled closer. "Keep your weight on your haunches, and step silently," he hissed quietly. He could see the vole, his green gaze narrowing. "When you're close enough that you feel comfortable leaping, leap, and sink your teeth into its neck," he mewed, almost silently, but loud enough for Carppaw to hear.
