She flicked her ears, annoyed, but otherwise unresponsive to the hornet's feedback.. what did 'too quick' even mean, both times she's practiced with Tigerpelt and Flintclaw they haven't even mentioned speed and she didn't think she was going too fast. If you move too slow then you have just as likely a chance of your prey fleeing. "That doesn't make sense, if you move too slow then won't your prey run off anyways? How fast am I supposed to move? If I crouch any lower then my fur will drag and that will scare of prey." She could understand scaring things off but Rosepaw had hardly even disturbed the world around her as she showed her crouch.
She gave a shudder at the thought of rolling around in mud, why would anyone do that? Surely the ambient scent of Thunder clan just living here is enough to cover their scents, that and standing down wind from the prey so nothing fresh hits their noses. Rosepaw didn't mean to be so argumentative but she has never seen a hunting patrol return so muddy and she has watched many many patrols come and go. She dreaded the idea of ruining her fur, and her nest, and the cleanliness! Oh that would be just torture. "Is mud necessary? I've never seen a hunting patrol return muddy, at least, it's not the normal."
Rosepaw waited for a response before deciding to actually use her skills, "Let me try and hunt and then you can give me feedback." It was a reasonable means of learning, especially after one has already received their beginner's lectures and there wasn't much else that could be spoken at her before it's the same things over and over again. After receiving some reply from her mentor, the russet tabby started a few tail lengths away before flicking her ears forward and stilling her tail, looking for any sign of prey.
[ D10 | 10 -> Success ]
She found something quickly and crouched down to the ground, diving through the undergrowth and remaining mindful of whatever was 'too fast' as directed by her mentor moments earlier. Through a fern that she was crouched behind, Rosepaw's eyes narrowed on their mark, some sort of bird... it had a red tummy and dark feathers.. it wasn't like any birds she's seen recently, but she wanted those feathers. Claws unsheathing, the feline approached to pounce.
[ D10 | 8 -> Success ]
The bird did startle, just moments before Rosepaw landed, but it hadn't had the time to take off before the apprentice latched her teeth into its neck and delivered a killing bite. The prey fell limp in her jaws and she stood up, ready to return to her mentor to show off her kill proudly.
Brackenclaw- He/Him, 36 moons old, Thunderclan Hornet. Purrks: Just a Scratch.
Brackenclaw's ear flicked as he noticed his apprentice wouldn't listen to him thinking action would be better he would also go into hunting mode smelling a vole nearby in fact quite the juicy vole. Brackenclaw would get low to the ground and slowly creep into the foliage himself using his dark fur to blend into the dark of the forest. He silently would creep comfortably close before pouncing and all the vole had time for was a tiny squeak before it went silent. Brackenclaw would also move out into the clearing and dropped his prey. Despite Rosepaw not listening she did do well to catch the bird he guessed he should at least acknowledge that much. "Good work Rosepaw. You used the undergrowth too covering your approach. As for the mud part I wasn't referring to hunting. When I went to the mountains to get the cure me and Raggedear attempted to find mud to mask our scents to observe the cats there without them smelling us. We wanted to make sure they weren't gonna rip us to shreds first. Just for clarification. I know I tend to leave some details out and that I apologize for." Brackenclaw would explain trying to let her know what he meant. Brackenclaw didn't want to confuse Rosepaw. He would think about the first time they met as he turned to bury his vole. "Bury your prey we will come back for it when we finish with the tour. It'll keep predators from stealing our prey." Brackenclaw would meow. Once they started to walk again Brackenclaw would turn to Rosepaw. "Do you happen to remember our first meeting?" Brackenclaw would ask the Apprentice.
scorpionpaw thunderclan apprentice | he/him | the rebel [4/100]
scorpionpaw furrowed his brow in annoyance. kiddo. he was gonna call sparrowpelt 'grandpa' if that nickname kept popping up. ears flattened back a tad, he moved to his feet and slouched after the warrior, paws dragging more than they needed to be. but he couldn't disguise the hesitation in his step as he reached the edge of camp. he'd only ever been out one other time, for a brief tour when he first got his mentor. it was almost as novel this time around.
he inhaled sharply and crossed the line with an awkward jump, as if there were a physical boundary to be overcome. hopefully grandpa didn't notice. he seemed pretty focused on the flowers and stuff. they were kind of pretty, he supposed.
after a moment, the warrior directed a question at him. this time, scorpionpaw didn't bite back the retort fast enough. "i dunno, aren't you supposed to train me?" he sniped, gaze flashing to the other cat in a mixture of nervousness and annoyance. truth be told, scorpionpaw was just scared he was going to say the wrong thing. there was probably some sort of order to this, like a starting point. what if sparrowpelt was testing him?

A brow raised on the warrior as he received the snap. It wasn't the first time he'd been snapped at by an apprentice and it certainly wouldn't be the last. His tail whipped once, but he kept his composure. He wasn't the type to snap at a younger cat who simply needed some guidance. Instead, a small huff escaped him and he turned his attention back towards the territory. "Well, if yer not gonna pick, yer gonna learn some basic huntin'. But I'll letcha decide between that, battle, 'n tree climbin'. Pick yer fate," Sparrowpelt simply spoke, taking a few more paces into the territory and halting to face Scorpionpaw again. This time, he was prepared to drop into a hunting crouch, unless the apprentice spoke up in time.

Mothflame nodded. That was good to hear. Not that she was worried about becoming a problem in the first place. She was quite certain she was never a problem.
... Ahem. Well, in most cases.
Her attention divided in an instant at Mountaintalon's comment, ears perking to pick up any sounds that may be useful in tracking down the prey. She looked to Mountaintalon, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"You gonna get that? Or..." She paused, then grinned. "Whoops! Too late!" With that, the scarred warrior took off, having located the rabbit in a split moment. Normally, she'd appreciate a hunting partner to jump in to make a final blow, but she was far too determined to chase the rabbit than consider help.
The rabbit didn't make it far before Mothflame launched herself at it, claws extended, easily and swiftly capturing it. She gave its neck a good bite, snapping it and killing the furry creature almost instantly. She returned to Mountaintalon with it hanging limp in her jaws, grinning. She wasn't the type to want to impress others so blatantly, but when the opportunity was right there... It was kind of hard to ignore. "Did you want that?" She chuckled, dropping the rabbit.

Before Mountaintalon could move, she'd already shot off. He'd taken about two pawsteps forward by the time she returned. Dark brows arched at the rabbit she dropped in front of him, and then he lifted his head and offered her a well-practiced smile.
"Impressive," he rumbled smoothly. "I can't say I know many warriors who are capable of taking down a rabbit on their own. Do you offer lessons?"

scorpionpaw nodded tersely, brow furrowed. hunting. yeah, he could do that. how hard could it be. he flinched slightly as sparrowpelt moved in an unexpected direction, watching the warrior pivot to face him. his ears flattened in suspicion, before he realized that he was probably getting ready for a demonstration. letting his fur fall flat, he matched the warrior's stance to the best of his ability.
"yeah, hunting sounds fine," he said, despite the fact that it was likely a given by this point. "so i'm like supposed to...crouch and pounce, yeah?" he bent his legs a little bit, probably looking like a cramped frog.

❀˚₊ “well now dear that's nothing to be worried about, I'll gladly teach you.” she assured the young apprentice. Hmm she'd never met an apprentice that was this…how do you say it? Dull??? Most were either loud and energetic, rude and angry or shy. This apprentice seemed almost boring- no that was rude. More like he'd never gotten a wink of sleep in his entire life, yet he seemed to be sleeping right before she'd approach him. Maybe he was just lazy? Well that wouldn't do! Nevertheless, Deersneeze would make sure to teach this apprentice to the best of her ability! Hopefully whoever this apprentice's mentor was, they wouldn't mind her snagging their apprentice for a little while.
❀˚₊ “Follow me child, I'll make sure to teach you the best that I'm able! It will be fun, I promise. I'm sure you do great even if it's you first try.” she spoke sweetly as she ushered the torbie towards the exit of camp. If they were lucky they could return to camp with enough prey to feed a handful of hungry kits, queens and elders. Greenleaf sure was generous when it came to food. Hopefully hunting would go well today.
~~~~~~
❀˚₊ The sunlight dappled path beneath their paws as it passed through the tree leaves above. She could here the chirping melody of birdsong above them and she spotted a view squirrels running up the sides of trees nearby. Those might prove difficult to catch for an apprentice with no experience hunting. Deersneeze cast a glance over her shoulder at the apprentice to make sure he was keeping up. He seemed to be quite the slow walker, he trailed a bit behind her and she found that she kept stopping and waiting for him to catch up constantly. She'd never met such a slow cat in her entire 40 moons of living. It really did confuse her.
❀˚₊ Finally she came to stop wants the reach a decent hunting spot. She waited for the apprentice to catch up before she continued talking. ”Before we begin hunting you must first learn the basics. There are different ways to go about hunting different types of prey so you should pay attention to what critter your after before you start your hunt. Mice are in my opinion the easiest to catch. As long as you stay down wind so they don't scent you, and you tread lightly and silently you should be able to catch one.”. The brown and cream molly lowered herself into a hunters crouch, keeping her tail low enough not to be seen but also making sure it was high enough of the ground so that it didn't disturb and foliage or drag. ”make sure to keep you tail still like so, and not rest it along the ground. If it drags it's creates sound which will alert your prey that you are there and if it's too high your prey will spot you easily.” standing up straight once more she gestured for the apprentice to try for himself. ” now you take a go at it, uh…apologies, I don't think I got your name! How rude of me, I'm Deersneeze and you are?”
⊹₊⟡⋆ The diluted torbie apprentice trailed behind the irritatingly-overly sweet warrior, he didn't get the cheeriness? What was there to be so happy about!? They were just going hunting. Honeypaw placed each paw sluggishly in front of the other, already missing the comforts of his nest. There were splotches of light along the ground, one glance up told him the leaves of the trees towering above him was what was blocking the sun– and the sky. Honeypaw let out a bored huf and looked back towards the warrior eyeing the flowers decorating her fur again. He glanced back at his own tangled and rather dirty fur, and didn't look so neat now. The apprentice stopped briefly to try and brush his fur down to no avail after weeks or more so moons of leaving it unkempt. When Honeypaw looked back towards the warrior he realized she had stopped walking again and was waiting for him. He picked up his pace to catch up, she didn't start walking again which told him they must've made it to the location they'd been walking to. Blue eyes scanned the location, it was nothing special. Just looked like more forest and undergrowth like the places they had been traveling through the entire time.
⊹₊⟡⋆ As the older she cat spoke, and told him about how there were different kinds of prey and different ways to catch them and blah blah blah-- he raised his paw to scratch behind his ear in disinterest. Of course he already knew this, common knowledge really! There should be no cat dumb enough to believe you could catch a bird the same way you caught a squirrel. That's just plain old dumb. Honeypaw watched as the warrior got into a hunting crouch, demonstrating it for him and instructing him on how to stand and why. The apprentice didn't necessarily wait for her to instruct him to try before he was mimicking her pose. Back straight, tail hovering above the ground, not too high and not low. Careful paw placement. Like this? It was probably like this.
⊹₊⟡⋆ His ear twitched at the warriors apologetic introduction and then her question. ”Honeypaw.” he replied simply, standing up from the hunting crouch. ”Thought you already knew that? I am one of the former medicine cats kits after all” he said this with a bit of pride. Drizzlemom had been medicine cat for thunderclan and at one point and she certainly must've been excellent! Unforgettable and a legend even if she had retired she would always hold that special title. As for his biological mother, Drizzlemom had always spoken good things about Spring! She had also been a medicine cat and apparently he had her eyes and resembled her in some way less than Kes had of course. Apparently Kes looked almost like a mini carbon copy of Spring. So yeah, both his mom's were really special and important! Sparrowdad is cool too. So of course he was proud. Though deersneeze’s expression confused him. She didn't look in awe at the fact she was talking to the two former medicine cats' sons or even intrigued. She didn't even look neutral. If anything her expression looked briefly uncomfortable Before she returned to smiling. A tighter, thin smile. Not at all friendly.
⊹₊⟡⋆ Honeypaw felt confused, what kind of reaction was that? Had he said something wrong?? The apprentice looked around and behind him to check if there was anything else the warrior could have been reacting to but there was nothing but the usual plant life. ”What…” he asked looking back at deersneeze.
❀˚₊ The apprentice hadn't even waited for her gesture before he was already mimicking her pose almost perfectly, on his first try too! He had seemed disinterested the entire time she had been teaching him but he seemed to be taking this seriously so that was a start! Deersneeze smiled at the apprentice’s effort ”Yes well done! That's perfect” she praised with a purr. When the apprentice straightened up again and introduced himself as Honeypaw, she dipped her head in acknowledgement. However the apprentice didn't stop there, he went on to boast about his mother proudly and that- that was something Deersneeze couldn't help frowning at. Spring, spring was no one to be proud of. The owl taking her had been out of her control, yes that was her only pass but the moons spent away…they moons she left the clan without trained healers! Those moons where many of the clanmates had been lost to that cursed illness: her own baby sister included. There was no defense for that. She could have fought to come home but instead she chose to help strangers, get pregnant and all that garbage. Deersneeze was always quick to forgive but she couldn't this time. Not when something so important to her had been ripped away, something that could have had a chance at being prevented if the clan's former medicine cat had done her stars damned job. The brown and cream molly forced a smile back on her face.
❀˚₊ Her attention returned to the apprentice who had a look of confusion on his face. Oh? Did this child not know about his mother's crimes? You would have thought someone would have told him or that he would have heard about them by now. Maybe drizzle and sparrow had been sheltering the spring kits from that knowledge. Well they would have to learn at some point. ”I do know your mother child, though she isn't someone you should be proud of” Deersneeze watched the confusion in the kids' eyes deepen as well as the offense. That confirmed her suspicions. ”I would have thought Spring's kit would know about her exile but I suppose you don't. Your mother was indeed the former medicine cat however even if she had lived through her kitting she wouldn't have had a place here. Not anymore. Spring neglected her duties as a medicine cat during a time in which the clan needed her. Her being taken was something that was out of her control but she chose to not return for moons knowing we had no other healers. There is more to the story than just that but her foolishness cost our clan many lives in those moons she wasn't here and she was rightfully exiled for it.” Deersneeze didn't want to go into the details and tried to keep the bitterness out of her voice as she spoke to the apprentice. At least he knew some of it now, if he wanted to know more he could always ask someone else. Maybe someone who could explain it from a more neutral perspective and not someone like her who would only ever see Spring in a bad light.
❀˚₊ ”Anyway, enough about the past. Your hunting crouch was excellent! Would you like to try out hunting now or should I demonstrate that too for you first?” she offered, trying to divert the conversation back to hunting, after all that's why they were out here.
'Lotusclan', yea that could be a good clan name; but clans are nothing without it's cats. There's a lot of cats in Thunderclan. But maybe his little imaginary Lotusclan didn't need that many cats to function.
Wouldn't be able to remember that much cats in your head anyway, so there's no use making up that much cats just to forget about them. What about the leader? The medicine cats? The deputy? What should they be named
..hm...maybe...doesn't matter. Maybe that doesn't matter yet. Maybe. For leaders he'd only need to think of the first half of their name, and end everything in 'star'. Deputy..he wasn't really interested in a deputy character. Maybe they didn't need to get too involved. Medicine cats too. He just wanted a name for a clan that didn't exist, a place to let his daydreaming habits to live. He had a clan now. What name should a warrior have? He didn't want to name them any names that the real cats he knows already have...cute names would work. He likes cure names. Maybe..Rainydoe? How would this cat act? Maybe she could be more friendly. But maybe she could have a secret of something that puts herself distant from others. Maybe there could be a kind cat that reaches out to Rainydoe.
Shorecaller was just sitting alone in the territory, between the trees that shaded some Thunderclan from the sun's gaze. He'd just sit there listening to the chirping of the birds.
the birds sounded happy when they sing, don't they? You can't speak their words. You can't understand how they are. You can only speak as yourself, becaus eyou're just a cat. You're not someone that understands dogs or bigger cats. It's always impressive when someone can do that. But it's just not you
So what is he good at? Huh..it's a question a little out of topic.. well, he's sitting here having a conversation in his head with no one. Maybe he was good at daydreaming. But was he really? Besides, it's not really a skill like hunting or fighting. Can't be fighting. He hated seeing cats bleed. Because blood is... It was the water that flows in a living being. If it drains, then a small part of it drains along with it. Whether the wounds would be mended or left to continue pouring. But there's...there's really no need to think too hard on it. So. Why was he making it complicated for himself? Blood is blood, a red liquid. Usually a sign of injury or pain. And he hated it. So he's never becoming good at battling; never had, anyway. He was no bringer of death.
No bringer of death. But you have cats that you wish would burn under your paws. What kind of hypocrisy is that? Do you want or not want violence?
That was a good point...he didn't know. Maybe sometimes he does crave blood. He wa far from perfect. But he didn't want to be the one that draws it from his enemies. He didn't want to be their cause of death. And. Besides. Daydreaming about random, little stuff that don't matter is a good way to let yourself focus on things that won't make you want to hit someone in the head. So? Does he want to fight, or want to not fight? Does he want to fight because he wants to, or does he feel like he needs to? Does he not want to fight because he'd feel guilt, or because of some other reason. He didn't know what he wanted. If he doesn't know himself well, no one would know him well. Sometimes he forces himself to look away at the sight of blood and death. Sometimes he craves it for those he felt like needed it..
The topic's getting too complicated. Just go back to your imaginary little clan and save yourself the headache. Go back to camp unless you want to stick out as this random cat in the territory doing nothing useful. There was probably more cats in camp to hide yourself among
Right..but even a cat like Shorecaller needed some entertainment sometimes..
