rookfires ambush lesson with hawkbite lay back a while. he’d taken the time to practice it on his own every once in a while. it wasn’t really hard to find the time, not when he had already gotten into the habit of practicing his stealth wherever he went. perhaps that was something he’d never quite shed. the first few insecure moons spent trying his absolute best to catch up to the other apprentices and warriors that had practiced this their whole life, who seemed to have a special talent for turning into a shadow itself.

still, it wasn’t like he was particularly bad, just not born and raised in shadowclan. that was it. anyhow, like any sane warrior, rook didn’t immediately run to teach the first apprentice he saw the skill he himself had barely just learnt. itd been long enough by now though and yarrowpaw had just completed her hunting training the day before so there was really no time better than now.

”yarrowpaw, lets continue with your training hm?”

rookfire went through all the steps he usually did, only this time, he intentionally took the apprentice far into the territory. out to where the canopy filtered the sun and it was permanently colder than in camp, particularly harshly so during leafbare.

”you’ve learned how to hunt prey. but prey is not all we need to know how to track down. we’ll look at ambush today, ‘s practically like hunting and stealth combined, except your prey is a lot smarter than the average bunny” the large tom opened, pacing back and forth in the small clearing.

”what do you think is most important for ambush? n what do you have to worry about more when it’s a cat rather than prey”

Yarrowpaw looked up from grooming her fur, ears immediately erect at the call of her name from a familiar voice. Pleased that Rookfire decided to further her training, Yars leapt to her paws. Bounding over to the Enforcer's side and shaking out her pelt as she went. "Yessir! Let's!" She mewed happily. Yars, typically grumpy, was thrilled by the prospect of training with one of her father's colleague's. This could only be informative right? As she followed Rookfire, she couldn't help but wonder what training he had in store for her this time.

She was largely undisturbed by the change in temperature, but it was something she took note of. Not necessarily because she was cold, but it was noticeable. Cooler air had...a different scent. Different feeling. She stood in one place, watching as he paced, and nodded eagerly. A grin forming on her maw. Yes! This sounds fun! She mentally cheered. She flicked an ear thoughtfully at the question. "Patience? And...maybe intelligence?" She mewed in response to the first part of his question. Stealth was a given, she didn't think he was looking for something that obvious. "Cats are more intelligent than prey. Prolly gotta think outside the box to set a trap." She mused, brushing her paw under her chin thoughtfully before looking back up at the tom, waiting eagerly for his response.
