Duskclaw watched Claypaw struggle but stood tall, trusting she can reach him. "Sure I would." The sarcasm in his voice was far more noticeable than his attempts at joking around. "Paddle with a steady pace, Claypaw. You look like a ThunderClan cat trying to swim like that." Now that he was somewhat sure the small cat could not immediately drown, Duskclaw could afford to be a bit harsher and more pushy with lessons.

"I think I'm doing better than a Thunderclan cat!" Claypaw huffed as she swam. She didn't know of any Thunderclanner to swim! Granted, it was because she didn't know any Thunderclan cats, but that was besides the point. Still, a few more paddles had her getting into something of a stride. And then finally, finally, she felt her paws touch the sandy stream bed. With a proud grin, she trudged up to Duskclaw. "That wasn't so bad! Betcha I'll do even better next time!"

"That I'm sure you will." Duskclaw leans down to match his apprentice's eye level. "But let's be clear: you're learning. Don't get ahead of yourself when it comes to water. Even the strongest RiverClan swimmers can be dragged straight to StarClan if they aren't careful." The massive tom leaned up and licked one of his paws.
Duskclaw thought about where to go from here. Throwing Claypaw around in the water would be fun but this first attempt clearly left her out of breath. Duskclaw taught me how to swim by repeatedly throwing me into a deep pool. Wasn't a quote he wanted to hear repeated back to him by Primroseadder or Owlstar. One time was already pushing it. Sensible types of training were off the table, too. Walking and explaining leads to weak Warriors, only testing lead to strength.

"Can you catch fish, Claypaw?"

"Yeah, yeah." Claypaw nodded along, half paying attention. She couldn't wait to tell her brother all about learning to swim. Stepping away from Duskclaw, Claypaw shook herself to get rid of the extra water dripping off of her. Light colored fur still pressed to her side, but it did feel a bit lighter. Wait, what did he say about fishing? "Nope! You showin' up to the meetin' was more than my last mentor did! Are we gonna do more swimmin' and some fishing?!"

"No, we've done enough today." Duskclaw yawned. "But tomorrow get up early. I'll invite a friend of mine to our fishing training." He turned a bit to lead the way back to the RiverClan camp before stopping and looking back at Claypaw.

"Aw, okaaaay." At least she knew that they would be doing something tomorrow. Claypaw had already been hyping up the potential of fishing. She still had some energy left! Wait, mister grumpy face has friends? He, from the handful of previous experiences always seemed like a gloomy, broody, loner type. What Hickorypaw kind of hoped to look like, except more "romantic". Whatever that meant. Claypaw followed after Duskclaw with a spirited smile. "So, who's the friend? Course I'll be good even with them 'round. No need to worry."

"Floodsight." His tone was flat and his words quick. Duskclaw continued walking back to camp.
[Will make next post in riverclan clearing, taking place a day later.]
Pikekit head swivelled around, no Lotuskit? Huh he must’ve chickened out. That didn’t matter much to Pikekit, he still had Faithkit and Frigidkit on his side and he’d venture forth as such. ”Well Lotus ain’t coming, but it’s alright Faithkit we’ve got this! We just need to find some cats to build our clan.” He wasn’t really sure which way he should be going now, but of course he would lead the charge with utmost confidence.
”This way! The adventure goes forth chaps!” He squealed in a scarily accurate rendition of Owlstar’s voice once more. Picking a definite direction and quite honestly hoping to instill some courage into the other kits. He made sure he rounded each kit up, he couldn’t be loosing anymore of his party now could he. Treading merrily along with a chirp in his step.
The youngsters finally arriving at a small pond, the edges basked in reeds and the water reflecting a delicate glow. He certainly couldn’t smell any other cats, he was almost certain that they still remained in Riverclan territory. He leaned down to take some water and gently wash it over his head to refresh his thoughts. It was only a surface pond, not particularly deep but a good place to brainstorm what came next.
[ @Star @Minku ]
[ Versailles has let me know to off screen Lotus chickening out as they’re currently on hiatus <3 Minku feel free to continue with the posting order as before! c: ]
Frigid-sib Lotus was a scaredy-cat! BUT FRIGID SURE WASN'T!!! The best warrior is aaaaalways brave and strong and stuff! Never afraid to go on adventures or something!!! As long as Lotuskit doesn't rat them out, THEY'RE NOT GONNA GET CAUGHT! "well, Frigid thinks this is a good idea!! As long as we don't get caught, we'll gonna do all sorts of cool stuff!!!" especially Frigidkit, he's gonna do all the cool stuff tonight.
Ehehehehehehehe, ADVENTURE ADVENTURE ADVENTURE!!!!!! SET SAIL!! "Yeyeyeyea! C'moooooon! Adventure!!!!" was Pikekit posessed by Ms. Owls? But if Frigid-sib was Ms. Owls, they would've been caught by now! Terrifying "Pikekit can't sound like Ms. Owls forever!! Maybe Pikekit won't be able to sound like Pikekit anymore!!" Frigidkit was taking his small kit steps as he walked beside Frigid-sib. Pikekit might be having problems with not sounding like himself, but if he worries then this journey won't be fun or cool!! Frigid was here for a fun adventure, so he'll get a fun adventure!
Ooooooooooo MORE WATER!!!! Pretty water! "Does Pikekit or Faithkit find anything cool???" HMM. Oh, Pike was washing his face in the water; Frigidkit was always dirty, so he didn't particularly need it. But he wanted to see what it was like to be a swimy fish..
So he submerged his whole face in the water
He pulled his face out; now Frigidkit face soggy! Only the face, he was dry anywhere else. That's why he only shook his face to get allllllll the water shaken out! His face was still soggy, but willing to continue this fun journey. "Fun!!" fun activity, would highly recommend! "Has Pikekit or Faithkit found anything cool yet????" did he already ask that? Couldn't have already asked, riiiiight?? "Do Pike and Faith think there's any fish in the pond??" feesh! A good warrior knows how to find fish and how to fish!
Owlstar pursed her lips at his comment before shrugging. "Eh, when ya 'ave a clan ta look after, ya don't really 'ave time ta frolic." she pointed out, wriggling her haunches slightly as she squinted from the sun bouncing off water. She couldn't help but send him another look as he spoke once more. "Uh-huh." She mewed, not offering a counter to her reply. Her eyes hadn't left him after that, watching as he rather humorously caught of fish but let it swim off without him.
Owlstar would've cackled if she wasn't so close to prey, her expression twisting to hold in her laughter. Instead, they came out in abrupt giggles, shoulders bobbing. He looked absolutely ridiculous, scrambling up and down the bank like that. She got the feeling he had too much ego for his own good, but he was so miserably bad at being "cool" that his massive ego didn't even matter. What an odd cat.
"Ah, pretty good catch, chap! 'Part from the fact ya dropped it." What? He was easy to tease, no shame in that. And she was being somewhat truthful anyways, he wasn't bad at hunting, not by any means, but if he wasn't so busy smiling he probably wouldn't have dropped it in the first place. "Ya oughta improve yer focus las, cain't 'ave ya on another river when things get tight." Maybe it was second nature, but Owlstar managed to weave the topic of battle into any conversation she could. Her mind was lazer focused on it, wondering when some huge tide would come to sweep her clan into the deep end.
She couldn't have that, not again. Stars, they were all counting on her. She had everything to loose. She wouldn't allow herself the privilege of a normal conversation without finding someway to reinforce her push for clan security. It was second nature.
'Probably just what bein' leader feels like. It's my job ta worry, ain't it? Owlstar thought, only then noticing her expression had grown sour as she looked to the river. The tabby flinched before blinking. She smiled toothily and cleared her throat. What was he talking about?
"Ha! Yer river, eh? Why don't cha take my clan too, hm?" she swatted some water at him. Finally, she got out of her crouch and straightened into a sit. "Eh, I come out 'ere as often as time let's me. I hate bein' stuck, eh? Needed ta get out 'ere n' do somethin'. What 'bout ya?" her eye turned towards him, ears swerving to better catch his words. "Bolt through trees often?"

Skywalker nodded along with Owlstar's words as though the very understandable and real answer she gave him wasn't in response to his ridiculous question. "Oh yeah, makes all the sense in the world, yep."
Her laughter at his incredible kill earned a sharp grin and a small flick of water in her direction. "I promise, that was a one-time thing. Can you blame a guy for being nervous in your presence?" He snickered, tail flicking the water cheerily like a kit. "Man you think about the clan at all moments of the day, huh! Gotta admit, that's dedication." His green eyes glittered with the flickering water, before he spotted another fish darting past him. He lunged for it, slamming a heavy cream paw onto its back and dragging it with wicked claws up to his face so he could bite it. Once it was still, he chucked it back onto the bank, then shot Owlthroat a cheeky look. "What was that about being on the other side of the river, 'lad'?""
Skywalker was for once quiet as Owlstar explained her reasoning for being out here. He focused on the fish, her words flitting between his ears like minnows. When she finished with a question, he chuckled. "Yeah, as much as I can. I know it's a WindClan thing, but I got a love for speed I guess. I guess it's the same reason as you. Just gotta do something. Hate being stuck."
Heroneye watched as Seapaw raced foreward, her eyes fixed on his movements and tense to dodge away again. It seemed like he was about to pass by her right side, but suddenly he began to race to the left and attempted to leap from there.
[ Heroneye rolled a three out of ten. ]
Heroneye sensed the change a heartbeat too late, and before she could duck out of the way or resist the move in some other way, Seapaw had managed to leap onto her back again. At this, Heroneye once again shook the apprentice off and turned to address them.
"You seem to have gotten the hang of that as well," she appraised with a quick nod. "With that, I would like to move on to the final stage of this battle training now: proper sparring. While you've gotten a taste of that during the previous exercise, I would like to finish by giving a clearer view of what a real exchange between warriors on a battlefield might look like.
"Imagine that we're in a battle, and I'm an outsider or a warrior another Clan. Try to attack me, be it with moves we've learned today, or something of your own." For the final time that day, Heroneye crouched down, readying herself for whatever moves Seapaw might throw at her. While she wasn't going to brutalize the apprentice, obviously, she also didn't want to hold back too much, for the sake of Seapaw's learning. This time, she wouldn't be bested so easily (if she could help it!).
"Whenever you're ready."
(apologies for any delay, i've been sick these past few days and have just begun to feel back to normal ^^)
