Sootbird's eyes clouded with apprehension. The sun was finally setting, reminiscing on the sunrise that had come before. Dusk was near, and the singed edges of the sky created an array of sunlight that tickled the tops of the trees with a warm glow. As her eyes drifted slowly across the clearing, she caught a kit picking at the grass. The image was all too familiar, a filthy guilt washed over her, clearing her mind of worthless thoughts for a while. The golden honey of the sun trickled across the clearing for a moment and wind rushed through her fur. She had to remember to be sensible, not emotionally-blind. Soot inhaled deep - pushing her senseless assumptions and actions aside. She carefully approached the kit, mind stumbling over excuses or first words to ask or say.

"Practicing gathering?"

A quiet, gentle voice flowed from her teeth. For once, she didn't sound like a stuttering mess, for once she was confident. After becoming an apprentice, she had found herself so overwhelmed. Maybe things were finally getting better after becoming a warrior; for their was always a sun after a storm, always a plant after a raging fire.

"I'll be the best herb collector ever!"

Nightkit was sitting alone, as per usual, the inky black she-kit picking up bits of grass. She wove some of them into little squares, and set them down carefully, in organised piles based on size. Suddenly, a voice interrupted her thoughts, and the black and white she turned around, pale blue eyes wide. "Of a sort." Star replied, taking in the newcomer. Tilting her head curiously, she said, "...I apologise, but I don't think I know your name. I'm Nightkit, but people call me Star. W-who are you?" This was said quietly, but since it was only one cat, she was more confident than usual.

Right - Sootbird shouldn't assume Nightkit knew of her. She was some random cat in Nightkit's eyes, and that must be odd.

"Oh, um, I'm Sootbird. Nobody really calls me anything else, but you're free to."

Her eyes slowly made their way back to the kit after trailing over the various shapes stacked with grass. It was odd, but in a cool way. Never had she seen a kit whose creativity was expressed as abstractly as this. It was interesting to watch, admittedly.

"Why do you like gathering?"

Sootbird wasn't usually talkative, but she was generally curious. Curiosity hardly ever bested her - but here, she let it win. She was eager to learn more about this kit for whatever reason her mind made up. She personally had never gotten into gathering, though if for a patrol she'd do it without a fuss. To see some cat like something she was very impartial to was so enthralling.

Nightkit smiled at Sootbird, flicking her ear. "Nice t-to meet you, Sootbird.." Swishing her tail, the black and white kit turned back to her grass piles, neatly placing another on top of her piles. At the warriors question, Star turned around again, washed out, pale blue eyes glimmering. Why did she like gathering.. After a moment, her white socked paw tapped on the ground once, then she curled her fluffy tail around her petite paws. "I like to organise things. It's grounding- And, I love collecting. Herbs and different plants are a favourite of mine, so grass is just.. Another way to do that, especially since kits are not allowed out of camp."

Sootbird felt the wind hit her face, as if mesmerizing her in the moment. The inside of her mouth felt so dry and she had no idea what to say. What was she passionate about? It was an odd realization. Nightkit had a nice set of shoulders to pave the way for her future interests - but when she thought about it, Sootbird had never resided with favorites. She had been too focused on her dull reality to see the footing in front of her. It was a nasty habit she'd formed when she was really going through it. Look towards the future and keep stepping forward. She didn't have any goals, and now that she was a warrior she was completely stumped.

"That's nice."

She mumured, voice treading lightly so she didn't disturb the atmosphere.

"I've nev'r really had anythin' I'm passionate about. It's good that you do - it's nice to see, really."

A soft laugh escaped her small figure, light blue eyes flashing Nightkit an invested look.

"Most kits I see are chasing each others tails and leaping after leafs. I mean, nothin's wrong with that, I did it too. I guess, 'm puzzled."

She leaned down, slowly, softly, trying not to irk the kit. She lightly moved to a crouched position, a confused look clouding her gaze, like she was trying to figure her out. Which Sootbird was, in a sense.

"What makes plants so special to ya?"
