Timberwolf didn't need her patrol buddies! She was more than capable herself. Her hackles threatened to rise at the very notion she was anything but capable, independent. Maybe clan life wasn't for her... the idea of leaving tinykit behind didn't set well in her mouth the clan was no doubt a support system enough.

She could heard the nagging voice of one of her patrol mates; another cat in the ocean of felines that's swum the camps land. Timberwolf made a point of darting in the opposite direction of where they were.

Green eyes were quick to pick up on the red heads of the poppy plants. They seemed to grow relatively close, their heads no doubt full of seeds! She didn't really bother to check but carefully, she picked them from the base of their plants, and began to tiptoe her way back to camp. It was pointless taking them all the way back if the seeds were just going to fall out on the journey-- might as well be careful!

Rockfall Shade // Sorry about Timberwolf! Feel free to do the rest of the patrol without me.

Fizzlepaw knew he shouldn't be out by himself, bit was really hoping to find someone from Riverclan. He hated the clan his had become. Coyotes were killing river cats. He didn't know what he'd do if he lost his gathering buddy Gentlefoot. She was his friend. Thunderclan was just slowly sinking and he was not happy with his leader at all. First the coyotes then changing his mentor then sending the coyotes towards Rivercla. Even if it were an accident it still could have been avoided. Fizzlepaw no longer wanted anything to do with his clan. The apprentice sat down on the Thunderclan side of the border to wait for a cat to come by yo talk to them.

Fawnpaw padded along the border in his one-cat border patrol. He had already caught several fish and some mice today and just wanted to lollygag around. He caught the scent of another cat and straightened up, almost hissing when he smelled Thunderclan before remembering that he was next to the Thunderclan border.
(is this a thunderpath border, a river border, or a land border?)

Fizzlepaw saw a cat, scenting Riverclan on him. Oh good he didn't have to wait much longer. The apprentice looked at him. "Paw fizzle no harm means.", he meowed in his strange speach(what he said was Fizzlepaw means no harm). Fizzlepaw waited a few moments. He wanted to wait until this cat trusted him a bit. Okay...?
Fawnpaw narrowed his eyes, now fully facing the cat. He had only been to one gathering so far and barely knew any of the cats in other clans. Why was this tom talking to him anyway? Was something up in Thunderclan. He regarded the tom suspiciously.

Fizzlepaw heard the sure and prepared himself for the few questions. "Is river cold? It fun to swim?", he asked. He had been fasinated with water lately and if he were to join them later he wnated to know if he'd like it. Maybe it was better than climbing trees. He saw cats do that and he hated it.

Fawnpaw hesitated before answering.
Swimming is pretty fun. It's cold when you first get in, but you get used to it.
Why was this cat asking questions anyway? It didn't really seem like making small talk by the border was a very smart thing to do, especially since they were both apprentices and still hadn't proved themselves yet. But, maybe that's just a normal thing to Thunderclan cats.

Starlingflight padded along the border that separated RiverClan from ThunderClan. The two Clans were feuding, and Starlingflight wanted to get away from the hostility and tensions. What did it matter? Kits and loved ones died all the time. They were never gone; StarClan was a thing, but lately, Starlingflight's faith had begun to dwindle in her ancestors. The medicine cats were as crazy for bloodshed as half the leaders were, and it didn't give Starlingflight any comfort thinking that their ancestors would allow this.

Like how they allowed my kit to drown... Starlingflight thought to herself miserably, the old ache that never fully went away made her chest tighten, and she had trouble breathing for a few heartbeats. But it was too late. She could only see her precious Featherkit being swept away by the flood, her tiny head disappearing under the rushing black water.

Her body had never resurfaced. Starlingflight had never discussed the father; He had been a rogue she had met when she was young and stupid, and StarClan had punished her for her disloyalty. She had not made the same mistake since. Oh no...she had no interest in reliving the horrors of losing another cat she loved. She was distant with her Clanmates, a grieving queen with no other purpose or motivation to get out of her nest than to hunt for her Clan and protect their borders.

She stopped and looked up at the trees around her. She was far away from the dreadful river that had taken the only bit of joy she had had in her life. The black and white she-cat's paws trembled, and she was forced to lay down. Her maw split wide, letting out a long, chilling wail of grief into the air. Though her kit was lost long ago, she carried the guilt and grief with her. There was no cure for her broken heart.

Junipersong looked down at the red pool of chopped flesh before her. Guts, viscera, bits of bones, some of them broken, and plenty of scraps of coyote fur. It was a horrible sight, it already was starting to reek, too. It took her a moment. Color came back to her eyes as she realized what had just transpired. Oh no..... Taking a cautious step back. What had she done? This was horrible. On so many levels it was absolutely atrocious. Even being done to a coyote, it was just a pup.... She didnt have to get so excessive. She didnt have to...

She ran out of the coyote den. Her paws were a deep red, along with her muzzle and some of her front. Looking as if she was dipped into a pool of sanguine ichor. The heavy smell of blood, death, and decay hung on her pelt. She was mortified by her own actions. She needed a way to get away, to rest and recollect herself after what happened. Maybe then she would be able to go back to camp and tell Kestrelwing what happened. Starclan, she didnt even want to THINK about what his opinion on her would be after he found out.

It was during her panic that she raced past a tree and tumbled right over Starlingflight mere moments that the wail of grief was announced to the sky above. Thankfully not actually crashing into the queen, instead having to pull a last minute jump over them with an ungraceful landing. Scampering to get back onto her paws. "Oh, sorry, didnt see you there" She said, sounding uneasy. It was rather strange behavior for the big girl, as even in other clans she was starting to get well-known for how friendly and outgoing she was, so this shifty behavior would seem incredibly abnormal, especially to her own clanmates.

So shocked was she to see a cat drenched in blood exploding from the grass right at her that Starlingflight's wail cut off into a strangled screech of alarm. She flattened herself as the molly jumped, whipping around and rearing back. For a moment, she hardly recognized her Clanmate, the stench of hot blood and the reek of coyote was overwhelming her Clanmate's scent, and with claws and teeth bared, she sprung at the she-cat. Her pounce landed short and claws sheathed as Starlingflight stared at the bloody cat. "Junipersong?" The black and white molly gasped, taking in the other's appearance. "What in the world happened? Are you alright? Are the coyotes back?"

The last question caused the fur along her spine to lift, but as she stepped closer to sniff, she realized that none of the blood was Junipersong's. Stepping back, the older molly narrowed her eyes at her Clanmate. She said nothing further, but the cold glint in her dead, pale eyes told Junipersong every suspicion she had, and the young molly's behavior confirmed it. There was a silence now, as Starlingflight waited for an answer.

Bumblestep padded back to the Smallpines clearing, a large leaf bundle carrying a single marigold flower and a poppy seeds nestled in his jaws. "Lizardfrost!" He called, his voice muffled. "Its time to head back!"

A quick scan around the clearing showed no signs of Timberwolf, something that made disappointment and agitation spread through his pelt. I'm going to have to tell Snakeheart about this... sometime when hes less stressed.

Junipersong didnt even move to defend herself as Starlingflight took an aggressive leap toward her. Though whether that was because of her blind trust in her clanmates, or because she was just so shocked at the current moment from something unknown, was up in the air.

Breathlessly, she shook her head in response to that last question. The coyotes were not back. Or at least, the ones that were had been dealt with. It was what she had done to the ones that returned that was currently haunting her. "They.... the coyotes... are dealt with. Dont worry about them. A-and dont go looking for them, either. There is no need" Which sounded incredibly strange coming from her typically confident voice. The wavering and unease that she was constantly exuding left the situation feeling far too awkward. "How are you, why are you out here?" She nervously asked, trying to change the topic.

Starlightflight stared for a moment longer before she twitched her tail and snorted. "Do you think me a fool, Juniper?" She meowed quietly to the other. Starlingflight rose to her paws, "Tell me now, or I go straight to Lionstorm." She glanced down at the blood, and she sighed, "Nevermind. Let's get that washed off. If the patrols catch a whiff of you, they'll be in a frenzy. Both ThunderClan and RiverClan." She mewed, her gruffness gone. She could see Junipersong was upset, but she couldn't just go racing around the territory covered in the scents of blood, viscera and coyote.

Flicking her tail, she gestured the other she-cat to follow her. "Come on. I'll tell you why I'm out here while you clean yourself off." She began padding for the river. Like always as she drew close to the treacherous waters, the memories flooded back into her mind, and it took all of her strength to keep going.

(So, Junipersong reports back to kes later and she is still covered in blood, so to avoid a paradox, she cant get cleaned off. If you want her to soak in some water and the blood doesnt come off very much, that works fine, though!)

"What? No I wasn't doing anything! There is nothing to report. No reason to anyways. No one should know about it." She was very bad about lying and hiding her feelings, as normally she never had a reason to. Starting to bounce back and forth between both paws, a dance that normally was very happy and energetic now seeming shifty and indicative of something being hidden behind those strange actions. "I dont think thats a good idea to stick around here. Besides I need to report back to Kestrelwing about the patrol and how it was a success. Cant we maybe walk and talk? Or hunt or do something else to distract ourselves?"

She looked down in the water. She definitely could use a drink right now after what happened, and maybe getting cleaned off would be a good idea. Some way to wash off proof of her sins. However, staying in the area around the den was only gonna make her feel more and more uneasy as time went by.

((I wouldn't expect that much blood would wash out of fur easily anyway XD But that works for me))

She looked over her shoulder at the other warrior, and she narrowed her eyes. "You should relax. Acting so unlike yourself is like one of those big Twoleg signs announcing something for the whole world to see." She rolled her eyes. "Walk and talk. You don't look like you could catch a mouse right now, and no prey is going to be anywhere around that stench."

The older molly looked back at Junipersong, "Nothing to report....but you're going to report to Kestrelwing?" Young warriors! They wear their feelings on their sleeves, metaphorically. She didn't press further as they padded together.

After a few moments, Starlingflight mewed sadly, "I came out here to get away from everything. The hostilities. The bloodthirst. Honestly, it doesn't matter to me the way it does to everyone else. I lost nothing when the coyotes attacked. Maybe a few Clanmates..." That's all they were to her. Clanmates. Not friends. Not loved ones. Just cats she lived with. If only Featherkit had lived....

Why was hiding her emotions such a challenge. Surely acting aloof and closed off couldnt be so hard, right? One would think that, but every part of her was giving off her current uneasy state. Her stature, intonation of voice, nervously trying to deflect things or change the topic, the shuffling of her paws side to side. "I mean..... okay." She wanted to say no, but it might be best to listen to the queen. The wisdom and experience of someone so much older shouldn't be ignored.

"Well I mean. I s-still have to tell him that nothing of significance happened, right? Even if nothing happened, I cant just NOT report back to him." Something in her gut lurched about the idea of talking to Kestrelwing, and it wasn't just about admitting what she had done.

Wincing as Starlingflight mentioned trying to get away from the bloodlust. If that was the case, Junipersong should just hightail it. She never knew she had been capable of something like this. What if that anger she took out on the wolf pup eventually turned towards her clanmates? What if- No! She was letting her thoughts wander too far. She would never let that happen. "What is the reason for traveling out here, then?" she asked amidst the flurry of her own thoughts.

As they neared the river, she slowed to a stop and stared at the flowing water. "I wanted to get away from the river..." She admitted. It was kind of ironic, coming from a RiverClan cat. She could swim, sure. All RiverClan cats could. Except for kits.

Starlingflight shrugged and gestured to the water with her tail. "Try and wipe some of that off." She instructed, sitting and curling her long feathery tail around her paws. Her thoughts were in turmoil as she gazed at the churning river, and the sickening pit in her stomach seemed to expand so much it threatened to swallow her whole. She could no longer look at the river, and she turned her gaze to stare at a lone dandelion on the river's bank where she sat.

"I wanted to get away from the river that took my kit many moons ago...she'd be about your age right now.." Starlingflight murmured, her shoulders hunched as she recalled her tiny and precious daughter.

"Oh you did? Why bring me back then, friend? I dont judge for disliking river. Moving water can be scary." Too naive to understand what was going on.

Looking down at the water as it flowed by. So clean and pure, a contrast to Junipersong's current state, both in body and in mind. Carefully stepping towards the bank, her paw grazing the surface of the chill water. Usually a Riverclan cat would be delighted to take a bath, given a reason to, but she seemed more than hesitant to step into the water. She was about to turn and ask if this was really a good idea when Starlingflight spoke up about her lost kit.

Ears flattening, tail drooping as sorrow reflected across her gaze. "Oh. Im.... Im sorry. I do not know what to say, friend...."

The molly shrugged. "Don't be. Not many cats know about Featherkit's fate, or even remember her. She was only two moons old..." The she-cat mewed. "I...you're the first cat who I've..spoken to about her. I don't know why. Both of us seem to have some dark secrets," She cast a knowing look to Junipersong, but the look last half a heartbeat before the lively flicker faded back to the cold, unfeeling glare that occupied Starlingflight's pale yellow eyes most of the time..

Sweetpaw bounded into view moments after her scent was found. The pretty orange and white tabby was chasing a butterfly, springing erratically at it. Her fur was clumped with moss; She obviously had been on moss-gathering duties for the elders when she had seen the butterfly.

But as she pounced, missed and landed once again, she finally saw Foxpaw. Sweetpaw, being such a new apprentice, froze to the spot, arching her back with her ears flattened and hissing, though it sounded more like the weak, raspy mew of a kit.

Sweetpaw looked between their pelts, and she giggled, "Yeah, they kinda are, aren't they?" Her pelt was a bit lighter with darker orange tabby markings. Her muzzle, belly and paws were white instead of black. When the topic came of their prey, Sweetpaw had to stop and think. Did she even remember the vasts amount of prey that Kestrelflame had told her about?

"W-well.." She began, "We eat squirrels, and..voles. Sometimes rabbit, if we can catch one...but we like birds too!" She finished, her ears perking, "Oh! Pausing for a moment to digest that. The first? Why hold it in for so long? Grief is meant to be shared, as the burden is much lighter that way. Even though her inner voice would advocate for it, holding your negative feelings inside you was a bad idea. It was always better to talk it out. Which made her think about her current predicament. Why was she trying to hide what she just did? She knew why. She didnt want others to think of her as any less for it. Everyone knew her as so happy. If word got out that she was capable of evil like this... who knew what would happen?

"Dark secrets.... yes. I wasnt really planning to say this to anyone. Do not tell others. Please." Her eyes flashed with worry. "But I.... may have done something bad. To someone, or rather something, that didnt deserve it."

"Turkey? That's a really big bird! I didn't think cats caught turkeys," Sweetpaw gasped in awe. Now they were getting somewhere. She let the she-cat confess, her eyes half-closed as the older molly listened. When she finished, she meowed quietly. "Then ask yourself this, dear Junipersong; Did you betray your Clan, or yourself?" Her eyes opened and the look in them was sharp and cold as they rested on Junipersong. Her tail flicked slowly.

What about herself? Which had Starlingflight betrayed all of those moons ago? Her Clan? Herself? Or maybe even both. There was no way Starlingflight was going to admit to anyone else, aside from Junipersong, that she had taken a mate outside of the Clan, and lost her only kit as a result of her bad choices.

Juniperfox leaped into the tree, his nose clogged with the scent of pine. Not that it was a bad scent! It was just.. pine trees were ShadowClan things, why didn't this border ShadowClan? Though, honestly, ShadowClanners were kinda gross. RiverClan cats were much preferable. "Got a lot of opinions, do you now Juniper?" he growled to himself. "Just be careful, some of your gossip might come back to bite you in the ass."

He gazed down at RiverClan territory, totally not stalking anyone(there was no one to stalk! he was serious!), just deep in.. thought. What? He sounded like some weird prophetic medicine cat. And he wasn't. Or was he?

Nah, he definitely wasn't.

Fizzlepaw padded towards Riverclan territory with a couple of flowers in his jaws. He had no clue what they were. They were yellow and orange flowers(marigolds). He just saw them as normal flowers, but they were herbs. He just picked them in his territory. The former Thunderclan apprentice crossed over the border just a tiny bit and gently placed the flowers on the ground. He waited a few moments before heading back to Windswept Plains. He bounded out of Riverclan territory and disapeared back to his home.

She paused for a long moment to consider. She definitely didnt betray her clan. The whole reason she went out on this mission was to help her clan. She went overboard with the execution from the desire to protect her clanmates. She had betrayed herself. Betrayed what she stood for. She caved in to her inner voice and let it take over, even for that one moment. That gaze chilled the young molly. As if it was staring straight into her soul, freezing her from the inside out.

"I...betrayed myself. In the most horrible way possible. It feels like there is no turning back from this, either." She said with a long, drawn-out sigh.

"Sometimes the way back, is forward," She murmured, "Letting go of the past is difficult. Letting go of your sins is even harder. The guilt and blame you put on yourself will be your greatest hindrance." Her voice had grown husky and emotional, moons of her own feelings and mistakes weighing on her as she spoke to Junipersong. "Take it from me, young one. You have nothing to fear, save disappointment of those you love, by betraying yourself. Your loyalty to self means little in the long run of Clan life. So long as you are loyal to RiverClan, and do what you do in the name of RiverClan, no cat has any right to judge you, or be angry at you for what you've done." The black and white she-cat mewed wisely. She certainly wasn't angry, just mildly concerned for Junipersong's wellbeing, as any Clanmate would be if they saw one of their Clanmate's as distressed as Juniper seemed to be..

Sometimes the way back is forward? That seemed backwards. Wouldnt it be the way forward is back? Junipersong wasn't about to question the older molly's experience. Something about it felt... wrong. "Betray myself? That seems... I dont know. My highest priority will always be Riverclan. Not the land, not the idea, but the clanmates. I serve my friends and those I hold dear above all else. But is it really worth losing myself for that? Im happy because I choose to not let my dark thoughts control me. I stay strong to keep the spirits of my clanmates high. Betraying myself and turning into something im not feels like it would hurt my clanmates in the long run."

She sat down, looking up at the night sky through the canopy of trees over her head. Getting into that line of thought was definitely a lot more philosophy than anything else. Though it was nice to bring her mind away from other, more worrying things. Just the idea of having to talk to Kestrelwing made her stomach twist into knots.

"Perhaps I misphrased that," Starlingflight sighed, "What I meant was that instead of dwelling on the actions of the past, think of what your actions in the future will be from this point on. What kind of cat do you want to be? Are you going to let one mistake drive you down a path you didn't want? Are you going to doubt yourself every time you are put into a position like the one you are in now?" The molly had risen to her paws, and Junipersong could see that Starlingflight was actually rather large. The queen remained hunched and shrunken most of the time, but standing at her full height, the muscles and strength in her broad shoulders were visible.

"You made a mistake, Junipersong. Learn from the past; Move forward, not back. If you're so afraid of losing yourself after this, how much of a grip did you really have on yourself to begin with?" The she-cat questioned, pressing now as she walked down the bank and let her paws sink into the water.

Starlingflight gazed at the other she-cat, then her eyes narrowed. Her mew was quiet when she spoke again, just barely audible over the river at her paws. "It is all your choice. Choosing what kind of warrior you want to be, who you want as your mate, who to fight in the midst of battle; All of that is your choice. Choosing to kill an enemy, while it can be difficult, is still a choice we must all make if we ever have to face it... We might feel bad for a while, but if the long term means safety for the ones you love, that is when the choice is truly worth it." She canted her head to look at Junipersong, "Does that make more sense?"

That was a much better piece of advice, now that she understood the message that was originally trying to be conveyed. She always had to choose what kind of cat she wanted to be. Every moment of every day was a conscious decision. She wasnt like this on the inside. She was shy. It made her heart race every single time she gave physical affection to her clanmates, but she did it because everyone deserves love, even if she is only doing it in a platonic way. Well at least, towards most of her clanmates she does it platonically. Her mind briefly wanders to think about Kestrelwing again before tearing herself away from that line of thought.

There was a deep wisdom to those words, though. Stop focusing on the mistake of the past. Yeah.... Yeah! Wait, choosing to kill an enemy? Oh. Oh no. "I.... the problem is that I took it too far. Not only did I not have to kill my target but... I did something terrible to them. Something unspeakable. They were so young. Even if they had to die, they didnt deserve to die in that way. Can I still be forgiven?"

"You feel remorseful. You look as much. You would never do it again, would you?" Starlingflight waded over to Junipersong, and she reached her neck out to lap away at some of the blood on Juniper's shoulder. "Tell at least one cat you trust completely. I know I am a bit of a stranger, little one, but I know what it is to regret something that's been done, and the consequences after." She mewed, pulling back and smiling crookedly, as though it took some effort. "You can be forgiven, Junipersong. Just make sure to forgive yourself too." She licked the she-cats forehead, like a queen and her kit, before turning and leaving the water, flicking each paw in turn before leaving the other she-cat on her own in the flowing river and padding down the riverbank towards camp.

He hesitated, "ok." Then he mumbled just loud enough, "hope you're not being to ambitious."

Berrysplash was walking towards the end of the RiverClan border. They were in need of a relaxing walk; the camp was way too rowdy for the shy warrior. As they were walking, enjoying the cool breeze, Berrysplash noticed some flowers on the edge of the border. Curious, they went to take a closer look.
Upon further inspection, Berrysplash realized that the yellow and orange flowers were marigolds.
“Why is there medical herbs at the edge of the border?” They wondered. “I might as well give these to Snakeheart.”

Gently, Berrysplash picked up the leaves and headed towards camp, still wondering who put the flowers at the border.

//Since Starlingflight has just finished talking to Junipersong, she's already on the border. Whether or not Bearheart saw any of it, that's up to you.

After talking to Junipersong, Starlingflight had felt a strange lightness form in her chest. It didn't linger long, but it had felt nice to try and advise one of the younger warriors. Sometimes they were rash and foolish; Other times they have their hearts in the right place, but not their rational thinking.

She had left Junipersong in the river to at least attempt to wash. Her paws had been in the direction of camp, but they veered suddenly, padding further along the border until she saw more trees than reeds. She settled down close to the border, tucking her paws under her chest and staring out into the woodland expanse beyond her Clan's border. Was she itching to fight now? Was she looking for a bit of peace and quiet again? Probably the latter, as Starlingflight's eyes closed some, and she perked her ears to listen to the sounds of songbirds.

Bearheart walked out of the camp, happy to finally have a chance to be alone. He took in the sights and went to see the river. He saw another cat and he approached cautiously. Little did he know that he's inside of riverclans border.

Up ahead, the scent of ThunderClan passed on the wind. Suspicious, Starlingflight swiftly followed the scent. When it grew stronger, she let out a low growl and brought herself into Bearheart's line of sight. She squared her shoulders and lifted her chin, "You're trespassing. Your border does not extend this far," She bared her teeth, ears flattened to her skull. "Are ThunderClan mongrels so arrogant that they can stroll over our borders freely?"

"Take a deep breath. Familiarize yourself." She instructed. Honestly! What mouse-brained loon would allow a total noob into the clan as a warrior? Bearheart did as he was told breathing deeply. he recognized the scents, one coming off the cat before him and the other from the camp. He opened his eyes and said "Thank you. I apologize for intruding on your territory but I just joined yesterday. The only reason they even let me into the clan was that I had a sick kit with me. If I cant even descreen border from border how will I be of any use? Maybe ill just be a burden to them until lookit is ok then ill leave her with them. She'll live a better life with them than with me." He said, talking to himself as he walked away.

Sweetpaw bounced excitedly through the undergrowth, heading for Smallpines. She hadn't been out with her father in what felt moons! He had been so busy lately as Sweetpaw had moved out of the nursery following her apprentice ceremony. He never quite told her why, but whispers had tipped her off about something to do with her mother, who she had never met.

She bounded along, her smaller legs barely clearing the top of the grasses with each spring. "Are we gonna hunt anything Tigerblaze?" She meowed happily to the orange, black-striped tom behind her.

TigerBlaze kept his nose to the air, sniffing slightly, his whiskers twitching in the small breeze that swooned under the brush. The taller tom was checking for the scent of other cats, but the wind was blowing towards the RiverClan side of the border, it would make them more prone to a sneak attack of sorts. It just meant he needed to be on guard more than normal. Shrugging his shoulder some, he gave a warm smile to Sweetpaw. "Of course Sweet, we'll find some fat muskrats by the river, maybe some voles."

Her excitement doubled. A muskrat?! She had seen one on the fresh kill pile once, and it had been huge! "Do you think I could catch a muskrat?" She squeaked and bounded up the river's bank and peered below. The river was deep here, but as she gazed around, she missed the nearly invisible black and white she-cat crouched near the river among the reeds downstream where the current picked up. It brought great elation to the large spotted feline to see his daughter in such a zealous state. Tiger's muzzle twitched into a grin as he gave her a nod. Though before he could speak further, his keen eye met with the white and black tabby across the river. The she-cat seemed to be eyeing something rather intently, perhaps a fish or some other prey? Well, RiverClan was on mostly decent terms with ThunderClan, and for the time being she looked to be no threat. Though Tiger would keep a considerable bit of guard up in any case. "Don't let it ebb your concentration, but there is a RiverClan cat across the way, she will pay us little mind so long as we stay within our borders, for now look close at the water but be careful. Muskrats are fast but they like to burrow near the shallow water as a small sort of den. Catching one will be easiest during that time."

"You got it Tiger- Whoa!" She didn't get to finish. The bank began to crumble, loosened by the water splashing onto it. Quite suddenly, she dropped. One moment she was there, the next she wasn't. There was a splash in the water below.

Sweetpaw struggled to resurface. The water was s-s-so cold! her small legs churned uselessly, her tiny orange head was above the water for the moment. "T-Tigerbaze! H-HELP!" She wailed, the current sweeping her away from the orange tabby.

The reaction time was too slow, his focus which had momentarily slipped to Starlight had kept him from warning Sweet of the loose muddy footing that was on the bank above the river. The first thing he heard was crumbling ground, the second a watery splash and the third the terrible cries of his daughter. He didn't cry out, he simply turned and did the first thing his paternal instincts could muster into his mind. The tom was in the chilling water near instantly, he was not the best swimmer, but that didn't matter. The tide was in his favor to catch up. The ice cold chill was making it hard to breathe and move, but he used the bit of breath he could spare to shout. "Don't panic! Keep your head above the water! Don't waste your energy thrashing about! Just keep afloat!"

"Help! Help!" Sweetpaw wailed, barely hearing anything Tigerblaze said over the rushing water. She could feel the energy sapping from her limbs, and the small apprentice could only just keep her head above the water now.

The cries for help were heard downstream. Starlingflight looked up, the fish she had been stalking scattering as the current changed suddenly from the unnatural intrusions. Spotting an orange head, then another, larger orange and black head, she sprang into action. She dove into the water a fox-length from where Sweetpaw was last seen, the apprentice submerged fully now. With strong strokes, she pushed up from the bottom of the river, almost like she were pouncing underwater, and grabbed Sweetpaw's scruff before the river flushed her past. Starlingflight broke the surface and paddled to the Riverclan shore, spitting Sweetpaw to the ground. The apprentice was hardly breathing, but she was alive. Starlingflight sprang back to the river, swimming out to redirect the tom back to shore now that the kit was safe.

Tiger felt a great level of dread, she was seemingly unable to hear him and her movements were slow and labored. He wasn't doing too excellent himself, only able to move forward with laborious strokes. And that's when it happened, like a quick flash of white he saw the cat on the riverbank dive in. He thought her mad for a moment, surely even RiverClan would have difficulty moving in this sort of frigid conditions? Though as she re-emerged with SweetPaw he felt his heart twinge with relief. Though, with that relief came a drop in his adrenaline. The water suddenly felt colder, and his limbs much stiffer. With a grunt he managed to angle himself back towards the bank, but it was all he could do to dig his claws into its side, slipping on the wet soil occasionally. He turned his head towards Starlight, baffled that she was coming back in for him. "I'm okay! I can hoist myself back up, just get back onto land!

Starlingflight snorted, and with one last nudge from her shoulder, she pushed Tigerblaze further onto the bank. "Dig your claws into the roots on the bank, not the soil." She said and waded from the river. Shaking out her fur, she padded to Sweetpaw, who was laying on her side. Her breathing had become slower. Tipping her head to listen, Starlingflight began pumping Sweetpaw's side, pushing down with a firm paw. A few pumps later, and Sweetpaw jerked up, choking out water and spewing it to the ground.

Shaking, Sweetpaw took in her surroundings. "Wh-what is...where are we?" She rasped, looking around. Panic shot through her as she remembered falling into the river; it had been so cold! And strong! "T-TIGERBLAAAAZE! TIGERBLAZE!" Sweetpaw wailed, forcing Starlingflight to flatten her ears. Was he her mentor?

"Hush little one. Your companion is coming. He made it from the river too." Starlingflight murmured, crouching next to Sweetpaw. The river had washed to strongest of the scents away, but underneath the river water, she could smell ThunderClan. Of course.

TigerBlaze was grateful for her assistance nodding courteously to her despite every muscle in his body feeling ready to seize. Taking a deep breath, he dug into the roots rather than the dirt. With a bit of effort he was climbing it with some bit of strain before pulling himself back onto land. Tiger shook the water from himself vigorously, clearing himself from a bit of a the water weight.

He turned to the sound of his daughter's voice, practically sprinting to her. His eyes were wide as they gazed frantically all over her body for signs of outward injury, she didn't seem to have any immediate cuts or bruises, but that still didn't mean the cold wouldn't affect her. They would need to get her warm soon enough. "It's alright Sweet I'm here, you don't have to worry anymore."

Though he said it, there was a slight flicker of annoyance that he hadn't been keeping a better eye on her or watching the riverbank for more weakness. It was a miracle that Starlight was in the vicinity, and with that thought in mind her turned to her, giving a deep bow. "I am in your debt. You saved my daughter and helped me from the river. Starlingflight's gaze hadn't broken from Sweetpaw, a deep, sad, but longing look in her eyes. "You should help lick her fur the wrong way. It will warm her up and bring her body heat up." She said flatly. Finally she looked at Tiger. "It's only the least I could do. She's just lucky she wasn't much smaller." Featherkit flashed behind her eyes when she closed them, there one moment...the next gone.

Tiger immediately took her advice, lapping at her fur in the wrong direction. He would have to ask how it kept her warm but he figured it had something to do with wringing the fur out. In any case all he cared for currently was the safety and well being of his daughter. He sat close to her, unaware that the show of deep affection and concern was causing any sort of emotional harm to Starlight. After a few moments he turned back to her. "Even if that is the case, you went out of your way to help. Things are complicated with the clans at the current time. It was still valiant."

Tigerblaze, finally calming from the intense situation noted her bleak disposition, she looked mournful in a way. Tiger made the decision in a split second, speaking without any preamble. "Are you well? I hope this situation did not cause you any pain. Did you need help getting back to your camp? I would be fine accepting any consequences so long as I can get SweetPaw back to our borders first."

The apprentice had calmed down, and she twisted her head around to hastily lick her own fur once she had warmed enough. She was grateful to both of them, and she knew she would need to make it up to the RiverClan warrior who had saved her. Saved them.

Sweetpaw looked up as her father spoke to the she-cat, and she blinked. "I'm so sorry if I scratched you in the river!" She squeaked, believing she had hurt her savior.

Starlingflight stiffened, then shook her head. "No." She rasped, "You would not be welcome in our camp. I'm only glad I could save your kit. Losing one to the river..." She trailed off, a fresh wave of grief nearly crippling her. Something about saving Sweetpaw had triggered her guilt in worse ways than before. Is it because I couldn't save you, Featherkit? But I saved my enemy's? Starlingflight wailed in her head.

Taking a closer look at Tigerblaze, she narrowed her eyes. "My name is Starlingflight. Tigerblaze, I take it?" She canted her head to the apprentice, "And...Sweetpaw?"

"Yes.." Sweetpaw mewed softly, lowering her gaze when Starlingflight looked skeptical. Then the she-cat turned to Tigerblaze, eyes narrowed.

He was just... tired. Sluggish. All the time now. And he didn’t know why! He felt like... like a burden to the Clan he held so dear in his heart. It made the siamese upset. Why was he like this?

As he wandered around the territory alone, lost deep in self-loathing, spiraling thoughts, he only barely registered the sharp scent of pine trees. And it wasn’t until the scent of ThunderClan washed over him that his head cleared and he took a good look around. Bright blue eyes widened with fear.

Oh, oh stars. He had wandered right into ThunderClan territory. With a terrified squeak, he turned and leapt back over the scent line! Phew, okay. Okay. This was fine. This was okay! No one saw it. And besides, it was only a few tail-lengths. Yeah. No. It was okay.

Heronflight couldn't wait any longer for her patrol,so she did the right thing and went out on her own. The molly looked around to find any fresh pawprints of any coyotes, but all see saw was stale ones. It looked like coyotes were really gone. Without a sense of smell she wasn't exactly sure.

The molly was going to head back when she spotted something with her lower eye. It looked kind of weird, so she kept her distance. Heromflight looked at his kind of close. Was it a trap of so.e sort? She didn't know, so she headed back to tell kesterlwing.

The dilute tom paced the border, bored and looking for prey. And perhaps a fight. He scented a squirrel and chased after the scent. He found it, chased it, and then it went across the border. He followed and quickly killed it, lingering on the border for a moment. He smirked and went back to RiverClan's side. Then he scented a ThunderClan cat, probably watching him from somewhere. He growled and whipped atoind, searching for whoever dared watch him while he hunted.

Yikes! The siamese jumped backward as a figure appeared seemingly out of nowhere. His pale blue eyes were wide and frightened as his brain scrambled to figure out what was happening. It didn't take long for him to realize that this scent belonged to a cat, but that was all he had time to figure out before they started talking.

Oh! They--? They seemed about as nervous as he was! Whew, okay. This didn't seem like a cat ready to kick his ass. This just seemed like a cat trying to be tough! Okay! He could be tough too. Maybe. First, he had to stop cowering! With a quick shake of his head, he brushed out his fur a little but to try to make himself look bigger. Oh, and he narrowed his eyes. that was intimidating, right?

Before he could think of how to respond, the cat started to speak again. Ohhh, oh no. "I--" But, again, before he could get a word in, the cat sighed and talked again. Oh! Oh. He quickly dropped his "intimidating" facade (and, honestly, it wasn't that intimidating. He had no idea what he was doing).

"Uh! I'm Beansprout, I'm from RIverClan, aaand... I'm sorry! I'm so so so sorry and I didn't see -- er, uh, smell the border and I crossed it aaand I'm an idiot and I'm so sorry!" He found himself shaking with nerves and anxiety, hoping this cat didn't decide to turn him in to Buckstar. He dipped his head down low.

And I can go anywhere I want, just not home
And you can aim for my heart, go for blood
But you would still miss me in your bones
And I still talk to you(when I'm screaming at the sky)

Wow. Okay, okay, yeah he was pretty scared now. He was totally in trouble, they were gonna report him to Soot--whoever led RiverClan nowadays, he was in b i g trouble. Okay. Okay, time for excuses. Why was he thinking okay over and over? Why? Why, because he was an idiot. Obviously. Juniperfox hissed in frustration and slammed his paw down angrily. He should have never gone out of camp. Today.. sucked. HE SHOULD NEVER GO OUT OF CAMP. Yes! The solution to ever single one of his frickin' problems!

The narrow of the eyes.. that was what REALLY put his fur on end. That narrow. He shivered suddenly, aware of his fur, now entirely bushed up, tingling with static. The cat arched his back and tried to calm down, taking deep breaths. It was just a panic attack, he could get out of it. Anxiety, anxiety, the bane of his existence!

He'd interrupted them. Ugh, he felt so awful. Juniper clenched his jaw and moved forward, coming to a standstill right in front of the cat, so close their fur almost brushed. It was awkward, but, well, he couldn't turn back now! The deed was done.

"Oh!! I'm Juniperfox of--" He coughed and then laughed nervously. "Of Thunder--no, I'm a--of ThunderClan." He shrugged apologetically. "Forgive my nervous appearance." Huh, all of a sudden he was Mr. Smooth? What? The? Heck? "It's okay!! I mess up too.. don't worry, I won't tell!! As long as you don't tell on me." During that last sentence, he tried to wink playfully, which resulted in a lot of blinking.

So. Turned out he couldn't wink, either. Add that to the long list of things he couldn't do.

Oh!! Oh dear. Was he really that intimidating? Before he had dropped his "big tough and scary" act, the cat... actually looked scared! He wasn't sure if that was a confidence boost or if it made him all the more nervous. Both?? Maybe? "Ah, I--! I promise I'm not scary -- I mean, I guess I can be?? But I feel bad and I don't wanna hurt you and oh stars I'm kind of nervous? If you couldn't tell." He was an idiot! Of course this cat could tell! He was a nervous wreck!

He took a moment to breathe, trying to calm his nerves and still his shaking legs as the other cat introduced themself. Himself? As the ThunderClanner spoke his name -- Juniperfox, how pretty! -- He felt himself calm down. This was okay. It was fine. He was probably overreacting, honestly. He offered a small smile to return the other cat's. However, he was a little taken aback at the... wink? Blinks?

Beansprout couldn't help but chuckle a little bit, this friendly conversation easing his nerves even more. "I won't, don't worry. It's not like I could just walk up to Buckstar and just talk to him anyway! I'm not crazy!" He imagined it in his mind, almost completely unaware of his close proximity to the other cat. Almost.

[ Peril Kunaiskrill - just a heads up - RiverClan's new leader isn't known by the other Clans! Not until after the next Gathering ^^]

[ closed - private post for a plot! ]

With all the reports now in and assessed, Kestrelwing had decided against enlisting a bunch of warriors for what seemed like a rather simply task. There were other things they could be doing to progress RiverClan - as long as he was careful, this could be handled by himself.

The border seemed almost eerie as he approached it, jaws parted to taste the surrounding air. Somewhere around here were the traps that Heronflight had spotted, and with the coyotes gone and not setting them off Kestrelwing knew they were a danger waiting to happen. One wrong step, one distracted moment, and any one of his Clanmates could lose a paw, a leg, or even worse. And this far from camp, he wasn't sure if Snakeheart would be able to make it in time to prevent serious damage.

After confirming there were no other predators around Kestrelwing began to root around in the leaves, careful to not spring any of the traps, but just enough to uncover them. The first one was easy to spot, with one of the spikes sticking up. It wasn't as big as some of the ones he knew to be - perhaps smaller to catch a fox or something of similar size. He grabbed a stick from nearby and gently placed it down into the mouth of the trap, jumping a bit as it's teeth snapped shut.

Okay, so one down and... he didn't even know how many to go. This would take a bit...

- - -

"That should be all of them..." Kestrelwing grumbled as he spat the stick out. Good, no more death grips waiting to spring onto an unsuspecting RiverClan patrol. Just as he turned to head home though, a gleam caught his gaze. It was closer to the border; another small trap, still spread open and waiting.

He should just close it. He should just close it with a branch and walk away. But more and more that thought began to dissolve as memories of the ravaging pack of coyotes almost killing him and taking out his Clanmates replaced the feeling...

A small snarl as he crept forward, Kestrelwing slowly began to work with moving it off RiverClan territory. His concious was partly screaming at him to stop - his mothers' voice, maybe? - but it fell on deaf ears as eventually, the gray tabby crossed the border with it. It was on ThunderClan's side now, and the fact that his scent was there would be hidden by the fact that it was near the border.

The sadistic grin started small, then grew wider as he stepped back to let the shadows envelope him. ThunderClan would pay for the coyotes one way or another, even if Kestrelwing had to take justice into his own paws.

A scoff later and he was turning back to camp, slipping silently away.

Tornclaw makes his way to the RiverClan border. He was a little savvy. He walked around the border, leaving many scent markers. He was hungry. He needed to catch something for his Clan. He couldn't find anything. He decided it was time to act desperately. He went across the RiverClan border, and cought a fish and brought it back to ThunderClan Territory. "no one has to know." he thought to himself. he buried the rest of the fish, rolled in the dirt, and darted back to ThunderClan camp.

Snakeheart honestly hadnt expected Kestrelwing- sorry star to sleep against that big stupid rock but he supposed he couldnt fault a cat for wanting to see if everything was really a lie for himself. Plus maybe he just wanted to take a nap while he could. Whatever Snakeheart had found things to do himself anyway padding out from the starcave and finding some deathberries on a nearby bush. Even between carful harvesting and wrapping the herbs the medicine cat still managed to make it back in time to see the older tom wake looking like he'd been run over by a monster. Still there was things to do and they needed to get back so even as he quipped "I warned you sleeping here was a mess something about the floor makes certain your dreams are unsteady. Still congratulations on 'officially' becoming a leader, straighten your fur and lets head back theres lots of work to do." he was ushering Kestrelstar out of the damned cave and home.

So now they were here, padding along the border on the fastest route home through those horrid smallpines. Still despite the location the walk was relatively light hearted (for them at least) and Snakeheart was hopefull as he suggested "Before we head straight back should we do a small patrol to try and find the golden idiot? He's probably holed up somewhere in a bush with Fawnsqueak but its not a good look for him to be missing all of this. He should at least be present for your first big meeting I think, plus I know he's basically unkillable but it isnt.... safe.... here......."
He really should have seen it coming if he was honest though. Snakeheart wasnt allowed to be happy, to have hope. So halfway through his suggestion his face became pale and serious words trailing off as he scented the air.

"Kestrelstar do you smell blood?"
It probably wasnt Lionstorm, I mean how un believable would it be to find evidence of him half way through talking about the tom besides there was no reason for the warrior to be here and hurt, but whatever had made the sharp tang hang in the air wasnt good. And maybe it was stupid but..... Well Snakehearts instancts were screaming that something was horribly wrong.

The trek back to camp seemed much longer than the journey to the Starcave, and it showed in the way Kestrelstar drew in a breath here and there. All the tom wanted to do was sleep, but his senses were on high alert passing through Smallpines. At least one of his most trusted cats was next to him - stars, if someone had told him he'd feel a sense of kinship to another cat aside from the forced one with Eelsting, he would've clawed them over the head. But here Snakeheart was, matching fangs and all.

Kestrelstar scoffed. "I'm sure him and Fawnsqueak have probably slunk off to soak up each other's scent now that the leader duties have passed to me," the gray tabby chuckled, swishing his tail as the duo continued on their way. A quite hum accompanied the night, the moon hanging low in the sky - not quite full. There was still time before the next Gathering, thankfully.

The next words that Snakeheart spoke fell on deaf ears. Fear crept up into his paws and pooled in his gaze. Taking a breath, Kestrelstar realized the medicine cat was right. Blood. And a lot of it.

One moment he was frozen; the next, dashing through the territory with caution thrown to the wind. No, nonono. No. Who was it? His mind screamed at him, willing his legs to move faster, for his paws to be quicker...

The scene in front of him felt like an entire Clans worth of claws raking through him. Fawnsqueak. Lionstorm. All that blood.

Words didn't come to him as panic rose, mingling with anger and grief and... and... stars, damn it! Kestrelstar was vibrating with anger and sorrow, stumbling forward only to sink down in front of his fallen Clanmates. Who did this? What had happened? He felt as though he was choking on shadows as he grabbed Lionstorm's scruff to drag him out of the stream.

Nonononono.

Kestrelstar breaking off into a sprint unfroze Snakeheart from his wide eyed terror and the medicine cat tore after the older warrior tail streaming in the wind. His long skinny legs were perfect for swimming, and as it became apparent running, and the younger tom rapidly closed the gap to run side by side despite the early start the dark tabby had. Were the coyotes back?! Stars he thought those mutts were finally driven away for good! Or.... The medicine cats blood ran cold as new theories started breath catching even as he ran. What if thunderclan had decided to raid, they were in the smallpines and those cowards had been loud at the gathering. Dogs or fools or even some new unknown threat Snakeheart didnt know and that was more then half of the terror.

The young tom in contrast to Kestrelstar didnt even see Lionstorms body at first, eyes focusing on the limp and small Fawnsqueak as he missed the leaders body completely. Maybe it was just his bond brother blocking the view or perhaps the medicine cats mind just refused to process the sight but he was at the ex medicine cats side in a flash paws flying to check over the other tom.

There was no obvious damage at first and though Fawnsqueaks body was cold and limp for a time his spirit was light as he hoped against all hope that the other toms life could be saved. Only to find the gash the horrible wound and feel first hand how no heart beat below the warriors pelt. Snakehearts spirit and heart dropped like a stone as reality sunk in, Fawnsqueak was gone. A horrified whine left his mouth as the medicine cat turned the brown warrior over to see the empty eyes of the dead, he didnt even like the ex medicine cat but this tragedy was still horrible.

"He- hes gone. Fawnsqueaks dead the blow... It must've killed him. Oh stars what are we going to tell Lionstorm. He just lost Firehawk he wont be able to take it.... Kestrelstar seriously, I- I dont know how were going to be able to keep him stable with everything he-" The medicine cats voice was tight and horse as he spoke but it was choked out completely when he saw the body Kestrelstar was dealing with.

Lionstorm.....

He.....

Snakeheart felt frozen and ice cold mind not even able to process anything at all as he stood and just fell to pieces inside, body not able to keep up with his raging mind.

Shock ran rampant through Kestrelstar, knowing no bounds as it turned every inch of his veins to cold, unforgivng ice. Thorns circled around his heart, piercing from any open angle they could. His eyes were dry now despite the wave of tears that were building... building... like the tension churning in his stomach. Anxiety. Fear. So much blood.... Stomach was tight, air - not coming. Heart beat fast fast, slow... fastfastfast. Was he even breathing at this point? In. out. In. Out.

Barely did Kestrelstar register Snakeheart there, next to him - when had he arrived? Where were they? Lionstorm was in front of him, and... and... Fawnsqueak. "No no no no," Kestrelstar murmured, a quiver passing through him as he attempted to swallow the desert growing in his throat. This was not real... no. No it couldn't be. Not real. Not real, this was a dream he was - Starcave, this was, he was still asleep.

A splash of red coated it all now, and as the gray tabby fought to swim back to the surface of conciousness he felt anger. Burning rage like an inferno, brazening a path forward for him to follow. Who did... what had... the scent. ThunderClan. ThunderClan.

Tears that had been building now fell freely as Kestrelstar sprung forward, paws right on the border. "You cowards! I will shred you! Do you hear me? Mark my words, Buckstar, you're Clan will burn to ashes when I am done with them."

Pain. An endless abyss of pain... Darkness swirling like twisted stars, attempting to coo him into submission. He needed revenge. He craved it like air, like the will to live.

Spinning around on his paws, there was a new fire in his yellow gaze. It was darker, filled with malice and vengeance. Kestrelstar didn't even feel connected to the ground anymore, to reality, to what was happening. It was all ThunderClan, death, Lionstorm, Fawnsqueak... Lionstorm.

"Snakeheart. Lionstorm, he- Fawnsqueak. They were just - it was - absent. Safe. They were... now... gone." What was he even saying? His voice sounded foreign to him, as if someone else was speaking.

They had to get back to camp. To RiverClan. What if ThunderClan had breached the walls? What if they killed more? Drew more blood. No, no more RiverClan cats would be harmed under his watch. No more. With a growl, the gray tabby hurried back over to Lionstorm, his anger overtaking his grief's need to sink to the ground and let the elements do away with all of his nine lives.

Or did it? As his paws reached the deceased golden tabby, Kestrelstar faltered. His stumble caused him to trip a bit, but the gray tabby didn't fall. Instead fixed his yellow gaze on his fallen Clanmates. With Lionstorm gone, how... how was he going to lead?

Maybe it had been a bad idea to think about exploring without Kestrelstar.

Maybe it had been a bad idea to sneak out of camp in the dead of night, with all of the dark shadows and scary noises that she couldn't exactly pinpoint and yet she knew they belonged to... something. Something not very nice. Was that a growl off to her left? She paused, heart hammering in her chest, her ears swiveling in different directions as she stared into the dark.

Then- there! Eyeshine! Yellow and narrowing and definitely not at all nice. A low, guttural snarl rolled over her from the bushes, and then suddenly sharp yellowed fangs were flashing in front of her.

Before she could move or even blink, teeth as sharp as knifes sank into her face, clamping down above and below her eye. With a howl of agony she ripped herself away, leaving behind part of her face in the coyotes savage jaws. As she turned to run, those fangs tore into her haunches and dragged her backwards. Her paws slipped on loose leaf litter as she scrabbled desperately for a hold on the ground before she dug her claws into the dirt and pulled herself free with a gasp. StarClan, her face burned, the bites on her haunches stung like all hell, that beast was still snarling behind her as she did her best to run- maybe if she could get over the border she could get away-

With a yelp she tripped over her own paws and tumbled forward-

SNAP.

Iron jaws snapped shut around her neck. She was gone in no more than a second.

The coyote slowed to a stop and leaned down to sniff at the yellow she-cat's lifeless body. Now disinterested, it snorted and turned away into the shadows.

Her fur swishing softly in the breeze, Splashleap trotted at the head of the group towards the Thunderclan border. Normally she was relaxed on border patrols, renewing the scent marks with no particular interest in what was going on on the other side. But now, her every sense was on alert, ears twitching back and forth to gather a full range of sounds, nose twitching as she inhaled bits of dust with her vigorous sniffing, eyes darting left and right and back again. Tasting the air as she neared the border, she stiffened.

The Thunderclan scent was strong, it was the border after all, but something was off. Not just the scent of blood disturbed the piney needles, although it did tang sharply in the air. The Thunderclan scent was too strong. They weren't even directly at the border, but it smelled almost as if they were. Dipping her head to the ground, Splashleap scented it quickly. There was a trace of Thunderclan scent. On THEIR side of the border. And it was fresh. Not stale, as any cat that had pursued Lionstorm and Fawnsqueak onto Riverclan territory would be, but fresh. Almost as if.......the cat was still here.

Turning to the other warriors, keeping her voice a low hiss, she ordered softly Spread out and look around. I think there's a Thunderclan cat on our territory. Peering about herself, Splashleap spotted a few things further indicating their continued presence. Pawprints, disturbed needles, a few tufts of fur caught on thorns. Some cat was definitely here, and it was about to be a problem.

Rainstorm flattened her ears. Honestly, those cats had caused enough trouble. They were barely escaping war, and they were possible murderers of High Ranks in RiverClan. She unsheathed her claws, circling around to get a better look. Look at that forest dweller, all bliss and no remorse. Fury pulsed through her.

Maybe they did kill Lionstorm. ThunderClan was obviously all about doing stupid things against the warrior code.

RIVERCLAN! he didn't expect this, he just wanted a dip in the cattail pond eventually. (Tornclaw has no sense of borders) oh no oh no oh no. He slowly slinked away from the bush he was in. following after splashleap, rainstorm, and bumblestep, sprigclouds nose scrunched up upon arriving at the border. it smelled very, uh, off. he looked over to the deputy who was sniffing around, fur bristling at the order. "alright, splashleap." the tom nodded, turning away from the group and glancing around the area.

(he was hoping that there wasn't a thunderclan cat on the territory-- but he had a feeling there was one. they were barely avoiding war! why was some cat trespassing?)

padding over to the greenery, he craned his neck to see under the bushes. nothing. or, that's what he thought. until he heard something rustle in a bush not too far away. he whipped around to stare at the bush, unmoving for a moment. "guys.." he whispered, padding over to the shrub.

okay, one...two...three, look! sprigclouds jaw dropped-- nobody was in the bush! sniffing around, he cringed at the strong scent of fox dung. okay, well, obviously the cat tried to cover their scent, and was nearby. "they're close by." he said, looking over to the rest of the patrol.

"Forget it. They'll find me." Tornclaw thinks to himself. He might as well reveal himself. He leaps at Rainstorm. If he hits (which he probably will, understanding the circumstances that The RC cats are looking for him but if he leaps out of the bushes he will have the surprise) then he will bite the hind leg of Rainstorm and then claw their underbelly. -Skyfall- finn. gs29513 Rockfall

Bumblestep trotted behind his deputy, trying to enjoy the little peace that was left in Riverclan. The sun was warm on his fur, brightening his spirits. Perhaps when we are done with the patrol I can take Drizzlepaw out for some training.

At Splashleap's hissed command he dropped into a hunter's crouch, darting away from the others and opening his mouth. The foreign scent was strong, so strong he was surprised it took him this long to notice it. She's right! The Thunderclan scent is so strong the intruder must be close! Keeping his mouth open and body low, he slunk around the border. Why couldn't Thunderclan just stay away? Haven't they done enough?

That's when an unknown tom leapt out from the nearby bush, quick as a flash. So fast, that Bumblestep couldn't call out a warning to Rainstorm before he was being ambushed. "Get off of her!" He yowled, racing towards the attacker with the intention of headbutting him off of his clanmate.

If he succeeds, he plans to pin the RiverClan warrior down and bite the scruff of his neck (it wouldn't be lethal, the scruff is like the back of the neck, as he would have Bumblestep pinned down front. Of course, that is if Tornclaw aimed correctly)

Splashleap had wandered a bit away from the others, unwisely, during her searching, and wheeled around as the rustling of leaves, yowling of cats, and a thud of bodies colliding alerted her to the battle. And the scent of fox dung, which for some reason the intruder seemed to be covered in. Whirling about, she dashed back towards the scene, watching the Thunderclan cat leap at Rainstorm, before being intercepted by Bumblestep. Looking around wildly for a moment she was almost expecting more Thunderclan cats to appear, but this one seemed to be operating alone. At least, for now. There might be more somewhere. She had almost reached the fight when the tom leapt at Bumblestep, and opening her maw wide Splashleap tried to grab one of his paws. It might be a way to get him off Bumblestep if her clanmate didn't dodge anyway.

Rainstorn was watching both the ThunderClan cat and Splashleap. Then the trespasser was gone. She opened her mouth to whisper something to the rest of the patrol when a heavy weight landed on her, and claws ripped at the underside of her belly. She let out a furious hiss, pushing up and ready to twist around and claw the freaking cat, when Bumblestep rammed into the ThunderClan cat, knocking him off of her.

She would wait to gasp a thank you, right now, the attacker was attacking Splashleap. Launching herself forward, she unsheathed her claws. If she hit her target, he would be metfurious blur of scrapes and bites.

He had gone for Rainstorm first, which made her mad. Very mad. She didn't like being underestimated. Go away! She spat, rearing up to attack again. Or lose your ears. Both are fine with me.

sprigcloud heard yowling and-- oh stars. he simply watched as the thunderclanner attacked rainstorm, being knocked off by bumblestep, then splashleap rushing over. so it seemed this cat wouldn't just leave the territory, unfortunately.

he hesitated for a few moments, watching the fight continue. alright, this was four cats against one, they could win! and the thunderclanner would leave...er..uh, or die. he didn't seem like the type to give up in a fight considering how he was trying to attack everyone. (thank stars that sprigcloud wasn't the thunderclanners first victim.)

after a short while, the tom bolted forward in the direction of the thunderclan cat. "Leave our territory!" he was hoping to barrel into the thunderclanners side with his head, as an attempt to knock him down or knock the wind out of him.

It didn't look good for the Thunderclan trespasser, whoever they were. Everyone had made it to the scene, and was swinging claws at him. It seemed he was targeting her, which she supposed made sense but was also quite annoying. Wincing as the tom tugged on her ear, Splashleap swung her claws viciously towards his belly. It was the closest thing to her, and she wanted to get this fight over with. Prove she could do a good job as deputy, prove she could beat this intruder off. If she wasn't able to deal with this one cat, how big of a disappointment would that make her? A large one, that was certain. And she had no intention of being a disappointment.

What was going on!? One moment he was trying to help out Rainstorm by barreling into the intruder, and the next he was flat on the ground. A heavy weight sat on his back, pinning him down. He let out a yowl of surprise as sharp fangs dug into his scruff. He was a quick one!

Luckily, his deputy came to his rescue and tore the tom off his back. He felt a small trickle of blood leaking from the bite, but that could be dealt with later. Right now, he needed to find a way to save Splashleap's ear before it got torn off. Attempting to dodge her furious slashes at the attacker, Bumblestep tried to quickly assess the situation.

This tom was clearly alone, if he wasn't his partners would have shown up by now. That might be why he is attempting to nick each and every one of us. Clearly he didn't think this one through... Rearing up on his back paws, the warrior attempted to throw himself on Tornclaw and squish him, immobilizing him. Might as well put his big size to use?

She yelped as another jerk on her ear, fiercer than the others, sent a stab of pain through her head. Splashleap swiped blindly after the Thunderclan cat. Her ear was throbbing, almost her whole HEAD was throbbing, and she shook it in an attempt to fling some of the blood that had begun to drip in her eyes away. It only succeeded in splattering it all over the rest of her, making her look wild, almost insane. Eyes wide, ear torn, ragged at the edges and covered in blood, face bloody, claws bloody, everything bloody. Sucking in a breath she turned, breaking through her clanmates in pursuit of the Thunderclanner.

He was running, fleeing, a trail of blood behind him and a trail of his scent. Get out! You trespassing scum, Kestrelstar will hear about this! she yowled, her own blood mixing with that of the toms as her ear continued to drip. Only once he was across the border did she stop, her stride shortening and then coming to a complete stop just short of the scent line. She wasn't fool enough to chase him into his own territory. Let the scent of Thunderclan trespassing remain as a clear reminder of what they were quite clearly willing to do. Habitually doing even.

Turning back to her clanmates, taking a deep breath before speaking, Splashleap mewed Let's get this border marked and get back. Clearly the squirrels need a reminder of where it is. That one had gotten more than he had bargained for, but who knew how many more were looking to stir up trouble? Padding to the border herself, she set a mark before moving a few foxlengths along the border, setting another. Her ear was still stinging, but they needed to get the intended purpose of a patrol done as well. And that was marking the border.

Rainstorm nodded, her belly stung from where claws had pierced it. Long, red clawmarks striped her underside, but the bleeding was slowing. She was more worried about Spashleaps's ear. And Bumblestep, was he hurt? The trespasser was running, the mouse-heart.

Her white flecked gray fur bristling, the small she-cat turned to face Splashleap
You okay? How's your ear? Not well, she assumed. A freaking cat had just tried to rip it off, it would be incredibly sore at the very least.

Other than the belly wounds, she was fine, though the Thunderclanner didn't fail to piss her off.

sorry for the late reply ;0; //

what was it with the thunderclanner being so set on attacking splashleaps ear? jeez. sprigcloud couldn't help but cringe at all of the blood all over the deputy, warrior, and trespasser. he let out a sigh watching the trespasser limp back to thunderclanner territory, waving his paw to shoo the thunderclanner away faster. (leave, squirrel! leave!) hopefully this interaction wouldn't make anyone want to wage war on thunderclan even more.

his attention was back on splashleap at her orders, nodding and flashing a smile that would hopefully (probably not) lift the mood of the patrol. "alrightyy!" he hummed, padding a few fox lengths down the border, marking it, then doing it again once more.

Petuniaflame held her tail high as she walked towards the border with her brother Blizzardsky and clanmate Looncry. Kestrelstar had gathered them together to double check the ThunderClan border due to the high tension and she was lucky enough to get put in charge again. She actually really enjoyed leading patrols, it was a chance to see what it was like leading things. Though she had partly hope to be alone with her brother just to kinda catch up but getting to know Looncry was a fun chance!
The ginger and off white molly trotted along, her rat bites healed enough that they no longer hurt her. "Its a really pretty day, huh?" Petuniaflame asked glancing over at the other warriors. "Its a nice to time be out and about with Clanmates, though we do have to be alert still, which I know you guys know. But that doesn't mean we can't talk, right?" She asked glancing up at Blizzardsky before switching her amber eyes over to Looncry. "Patrols can be super fun no matter the situation!" Petuniaflame added, giving them both an encouraging smile. Petuniaflame wasn't quiet sure what to talk about but she didn't want to just be quiet and stiff, that just made patrols a drag... Besides on a bright sunny day like today it was just nice to be out and about chatting with cats. Maybe after this she could go pick some flowers as a gift to Heronflight and Blizzardsky? They hadn't talked about it yet but she noticed that Heronflight moved into the nursey, which was really exciting. A bright smile formed on her face at the thought of what that meant, but she didn't voice her thoughts. She was an aunt to be now!

There was a small group of Senior Warriors in ThunderClan, and Whitewolf was glad they all seemed to get along with one another. She hoped that would last and that the younger generations could learn from their cohesion.

Whitewolf didn’t exactly believe that every cat in the forest should hold paws and sing Kum Ba Yah, but she did think a certain level of peace was necessary. All cats were gristle, blood, and bone beneath their skin and pelts. Clans only mattered as much as everyone thought they did at the end of the day.

But there was a fatal flaw with that logic, and that was that ThunderClan happened to be very important to her.

In fact, it was everything she had. And almost everything she wanted.

”Albatrossflare,” Whitewolf said in a warmer voice than the one she normally used with fellow Warriors. “I’ve put my trust in you, so I expect great things in turn. I don’t believe at all you’re the kind of cat that would step out of line.” She fixed her gaze on the border.

Albatrossflare walked alongside Whitewolf (if just a step behind) as the pair made for the RiverClan border. Truthfully he'd been looking forward to this - it was an opportunity to run into another patrol and have the chance to figure out what RiverClan was up to. It surely couldn't be anything good. In light of their recent actions and the way they'd handled those, he didn't expect a peaceful encounter.

He glanced in her direction with a soft hum as she began to speak, and his tail began to sway slowly behind him. So she expected things from him. That was almost funny. Just because she expected it, didn't mean she would receive it. But he supposed it would be her own fault when she was disappointed. He'd learned from a young age not to expect things from others, especially great things. Others would do well to learn the same.

Perhaps today might yield a teaching moment.

She brought up RiverClan and he visibly tensed, his shoulders straightening, his ears swiveling back, and his expression hardening. "You are free to return home if you wish," he responded gruffly. "but I do not make promises that I am not certain I will be able to keep."

And then he paused, nostrils flaring. RiverClan scent, fresh above the stale border markers, and... voices? "Someone is heading our way," he murmured to Whitewolf.

Frankly, Whitewolf appreciated Albatrossflare’s honesty as always. Her least favorite cats, after all, were liars. But she wouldn’t shrug his statement off as if it didn’t scare her a little.
”I will not be responsible for injuries—or, worse—deaths of my clanmates or members of Riverclan,” she said matter-of-factly. She didn’t usually speak to her fellow Senior Warriors this way, for some of them had been around for as long as she and knew better. It was that she found Albatrossflare’s candor disturbing.
It was almost like, just once, she wished someone had lied to her.
That apprehension quickly manifested itself into a heavy dread as she lifted her nose to the sky, smelling pungent RiverClan. “That’s not just someone. That’s two to five cats, probably.” Whitewolf’s mind was instantly filled with questions. Did RiverClan know they’d be there?
No. Surely this was all another misunderstanding.
”Come on, Albatrossflare,” Whitewolf said with her feet just beside the border. ”Let’s mark this and go home.”

The molly stopped, eyes going wide as her ears went back. She racked her brain as she attempted to recall her training - after all she was a seasoned warrior for stars sake! She gave a shake of her head and continued onward, though now cautious.

”You!” she exclaimed, pointing a paw towards Feral. He wasn’t part of any Clan, and his scent gave him away. Curiously Olivenose trotted up. ”I’m sorry but you can’t be here. This is RiverClan and ThunderClan territory! I’m gonna have to ask you to leave, okay?” she told him with a smile, hoping that he understood. She didn’t want to get into a fight! Perhaps she could just get him to leave with talking. Yeah, that had to work!

"Hi!, I will gladly exit, just hungry, so may I please hang out here until prey comes along so I can catch 'em?" "I totally understand why. thank you for not gutting me and actually trying to talk before going berserk." "I feel like peace is better than war, but will fight if I have to." "How about you?" he finished.

Whew! It looked like a fight wouldn’t be necessary, and Olivenose let out a breath she hadn’t known she’d been holding. The cat seemed nice enough - but unfortunately they did have to leave. Too bad! They could’ve been a new friend. ”Unfortunately I can’t let you take any prey. We need it for our Clan! And our queens, and cute little kits!” she replied with a friendly grin, giving a swish of her tail. Despite the anxiety that bubbled in her stomach, she thought she was doing pretty good!

But it began to rise a bit as the loner tried to make conversation. Shuffling her paws, nervous, Olivenose glanced around a bit before looking back at Feral. ”I’d love to stay and chat, but you really can’t be here. If any of my other Clanmates see you, they might rip your tail off,” she told him, whispering the last part.

”I know there’s plenty of mice scurrying around by Twolegplace with all the tall structures! Maybe try there?” Oh boy, she hoped she’d be able to get him to leave!

The anxiety that had started to rise seemed to level off and Olivenose smiled a bit more. ”Sure!” she said, starting to bounce happy away from the border and towards the edge of the outskirts of RiverClan territory. It was a pretty easy path marked by the flowing river, so she fluffy white warrior made sure Feral was following her as they walked along it.

Not too long after they reached the end, with the sound of the Thunderpath in the distance. Subtle roaring of monsters could be heard flying down it and Olivenose gave a shiver. ”Just follow the river until you reach the Thunderpath, and across it should be that place I told you about!” she told him, waving her tail as a good bye. ”Travel safe!”

Now the nerves were really kicking in. Was this a trap? Olivenose gave a bit of a cough to hide her anxiety and chuckled nervously, ears going back a bit. ”I can’t leave RiverClan territory, sorry,” she informed him before her eyes brightened up a bit. ”But I’m sure there are lots of nice cats you’ll meet along the way!”

Time was ticking, and she had to get this cat off the territory before Kestrelstar or Snakeheart came along - or even Goosefury or Racconcall - they would certainly try to snatch and ear, or maybe an eye. ”Really though, you do have to leave. Please. I don’t want my Clanmates to attack you,” Olivenose told him, knowing she would have to get back before her absence was noticed. ”You’ll be fine, I’m certain of it! But you do have to leave.”

She had to get back!

"She isnt taking my punishment" he resolved. He then did the dumbest thing he might have ever done and went back in.

Stupid rogues. Did they think RiverClan territory was free reign? Having overhead a rather distraught Olivenose as she arrived back at camp, Kestrelstar put two and two together and figured it must be the same rogue as before. He headed out with narrowed eyes to the border, where the incident had supposedly happened. Olivenose was too nice, too friendly of a warrior - something he'd have to fix - and the leader needed to see for himself that this tom had actually left.

It was rather easy to pick up the scent, it covered every part of the territory the closer the leader drew to the border. "I thought I told you to leave?" he snapped, yellow eyes pinpointing the rogue as his fur began to bristle, claws sliding out as he prepared himself to chase this cat off of the territory. He knew that the rogue, whoever he was, would probably be caught off guard. Olivenose was nice. Friendly. Kestrelstar... not so much. Yellow eyes locked onto the tom as he began to advance. "I'll give you one warning. Leave RiverClan territory. Now."

Did this cat think Olivenose would get in trouble for doing her job? Well, half job - the molly definitely needed to toughen up when it came to handling outsiders. "What goes on in my Clan with my warriors is none of your concern. Olivenose did her job as far as I'm concerned, however her warnings appear to have fallen on deaf ears." Kestrelstar gave a lash of his tail, advancing once more.

"I already gave you a warning. If you do not leave now, I have no qualms in making you leave." Granted, the leader had already promised himself to follow Feral this time, making sure he really did leave.

Petuniaflame was a bit disappointed with how Looncry reacted. He seemed more bored and over the whole thing. Yet, he did answer her, so she was getting somewhere! "Mhmm!" She hummed in agreement to his agreement. It was a wonderful day! However, at his question she paused, pondering an answer as they walked. Would they try something? Surely not. "No, I don't think they will. They can't all be bad, right? I mean they have done a lot of wrongful actions, like killing Mister Lionstorm and Mister Fawnsqueak... but I don't think they'd start a fight over us checking our borders. Besides, there's three of us so surely some cat, if they would even think of it, would try something at all." Petuniaflame explained, the emotions in her answer fluctuating from uncertainty, sorrow and optimism. She really didn't want to think all of ThunderClan was in on starting up trouble and trying to hurt RiverClan. They were another Clan with cats just like their Clan, well they had more bad cats, but it was surely still just another Clan.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Blizzardsky's words, which were a refreshing sound. "Oh!" She chirped, noticing he had the same idea as her. "Yes! We really should! How about, after we report to Kestrelstar we go over to Sleepy Thicket and collect some flowers for flower crowns? I know clover grows really well over there and I got these really pretty blue flowers there too!" Petuniaflame exclaimed, getting a little too excited over the idea of going out flower picking with someone again. Her excitement subsided at her brother's claim that they were the best warriors in RiverClan, her ears feeling hot at the thought of earning that title. "Goodness no, Blizzy. I think I'm more average warrior, I really don't like to rank myself though heh..." She meowed, her voice lowering as she went on. Her amber eyes flickered over to Looncry, feeling a bit bad that he was left out, but seeing his smile she didn't feel so bad. "I wouldn't argue that you are one of RiverClan's best warrior's though Blizzy. You're a really good warrior." Petuniaflame went on, giving her attention back to the white tom. She was fairly sure they were all good warriors though who was better she didn't know at all.

Honestly, Petuniaflame had not paid much attention to her surroundings sense Looncry asked her thoughts on ThunderClan doing something. That was something she was now regretting as Looncry hushed them and pointed out that there were ThunderClan cats nearby. Listening now, she could hear them talking. Well, she couldn't make out their words per say but she heard them. Something about camp, but she didn't know what. "It’s okay, we just have to mark and check the border like normal, just have to make sure we mind our manners and keep to our side." Petuniaflame whispered to the two warriors, giving an encouraging smile. She wasn't going to avoid seeing ThunderClan at their border so why not just act polite and get this out of the way.
Spotting two cats over the border the little ginger and off-white molly could tell that they were in fact much bigger than her. One was missing part her leg and badly scared, the other looking almost as big, but older and battle scared as well. Something about this was starting to feel really wrong. Like she should just turn back and avoid meeting these two, but that wasn't an option. Swallowing back the strange feelings she gave one of her big friendly smiles as they began marking the border. "Hello!" Petuniaflame greeted the warriors, trying to be polite. Was that the right thing to do? She had no idea, but it was all she knew to do. Stay alert and mind her manners. That seemed reasonable. Glancing at Blizzardsky and Looncry she prayed they would follow her advice about keeping all this under control, yet she was also uncertain that was going to work. Oh, no.

It didn't take much sense for Whitewolf to realize this wasn't good. Albatrossflare hadn't made her any promises about leaving RiverClan alone, and here was a patrol of three RiverClan Warriors Whitewolf somewhat recognized. She wasn't sure she knew them by name, but she was certain she'd seen at least two of them at Gatherings.

They were adults for sure but far younger than she and Albatrossflare, and from what Whitewolf gathered about the she-cat who'd greeted her patrol, she definitely didn't seem hostile.

Maybe this encounter would be fine after all.

"Hello," Whitewolf replied coolly. "We've just come to mark our side of the Smallpines border and head home. I implore you not to mind us, and we'll leave you be as well. We're all here to perform the same Warrior duties."

>Albatrossflare<
His long ears swiveled forward to gain a better chance at hearing the RiverClan warriors' conversation, and what he picked up only soured his mood. Albatrossflare wasn't usually a violent cat - quite the opposite, in fact, he would almost always advocate for peace when presented the opportunity - but their words had thrown a damper on his mood. His claws slid out and scraped at the dirt momentarily, the first visual warning of his rising anger. 'Killing Mister Lionstorm', 'ThunderClan better not pull anything' - bah! The golden tom had murdered ThunderClan's leader in cold-blood and then had proceeded to do the same to several more innocent cats, including a queen and a young apprentice. And yet the river cats seemed far too keen on painting ThunderClan as the villain here.

If they wanted it that way, then so be it, he supposed.

The giant white tom stalked right up to the border line as the patrol of three appeared. "No, dear Whitewolf, by all means, allow them to keep speaking," he rumbled over his shoulder to his companion. "I would like to learn more about what they think of us." His voice was laced with a venomous threat that most would miss if they weren't paying full attention. He paused, then amended, "On second thought, I believe I have heard all that I need to."

He swept his gaze over the three RiverClanners, green eyes piercing even as they narrowed. "Fawnsqueak's death was an unfortunate loss, but one that ThunderClan took no part in. Mister Lionstorm, as you so sweetly put it, tore Buckstar's remaining lives from him in one fell swoop and then proceeded to attack our camp, murdering a queen, a young apprentice, and a former medicine cat. And yet your Clan seems so dearly inclined to shoulder the blame onto us."

"A life wrongfully taken requires a life in payment, darlings." His tone and his eyes became darker as he continued. "We have lost Buckstar, Rainywhisker, Dogspirit, and Applepaw - that is four lives. With Lionstorm's death, you have repayed us with one." Albatrossflare slowly glanced around the three cats once more, then settled on Blizzardsky. "And as much as it pains me to take such a young life, please remember that an apprentice was murdered that day. You will not die in vain."

Without another word, he launched himself across the border at Blizzardsky, claws outstretched and sharp fangs displayed and aiming right for the other tom's throat.

For the ThunderClan and RiverClan Patrols

"Albatrossflare--" Whitewolf began, but Albatrossflare saying he'd heard 'all he needed to' sent her pupils fading into apprehensive slits, and her body weight shifting back onto her rear paws in shock.

I need to stop him, she thought and tried the best to emerge from her surprised state. Albatrossflare had completely caught her off guard. That cruelty was something she hadn't expected him to bear, and while she cared deeply enough for her clanmates to mourn them, revenge hadn't quite been on her agenda.

Something new seized every pore of Whitewolf's skin and held fast firmer than a pair of unsheathed enemy claws...

...and that was the realization that perhaps the Senior Warrior did not know her clanmates as well as she'd previously thought.

"We're loyal Warriors, all grieving our own. Can't we just end this..." Whitewolf trailed off as Albatrossflare went on about lives. "An eye for an eye makes the world go--

NO!"

Whitewolf's ears drew back in uncontrollable horror, her claws digging into the ground. And she hated, oh-so-hated, that they were out even though she hadn't used them to tear into RiverClan flesh in that moment. It had been a while since they'd come to play...but this was not a game.

This was the beginning of something much more.

Something far darker.

Something horrible.

This

was the beginning of

war.

This

was the beginning of

war.

(OMG! This is so great!) (I want to join this, as I have a riverclan OC and a thunderclan one!) Tripleaf and Quietclaw both wandered into smallpines and saw a standoff occuring. this was strange as the two clans were relatively peaceful until now. None the less, both cats went to join their respective sides and prepared for a (Possible) Fight.

OOC: You’ll have to ask Fuzzy <3 I really appreciate you enjoying the event and my writing style! But Fuzzy is the one who organized this. So I wouldn’t be the one telling you whether you can or cannot join. Unfortunately, my guess is probably not because a bunch of us sort of planned this out <3 but I’m sure there will be plenty of future opportunities!

Blizzardsky gave a snarl as the Thunderclan warrior launched himself at him, he could handle one stupid Thunderclanner. He proceeded to unsheathe his claws and launch himself towards Albatrossflare aiming not to beat him up to much, mostly just trying to shove him back over the border where he belonged. Blizzardsky didn’t want Kestrelstar going on about how he was escalating things with Thunderclan, he was simply defending the border, not beating up the Thunderclanner, chasing him off was all.

Looncry narrowed his eyes at the idiotic ThunderClan cat. Oh, so now THEY were the bad guys. For one Petuniaflame was trying to lighten the situation, and even though he thought it was a bit annoying. ThunderClan cats had no right to mock his clanmate like that.

He stared across the border as the blabber mouth countinued to state things that were either half truths, or complete lies.

Then the tom did something he didn't expect.

He launched over the border when they hadn't even responded to what he had said. He was outnumbered, even if his clanmate decided to help. And he went into RiverClan territory.

How stupid was he?

Tripleaf walked over to Smallpines to relax after a slight fiasco involving Sweetpaw. He saw four cats squabbling like idiots and one launch themselves at both Riverclan cats, suicidal move, and stupid, as he was outnumbered 2 to 1. He hoped someone would come talk to him, and he wouldn’t have to focus on ANOTHER Thunderclan cat dying.

Burdock and Burnet. Spiky purple flowers, dig up and wash the roots; puffy red flowers, snag the wavy edges of their leaves. Tansy with its yellow spherical not-flowers. Simple enough.

Stormtalon turned at the sound of Loon’s voice (ignoring the plain irritation), then looked at each cat on the patrol in turn, assessing them.

“We’ll stay close enough to each other in case any predators make an appearance,” he began, taking the reins from Snakeheart because might as well. “Looncry and Raccooncall—if you have no objections, focus on burnet. Junipsersong and I will handle the burdock roots.” You’re welcome.

It was the easiest way to avoid personality clashes. Stormtalon would rather be paired with Juniper than have her friendliness affect the others’ productivity because they were too kittish to handle it. “If that works for everyone, let’s go.”

// Jayfeather 76 | Dizerel | Jackpot

Stormtalon stayed quiet during their trip to Smallpines, each stride confident as calculating green eyes trailed the path ahead. The less conversation between these mismatched personalities the better, he thought. In fact he all but ignored the presence of his patrol mates unless they spoke directly to him. Storm focused on the terrain beneath his paws instead, listened for the gentle white noise of the river which soon tickled his ears.

[His thoughts took a dark turn and Stormtalon wondered exactly where Lionstrom and Fawnsqueak were discovered, if they would end up patrolling nearby without knowing...senseless, fractured musings.]

When they arrived he didn't bother reiterating the game plan; he expected Raccooncall, Junipsersong and Looncry to know their tasks without him holding their paws. Storm didn't plan on intervening at all, really--he disliked hover-y patrol leads--unless it was plainly evident someone slacked off or was just incompetent.

Ears perked (Stormtalon didn't rule out the possibility that predators might be lurking), the grey tabby began his hunt for spiky purple flowers.

The entire way there, she was overenthusiastic. "Oh, come friends! This shall be very fun, yes! Do not look so down, be proud warriors! Don't let gloom rule your life!" Sticking her tongue out at them. Holding a goofy smile on her face the whole way there. Snakeheart must have made a conscious decision to pair her with some of the biggest grumps in the clan just to challenge her. She wasn't going to let this bring her down, though!

Though, eventually, they would have to split off, at least a bit. Stormtalon and Junipersong off looking for Burdock, while Raccooncall and Loonycry would be searching for Burnet.

She thought back to what Snakeheart said about Burdock. Spiky purple flowers. Dig up the plant for the root. Not remembering the part about washing it off and not carrying it in your mouth, as she began her search. Deciding to stray fairly close to the Thunderclan border, since its unlikely that anyone else would be brave enough to do so considering current relations between the two clans.

Whitewolf hated to admit it, but some of the things she’d seen her clanmates do had rooted distrust in a few of them. She wasn’t reckless enough to attack RiverClan cats over the feud between her Clan and theirs, even if it was eating her and the rest of ThunderClan up inside.

She’d come near the RiverClan border for the smell. Yes—that was a strange thing to want—the smell of RiverClan. But Whitewolf wanted to train herself to take it in without feeling hatred for her fellow cats. All four Clans were fundamentally the same….

…well, they were supposed to be.

Stormtalon split off from Loon and Raccooncall -- if the two ran into trouble, everyone was within hollering distance -- but tried to keep Junipersong in sight. She was more or less his partner in the burdock search [and if rumors were true, Storm suspected Kestrelstar would lop off his other ear should he let anything happen to her.]

"Stay close," Stormtalon warned when she padded uncomfortably close to the border. He didn't trust these surroundings. Too much happened here, too much blood stained this earth inside the past moon. In the end, stars. He decided to approach the border with Juniper in case anything unexpected happened.

Brushing away pickling unease, the warrior continued his herb search. He scanned the rocky terrain for a flat-looking plant low to the ground, spiky purple flowers, spiky purple flowers... - ah. Not much time passed before Storm noticed something two fox-lengths away from the river that fit the profile; Snakeheart's detailed description left no doubt in his mind this was burdock, ready to be dug up and washed.

Stormtalon scraped the dirt with claws unsheathed till he could see roots, careful not to pick them. Hmm. Recalling burdock would numb his mouth if carried too long, the tabby warrior decided to make a pile for now. He'd gather it when they regrouped with the others.

She was already off looking for purple spiked flowers. Surprisingly hard to keep track of for a cat with such a distinct pelt and tall stature. She would just be sniffing around one place or another, eyes constantly on the lookout for anything that gave a hint of purple, barely ever realizing that she was trailing closer and closer to the Thunderclan border.

Dismissively waving her tail as she was told to stay close, she eventually spotted the exact flowers she was looking for. Except.... it was right on the border. Pretty much on the line between the two clans. Even worse, it looked like a big one, too! She wasn't entirely certain how big they normally were, but if the roots were at all proportional to the size of the rest of the plant, she could certainly gather enough to count for two!

While Stormtalon wandered off for a plant near the river, she crept towards the one she found on the border. Stealth wasn't her strong suit, but what were the odds there were any Thunderclan warriors right here, right now?

She started digging up the roots, claws coming out to help her shovel dirt away. She was just about to grab the roots and snap them free when she heard rustling come from the Thunderclan side of the border. Oh no.... She couldn't just hide! Its obvious she was digging right here on the border. Taking a step back, but remaining in sight, looking nervous as Whitewolf made herself visible. "Oh..... H-hi there...." Junipersong nervously choked.

Whitewolf immediately took a defensive stance when she saw cats from RiverClan approaching the border. She didn't want a repeat of recent events.

It took her a few moments to shake that rigidity out of her body, head lowering in guilt. She'd caught herself assuming that RiverClan wanted to hurt her. But this Warrior sounded apprehensive to see her there, and Whitewolf hoped that meant she didn't want any trouble.

She was silent for a good moment, something cats who liked noise found incredibly frustrating most times. Then she flicked a striped ear and tilted her head quizzically at Junipersong.

"That's the burdock root plant, right? Our Medicine Cat needs some. Do you mind if I take a little back to him since the plant is right on our border?"

Sunhowl would be happy--well, as 'happy' as Sunhowl was capable of being--to see one of the plants he'd asked for show up after the patrol she'd led struggled. She might've been pushing her luck by asking a RiverClan cat to share with ThunderClan, though.

One might say Stormtalon was an expert at keeping an eye on cats without seeming like it. None would be harder to keep track of than his little brother Brightpaw, the kid who got distracted by anything and everything, who always thought—maybe I should touch that!—whenever he saw something remotely shiny. So no, Storm didn’t actually have eyes in the back of his head, he just learned to be extremely observant out of necessity.

Good thing Stormtalon’s babysitting level was StarClan-tier.

Storm's ears perked when he heard the smallest disturbance because he was listening for it; Junipersong's voice stood out against the neutral backdrop of moving riverwater. A chill swept through him when another voice answered her. Storm tasted the air and sure enough, fresh ThunderClan stench spilled over his scent glands, and what in the stars was she doing?? He abandoned the burdock.

“What’s this, then?” Stormtalon joined not one but two she-cats at the border, tail flicking back and forth, the only indication he might be restraining something. He stopped beside his clanmate somewhat protectively while taking a few mental notes.

This ThunderClan warrior looked to be much older than Juniper and himself, built tall with many signs of battle marring her white fur; Storm subjected the molly to a look of cold scrutiny (but betrayed no signs of aggression.) Was she alone?

“No false moves, thundercat," he warned in a lowered, calm voice. The tabby was ready to unsheathe his claws at the drop of a whisker if given a reason. He considered it common courtesy to let the other know.

Junipersong was frozen up for a solid moment. It was the first time she had ever met face-to-face with another molly that had as large a stature and intimidating presence.

She was afraid that this cat was going to be just as angry with Riverclan as most of Junipersong's clanmates were angry with Thunderclan. Turning her head away, eyes closed, ready for something sharp to be said. Then, all this cat asked for was to share the plant. A bit shocked, she had been worried that things would have turned into a skirmish without even a chance to be reasonable, instead this was a pleasant surprise. Opening her eyes again, she was about to speak right as Stormtalon burst his way into the conversation.

Looking back and forth between her clanmate and this stranger. She could tell Stormtalon was aggressive, and trying to be protective, and Junipersong wasn't going to have any of it. "Now now, Stormtalon. You cant just be mean to the Thundercats! How else are we going to repair relations?"

Turning to look at Whitewolf now. "Sorry about him. Most of my clanmates seem like they have a thorn in their side recently. My name is Junipersong, its lovely to meet you, and I would be happy to share the Burdock!" She smiled, taking a seat right next to the plant she had already half dug-up.

No false moves, Thundercat.

Whitewolf eyed Stormtalon with that piercing glare she'd give a ThunderClan Warrior who'd just crossed a border. She was glad to see he wasn't irrational, but that gladness remained locked tightly behind a cage of hardened facade.

She had the same thing to tell Stormtalon, really. Eveningstar wouldn't be pleased if RiverClan cats attacked her--Whitewolf was known to uphold peace unless someone else made the first move. Words were not enough to make her claws unsheathe; not the way they'd been when she was far younger.

"How old are you?" she asked him. He probably hadn't expected that question, but it was what he'd gotten.

She then turned to Junipersong with a slight smile when the she-cat offered her some of the burdock root.

"Sunhowl will be pleased," said Whitewolf. Well, that wasn't entirely true. When was Sunhowl ever pleased? But she knew ThunderClan needed burdock root, so this was important. "Hello, Junipersong," the Senior Warrior dipped her head respectfully. "I am Whitewolf of ThunderClan. I have come in peace."

Now now, Stormtalon. He didn’t grow up with a mother and therefore was never chided by one, but as he tossed a brief quizzical look at Junipersong, he wondered if hers was a good impression. Was he amused or irritated by the bizarre intervention? ...Perhaps a bit of both.

How else would they repair—was this cat serious? Obviously he made the right choice keeping Juniper away from Looncry and Raccooncall; not only would they have refused to share herbs with a thundercat, but claws would have been drawn at the mere sight of one, stupid impulsives that they were.

“’What you call mean I call honest courtesy,” he mewed, green eyes glinting with something unreadable. Stars above. Storm was not the unreasonable one here.

Stormtalon never took his eyes off the thundercat and judging by her glare, she had more common sense than his own clanmate did. But still. As much as he’d like to call Junipersong out for her naïve goodwill this ThunderClan warrior wasn’t aggressive; offense and defense looked different, and what Storm saw was the latter. Only idiots fought unnecessary battles.

Interesting question to choose. Storm’s features remained stoic when he answered: “Twenty-six moons—though I’m not sure it matters. Age doesn’t always guarantee wisdom. Experience is a better measure.”

By the look of her, Whitewolf had more of both than Juniper and Storm combined. Unseen tension in the tom’s shoulders relaxed at her seeming neutrality, although he never fully let his guard down. No protests came either. Sharing the burdock wasn’t preferable but it was fair, and Stormtalon would rather this interaction didn’t turn sour, being responsible for Juniper’s safe return as well as Snakeheart's herbs.

"Are you alone?" He didn't smell any other thundercats yet -- but that didn't mean they weren't close by.

She started to dig up the rest of the plant. Pulling it free from the ground and breaking off the roots with her teeth. Then separating them into two equal-ish piles.

"Go ahead. Take whichever of the two piles you want. So, what brings you to the border?" Junipersong asked Whitewolf, taking a seat back to give the other molly room to pick whichever pile they wanted. Its clear Stormtalon also didn't want any sort of skirmish here, but he wasn't being the nicest about it, either. There was no rule in the warrior code that said two cats from different clans could have a chat across the border. "If it isn't obvious I'm out hee gatha-ing ubs" her speech started to slur at the end of her sentence, her mouth and tongue now going numb from having chewed the burdock to split it into piles. Give-and-take wasn't how Whitewolf operated, but there were some cases where it seemed fairer than her other options. And Stormtalon had answered her question. She would answer his in turn.

"I find age makes experience, although I have met Warriors who act like kits and Apprentices who seem to have the souls of Elders. What you've discovered is that you're an exception, much like them." Flicking a whisker, Whitewolf decided it was alright to sit down. That'd be a better way to show the RiverClan cats she didn't mean any harm. "Unless one of the kits followed me out of the Nursery, I should be alone. Albeit that's only happened once and certainly not in the way I just described."

Mismatched eyes glinted with amusement as Junipersong told Stormtalon off. A side-effect of being young was not often being taken seriously, but Whitewolf tended to treat cats based on a combination of the age they acted and the age they were--something Stormtalon had suggested not a minute ago.

"I wanted to smell RiverClan," Whitewolf replied to Junipersong. It was...a strange response, but an honest one at that. "The scent ThunderClan calls its enemy. It reminds me of rain."

Stormtalon didn’t react other than flashing a sardonic grin. Did Junipersong forget ThunderClan’s unprovoked assault on Splashleap and her patrol? Did she develop amnesia about why this border was closed off to apprentices, why Kestrelstar asked even the warriors to stay in groups? Remarkable.

“Listen, Sunshine. This isn’t about you or how competent you are -- it's called being responsible for my patrol. You might not be a kit, but if it’s too hard for you to understand why I'd be cautious, you’re as senseless as one.”

He wasn’t angry, wasn’t particularly trying to insult her. It was just the truth and if she wanted to talk about it in front of a thundrcat? So be it. Juniper reminded him of a certain starry-eyed little brother of his who just wanted everything to be about love and butterflies.

“Be kind and chat over border lines, but the world you want to see is not the world you’re in. If your recklessness gets you hurt or worse? Take an educated guess who pays for it.”

Stormtalon suppressed a weary sigh when he noticed the slurring a moment later. Did she…stars. Well. It wasn't poisonous or anything, so he’d just let Juniper handle this one ‘on her own.'

Turning to Whitewolf, a molly he began to respect from her level-headedness, Storm felt comfortable to mirror her posture. Whiskers twitched at her comment about kits. She spent time in the nursery, then? That wasn’t surprising; Stormtalon recognized hints of the caretaker in her like shards of a kindred spirit.

Her reason wasn't strange, least not to him. Stormtalon did something similar once. But...how funny ThunderClan called them ‘enemy.’

“I didn't mean to offend you with my wariness,” Storm addressed the older warrior. “But I'm glad we ran into you and not your clanmates.”

[Sorry this is delayed, I'll just go ahead and have her die here and wrap this up <3]

Petuniaflame almost physically relaxed as she was greeted back with a calm tone by the ThunderClan cat. See, they could all be civil! This patrol would go just fine, then Blizzardsky and her could go pick flowers. Offering another smile, the small warrior would nod in agreement. “Yes, I would like that. We’ll do our side, you do yours and we’ll both go on peacefully!” She chirped, quite pleased with what was going on. A normal, civil agreement to just do their jobs and move on. Things could go back to normal, and every cat would just learn to be better. No more fighting and arguing. No more death.
Petuniaflame went on to dip her head when she heard the other ThunderClan warrior start to speak. His words just left an unsettling feeling in her. Something wasn’t right about them, however harmless they sounded they still left her feeling unsettled. How he said to let them speak just gave her chills. As he went on, she froze. Her original, ‘they sounded harmless’ thoughts were soon replaced with the opposite thought as Albatrossflare went on. His look made her tense up and subconsciously step back.
What was he talking about? Mister Fawnsqueak had been murdered, that was what she was told. They had evidence, and Mister Lionstorm would never do that unprovoked. Sure, he had been hotheaded at times, but he was not a murderer! He would never kill innocent cats, especially not a queen, apprentice, and medicine cat! The former leader would never have done that. He had to be mistaken. “What are you talking about?” She asked searching his face. He looked like he was about to do something that they would all regret. Why was he even bringing this up? She was having a conversation between Looncry and Blizzardsky, not him. “We don’t want any trouble, we just want to mark our side of the border and go home.” Petuniaflame added, glancing between her Clanmates, hoping they knew what was going on.
Wait… What? Pay? Why would they be paying!? Was he talking about killing one of them?! Surely not! That couldn’t possibly be what he meant. This was probably some sort of sick warning. Right?

No… it wasn’t…

Petuniaflame’s eyes widened as he finished up his speech, her gaze darting between the five of them. No one was doing anything, Looncry standing tensely beside her, Blizzardsky ready to fight on her other side. The ThunderClan molly tried to reason with the tom, but he ignored her completely. Not even noting her words. This was going to turn into a fight, wasn’t it? Her amber eyes finally settled back on the tom, but his eyes were now fixated on Blizzardsky. Wait, he didn’t even do anything! Was he going to-?
Her whole world slowed. Heart not even wanting to beat. She was too late to realize that he was launching for her brother to warn him. Blizzardsky was countering with his own jumping attack. He knew better then to jump into a jump! Why was he doing that now? Oh dear. No, no, that’s not gonna work! Oh, Spirits pleases! She plead desperately. He was going to get hurt, this wasn’t a simple fight, this warrior was blood thirsty!
In the end her body moved on its own. Her legs sprung forward, dashing for the two colliding cats as fast as her little body would take her. She was not going to stand by and knowingly watch any of her Clanmates get hurt. That was something she could never do. She could never let any of this happen willingly.
“NOO!!” Petuniaflame yowled leaping off the ground and into her brother. He couldn’t get hurt like this, not when he was about to be a father. Not when he was her little brother! “Don’t hurt my brother!” She screamed, squeezing her eyes shut as she collided with the toms. Within seconds of hitting into Blizzardsky she felt claws slam into her, teeth soon finding their way into her neck, making her eyes snap open. Everything happening before she hit the ground. The suddenness of it all dazed her, making her feel winded, yet the pain brought tears to her eyes. She wanted to fight but the slightest twitch brought waves of pain to her. She couldn’t even fight him off. Petuniaflame tried to take in a breath, but her throat wouldn’t let her, hot thick liquid seeping into her fur and lungs.
She was dying…. She could feel it. Body slowly losing feeling, vision blurry. She felt cold, yet a numbness spread over her. Maybe it wasn’t slow but everything around her was moving so slow it felt like she wasn’t even there. Like she was fighting to even keep her soul in her body.
Petuniaflame didn’t know what to do, she didn’t expect to die so soon. It left her confused. Yet, all she could think was that she saved Blizzy. She protected him! Despite the pain, confusion, and complete daze she was in, the tiniest of smile formed on her muzzle. I did something worth my life… I served RiverClan and saved Blizzy… She reminded herself. She served her Clan and family with her life, that was something she could live with, or die with in her case.
Feeling her body get colder and number by every heartbeat, Petuniaflame couldn’t even find the strength to move. Her mind was becoming so foggy she couldn’t even think. Every gasp her body forced her to take made her painfully shake. Coughing up some of the red liquid that seemed to be running down her once white fur, she jerked, jaw quivering before it settled back into a smile.

This was it. She was dying.

Memories flashed through her mind. Playing with her brother under the willow tree that first time, giving her mother flowers to wear in her fur, going off to explore on her own. Her mom pushing her out of the way when a speeding monster came out of nowhere. Her brother and her weeping together, their fight, him getting killed. She remembered her first time in RiverClan, being found by Mister Fallenstar in the territory, thinking he would eat her but learning he just wanted to help her out. Being brought back to see so many cats, the peace she felt when Sugerapple let her cry into her first time and then adopted her, the joy that spread through her with every cat she met. Regrets stuck out, from where she left camp multiple times for various reasons and getting lost or catnapped, from where she didn’t work hard enough to keep cats in her life. Yet, bliss washed that away, remembering when she met Blizzy and challenged him to behave and when she was assigned Mister Ms. Sassyfire to be trained. When she was let back into RiverClan more than once by Mister Lionstorm and Mister Sootstar. Being made a warrior and serving her Clan.
So many memories of her life flooded her, reminding her what a beautiful life she had. Every time she was knocked down, she got back up, she brought cats with her, lifted them up. In the end she really did give back to RiverClan. She completed her goals and found joy. That was what Petuniaflame had done. She lived a good life that made her who she was, and she was happy with that.

A final breath shook her body before she fell limp, hanging like a piece of prey after it was killed. No strength left in her to so much as breath. Choked and suffocated by her own blood and broken windpipe. Her once bright and warm amber eyes clouded over, lifeless, and cold. She was gone, spirit pulled from her body.
Petuniaflame was dead. Her heart no longer beating, lungs breathing no more. She was gone.

For the ThunderClan and RiverClan Patrols

Whitewolf's age and experience was the only thing preventing her from holding fast to Alabtrossflare's leg with her teeth; hurting him could easily be interpreted as fighting on RiverClan's side, and that was not what Whitewolf was trying to do. But she wasn't trying to let this poor, sweet-seeming she-cat who leapt in front of Blizzardsky suffer for her reckless clanmate's actions, either.

Whitewolf looked awkward standing on her hind legs, but that was what she had to do to let Albatrossflare know she was there since he clearly wouldn't listen to her words. She set a massive paw on his shoulder--the only thing she felt she could do anymore--and that set her severely off balance because of her missing leg.

She looked so strange, exposed in the middle of what had become a battlefield.

But maybe someone had to be.

"Albatrossflare, let go of her! Can't you see she's dying?"

At the point of her intervention, Whitewolf hadn't yet realized Petuniaflame was already too far gone to be saved. Albatrossflare's teeth had punctured her most vital arteries, and even if he let go she'd probably bleed out in a matter of minutes.

...and her brother.

She'd said the cat Albatrossflare had tried to attack was her brother.

Even now--no, especially now--as Whitewolf had entered her eightieth moon, she knew she'd trade her life for one of her siblings' in a heartbeat. Autumnleaf, Springpaw, and Deerpaw had so much life ahead of them when they'd died. And it seemed so too did Petuniaflame and Blizzardsky. But Albatrossflare was snuffing one of them out while Whitewolf watched, painfully powerless in a situation she grappled helplessly to change.

"You're killing her," Whitewolf repeated, her voice hardly above a whisper this time.

Was the world not wide enough for ThunderClan and RiverClan?

Sometimes, it seemed it was for the four of them. But all these young cats' blood was being shed for nothing. No one would remember any of them fifty years from now, even though some of their blood might course through the veins of their distant posterity.

No one would remember what they looked like, or what they sounded like, and the next generations would twist up their stories to an irreversible point.

And Whitewolf feared, like many others, that this might be one of the stories told.

A story so Earth-shaking and bloody that the Warriors involved never speak of it, for it takes an inexorable toll on their hearts. A story dark enough to shake the world--to shape the future--a story that had already taken parents from their children and sisters from their brothers.

A story of war.

Blizzardsky was fully ready to beat up that Thunderclan warrior, when suddenly he felt Petuniaflare shoving him back as he hit the ground only to glance up to see the most horrific sight he’d ever seen, that Albatrossflare as the other Thunderclan warrior called him sinking his teeth deep into Petuniaflare’s neck, killing her. Now he was blinded with rage at Thunderclan, he took no pity on Thunderclan anymore and without a second thought he attempted to strike Albatrossflare hard on the head, he fully intended to avenge Petuniaflare’s death, unfortunately, he’d either be bleeding on the ground before this ended, or being dragged back by his clanmate kicking and screaming like a little kit throwing a tantrum. Yes he’d grieve his sister’s death, but in this very moment all he could think was to avenge her death, because of his blinding rage, he wouldn’t be fighting that well, but at least he knew the moves. Hopefully Albatrossflare wouldn’t kill him. He was smart enough even in this pure rage not to chase Albatrossflare very far into Thunderclan territory, he didn’t want to get swarmed for trespassing, but he had no issues right now with a little trespassing to kill Albatrossflare, even though it was most definitely not what his now dead sister would want, she probably had already forgiven Albatrossflare up in Starclan and was disappointed to see him escalating things more, then again it’s hard to escalate from a cold blooded murder.

Zzz..Choo! The Sneeze was so powerful it woke up Tripleaf and made him fall backwards.
"Wah?! Oh... That was Great!, a Thunderclan warrior just got knocked onto his ass by his own sneeze!" he scolded himself louder than he meant to, and Got up to Try to defuse the situation in case anyone was watching or listening.

This whole talk of age and experience was going over her head. She was only 22 moons old, barely had been a warrior for half a year, Nervously shifting from paw to paw as she was sort of left out of that part of the conversation. Then perking back up once the 'smell' of riverclan was mentioned.

"Oh, yes, I know what you mean. I often go to our beach just to smell the salt of the ocean and relax." She commented. She saw it as a totally reasonable thing to do, so long as the borders were obeyed. Even then, she would be a lot more lenient than most.

She then seemed irked at what Stormtalon had to say. Finally turning away from Whitewolf and to him. "Strange how we are talking with a cat from another clan, and yet my own clanmate is the one trying to scathe me with words. Kestrelstar knows I am reckless and get myself hurt often. I saved his life once by doing it. I shall be fine." She grumbled in an act of aggression that was very out of character for her. Then, turning back to Whitewolf with her usual happy smile. "Well, did you want to scan the border together to see if there is any more burdock? Id rather have someone from Thunderclan to vouch for me instead of risking getting caught testing the border for herbs again."

(This is my 100th post with Whitewolf woot woot)
For Dizerel (Junipersong)
For Redtalon (Stormtalon)

Stormtalon's commentary made Whitewolf chuckle. The tom reminded her of herself when she was younger--well, not too much younger--for she'd been reckless then, and Stormtalon didn't quite seem that type. But she didn't want him to think she was laughing at her, so Whitewolf pulled herself together.

"I believe Eveningstar is doing his best to mitigate tensions between ThunderClan and RiverClan. However, a Leader's efforts only do so much when they don't reflect some of the Clan's behavior." Tilting her head a little, she looked between Junipersong and Stormtalon. "You can count on me and some others in ThunderClan to attempt in maintaining what little peace remains. The ratio of reasonable to not seems the same in every Clan." She dipped her head at the RiverClan Warriors. "That being said, I am glad to have encountered you two as well."

Nodding, she looked to Junipersong.

"Yes, I would like to search for more herbs with you. Both of our Clan's Medicine Cats will find good uses for them."

It had all happened so quickly... Looncry felt that him and his clanmates had just been talking a few heartbeats ago.

He had been annoyed and hadn't wanted to patrol in the first place. But he hadn't wanted it to end like this. It had just seemed like a hostile confrontation, which was normal right now. But Albatrossflare had pounced.

Looncry hadn't been thinking and wasn't able to react in time. But Petuniaflame had. She had been able to jump in the way of the blow, and Albatrossflare had been going for a kill. So the blow was hard and accurate. When it landed on her, blood spilled and she fell to the ground motionless. Just. Like. That.

He couldn't even look angry, his face was just filled with horror. You... killed her! He tried to screech, but it came out as merely a whisper.

Tears filled his eyes as he walked over to her body. Looncry didnt even care that Alabtrossflare and Blizzardsky were fighting in the background. Normally he would have loved to get in a fight with the mangy ThunderClan cats.

But not now. He took a seat next to her body and attempted to like away the blood from her wounds. God there was so much blood. It was covering the ground all around her and matted her pelt.

Albatrossflare would pay for this. Whether Blizzardsky killed him right now. Or Looncry had to wait moons and moons. He would never forget this day.

>Albatrossflare<
This turn of events was... unexpected, to say the least. Albatrossflare nearly faltered as the young she-cat threw herself in front of the tom - her brother, as she so stated. This was not the cat who was meant to die today, but he couldn't stop his fangs from sinking into her throat until it was too late, even with Whitewolf's grip on his shoulder. He reared back, stumbled a few steps, before he fell back to his paws with a heavy thump. Slowly, he lowered the body down to the ground.

His legs shook but he hid it well, despite his shock. There was no denying the scarlet that soaked his chest and jaws and throat, and as he opened his mouth to speak - WHAM. A heavy blow to the head sent him reeling, stumbling to the side, and with sheathed claws he reached out to shove Blizzardsky away with a rough blow to the chest.

"I am sorry. I did not mean for it to be her, but it seems fate has had other plans," he rasped, briefly flashing reddened teeth. "But what is done is done. The debt is half-paid. She died honorably, and the stars will offer her the brightest place in the sky in her memory." With a brief dip of his head - fresh blood welling from the stinging scratches between his ears - he turned away and passed Whitewolf, gesturing with his tail for her to follow. "We must be going now."

Looncry was relived to get away from Juniblabbermouth. He had almost pounced on her, but had managed to hold it in.

He began searching around for what Snakeheart had described to them as Burnet. He hoped Racconcall had followed him, becasue they were supposed to be together right now.

But oh well, he continued his search.

Raccooncall
______________

The grey tom stomped along beside his patrolmates, keeping a rather large space between Junipersong and himself. Thank goodness Stormtalon decided to take her with him, because if he was with her? Oh, he would not be having a good time, thats for sure. Granted, he wasnt sure it was possible to even have a good time while on a patrol, but his point still stands.

As the group came to a halt, he immediately split off and went on his way, staying just withing Looncrys line of vision so they didnt think he deserted the patrol or anything stupid like that.

Now, what was he supposed to look for again? Burnin or something? Eh, that as probably close enough. Leaves were leaves, as far as he was concerned.

Raccooncall began to root around in the foliage, looking for any stand-outish leaves (they all looked the same to him). What did Snakeheart say they looked like again? Sweet smelling and flowery? Well, there were a bunch of flowers around him, that was for sure. Red was probably the color he said the flowers were, so he plucked up a sweet smelling shrub with a poofy red flower on it. Hmmm, oh why not! He could take another! Not like he had any trouble carrying them, they were just plants!

// Dizerel | OhZeeWolf --

Stormtalon decided to ignore Junipersong’s comments because when a cat was incapable of reason, arguing with them was just flat out unproductive. The best thing to do was move on...even if it irked him.

Interesting Juniper’s mind instantly went to Kestrelstar when Stormtalon had meant the entirety of RiverClan would pay, should her injury or death become a stepping stone to war. He didn’t know what Kestrel saw in her. Selfish, shortsighted, kind to a fault—but not his problem anymore after this patrol. A silver lining.

On the other paw, Whitewolf’s thoughts on peace were interesting. She was still level-headed, but. Well. He doubted her words would make a difference even if they were true. Stormtalon only nodded in response, holding back -- if only to avoid offending Junipersong’s rose-colored lens with his unwelcome cynicism.

At least her idea to use Whitewolf as a buffer was a good one. Stormtalon would keep his guard up either way, but their chances of avoiding a fight were better with someone to vouch for them. “Fine—so long as we do this quickly,” he mewed. Regretting everything.

It didn’t take long to find more burdock and Storm’s pile grew. One was near the border on RiverClan’s side, another some fox-lengths away from that, and one he spotted across from the riverbank. Stormtalon took care digging so that he didn’t pick the skin of the roots (and so avoided the numbness his eager clanmate experienced earlier.) Root-washing turned out to be therapeutic. Cool water felt good on his paws.

All the while Storm kept Whitewolf and Junipersong in his peripheral, half-listening to where their conversation might lead, making sure no danger lurked in the shadows. The tabby stayed close enough that he could intervene if need be.

When he padded back to his odd companions, Storm collected as much burdock as he could carry -- plus one clump of what he thought was tansy. “Make sure you wash the burdock. Snakeheart will have [I]my tail if you bring him muddy roots,” he warned Juniper, in case she forgot. Which was...likely.

Oh Blizzardsky wasn’t done with this Albatrossflare, he had killed his sister and just offered him a pathetic ‘oops it was suppose to be you’ of he was paying with his life, ideally, the other warrior was Albatrossflare’s sibling, a better way to avenge Petuniaflare. He scoffed at the warrior’s weakly just shoving him aside, fine don’t fight I’ll just kill you. without a second thought he crossed the border to launch himself onto Albatrossflare’s back hoping his thick and large size would crush him giving Blizzardsky the opportunity to sink his fangs into the back of his neck and watch him bleed out.

For the ThunderClan and RiverClan Patrols

It was beyond rare to see Whitewolf with a temper at all. She had mellowed out with all her age, but not as completely as most of ThunderClan had thought. Impulsivity in her youth had cost her more than they knew--her leg and nearly her life at that.

As if that wild youth had found its way back into her body, Whitewolf's normally-calm, odd eyes blazed painfully to life. It was Albatrossflare's words that had done it; that had made her fire emerge.

"It is not your duty to play fate, Albatrossflare," she snapped, eyes narrowed. She found herself taking the offensive against her own clanmate right in front of two RiverClan Warriors...well, it had been three. She eyed the ground, the RiverClan cats, then Albatrossflare himself.

"You have brought shame to ThunderClan. You have dishonored StarClan. You have broken the Warrior Code."

Petuniaflame's battered, bloody body was all Whitewolf could look at now. Not her own clanmate or the cats on the other side of a border that seemed to define itself more by the minute. "You will go home without me as I offer what little aid I can to those you've impulsively harmed."

They made good progress with the herbs. In fact, by the end of it, the two warriors would barely be able to carry it all back to Snakeheart in one trip! Each time Junipersong found burdock, she completely forget to avoid sinking her teeth into it or letting it touch her tongue. Every time, her tongue just got more numb, slurring her speech even more for a few sentences until she was able to adjust. Any time there was an herb close enough to the border that it would raise question, Junipersong would happily dig it up and split it in half to share with Whitewolf, to avoid any arguments or problems that may arise.

The whole time, holding a conversation with Whitewolf with whatever topics may be of interest. Current events in Riverclan, anything interesting going on, perhaps gossip about other clans, though Junipersong avoided anything too negative for the most part, she didn't like speaking bad about someone behind their back.

"I am glad that we can do this. More skirmishes are likely to happen, and I would prefer that for the both of our clans, we have the necessary medicine to treat any injuries that may come about. I would hate to hear that one of my clanmates inadvertently caused the death of someone from your clan." She said while starting to wrap things up, finding large leaves to try and carry all the burdock she found back in a bundle.

For Dizerel (Junipersong)
For Redtalon (Stormtalon)

Whitewolf gave Stormtalon a curt nod; she didn't plan on being out and about near the RiverClan border any longer than she had to be now that others had shown up. She didn't want another ThunderClanner to come by and think they should even the score by turning this peaceful interaction into a two-on-two skirmish.

At least Sunhowl and Iciclepaw would be grateful for all the burdock root she and Junipersong found, and there would be plenty of the bitter stuff to go around in case of rat bites. Sunhowl did enough work as it was since cats seemed to want to avoid helping him. Perhaps because he was grumpy, but Whitewolf liked him for it.

"I, too, would be upset if ThunderClan laid an ill-intended claw on a RiverClan cat. But, Junipersong, I will tell you that these things are bound to happen. While unfortunate, you two are both young. This is your first time witnessing the beginnings of war." Whitewolf flicked a tattered ear; she would have waved one had she one to wave at all.

"I believe it's time that I must be going. But I will admit it was pleasant to speak to the both of you, and I hope to see you at the Gathering. Perhaps we may speak again."

// Dizerel | OhZeeWolf - just officially ending this interaction with a neat lil bow ~

I would hate to hear that one of my clanmates inadvertently caused the death of someone from your clan. Junipersong’s words echoed in Storm’s ears. Like so many thundercats inadvertently caused the deaths of their clanmates? Accidents, murder, the whole damned history -- none of it could be so easily swept away under a rug of good-intentions. Stormtalon searched inside for the softness Juniper showed ThunderClan and found himself indifferent, calcified instead.

Still. He was able to assign blame where it belonged. Not to Whitewolf, who had been amiable so far, a neutral force Stormtalon felt no urgency to confront, but to ThunderClan’s aggressors and absent-minded leaders. Perhaps even to murderers who struck Fawnsqueak with a rock or tore out Lion’s flesh until the gold fur disappeared, slick with blood. To all of them he assigned blame; but not to Whitewolf.

Stormtalon nodded at the ThunderClan warrior in a small show of respect. “At the next gathering, then.” That was if no claws were drawn before they got a chance. The last gathering’s chaos stayed fresh in his mind.

He turned away then, striped tail flicking, a way of warning Junipersong to keep pace. Stormtalon didn't speak to her on their return trip. His excuse? A bundle of herbs between his teeth.

Emberpaw didn't wait to find Gecksprout or Thistlethorn before trotting after their patrol lead - a stocky molly with orange and black fur, much larger than Ember herself (who'd always been small for her age.) After spending so much time in a camp gloomy from defeats? She found Berryburr's confidence magnetic.

The others would follow, right? "I'm coming!" The apprentice hummed, ramping up her speed till she padded with Berry side by side. Emberpaw shivered at the thought of patrolling the RiverClan border, considering all the stuff that happened there recently. A question slipped from her maw before she thought about whether it was in bad taste: "Do you think we'll see any rivercats?"

with berryburr and emberpaw already making their way out of camp only moments after patrols were assigned, geckosprout spent no time in following after the two. "cominggg!" he called out, quickening his pace into a trot, only slowing down once he was padding along side the apprentice and warrior. (he was sure thistlethorn was following not too far behind, but didn't make the effort to glance behind him.)

emberpaws question resulted in him letting out a low hum at the possibility. with all the stuff that was going on between the two clans, he wasn't so sure if he wanted to end up running into any riverclanners. "let's hope the guppies stay in their river and leave us alone," he commented, ears twitching with interest to hear berryburr's own opinion.

Thistlethorn merely hummed, trotting after the group. The dark gray and white tabby tom kept to himself but look about, ears twitching to hear anything unusual. So, he instead focused on his patrolmates... Berryburr, Geckosprout, and Emberpaw, huh? He didn't know any of them, but then again, he wasn't exactly social to begin with. Should he make an effort to talk to them? No, not yet anyway. Instead, the tom kept silent, dark blue eyes scanning the area.

Berryburr
__________

Good, good, good! They were all here. Wouldn't have to be reporting anyone for being a no-show today. Emberpaw's enthusiasm was amusing and Berryburr couldn't help but grin at the little she-cat - it was nice to have someone just as ready to work as she was.

"If all goes well," she mused, "We won't catch a single whiff of their stinking fishbreath."

Before long, it seemed, they were already at the border. 'What a good pace we're making.' she thought. They'd be back at camp before midday if they kept this up, "Right then! Let's started."

And she was off, trotting along the border and refreshing the markers with extra care and precision, making sure they were strong and recognizable. Wouldn't want to give the fishies any excuse for trespassing - least of all that the markers weren't strong enough.

// wnder | finnzel | Kyrieknight - patrol prompt; faintest scent of badger lingers.

Berryburr's smile infected Emberpaw and the apprentice smiled back. She felt better hearing the two warriors chime in -- it almost didn't matter that Thistlethorn stayed silent. He looked too busy scouting the territory to contribute, and she didn't blame him.

Their patrol lead didn't waste time. Seconds after they arrived at the border, Berry was already off, sprucing up the faint markers to be new again. Emberpaw shifted on her paws and watched. She'd never been on a patrol like this before, never refreshed a marker or even looked over the RiverClan border; her mentors had a bad habit of disappearing without teaching her anything useful.

Ember was about to start copying Berryburr when she froze. Black ears perked and -- wait: she noticed a scent, one that didn't belong to ThunderClan or RiverClan, a realization that ruffled the little calico's fur.

"Hey - you smelling that?" Emberpaw opened her maw, allowed this stench to reach her scent-glands. It was weird...not something she recognized. Stale though, so that was good; whatever creature it was must've moved on not too long ago. Ember's pink nose scrunched in disgust and she snapped her jaws shut. "It stinks."

berryburr's own response caused geckosprout to let out an amused sounding hum, quickening his pace just a bit once the borders came into sight. alright! if they kept this up, they'd have the borders marked in no time-- a quick glance and he noted that thistlethorn was indeed following. good, he thought with a short purr, trotting over to the border lines. it would be a shame if one of their patrol members didn't show up!

just as he was about to begin marking the borders, emberpaws question made him look over. a short opening of his jaws and his nose scrunched up. "youre right, it smells terrible," he agreed with a small frown. it smelled familiar, he couldn't name it though, with how stale it was. (maybe that was just a him thing?)

"it's stale, though." he noted, looking over to thistlethorn. such a quiet guy. "say, can you pinpoint the smell, thistlethorn?" he questioned, going back to the main objective and refreshing the border marks. now guppies wouldn't trespass!

Thistlethorn lifted his nose and froze for a moment. It smelled like... badger? No, it couldn't be. There hadn't been any reports of badgers recently, unless they hadn't been announced yet, which he highly doubted. And it was stale, too, so that meant it was no longer there, right? Still, the fur along his spine bristled lightly, and he turned his head towards a toppled, rotting tree log. "Over there."

Berryburr
__________

Although still half-focused on refreshing the markers, Berryburr's ears remained perked up and tilted in the direction of the conversation. She was bound to get this done in a timely manner but wasn't going to be a complete stickler if the others wanted to chat along the way.

Her attention started to shift lazily at the mention of stale scents and she continued all the same. However, not more than a moment or two later, the scent hit her nose as well and she stopped dead in her tracks. It was stale, that much they were right about, but that gave them no less reason to not be cautious. "Badger." she meowed firmly, confirming Thistlethorn's thoughts. Berryburr changed her course and marched towards the log with sureness and purpose, only slowing to a stop within a few tail-lengths.

"Emberpaw - stay back. Geckosprout, Thistlethorn - eyes up and alert. Scent's long stale but I still want your guard up."

Badger. So THAT's what it was? A predator, this much she knew, but Ember had never seen one before.

Emberpaw wondered where she was supposed to stay back from with the RiverClan border at one side and this stinky log at the other. If they did find a badger, which according to the faint scent was unlikely, wouldn't the warriors need help taking it down?

Sticking her chin up in mild defiance, Ember padded up behind Berryburr and tossed a look over (around) the she-cat's shoulder where Thistlethorn indicated. She didn't like being underestimated. Ember may have started out a kittypet, but she was fiercer, hungrier than most clan-borns knew. Besides. None of them -- Geckosprout, Thistlethorn, or even Berryburr seemed that scared. Why should Ember be?

"I can fight, too," the apprentice mewed stubbornly, calico tail thrashing in the air.

badger?

geckosprouts ears swiveled with interest, listening to the others talk and casting a glance to the rotting log. berryburr was already marching her way over to it, nodding at her commands. "you're right, emberpaw!" he assured with a small nod, watching the apprentice walk over to berryburr.

"buttt! we can't risk an apprentice getting hurt if there was a stinky badger over there." he said, choosing to stay where he was and not go over to the log. by the stale scent, he was positive that there wasn't a badger or anything over there that they would have to fight-- so why worry about it and stalk over there?
