Thistlethorn grunted. He was well aware that it was highly unlikely that a badger remained, but wasn't going to take any chances. He approached alongside Berryburr, pelt pricked and ears twitching for any sign of anything out of place.

Berryburr
__________

Berryburr chose to ignore Emberpaw's defiance for now - that could be dealt with in a moment. Creeping forward, the warrior sniffed around the opening of the old log before taking a cautious step inside to look around. Empty, abandoned sometime in the last moon but not terribly recently. It still stunk something terrible, though, and Berryburr wrinkled her nose as she pulled herself out.

"It's long gone. We'll still need to report this - it's only moved its den and we can't be certain it's not still in the territory." she meowed to Geckosprout and Thistlethorn. With a slight nod towards the border, she continued, "You two finish up refreshing the markers."

"As for you-" Turning to face Emberpaw, any friendliness or lighthearted attitude from the beginning of the patrol was lost and she raised a paw to cuff the apprentice over the ears, "Can and should fight are two entirely different things. If you're given an order, you follow it - none of this 'I can fight' crap. I don't care how big and strong and tough you think you are, if someone tells you to get out of the way, you get out of the way. Otherwise, you're going to end up getting someone killed. Am I understood?"

Funny! Geckosprout's tactfulness would've disarmed Ember (it kept her ego in tact) - but he wasn't the only one with an opinion to share. Ember liked Berryburr. She really did. Emberpaw liked her vibrant presence, sweeping confidence and practical hardworking outlook. She might have enjoyed the molly's sharp tongue, too, but right now? Stars no. The calcio looked up at her patrol lead with no small amount of impudence, nearly bristling at the public correction.

"You said--" ow! Heat flooded Emberpaw as Berrypaw actually boxed her ears and-- could a warrior just DO that? Ember didn't know if Geckosprout or Thistlethorn saw; she hoped they missed it, but that was a far-fetched wish. Humiliating! Blotched fur rose along her spine as the calico gave in to impulsivity, tongue acting before her brain did: "What if there was a badger and you were the one in trouble? Or even if there's not a badger -- how am I ever going to learn if not claws-on?" Her challenge hung in the air between them (which went from teasing to electric in .03 seconds.)

with berryburr's orders, geckosprout gave a short nod and continued refreshing the border marks. every so often his ears gave a small twitch at emberpaw and berryburr's little squabble.

Thistlethorn had followed along, finishing with refreshing the border marks, when he heard Emberpaw's arguing and sighed quietly. "While there's no badger now, if there was one, I've no doubt it appreciate the bite size morsel you'd serve as before giving the rest of us a hard time," the dark gray and white tabby said, the long healed scar on his shoulder stinging dully as he made his way back to the group. "There's no reason to bring about more injuries if we can prevent them in the case of a badger or something else."

The warrior paused to let Thistlethorn share his piece, giving a sharp nod as if to agree with him when he had finished, before jumping back into her lecture, "You'll learn through training - fights organized and supervised where nobody is liable to get hurt when you slip up. If you want to learn anything, you'll start doing what you're told."

And just like that, her mood once again shifted and softened. Unless Emberpaw had any more smart remarks to share, Berryburr had said what she needed to. Further corrections could be dealt with by whoever her mentor was.

"Now, if we're all done here - let's get on back to camp. No point in hanging about waiting for some fishbreaths to show up."

"Oh joy - he speaks," Ember muttered, looking from Berryburr to Thistlethorn. Addressing them both, she asked, "Why are you so sure I'd end up a meal? What makes you think I haven't been trained?"

Those assumptions pissed her off! ...they were absolutely correct but that was beside the point. Tail coiled, Ember threw one last salty glance over the border and then at that lonely, stinking log. Berry's tone came with finality Ember sensed wasn't up for debate. She sighed instead of pushing it more because their points were valid and this was a losing battle she didn't feel like it -- ears burning.

"Fine." Time to head back. The calico pivoted in the direction of camp, padding off without waiting for her patrol mates.

the border marks being finally refreshed and no more scolding, geckosprouts heterochromatic gaze watched emberpaw hurry off back towards camp. his tail gave a short, slow sway. "apprentices," he sighed, tone light hearted before he also decided to start padding off the way back to camp.

Thistlethorn ignored Emberpaw's little remark and said nothing, opting to stay quiet as he had already said what he believed what needed to be said. He merely shrugged before following the apprentice to camp.

Frostfeather lead her apprentice towards the Thunderclan. The landscape was changing once again. Unlike the Shadowclan and river clan border with its darkness and earthy neutral colors this border seemed over saturated by comparison. The grass on the other territory seemed brighter and the ground was dry unlike the wet marshes of Riverclan. Oak trees were dotted on the other side of the border, shrubs and stumps and rocks could also be seen. This was the true forest in front of them.

Frostfeather once again brought her apprentice about a foxtail away from the border and sat down, glancing to make sure a Thunderclan patrol wasn’t on the way. After making sure there wasn’t anyone around them she took a big breath of relief. With the current tensions she was sure Thunderclan cats wouldn’t like them sitting at their borders; they would probably accuse them of spying.

“Alright this is the Thunderclan Riverclan border,” she stated and she wrapped her tail around her paws.

“Take a guess what you think Thunderclan strong suits are based on their territory. If your feeling confident try to guess their special fighting techniques.”

Frostfeather almost didn’t hear Amberpaw as her eyes were stuck on a movement in the ferns across the border. To her relief a squirrel darted out and scampered away. Trying to keep her cool she gave her chest a few calming licks as she hummed her approval.

“Exactly, Thunderclan cats are called squirrels for a reason. They use a special technique for their fighting. They act like squirrels by climbing trees and then dropping down onto their opponents back. They use the element of surprise most frequently as their territory allows them to hide in all the cracks and crevices. What do you think we do to avoid falling into their traps?”

Small tail flicking, head up, a calico tom slipped to the ThunderClan border and stared across.
“I wonder if Pinepaw is okay over there?” He muttered to himself, as he hadn’t seen his sister in moons, he didn’t know what was going on with her, much less if she had gotten her Warrior name.
He hopped on a sunny rock and lay with his head over crossed paws, he sighed.
A fly buzzed at Hawthornmist’s ear and he flicked it off.
His eyes half-closed, Hawthornmist stared into the forest, thinking of what his life would be like if he had gone with his sister to ThunderClan, to live with his father.
“Has Pinepaw even found out who he is?” He murmured, “ThunderClan is pretty large...”
He sighed once more, and let his eyes shut.

For Willowfern (Hawthornmist)

Looking across the horizon and at the drowning sun, Whitewolf realized she was almost out of time to finish her solo patrol. She preferred to visit the RiverClan border alone because of...well, what had happened when Albatrossflare was with her last time. That memory still haunted her, and she wouldn't blame RiverClan if it was all they could think about, either.

At the border she spotted a single RiverClan cat. This one must've been quite young; Whitewolf didn't recognize him at all. But she didn't ask him who he was. That wasn't any of her business unless he made it, after all, so instead she took a seat across the border to show him she wasn't a threat.

"I'm Whitewolf of ThunderClan," she said. "I've come in peace to mark our side of the border. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Frostfeather let put an amused purr.

“That would work if Thunderclan wasn’t in the forest but unfortunately it is. The best way is to work in teams. In moments when we enter their territory to attack we have a group of cats go first and then another patrol stalk them more carefully through the undergrowth. In the case that a Thunderclan warrior would drop down from the trees on the first patrol, the second patrol would jump out and knock them off. We fight surprise with surprise. That and making sure we scan the trees and try to race towards their camp fast as possible so we are too fast of targets for them to drop onto.”

Flicking her tail she looked back towards the territory.

“These are proud cats as well and in my experience, more friendly then our border mates. I can introduce you to a few cats at the next gathering.”

Giving one quick glance at the territory behind them, Frostfeather turned and began padding back to camp.

They had stayed a bit too long at the border for her liking, she had been worried the whole time some Thunderclan warrior would challenge them.

From Amberpaw’s last experience with another clan warrior she wasn’t too confident that the apprentice would be able to handle any fights just yet.

As he led the patrol out of camp and on the familiar path that snaked towards Smallpines - something that Kestrelstar had been considering renaming in honor of the cats who had died her - he fell into step beside Stormtalon. The fact that there was good news and bad news didn't affect him as much as it should've. Call it a break in the mind, but lately Kestrelstar had been wound so tight that finally... things just didn't matter as much anymore. It was almost like he was walking on clouds, light and airy, detached from everything going on.

"Start with the bad news, let's get that out of the way first," the leader finally decided, glancing over his shoulder to make sure Rootgaze and Hawkwhisker were following. The border was approaching, and the gray tabby veered off with he intent to keep Stormtalon near him as he started to mark along the streambed that separated RiverClan from ThunderClan territory.

Rootgaze had been avoiding the territory closest to ThunderClan recently, not because she was cowardly but because it was just generally upsetting. Even the wind seemed to understand the tension because it didn't blow through the woody area and left the air stale, a stark difference from the slight sea breeze she was used to feeling on her fur, the only thing these trees were good for was blocking the sun.

She respectfully followed behind as to let Kestrelstar have a proper conversation with Stormtalon, instead, focusing on the grumpy young tom she padded next to. The tortoiseshell was glad Hawkwhisker seemed eager to fight for the clan but he should know not to be the start of anything. "It's good you're prepared but don't be so quick to strike. We're not in the wrong here, ThunderClan is, so we aren't going to sink to their level and attack willy-nilly." Rootgaze spoke in a low enough tone that she wouldn't interrupt her leader's chat, offering Hawkwhisker a stern gaze.

Though mostly unsure about how Whitewolf felt toward forging relationships with RiverClan cats, she'd continue to speak with the other Clans the way she always had. If one cat was willing to show her politeness and respect then they clearly didn't reflect the pugnaciousness that his anger-consumed collective possessed.

"Politeness is the minimum, Hawthornmist," she told him with her head quizzically tilted. This cat must not have been to any gatherings; Whitewolf swore she'd never seen him before. "Until blood starts to fly."

From her seated position, Whitewolf examined his diluted pelt. A calico. Was this the cat who'd threatened Berrykit's life? No--he couldn't be. Even though his appearance matched her description, he seemed too docile to commit such a heinous crime.

“Understandable,” He said, “Though, I always find that despite the tension between our two clans, I will always try to be civil with those of ThunderClan.” My sister’s clan. He finished silently.
“I rarely go to Gatherings, but I know enough of what’s going on, though I don’t grudge you for it,” He said, “I am, of course, loyal to my clan, loyal enough to give my life if I had to... but I don’t see why we always have to hate someone... hating ShadowClan I understand, but I never have found need for a quarrel with ThunderClan.”
StarClan, of course he wouldn’t! ThunderClan was his sister’s clan! He would fight against ThunderClan if the time came, he would injure others for the victory of RiverClan, but he would never despise ThunderClan as his clanmates did now, as his sister was there... and maybe his parents too.

Stormtalon’s eyes traced the familiar winding trail leading to Smallpines before his paws did. They made the trek so many times he could rely on muscle memory if need be, so his mind wandered. Judging by body language and tone of voice, Kestrel’s attitude regarding Vinepaw seemed pumped of indifference and the warrior didn’t blame him; what was the addition of a feather to a feline who carried the weight of imminent war on his shoulders? Perhaps even less than a six-legged nuisance buzzing about his ears. Inconsequential.

Tail swished to one side, Storm marked the border where Kestrel did not, falling into a casual rhythm with him that would make short work of this patrol. The lifelessness of the area brought with it an oppressive air and Stormtalon didn't want to tarry here longer than was efficient. “I'm not sure any kind of demotion would put a dent in her attitude. The definition of ‘respect’ eludes Vinepaw. She's impudent, thoughtless -- a child.” Uncensored facts. All of them. Stormtalon delivered the sentences as he worked, flippant as ever, adding under his breath: “Unfortunately being an idiot isn’t a crime against RiverClan…” Else Blizzardsky and Jackdawblaze would be long gone.

Now for the good news. “Still, she's capable. She followed instructions and even showed some initiative by volunteering to fortify the camp without me telling her; we worked side by side. I’ve given her menial tasks such as changing out elder’s moss and she completed them, too.” Kestrel could do what he wanted with that information, Stormtalon didn't care one way or another. So long as he didn't extend the tabby's babysitting duties everything would be fine.

One ear was trained to Stormtalon to receive the latest word on Vinepaw's "progression" while one belonged to the watch of threats; evaluating different sounds and either writing them off as scrambling prey in the undergrowth, or something Kestrelstar would need to worry about. Thankfully, none of the latter seemed present, so he continued to go about the marking of the border, offering just a grunt in response to his companion.

"Then she'll stay an apprentice for as long as it takes for the attitude to go away," the leader muttered, really not caring if she stayed at that rank until she was of the age to retire in the Elders' den. His Clanmates would learn one way or another; they didn't have to like him - starts, sometimes he didn't even like himself - but the blatant show of disrespect would not be tolerated. "It's good that she's following through on her duties, but the attitude is what... concerns me. I know it's no crime, but," he paused to mark the border, continuing with, "I have no qualms about excusing her from being apart of RiverClan if she chooses to not contribute to the Clan as a whole."

Was it a rather harsh punishment? Sure. Did Kestrelstar really care, though? Absolutely not. If a cat was dragging RiverClan down, causing dead weight in the carriage barreling towards strength and growth, the leader would be the one to kick out the rotten part himself. Cut it off and sever ties; if Vinepaw wanted to have an attitude worse than any he'd seen - including Blizzardsky - than she could do it outside of RiverClan's territory.

Head snapping over his shoulder at Rootgaze and Hawkwhisker, he called, "Make sure to get all along this border. I want the scent markers twice as strong, so that those fox-hearts know where the border is, distinctly." Kestrelstar gave a nod to the other two warriors of the patrol before glancing at Stormtalon once more. "I don't expect you to look after her anymore, I know that's not in your duty, and besides I think it's about time you got another apprentice. I reassigned you Mistpaw, and you haven't failed me there. At the next ceremony, I'd like you front and center, ready to become Mistykit's mentor." There wasn't much else Kestrelstar added to that as the leader then moved on to finish marking his section of the border.

But beyond that, Frostpaw was clueless. “How’s this?” She asked, mostly just to get Wormbite’s praise. She knew it was perfect.

Aspenstrike noticed she was close to the border. Probably too close. She'd better back away... but those fish-faces deserved a little mix-up. No, she didn't want to make things worse... Glancing up, she saw a RiverClan cat. Oh, wonderful. Fluffing up her fur, she curled her lip and stepped back, claws out. This cat didn't look right, like a psycho type. Fuuun. Realizing that being polite would get her farther than downright hostile, she straightened up to her full height and flattened her fur. "Apologies, you startled me." She said, dipping her head in welcome but not in respect- why should she respect this fish?

~Lionspot didn't care for the respect she needed blood whether that she-cat would die or not.~ You better leave before you get hurt. ~she said in an emotionless tone. She didn't like emotion it showed weakness. She kept the emotionless look as she watched the she-cat. They had a deathwish for sure. But she didn't like kestrelstar so she gave them a chance to leave. Defying the leaders wishes.~

"Excuse me?" Aspenstrike said, narrowing her eyes. She wasn't scared, these RiverClan cats needed to know she could be pushed around. Her tone was cool and threatening as she continued. "I'm not scared of you, I could take you." Stars, it was like talking with a rock! She noticed how emotionless this cat was with a disdainful flick of her ear. Like the cat she used to be/

Or that's what she liked to call herself.~ Hahahahahahahaha.~she laughed. This is the one time she felt true happiness. This was the first time she really captured emotions. Lionspot was flustered. Her impulse screamed death. And she followed she needed happiness and this cat gave it too her. Now all she needed was blood. She pounced up hopefully pinning the thunderclan warrior under her.~

For Willowfern (Hawthornmist)

Whitewolf took the time to listen to him, mulling over his words for a moment. Hating entire Clans didn't make much sense to her but she certainly made an effort to understand where RiverClan was coming from in all of this. If anyone was wrong, it was ThunderClan; undisciplined, unruly ThunderClan, and the more Whitewolf saw that the more she hated herself and distrusted her leadership.

"I think hatred is too strong a word for any of this," she commented slowly. "Yet I still don't blame Kestrelstar for hating ThunderClan. The things I have seen my clanmates do are.." She took a deep breath, trailing off before adding, "Heinous.

It makes sense to hate Dawnstar. She's a Code-breaker and behaves like a tyrant. But at least she has ShadowClan together and that's better than we're doing."

“I agree,” He meowed, “Though I hate to admit it, Dawnstar does have everything together, but her cats are blindly following her in fear of what she might do to them if not...” He tried to stop the nagging feeling that that was what RiverClan might come to if Kestrelstar went too off the edge,
“Yes, ThunderClan has been acting... unlawful, and Eveningstar needs to get his act together or risk a full-on unauthorized attack, though, there are a few lawful cats still left, you included, I hope,” He chuckled nervously, “And maybe...” He blinked, should he tell her about Pinepaw? No... that wasn’t relevant.

(also, should this be before or after Kes sent out his murder decree? Not like Hawth would try to hurt her, just wondering)

Frostpaw crouched low, exactly how she had seen other apprentices do it when she was a young kit. She had been practicing it since she had been very young, and thought she was more or less pro. But beyond that, Frostpaw was clueless. “How’s this?” She asked, mostly just to get Wormbite’s praise. She knew it was perfect.

Wormbite step forward, his tail brushing along Frostpaw's legs and back. He felt how far apart they were and such. He pulled back once he was satisficed with his overview. Then he lift his paw and gave her a harsh push to see if she would topple. "Your legs are too far apart which leaves you open to being unbalance. Adjust your tail to be straighter, " Wormbite pointed out, it wasn't bad. Definitely better than some.

Once Frostpaw adjusted her stance Wormbite gave her a nod. "Now walk and pounce, "

Reedpaw sat at the border between RiverClan and ThunderClan, pelt stressed and ears pinned back. At this point, he had little hope in changing Kestrelst- no, Kestrelwing's- mind, but he couldn't just sit around, waiting for corpses to pile up to satisfy the cat's bloodlust! So, he had snuck out to the border, hoping to find a cat to warn. And he had to be sneaky. If another cat, especially Kestrelwing, found them, he'd kill both- Reedpaw didn't doubt it. So, he waited anxiously, hoping for a ThunderClan cat to arrive.

So when he came across a RiverClan apprentice sitting right on the border, his fur bristled and he marched over. "Hey, he growled. "What do you think you're doing, standing on the border like that? Are you invading?" He sniffed the air, sure that there were more RiverCLan warriors waiting to attack out of sight. Kyrieknight

Frostpaw had been momentarily surprised when Wormbite went and brushed her and pushed, nearly making her fall. What was his problem? Then she was equally surprised - if not more - when he pointed out the things she was doing wrong. Doing. Wrong. How could that be. Her stance was flawless.

She was so surprised, and a little embarrassed, which she would never admit, she didn’t,t walk and pounce. Instead, she blurted, a bit randomly, “Are you blind?”

A half-ear flicked toward the sound of Kestrelstar’s muttering, indicating he listened, but Stormtalon said nothing. He just marked the borders with quiet efficiency and kept any musing thoughts to himself.

It intrigued him how Kestrel fixated on Vinepaw’s disrespect rather than her competence. Out of every punishment Storm thought the wayward apprentice might earn herself, exile had been low on the list of likely scenarios (though it was only thrown out as a possibility). Kestrel’s reasoning behind it, well—Stormtalon couldn’t dismiss that Vinepaw embarrassed RiverClan once before and given the opportunity, she could do it again. She shamed her clan every time that stars-damned tongue of hers formed sentences (in Storm's opinion).

However. In the end it fell upon Kestrelstar to decide what RiverClan would and wouldn’t tolerate; Storm might not align with each of his calls, but he agreed with the majority of them, and really…the warrior preferred not to concern himself with such things overall.

As he worked, Stormtalon’s shoulder blades rolled under silver-black fur in tandem with the balanced, powerful rhythm of his stride—the body language of a cat uninterested in proving himself, every pawstep self-assured. On a whim he added: “I asked Palepaw to help me keep an eye on her.” Storm didn’t explain why as the strategy was obvious enough. As promised he would give Pale the recognition she earned…someone more deserving of warriorhood than little Vinepaw. “She did well.”

Instead of dawdling when Storm finished his side, the charcoal tabby moved to join Rootgaze and the hot head, meaning to help them do the same. He only looked up when Kestrelstar graciously released him from his Vine-shaped manacles. Thank stars.

Awarding him a second apprentice was…unexpected, but not bad. Mistypaw. Storm's expression softened in the smallest of ways. With some amount of fondness, Stormtalon recalled a time they told stories to each other in the clearing while the sun beat down overhead; he enjoyed the kit's intriguing responses to questions, reminded so much of his own little brother. He nodded before resuming their task.

Storm was vaguely aware of Hawkwhisker’s growling and snarling at the border—how…helpful—but otherwise didn’t notice anything beyond the stillness pressing in, choking him from all sides. Did the others feel it too? Perhaps that was all in his head.

He supposed it was easy to miss if you weren't looking for it. Not to mention he still could perceive light and color for now which gave him a slight advantage.

"..Are you going to do it or not?" He questioned in reference to his previous directions. He needed to be able to hear how Frostpaw carried herself -- whether or not she could land decently.

;Hawkwhisker;

The tom finished marking the border, stepping back, his face a mixture of anger at ThunderClan and mild delight. Lashing his tail, he turned back towards the others.

He wouldn't ask when they would get back to Camp. That was Kestrelstar's job: Kestrelstar was the Leader, after all. But it had better get wrapped up quickly, Hawkwhisker thought bitterly. I don't want to stay out all night.

He kept his thoughts to himself, though.

Jaynose slinked through the bushes near the border between ThunderClan and RiverClan. Even now, her resolve was starting to waver. What if the ThunderClanners really were killing my Clanmates? she thought. That would make this wrong, wouldn’t it?
But be that as it may, she was here now to stop a war. She sniffed for any signs of her own Clanmates, and finding none, she sat down in the open. Jaynose tried to make herself relaxed and non-threatening for the next ThunderClan cat who came toward her.

Thistlethorn was out on a walk, having just finished a training lesson with Mistypaw. He was hoping for a quiet walk when he caught smell of... a RiverClan warrior! Eyes narrowed and pelt prickled, he stalked into a bush to scope out. Only one warrior? Strange that she would be alone, but his eyes and nose never lied. Still wary, the dark gray and white tabby tom walked out, eyes cold and narrow. "What are you doing at the border?" He asked coolly, wanting answers but not a fight.

[RIVERCLAN, READ BEFORE APPROACHING: this ThunderClan patrol is not open to hostile encounters--it is peaceful in nature and the Warriors involved will do anything they can to avoid conflict]

For Willowfern (Pinewatch)

After her other patrols had taken off, Whitewolf headed in the direction of Smallpines. She knew for the border between ThunderClan and RiverClan to remain clear that ThunderClan would have to keep marking it. But that was risky business considering current events, besides, after Thunderchaser's address to the Clan many of its members' emotions seemed to increase in fragility for the time being.

Whitewolf was not at her most level-headed given everything that had happened lately. Eveningstar had yet to hear her out, ThunderClan wasn't anything close to uniform in thought, and Code-breakers were getting away with their foul deeds still. The senior Warrior was starting to blame RiverClan less and less...to blame Kestrelstar less, too, even though he'd tried to take her life.

"We're here. Let's be quick about this, Pinewatch. Thank you for coming."

Whitewolf couldn't remember. She'd spent the day watching over her kits--most of whom should have been Apprentices by now--helping Thunderchaser with her situation, speaking with Eveningstar, and assigning patrols. That was a lot to do and the sun still wasn't quite high in the sky yet. Luckily, Whitewolf had help from other cats who cared dearly about ThunderClan and Pinewatch was one of those cats. It was good that she wasn't alone.

"Nothing you couldn't handle hearing, I imagine," said Whitewolf as she went to mark the border.

Suddenly, her legs felt weak and her eyes clouded with darkness. A black fuzziness shrouded her body in helplessness as memories at Smallpines plagued her mind--her meeting with Kestrelstar and Starlingflight--Petinuaflame's death at Albatrossflare's paws. Each limb giving way to Whitewolf's indomitable weight, she collapsed by the border and slipped into unconsciousness.

Whipping her head around to look back at Whitewolf, she let out a gasp,

Dashing over to the fallen Warrior, she licked frantically at her ears trying to get her to open her eyes, speak, twitch an ear, anything!
After a quick check of Whitewolf’s pulse (which was difficult to do as her body was covered by a bunch of matted, fluffy fur), she breathed a tiny bit easier seeing as Whitewolf was not dead, just passed out, thank StarClan.
She had to get Whitewolf to Iciclepaw... but how?! Whitewolf was much bigger than she, and indefinitely much heavier.

Yes, yes, go back to camp, get help, return and carry Whitewolf home-
Wait.
No, she couldn’t leave Whitewolf at the border with so many RiverClan cats out for revenge...
but she had too...
Blood roared in her ears, Pinewatch had to decide what to do quickly if she was going to help Whitewolf.
“Hang in there, friend,” She mumbled, licking Whitewolf’s ears, ”I’m going to get help, I’ll be back soon.”
With that, she dashed off towards camp, praying to StarClan to keep her friend safe until she returned.

"..Are you going to do it or not?" He questioned in reference to his previous directions. He needed to be able to hear how Frostpaw carried herself -- whether or not she could land decently.

Frostpaw rolled her eyes. But she began to walk, still in her crouch. A few tail-lengths of walking, and then she pounced, aiming for a fallen stick. She landed in the middle of it, and felt triumph run through her. She looked up and back at Wormbite. "Well?" She asked. "Was that to your expectations?"

“Thunderchaser, Pinewatch,” Hemlockheart said, taking control, as he was the largest here, “I’ll grab her scruff, you two try to lift her under her legs, you hear me? We have to get her to Iciclepaw as soon as possible, every second may count, as we don’t know the cause of her sudden collapse.”
Pinewatch nodded and got up under her front leg, worry and fright giving her additional stamina.

The ThunderClanner seemed on edge, which made sense. ”I’ve come to stop a war,” she said, fighting to keep her voice steady. She swallowed, No backing out, now.
”Kestrelstar has… changed. Or maybe he was always bloodthirsty, and we never realized. He is planning a full-scale attack to avenge the cats that ThunderClan… may have killed…” she hesitated on the last few words, not wanting them to sound like a false accusation.

Thistlethorn's ear twitched. Ah, so he was right. Then again, it was hard for that cat to hide his bloodlust at this point. He was about the question the warrior when he realized she had nothing to gain from this. In fact, she had everything to lose if someone spotted her here. That, combined with the fact she was aware of this and came to the border regardless gained his respect. "I see. I will report this to Eveningstar," he answered, tilting his head. "Though, I must ask: why are you doing this? To stop a war at the risk of many things... Bold and respectable, yet reckless to others. Why?"

Jaynose looked from left to right, checking once again to make sure her Clanmates weren’t there. ”I… I’m not sure. There are quite a few punishments that Kestrelstar has enforced.” She remembered Vinepaw being demoted back to an apprentice, but that wasn’t even for disloyalty. ”I could be demoted… but there’s also the chance I get… exiled,” the word was hard to say. Thoughts of punishments actually brought up a question that she had in her mind.
”Er… if you don’t mind my asking, what happened to the cats who killed the RiverClanners? It’s not going to affect anything - unless of course they aren’t to blame for the deaths, in which case Kestrelstar is starting a war over nothing.”

Webpaw was frankly surprised the kit-like warrior agreed with her, she wasn’t going to mention she had absolutely no battle training, no way. She paused for a minute trying to decide where Thunderclanners would go,” Probably near their border, we wouldn’t let them get that far across the border…do we kill Eveningstar if we see him? He is a Thunderclanner, but he’s also the clan leader.” she added even though she liked the idea of killing that rat she didn’t know why she wanted to kill Eveningstar but some reason that idea was appealing to her.

[sorry I got distracted and forgot I hadn't replied to this!]

The scent of ThunderClan's border markers made her sick, all she could associate with the smell was death. At least all the scent seemed to be on the correct side of the border, though that fact didn't stop the bile rising in her throat.

She didn't need Kestrelstar telling her to cover the border in her own scent markers, as the group continued they drowned out the scent of ThunderClan's. The tortoiseshell wanted to get this done quickly but didn't want to skimp on the job, otherwise, their rival clan might not get the idea.

Rootgaze glanced at the grumbling Hawkwhisker, she could feel his impatience, she might not be the only one that hated this border. "If ThunderClan crosses this border they'd have to be pretty mouse-brained!" The warrior commented, glancing towards her leader.

It seemed as though the border patrol was wrapping up, with it being freshly remarked. Kestrelstar didn't want to linger - as much as he wanted to sink his claws into the pelts of the traitorous fox-hearts across the border, he could feel himself slipping. His mind was giving into the dark shadowy claws of Blossomclaw and her training...

"Let's head back. This should be good enough to let those squirrels know to not cross." With a curt nod, the leader led the patrol back to camp.

He opened his mouth, scenting the air to see if there was any nearby prey. Considering he supposed he was already .. teaching Frostpaw which Wormbite wasn't so sure how this happened. One moment he was bored and now he was .. yeah. There was a mouse nearby at least.

Snowyspot was taking a quick walk. No a hunting trip, no walks were allowed without bringing prey home,, (well at least that’s what it seemed like) so what’s the point of even calling it a walk??? And why would a walk be this far?? He continued to venture onwards.

Whitewolf already knew she was the patrol's supervising party, although Sweetsong didn't seem incompetent...and for whatever it was worth she'd mentored Yarrowshade herself. Hopefully her former Apprentice could bridle any impulsive urges being near the RiverClan border might bring about. Either way, this was bound to be interesting, but Whitewolf didn't like that one bit.

She had collapsed the last time she'd patrolled Smallpines. Hopefully, if this one was successful, ThunderClan would forget her mistake. It was so foolish of her to trust one cat around the border and then betray herself by slipping into unconsciousness; if everyone knew, Whitewolf was aware some of her clanmates were keen to label her a hypocrite.

As she began marking the borders, her eyes fixed across the grass and into the forest where RiverClan lived. She would not slip up again.

Curious eyes observed their surroundings as the patrol neared the river. Sweetsong was in tune with the environment, aware of how ..strangely quiet the forest seemed the closer they came to their destination. Not a bird chirped, the woods were quiet. Almost unnerving.

It soon became clear why: the wind changed direction, and the stench of blood washed over him. It was no surprise to see Leafwind make a mad dash away from the patrol in pursuit of the scent, and he was quick to follow - fur along his back bristling. A trail of blood was visible from the bank, starting from brush and ending at the water's edge. And beyond the bushes..

Sweetsong was no stranger to death, the sight of a body did little to faze him. He was fascinated by the brutality of this kill: Eveningstar had been ripped up, his body decorated with several lacerations that shredded his sides, stomach, and throat. Even his ears weren't safe, a tattered mess of what they once were. The blood that pooled around him had already soaked into the dirt but was not yet dried, leading him to believe the kill was fairly recent despite the fading scent of RiverClan in the air. Why Eveningstar had kept away from the Clan, Sweetsong didn't know. It didn't matter.

What did was they had a mess on their paws. "Well, dung." He wasn't sympathetic toward the fallen tom in the slightest, more concerned with where to go from here. The body was shredded enough that he didn't want kits to see it, Eveningstar reeked of RiverClan and the Clan was already on edge. This would just escalate matters with Stormfang and he wasn't sure Icicleripple was ready to deal with that if Stormfang rallied cats to assault RiverClan. "... Yarrowshade was surprised at the sight. Not horrified though, she liked murder, murder was fun. There was an unmistakable scent of RiverClan. Wow, good job, very nice kill. What Yarrowshade was really focused on were the million possibilities stretched out before her. Her and her patrol were the ones that got to tell the story of what they've seen. Eveningmist.

When she approached his corpse--hardened and bloated from sitting out for a little while, no doubt--others probably expected her to feel remorse or sadness. He was a young Leader, after all. But the truth was that none of that mattered to her.

Eveningmist was incompetent and now he was dead. He couldn't even make time to grant his clanmates Apprentice ceremonies; why would ThunderClan make time for his funeral? He didn't deserve one--Eveningmist was a traitor--a traitor who handled the burden of leadership so poorly that he had lost all nine of his shiny new lives.

"It smells like RiverClan," she remarked casually, unfazed by the condition of the corpse. She had seen far worse in her time and was thankful Sweetsong, Leafwind, and Yarrowshade weren't keeled over hurling. Well...she definitely didn't expect that kind of behavior from Yarrowshade anyhow.

"We should leave it here and inform Icicleripple," Whitewolf said with an uncaring but somewhat angry flick of her ear. "It's her decision what to do with it. No one should see it unless she wants the Clan to."

Were it Whitewolf's decision, she'd report Eveningmist dead so the Clan knew but would leave his corpse to the crows. She didn't care that he'd been a loyal Warrior; he never should have been appointed ThunderClan's Deputy. He and Buckstar made so many ill-informed and impulsive decisions together and when it came time for Eveningmist to take the mantle he failed ThunderClan.

The cat who'd struck him down might've thought they were doing ThunderClan a disservice. But the truth was that her clanmates were better off now.

"We didn't come here to mark the border in the first place." Sweetsong had established back in camp that wasn't the goal of this patrol. It was a check up to make sure everything remained in order .. after the Clan meeting, he figured one had been needed with Stormfang's desire to launch an attack and RiverClan being so on edge.

In a way, it was a relief to know his paranoia wasn't unfounded. "We're not bringing a mutilated corpse back to camp. The Clan's already split on what to do with RiverClan-- storming into the place with our beloved missing leader reeking and gutted like a fish is going to make the situation worse for everyone." He wasn't against leaving the body here for Icicleripple, he kind of wanted to dump it in some swamp and call it a day, but he recognized that probably wasn't a popular choice with the patrol. Great.

The issue he foresaw with leaving the body unattended however, stemmed from the chance of another cat finding the remains and panicking. There were four cats on this patrol .. "Whitewolf, Yarrowshade, go back to camp and get Icicleripple. Leafwind and I will remain here in case a Clan-mate decides to stumble by. The last thing we need is a cat freaking out and running back to camp screaming murder." That was Icicleripple's job, as far as he was concerned.

Perhaps while those two were away, they could work on some hunting while they body sit. It'd be a good way to pass the time and might be good for the fresh-kill pile.. he wasn't sure the last time he'd seen it full. "Leafwind, there's no point in us standing around. We should hunt close by, keep an eye near the body, catch whatever we can before they return." They'd likely smell someone before they got too near, and worse case scenario Sweetsong could sit on anyone who came by and caused a scene.

Yarrowshade was about to object. They were already here, why not mark the border?!
"You're already here, instead of sitting around marking it would be more productive! But whatever, at least hunting will bring on some prey." she scoffed. She did want to see Icicleripple though. Only complain was that Whitewolf had to come with her. Holding the power alone of what Icicleripple heard first about the incident was an opportunity too good to miss. She knew perfectly that Whitewolf probably had her own agenda and wouldn't fudge the information the way Yarrowshade would have.
"I can go, one cat is more than enough. But I guess Whitewolf can come, since she always insists on being involved." she said bitterly and turned away.

➸ cornpaw

riverclan was EVIL. ALL OF THEM!

cornpaw had seen what those riverbutts had done to the thunderbuddies and it was UNACCEPTABLE! he wasn't affected by the deaths, or injured, or felt the same fear his clanmates did - but still!! riverclan was bad, evil, horrid..all of those things. so, he had to get revenge for thunderclan, for his HOME. and so, he came up with a plan, a very good plan. (maybe, even the best plan he's come up with so far, in his whole life.)

when he was still in camp, he had stuffed moss between his paw pads - having visited the border early morning and seeing the seashells riverclanners had placed. (despicable!) and now, it was after sun-high and he was padding back the border, two large leaves that were containing something in his mouth.

walking over the seashells - which, honestly, combined with the moss sticking from in between his pads, was pretty uncomfy - setting the leaf bundle down. inside, there were tons of thorns! "REVENGE!" he yowled, voice all squeaky. he carefully grabbed a pawful of the thorns, dropping them on riverclans side of the border, spreading them out and positioning them so the sharp part was sticking up.

he grabbed another pawful, once again letting them spill onto the ground and spreading them out - only to run out of thorns when he was a bit over half way to being done lining the border. "oh..darnit." he frowned, looking around and deciding a decent sized stick would do. bouncing over the shells and picking one end of the stick with his mouth, he carried it over and placed it on the end of the border that was missing thorns.

HAH! best prank EVER. riverclan would regret even being a clan once they stepped on all the thorns he placed. "YOU SUCK, RIVERBUTTS!!" and with that, cornpaw turned around and ran off back to camp. he couldn't be caught!!

Webpaw gave a yowl as the Thunderclanner began wacking at her. She yowled to Spiderstorm,” Aren’t ya gonna give me a hand in this!” she called as she got knocked around a bit by the cat aimlessly swatting back at the cat, hoping to beat him up. She wasn’t about to admit she had no battle training. She just had to guess what was good believable battle moves she would know so she decided to try what was just a generic front paw strike, it wasn’t actually very impressive, but she sure thought it was. Assuming it hit.

It's not right... she mumbled before raising her head and shouted Shadowfire? in a question voice... but there was no response... She carefully took a step towards the smell and intended to follow it but stopped, the fur on her back bristling up in fear. Lilyfrost swallowed again and glanced back at Jaynose, she wanted to know what caused the scent... I think... but the terror that sprung in side her at the thought was too mush. Can you? she whispered to the other warrior.

Lilyfrosts heart was beating faster then a mouses as she watched Jaynose flow the odd scent.
Something about this just gave her a bad taste in her mouth, something felt... wrong... She knew
she was probably overreacting about this... Shadowfire had probably just fallen asleep... and...
something else that had mixed with the scent...

Lilyfrost swallowed again and slowly took a step after Jaynose... then another... then a third...
and so on... she padded after her but made sure to always stay behind the other warrior.
If there was something there she didn't want to be the one to find it... though maybe it was a
little rude to let Jaynose do it instead? Lilyfrost glanced at her. Nah, she seem brave...

Jaynose padded forward carefully after the scent. She was only slightly aware of Lilyfrost and Amberpaw behind her. This was mostly due to the fear scent wafting over from the warrior. Lilyfrost had a right to be nervous. Jaynose just hoped that the warrior’s fear wouldn’t stop her from helping if they ran into trouble.
Shadowfire's scent was getting stronger. Jaynose sped up a little, skirted around a tree, and found…
The dead body of her clanmate.

[open to some tc cats for a tussle or convo]

Blizzardwind stalked through the forest, muttering to himself. Stupid cats, he couldn't understand why no one had a brain these days. His nose twitched as he neared the border, and he almost doubled back, not wanting to be caught too close, when he stopped himself from leaving, or advancing.

What was he afraid of? Dumbasses making trouble? He could deal with them. Turning slightly to be pacing a fox-length away from the border, his slate blue eyes scanned the forest. Thoughts danced around in his mind, and his jaws parted slightly to breathe in the familiar scent of RiverClan and the triggering scent of ThunderClan. If they wanted a fight, they could have one. Then why did it feel so wrong?

Maybe he didn't want cats to be hurt because of him. No, these cats deserved to be hurt. Right?

The old cat paused, looking over his shoulder at the marshy land behind him. Why was everything so hard to decipher now? Were Kestrelstar's moronic orders to murder cats along the border actually still in place? He hadn't exactly said anything about a change, but his newfound mindset said otherwise.

Life was so confusing.

The tom narrowed his eyes. He'd have to lug some good-for-nothing cats along with him as he patrolled the border, leading them, mind you. They'll probably do nothing, and I'll do all the work. And one of them is an apprentice.

Reluctantly, he looked around. "Sootfang! Firepaw!" he snapped. Annoyed face, try that. I'm very busy and didn't want to be interrupted.

He spun around on his heals, not waiting for the two cats to catch up. If they had any sense in them, they would hurry up: the ThunderClan Border was an important place for them to hold, and they wouldn't like him to tell Splashleap they were slacking, would they now?

;Hawkwhisker;

The Warrior emerged by the Border. ThunderClan's reek was strongest here, disgusting and reminding him of the deaths they had caused to RiverClan. Hawkwhisker narrowed his eyes: there was no time for thinking about the enemy. They had to stay in the present, and they had to destroy ThunderClan. Scanning the surrounding ground, he let out a small growl. "Mark the border. I want this over quick and easy, hopefully without disturbance from the frog-hearts." He left the next words unspoken. And if they do disturb us, we will show no mercy. Hopefully the cats in his Patrol would understand.

He moved to a section of the border, marking it well. There would be no accidental crossing of borders by the time he was done. Each tree he marked. ThunderClan had to know that RiverClan wouldn't stand down. They would fight for the lives ThunderClan had taken from them, repaying the weaklings a thousand times over.

As he finished, he stepped back to survey his handywork, before opening his mouth to scent for dangers. The usual ThunderClan reek, and RiverClan's scent.. wait.

There was a scent of RiverClan's crossing over the border, some daredevil kit, frog-brained apprentice or determined warrior. Going right over the scent line. Where were they going? flashed through his mind, but he ignored the question he had asked, instead turning to his Patrol-mates.

"There's a RiverClan scent here, going over the border. Do you recognize it?" he meowed. It wasn't often he'd ask, but knowing if someone had crossed the border into enemy territory was a good thing to know. It would need to be reported to Kestrelstar.

The tom narrowed his eyes at the scent path. We can't follow the scent line: too risky. A step right into StarClan's paws. The other two would be knocked out straight away, with one of them being an Apprentice and the other being a useless imitation of a Warrior. No. We've just got to report it, WITHOUT getting killed by the angry mange-pelts that are ThunderClan.

"Don't follow it. It leads onto ThunderClan territory, and we don't want to go there." Yet.

"Go and mark the borders. I'll try and figure out the scent." Not that I think I'll get far, Hawkwhisker thought ruefully as he lowered his nose to the scent-line. Yarrowhsade led her patrol. She was in, frankly, a horrible mood. Whitewolf was back, she didn't get to be leader OR deputy and everything was looking down on her. She felt...ugh, normal. She was merciless to her patrol mates. If they didn't show up, it was their problem.
She reached the border. No RiverClan in sight. Yarrowshade didn't actually hate them, she wasn't the type to care about clan politics and none of them had offended her personally. She began to mark the border, not caring what the others did.

yarrowshade seemed like a big ol' meany - calling him an obnoxious child and hissing at him! he had little to no idea what that word even meant, but with the way she was using it, it wss probably a bad thing. well!! he would continue his antics - because if he didn't know what a word meant, it obviously did not apply to him.

following after yarrowshade with quick and bouncy steps, he looked behind him. "I don't think thunderchaser or woodheart are coming," he pointed out, breaking the silence as they arrived at the border, just..watching the warrior start to mark the borders. she was so QUIET.

oh! scrambling closer to the border, he looked down on riverclans side. "NOO!" he suddenly cried out, looking at the thorns..or, where the thorns used to be. it seemed they either got sucked up by riverclans gross territory, or someone had picked them up. either way, he was pretty sad. all that hard work for nothing!! "all the thorns are gone!!" he dramatically weeped, looking at the empty, gross side of riverclans territory before turning away and splitting off from yarrowshade, going in the opposite direction of her. how could he bear to notice all those lovely thorns that the riverbutts were supposed to step on were gone?? he'd just stick to the opposite end of the border and start refreshing the marks.

"Cornpaw? You done? We're probably late and it's definitely not my fault" she said angrily. The apprentice was an idiot for sure. She wished the other warriors were here, maybe then they'd have to deal with him. She'd ignored anything he said and dismissed it as nonesense.

Sunlight glittered through the trees as birdsong could be heard overhead. A gentle breeze stirred the resting undergrowth, the pattering of paws giving the forest floor life. Making her way gingerly across the territory was Briarfrost, a thoughtful gleam in her blue eyes.

The scenery was off, too peaceful following what had been such a volatile Gathering. She hadn't gone, but oh had she heard about it. And now, in the waking hours, Kestrelstar seemed to have vanished without word. Had ThunderClan gotten him? She recalled watching him retire to his den that night, but there had been no sign of him since. A strange occurrence really, for a cat that wanted to prove he had changed. Was running away from his Clan really the best way to establish that?

Not that it concerned her too much. She still went on with her warrior duties, having done a solo patrol at dawn and now out again for some light hunting. With no apprentice to teach, Briarfrost found that her days were rather free, rendering her the ability to shape them however she pleased. It could either have been a blessing or a curse, and the brown molly was unsure of which it was today.

As the border came into sight, an eerie feeling crept up under her fur, tickling her pelt like ants. No sign of movement appeared to be lingering near the border, but the unease Briarfrost felt told her she was being watched. Blue eyes peered to get a closer look, though as she expected no one revealed themselves. "I'm not crossing the border. I'm not breaking the code. You're just paranoid," she murmured to herself with a shake of her head. Turning, she continued along the stretch of the border, staying a tail-length away so as to not come off as aggressive.

She didn't know why she was walking to the RiverClan border. The chance of her getting worked up over something was higher with every pawstep she took closer to the border. But, she also knew, that RiverClan might be up to something, and if she had to, though it wasn't exactly ideal, she had 9 lives to spend protecting her Clan. She didn't exactly think that dying would be enjoyable, and it wasn't a plan, of course, but sometimes it just happened. Hopefully for good reasons. Aspenstar didn't know how the whole process worked. Did leaders just, die, then come back? What did dying feel like? It certainly wouldn't be comfortable, but how much pain would she have to go through?

And why was she thinking about this, still? Frowning slightly to herself, she shook out the thoughts, and continued forward. The fishy smell of RiverClan on the breeze made her hackles instinctively raise, and she quickened her pace. The scent was only this strong when a RiverClan cat was nearby, or if she shoved her face in the scent lines.

Sure enough, as the border came into view, and there, on the RiverClan side, was a brown molly. Lucky for that cat, she was on her own territory, an unnatural occurrence when it comes to RiverClan cats. Padding forward, wanting to look unhurried, and as comfortable as she could, and approached the border, stopping a couple fox-lengths away from the scent-lines. "Hello." Was all she could manage, voice firmly polite but certainly not friendly. This cat might be a horrible, rude cat like the rest of the Clan, but maybe she would be... actually bearable? Aspenstar wasn't sure how realistic that thought was. A RiverClan cat who wasn't infuriating? Did that even exist anymore?

It appeared her suspicions were confirmed; Briarfrost snapped her head up at the sound of a voice, though it was more out of curiosity than tension. Had this cat been watching her the whole time? Her pelt crawled at the thought, not itching for a fight but certainly ready for one if it occurred. After all, this border had a history of ThunderClan cats crossing it to attack as she recalled both the unknown warrior who had attacked Splashleap and the one who had killed Petuniaflame.

But Briarfrost was sure in her skills, in her training. And she was still on her side of the border - so the warrior code remained in tact as far as she was concerned.

"Greetings," she called back, giving a wave of her tail. Her voice was a bit more friendlier, as she didn't quite know this cat. Had she approached aggressively, it might've been a different story. After a moment though, it clicked. "...You're ThunderClan's new leader, aren't you?" she inquired, peering closer at the russet-furred molly. Aspenstar... in the flesh.

She didn't seem as angry as some of her Clanmates had described. Having not been at the Gathering though, Briarfrost couldn't be entirely sure.

This she-cat didn't seem too... hotheaded or hostile. And RiverClan cats were bad liars, hence the whole Gathering blow-up from that pesky medicine cat who had nothing to support his claims and denial with, so she was either a damn fine actor or legitimately a pleasant cat to be around. Aspenstar nodded. "Yes, I am." There wasn't much to say about that, because she certainly couldn't complain about the stress or pressure to a RiverClan cat, because these things were slippery little fish, and any slip up could involve more issues for ThunderClan.

Another way this cat didn't seem like a RiverClan warrior, she actually minded the border. Hm. Maybe she was talking to a WindClan cat instead, or something. [B]"... How's the.... fish.... swimming?" She couldn't ask how the prey was running, because fish didn't run. It would be weird if they did. Trying to make small talk with your enemy isn't easy, especially if they're being... pleasant.

A smile somehow wormed its way onto her stressed and bewildered features as she waited for Briarfrost's reply. Hoping that the warrior didn't think she was.... like... trying to trick her, because she wasn't. ThunderClan was better than manipulation, so Aspenstar had to be better than manipulation. It wasn't exactly her forte to begin with, anyways.

Ah, so this was the she-cat she had heard much about. Not necessarily a name - none of her Clanmates who had gone to the Gathering remember hearing one. "What is your name, if you don't mind me asking? No one who was at the Gathering seemed to know," Briarfrost chuckled, lighthearted and doing her best to keep the tension at bay. So far to her, there was no need for raise hackles or unsheathed claws. "My name is Briarfrost." the brown furred molly added as an afterthought; if she was asking for a name, it was only fair the ThunderClan leader knew hers.

Her head tipped to the side in thought as she pondered the question. "Pretty well, though I'm sure that won't be the case once leaf-fall saunters in, followed by its biting cousin leaf-bare. The rivers tend to freeze over at times," she replied in thought, glancing at the trickling stream that divided their territory. It was pretty shallow here, the scent markers strong from each Clan on either side.

Lifting her nose, she caught wind of a rather musty scent, and on ThunderClan's side of the border a tuft of a squirrel's tail poked out before it was gone again. Briarfrost stifled a mrrow of laughter. "I see it's running well for you," she commented with a warm glance.

A soft chuckle escaped her, and she relaxed slightly. ''Yes, I assumed not many cats would know me. I was never the most social cat when it came to the other Clans. I'm still not, but at this point, I'm required to talk with other Clans. My name is Aspenstar... It's nice to meet you.'' It honestly was nice to meet her. She had a good head on her shoulders and was willing to have a civilized conversation. Aspenstar had been quick to categorize every RiverClan cat into the group of hardly better than rogues... but she should have guessed there was a couple good eggs amongst the rotten ones.

''It does seem as though there would be more difficulty finding food once the river was frozen and all the water animals went away. It's hard for us too, I must admit, but probably not as hard as it is for us. We can dig our prey out of their dens when they're hibernating... Breaking ice must be considerably more difficult.'' She didn't add how the ground was frozen, making it hard for them to dig. She didn't trust this... Briarfire, but she didn't have a reason not to, other than the general hesitance that came with socializing with your enemy.

Briarfire's attention was briefly directed away from Aspenstar and to something behind her. Curiosity getting the best of her, she saw the waving bush leaves and grass stalks from where a small animal must've popped out, before spotting the two she-cats and running back to safety. Turning back to the other cat, she nodded, smiling a little. ''Er... yes. Leaf-fall, I have noticed, is better for hunting. More animals are out, trying to gather food and stuff themselves for winter. That means they're fatter, too. But later leaf-fall means less animals, so it doesn't last long, unfortunately.''

Briefly, she wondered if she should be worried. Worried about sharing too much with this cat. Worried about being so close to the border, when the two previous leaders had met their demise at the paws of RiverClan... and she was speaking with a RiverClan cat. Was this an ambush? Glancing around edgily, she hoped that this cat's friendliness was as sincere as it seemed to be. Trying to alleviate the tensions between ThunderClan and RiverClan wouldn't be helped by her being murdered.

Wait... no. That was silly. She wouldn't be attacked, or killed. She had a full nine lives, and was actually expecting an attack. She wanted to trust Briarfire... she wanted to have a peaceful conversation with this cat. So she straightened her spine, a little more than before, and smiled warily at the brown warrior. ''Do you have an apprentice?''

Watching the ThunderClan leader through thoughtful blue eyes, Briarfrost easily picked out the anxiety that rolled off her. It was warranted after all - sure, ThunderClan had essentially escalated this conflict by not only allowing their warriors free reign to harm RiverClan cats at the border and then subsequently not owning up to it (from what she had heard), but RiverClan must've put them on edge with the raid. She hadn't participated, instead staying back to guard the nursery in case of a counter attack.

"It can be. Most of them time we just have to resort to other prey that's on land. Breaking through the ice and taking an unexpected swim is never fun, even for us," she chuckled, recalling a time from her apprenticeship where she had fallen through and taken a rather icy bath. Cold, and shocking for sure. Not fun.

The brown and white flecked molly gave a nod. Though her senses were still up, her muscles were relaxed; she didn't have a worry of being attacked. If the new ThunderClan leader was as sensible as she was appearing to be, any ThunderClan cat that tried to harm Briarfrost would certainly get a talking to. "Unfortunately, I do not. I've trained a pawful of warriors in my day though. Swimming is always the hardest, believe it or not. Not all who are born have the same love for the water," the senior warrior added with another chuckle.

Time had been slipping out from underpaw, though Briarfrost wasn't too worried. Not that she would ever speak on it to a cat of another Clan, but with Kestrelstar gone things were a bit more... relaxed back at camp. "Hopefully this coming leaf-bare doesn't bring with it more hardship than necessary," the warrior finally added, touching briefly, though vaguely, on the sensitive topic of the heightened tensions. She was curious what the new leaders thoughts were on it, though expected to get an answer back that was just as vague.

He heard a rustle across the border, but to close to the ThunderClan's side to be unnoticable. Nostrils flaring, he took a step towards the bush. It reeked of fish and RiverClan. So it had to be one of them.

Growling, he squared up to the rustling bush. Though, how much damage could a short gay guy do?

Looking around he knew he was in Thunderclan territory but he just couldn't leave yet. Making his way thru the shrubbery and overgrown grass he stopped, coming from behind the bush he smelt a Thunderclan cat nearby. Standing still he waited to attack not knowing that a cat would jump on him.

\\: whoops, haha, so sorry)

It was... difficult to tell what Briarfrost wanted to gain from this conversation. Aspenstar wasn't even sure what she wanted to gain. A better understanding of the Clan she had villainized in her mind? Perhpaps. But understanding them wouldn't do much help if she didn't protect her Clan from them. But the cat in front of her was nothing those she had met before, at Gatherings, during battle (though there were hardly ever any civil conversations or proper introductions during a fight) She refrained herself from asking the RiverClan she-cat if she was really a RiverClan cat, or a ThunderClanner she had never met before. Actually... no. Briarfrost was way too polite and respectful to be a ThunderClan cat.

"Land prey would be hibernating, I assume? They're easier to catch when they're asleep, but only if you can dig them out with the ground frozen solid. Especially with all the moisture that is in the ground with how wet the earth is in your territory, it must be challenging. " In her younger days, Aspenstar had tried to dig a nest of voles up, when the ground was frozen. She hadn't made a scratch in the rock-heard earth, and went home sore and frustrated. And the funniest part was, she looked back on that like it was so long ago, when really it was simply last leaf-bare. Hopefully she had matured more since then. She liked to think so.

At Briarfrost's mention of a freezing dunk in the ice, Aspenstar shivered slightly, merely at the thought. Stars, that would be horribly uncomfortable. And cold... "I can't imagine that being fun for anyone. Except maybe some apprentices." Apprentice's and their logic and lack thereof were confusing things to think about, really. What was the point of some of the things they did, she had no clue. Like digging a hole in the middle of the territory with the intent of catching a Clanmate... Cornpaw. Sighing softly at the thought of the troublesome apprentice, she felt sorry for his mentor, all that energy and... bright ideas would be hard to manage. Thankfully her own apprentice was more... mellow.

She could hardly believe that the hardest lesson to teach in RiverClan was swimming. She thought the cats were... half fish or something like that. "Really." She said, marveling at the thought. Maybe because swimming was a fun pastime for apprentices, and they didn't want to be forced to do anything, even if it was something they typically enjoyed. "Well, for ThunderClan, one of the harder lessons to teach is tree climbing. Lot's of falling, and panicking... and apprentices getting stuck in trees." It was actually hilarious, as long as she wasn't the mentor or the apprentice. She had fallen out of a tree her first lesson. Nearly taken her mentor down, too.

It was ironic how both Clan's signature moves or skills were the least popular. The majority of apprentices looked forward to battle training, and as much as they needed it, they also didn't need battle-hungry young cats begging and thirsting for violence. The youth should be kept as vaguely informed with drama and chaos as possible, instead they should be able to focus on training, not on gossiping or daydreaming of being hero of battle.

Shooting Briarfrost a side eye at her comment. Didn't look like she was asking for trouble... "Yes, hopefully we can get everything together before leaf-bare, so we can focus on staying healthy as possible." She chose her words carfully, as in responding to the vague reference to the tensions currently, but also trying not to let the other warrior get upset in any way.

Lizardfrost often took the initiative on patrols, on account of doing whatever she was told by the leader and ignoring whoever was with her. So cats usually tended to follow along. She immediately went into a quick walk and made her way to Smallpines, not even turning once to see if anyone else was coming.
Once she reached the border, the she-cat began marking it diligently. She could mark the whole border by herself if need be.

Codpaw nearly ran out of camp, reminding himself to keep himself behind Lizardfrost. It'd be no use to get himself into trouble on his first patrol. He bounced every few steps, trying vainly to keep his cool. He followed Lizardfrost's lead as she started refreshing the scent markers. "What makes Thunderclan cats so different from us? Or are they even all that different at all?" He asked to whoever would answer. He hadn't particularly intended for that to be said aloud but if one of the warrior's had an answer maybe it could put rest to some of his endless questions rotating constantly through his mind.

Cricketsting bunched his legs and followed behind the group. After a stop, the young warrior inhaled for air, then began marking the border. Even with Codpaw’s question waiting in the air, Cricketsting continued onward marking. Without looking back, the light-cream cat explained, “ThunderClan don’t hunt for fish in water unlike we do. They are a bunch of cowardly drypaws.” He twitched his whiskers humorously. He perked his ears towards Codpaw to hopefully hear a mrrow of laughter, or even a tiny chuckle, from the curious apprentice.

Lizardfrost was quickly wrapping up her marking. She'd rubbed her scent well and marked a good portion of the border. The conversation happening was of little interest to her, as though she found it ridiculous that anyone thought ThunderClan were oh so different and worse than River!Clan just becuase they didn't like water. As if RiverClan regularly climbed trees. Of course, Lizardfrost actually could since she'd taken lessons. Clan politics were ridiculously stupid. **Codpaw**

Codpaw walked in silence, thoughtful, for a couple of paces. He did find it strange that Thunderclan didn't eat fish and hated the water; he'd always loved the water. But was that a real difference? Slowly, he spoke up, "But what if that's only because we're taught differently? We don't climb up high in the trees, is that because we're too afraid too? And does that make us cowardly or unskilled in that area?" He shrugged. "I just think it'd be fun if we did learn how to do it. Maybe the clans could help each other out." Codpaw stopped, feeling heat brush beneath his pelt. He'd said too much, he was sure. Would the two warriors start suspecting him of being disloyal? He wasn't disloyal, just curious!

But as he marked another tree, a lumbering movement caught his eye. He stopped and turned to face it, his head cocking and his pelt pickling. A large grey raccoon was traipsing along across the border. "Hey, uh, is that normal?" Codpaw's paws tingled, adrenaline starting to pump through his body as he prepared for a fight or flight though he worked to keep himself calm and present.

He looked curiously at Codpaw whilst he listened. Invisible brows furrowed his forehead, trying to understand what Codpaw was trying to say. “Well um,” Cricketsting meowed, and rambled on with unintelligible noises.

As he finished marking the flowers, Cricketsting’s gray eyes drew over to a raccoon, the one that Codpaw mentioned. An imaginary conversation was heard in the light-cream tabby’s mind. He stepped close to the apprentice. “Of course it is normal! It is always normal to see a raccoon do some spiritual rite. I heard from some ShadowClan cats at a Gathering that these raccoons are trying to curse every clan for taking over their territory. Even those Frogbreaths were scared!” Cricketsting snorted, and gazed at Lizardfrost. his eyes sparkled with amusement and covered his mouth with his tail as if saying ‘ssh, don’t spoil it’.

Codpaw listened to Cricketsting's explanation intently. Raccoons doing secret rites? He'd never thought about raccoons as being capable of such things. "Well, I guess I'd be pretty upset too if somebody came and started pushing me out of my home. Maybe if they're that smart and organized then we could make some agreement." He ignored the frogbreath comment though it did make his pelt crawl just slightly. He wouldn't ever understand the hatred and rivalry between all of the clans. But Lizardfrost seemed to discredit everything Cricketsting claimed about the raccoons. He sighed, unsure what to believe. He'd simply never seen a raccoon out at this time. But he shrugged. It seemed to be backing off after Lizardfrost's warning so it was probably nothing. He kept his eyes locked on the lumbering creature though, the fur along his spine refusing to lie flat again, until it disappeared deeper into Thunderclan territory. "Should we warn Thunderclan that there's a strange raccoon on their territory?"

Watching the gray raccoon go into ThunderClan after Lizardfrost’s warning, Cricketsting’s eyes glowed concernedly. Sure he loves a good rivalry with the clans, but he didn’t want some kind of dangerous predator to dreadfully impact a clan. And what adds another weight to his shoulders is that the predator was pushed by him and his two clanmates. It could likely add another tear between RiverClan’s relationship with the clans.

The tabby nodded silently to Codpaw’s question. He gazed at the patrol leader. “What do you think?”

Blegh. Riverclan. Her nose scrunched up as she gazed out into the other clans territory. Even though they had a truce, she still didn't trust that they wouldn't try to pull anything. With a leader like Kestrelstar, it wouldn't be unheard of. Still, she wasn't in as much of a rush as she had been at Shadowclans border. Cindersky
An apprentice who had never marked the borders? As a warrior who did not have an apprentice of her own, Cindersky took advantage of the opportunity placed before her. Blue eyes bright and shimmering as she exited camp with Mistpaw in tow, she tossed her head over her shoulder to smile at her. "We can head to the RiverClan border - I do not think we will encounter any trouble, at least not at the section I have in mind to pay visit to. And I have a... special project I need your help on, admittedly." A bashful look overcame her expression as she turned back around, gray paws prancing a bit with each step.

She figured Mistpaw would be alright with the extra tasks Cindersky had in mind, but would not fault the apprentice for wishing to remain out of it. Opinions on the crown of ThunderClan were diversified as ever, with some cats agreeing with Nectarflame while others still blindly saw past the mistakes that had been made early on in the leadership. Cindersky was unsure where to place herself, but knew that she held a core respect for both Aspenstar and Dogbark, simply as her Clanmates and family.

"You are familiar with our deputy Dogbark, yes? Well, I have a secret to share with you," Cindersky began, pausing their journey so that she could be right by Mistpaw as she divulged the rest of the secret. Hesitation hung in the air, if only to add to the mystique and increase the sly smile on the face of the senior warrior. "...Did you know, long before he became the great deputy you see today, our very own Dogbark had a shell collection?" Her voice came in a whisper, head bent low as if Cindersky and Mistpaw were not the only cats within ear shot. Blue eyes widened as she waited for the reaction of the younger apprentice, hoping that this would be a fun distraction from all of the chaos back at camp.

~Mistpaw~

Small paws pitter-pattering to keep up with the older warrior, Mistpaw listened with rapt attention as they began their trek through the territory. Thankfully they weren't going to the Shadowclan border... Suddenly her ears perked up as Cindersky mentioned need their help for a "special project".

A special project?! They needed ME?!

An unfamiliar spark of pride seemed to swell up in her chest as an excited grin cracked across her muzzle, and she had to physically stop herself from starting to bounce like a kit. "Oh, I'd love to help out with your special project!," she purred, the bounce she had been holding back starting to escape into her eager paws as she followed. "What kinda project is it?"

At the mention of her familiarity with the deputy, Mistpaw gave a quick nod. He was a very important cat, and while she hadn't directly interacted with him she had seen him a few times in the nursery bringing in prey for the queens and kits. Bushpaw had gone up to talk with him back then, but she had preferred to continue sorting her pebble collection. Blinking herself back into the present, the young apprentice slowed to a stop as her escort did the same before divulging... the most WONDERFUL secret she had ever been told.

A quiet gasp escaped her muzzle, while her eyes grew to the size of river stones and her grin followed. "Dogbark had a shell collection?..." she whispered, almost reverently as she processed the very words she was saying. The DEPUTY of her clan liked to collect things too?! So she wasn't an odd cat for liking pretty things?! Suddenly a small realization hit her and her excitement diminished somewhat. "Wait... you said HAD. Does he... not like to collect shells anymore?"

Oh stars, he probably grew out of it just like some other cats said she would. Was she destined to stop collecting some day? She hoped not. Wait, why would Cindersky bring it up if he did? Grey eyes swirling with questions, she turned to the older warrior for answers.

Cindersky
As excitement dotted the apprentices face, twinkling in her eyes like the stars in Silverpelt, Cindersky felt her own joy swell. Dogbark had tried his best to keep it a secret, but she had been nosy and kept an eye on her Clanmates. It had not been a clear view, but enough to confirm the gray spotted she-cats suspicions that he was keeping something shiny tucked away where the rest of the warriors could not see.

"With his new duties, I do not think he has had the time, and his prior collection burned up in the fire we had some seasons ago..." A twinge of sadness splintered her words, blue hues misting over for a moment or two. Smoke filled lungs and cries of her Clanmates... it was a time that Cindersky tried often not to think about. Stuck in a crevice of her mind, hidden away and concealed by protective brambles. She decided to store it back there instead of bringing it about now.

Resuming her walk, Cindersky nodded towards Mistpaw. "That is what our secret mission is today. To find Dogbark a shell. He will never say it, but I know he misses his collection dearly." Or at least, she assumed from how big the pile she had seen had been. Upturned nose twitching, Cindersky took a moment to check their surroundings. Of course the fishy scent of RiverClan drifted to her, but it was no stronger than just the border which indicated they must be the only cats here at the moment. "Here, follow me. I think towards this end of the stream should be a small sandy opening."

Paws picking their way over soft grassy soil along the riverbank, Cindersky kept her ears up and alert. There were no signs of danger, but it never hurt to be at attention when this close to another Clans border. Coming into view shortly the land seemed to dip, and as Cindersky followed the slop down it opened to a quaint little sandy shoreline that disappeared underneath the water. There was just a little bit of sand, and the opening was just large enough for her and Mistpaw. "Do you see any?" she asked her companion, turning her blue gaze onto the apprentice.

~Mistpaw~

Listening with rapt attention as the older warrior added more details to Dogbark's shell collection a mix of shock and sadness passed across her face as she heard what had happened to his lovely stash of shells. Oh stars, if anything like that ever happened to her pebbles and feathers... She couldn't imagine how upset she'd be. Jolted out of her thought's by her companion beginning to walk once more, the young apprentice quickly skittered after them.

Their secret mission was to find new shells for the deputy?! Oh sky's above, this was turning into the BEST DAY EVER! No longer attempting to hide her excitement, Mistpaw bounced from paw-to-paw as they walked closer to the Riverclan border. She still wrinkled her nose at their fishy scent, but dealing with their weird smelling border was the least she could do since she was on a 'super important collecting mission' for the deputy.

Spotting the sandy shores as Cindersky led them through an opening in the underbrush, Mistpaw's eyes turned focused. This was a very important task and she needed to be on high alert for shells and shiny things in the ground! Steely gaze flicking along the shoreline she gingerly padded into the sand, poking and prodding the ground like she did when looking for shiny pebbles in softer patches of dirt. Speaking of shiny... a glint of something bright poked out of the sand as Mistpaw prodded the ground with her paw. The familiar exciting buzz of discovery zapped through her body as she carefully pushed the sand away from her shiny discovery.

The shiny, purplish inside of shell greeted her vision as she excavated it from it's sandy resting place with a quiet squeak of excitement. A small sandy clam shell appeared in her mouth as she turned to Cindersky with a gleeful look before bouncing over to the water to rinse it off and make it as shiny as possible for it's intended recipient.

Mallardstep fluffed up his fur and stretched. He opened his mouth in a yawn. Then he stood up and shook his fur out. He had to admit she had a point.
“I guess that’s true. I still wish Starclan would make it at least a little warmer” He grumbled. He was still grouchy from being woken up by Dogbark’s call.

Cindersky
Blue hues followed the young apprentice as she began to poke at the ground, digging up sand to get to the small glint. Cindersky had seen it, but it would be a much more enjoyable find for Mistpaw. She seemed to really be enjoying their outing, and the gray spotted she-cat was glad that she could offer some support in the form of a shiny shell excursion. It would give both of them something to occupy their mind, and Cindersky for one appreciated that her thoughts were not on the chaotic current state of ThunderClan.

Leaving Mistpaw to her excavating, Cindersky turned to the shoreline to study where the water gently lapped at the small out outcropping. Nothing of interest captured her attention yet, and for a moment she allowed herself to be entranced by the flowing stream. It was quite beautiful, despite the frosty chill that settled in the air around her. Puffs of air billowed from her maw as her gaze shifted along to examine each little detail. It was hard to detect at first, but with the sun in just the right angle Cindersky managed to locate what could quite possibly be a shell.

A smile dotted her face as she moved towards it, paws already curved to work at tossing away the sand. It was half in the water, and with each dig Cindersky would bring her paw up to flick off the excess droplets. A few more scoops and soon a pretty slightly pinkish shell could be seen. She scooped her head down and retried it, giving it and her head a shake. Water rolled down her whiskers and fell with a 'blip!' back into the stream. This would be an excellent addition, she was sure.

Just as she turned to reveal her results, she noticed Mistpaw doing the same. The warrior let out a 'mrrp!' of contentedness, giving her companion an eager nod. Cindersky dropped her shell into waiting paws, beginning to rinse it off alongside Mistpaw. "That one is exquisitely beautiful! You really have a knack for finding shells!" Pride seeped into her tone as she turned to look at the shell, then at Mistpaw.

~Mistpaw~

It looked like Cindersky had found a nice shell too and Mistpaw practically beamed at her praise. Placing the small shell gentle onto the sand in front of her, Mistpaw's excitement at being recognized for her skills by someone outside of her family tumbled out in a slough of words. "My mom said I'm the best collector she's ever seen! Bushpaw and Rainypaw think it's silly, but I find so many pretty things and they make my nest look nice!" Perhaps there was some over-exaggeration in this tumultuous response, but the young apprentice was too enthralled with her shell collecting partner to care. "And now we could give Dogbark TWO shells to restart his collection, do you think he'll like them? I hope he likes them. I left a nice shiny black feather for Icicleripple when I remade all the nests in the medicine cat den but she..."

Oh.

Mistpaw trailed off and deflated slightly as her her mind caught up with her words after spouting so much at once. Icicleripple hadn't even gotten to see that feather... Blinking the misty sadness from her eyes that seemed to accumulate whenever she thought about the past medicine cat, the grey apprentice attempted to refocus on the prospect of shells. This was her first time finding shells, so she should be trying to figure out all the best spots and... and where to find different colours... not being sad.

Her slowly drooping tail betrayed her mood, but Mistpaw tried to give the older warrior in front of her a bit of a forced grin before turning around to halfheartedly poke at the sand some more.

More shells. She needed more shells. Then Dogbark would be happy, and others could see and maybe tell her their favorite things and she could make more cats happy. Not sad. She didn't like this heavy feeling of sad. It made her feel ill.

Spotting another glint in the sand by her paws, Mistpaw pushed away the tiny granules to reveal... well it was another small clam shell, but it had been broken in half. It's jagged edges would be to sharp for paws to step on comfortably, so she carefully plucked it out of he ground and placed it in a more visible spot by the water.

Cindersky
It was a marvelous thing, to watch how a cats eyes lit up as they talked about something of which they loved. Cindersky found herself enamored by Mistpaw, purring lightly as her smile grew and gaze sparkled. Even though she had no apprentice of her own, the spotted senior warrior liked to think of all the youth in ThunderClan as her apprentice to an extent. Sure, she might not have them for one on one teaching, but at least she got these small, seemingly insignificant moments that hopefully eased the stress placed on their shoulders.

”She is certainly right! You did such an excellent job finding this one!” Cindersky exclaimed, bending down and stretching her neck out to get a closer look. It was smooth and shiny, and one that Dogbark would certainly take a liking to. She admired the sparkling beauty of it, ears twitching as Mistpaw talked about how she liked to decorate her nest with pretty findings. It was something Cindersky recalled doing in her younger apprentices days, before Ivythorn had commented on what a waste of time it was. She had stopped then, but now seeing young Mistpaw, it was good to see that some young cats did not let the voices of others so heavily influence their lives.

”I bet you have the prettiest nest in all of the apprentices’ den,” Cindersky purred, standing back up and using a slender paw to scoot her shell closer to where Mistpaw had hers. As blue hues shifted up towards Mistpaw, the attempt to dissuade the senior warrior from seeing what true emotion lay beyond the surface was in vein. She had many moons of experience in detangling cryptic expressionless masks thanks to her siblings, and her heart squeezed a bit in pain.

Sliding up so that she was next to Mistpaw, watching the younger cats paws go to work at the sand, Cindersky let out a soft sigh. ”It is okay to be sad. I miss her too. She was a wonderful medicine cat.” Gentle and soft, hoping to float down like wings of a dove and comfort Mistpaw, Cindersky tipped her head a bit to one side. ”I am certain, that even from her place among the stars she saw your wonderful gift, and her heart is evermore full because of it.” It was a nice theory that Cindersky liked to view; that even after their passing, cats still looked down on those honored them, and thought of them in their day-to-day lives.

As Mistpaw carefully navigated the jagged looking shell from the sand, Cindersky stood by in case there happened to be a paw scrape and she needed to make a dash for cobwebs. It fell into the water where they could both see it clearly. It was broken, yes, but to Cindersky that did not matter. ”Even broken things are beautiful,” she murmured, pressing her pelt against her companions in comfort. ”The jagged edges look sharp, but see the shimmer? See how it still has its sparkle? Whatever caused it to break, did not steal that. Not a force in this forest, nor in the sky, could ever take that away from it.”

Mistpaw's fur grew slightly warmer as she registered Cindersky's praise. It was a welcome breath of relief from the heavy feelings of grief that welled up whenever Icicleripple came to mind. The prospect that maybe the medicine cat had seen her gift from her place among the stars was... comforting in a way. Perhaps she should lay out more treasures within the medicine cat's den to make it a little prettier for anyone going in their. Well... she should probably wait until Starclan chose the next medicine cat before covering their future den in bobbles and trinkets.

A mumbled, "Thank you..." escaped her muzzle as she prodded at the broken shell Cindersky was describing in an oddly comforting way. Maybe some cats were like that too. Dogbark for example; he was a little rough around the edges, but perhaps these shells would be a nice shiny reminder of happy things for him. A small grin cracked across her face at the thought and she turned back to Cindersky, rather pleased with her mind for coming up with that.

"Could we go give the deputy his new shells?" she inquired, some of her bubbly excitement returning to her voice as she spoke. "Do you... do you think he'd be busy right now?"

The flame-colored tabby continued on his quiet walk. Hmm.. he wondered idly if he would run into a RiverClan cat. Hopefully not: they were at a truce, but he wasn't exactly eager to be in contact with them. Ah, well. Time would tell.

She knew it was silly because there was a truce, but there was still bad blood between RiverClan and ThunderClan and one could never know what was about to happen.

The real surprise came however when she went to begin marking the border. ThunderClan scent was actually fresh! After moons of not having been marking their border it appears the tree loving cats had finally started once again. What this meant, though, Shimmerbird wasn't sure. Leafecho walked quietly, uncomfortable with being followed as she was used to being the one who followed. Getting out of camp after the last few tense days was a relief though. Though as soon as she felt the relief trickle in it was immediately replaced by guilt. She'd come into the clan from being a loner for fifty moons and at the first sign of turmoil she didn't want to be the type who reverted back to their old loner says. No, she shook her head, this was her home, for better or for worse. No matter what was going on, Thunderclan had still taken her in and it was the best home she'd ever had, it still was the best home she'd ever had.

She realized they made it to the border and somewhat distractedly sniffed the air, parting her maw. The Riverclan side of the border smelled fresh. She didn't know whether to take that as a good sign or a bad. They clearly weren't letting their guard down but that also meant they would be less likely to run into a patrol if the patrol had gone over jt recently. She looked to Larkstorm. Oh. Had she not been paying attention? “You’re the leader,” Larkstorm replied. “How do you want to patrol the border?” Leafecho seemed really confused, as if she had no idea what she was doing. Larkstorm wondered if this was her first time leading a patrol. “You want me to lead?” She asked her Clanmate. Maybe Leafecho would benefit from someone else taking the lead.

Leafecho's mind slowly settled back into focus. She was leading the border patrol, sure she'd realized that at camp but it was not a position she was used to. The questions fogged her mind again. She searched her mind to think back to the other patrols she'd been a part of. How had they answered questions? Surely and confidently. But that wasn't Leafecho. She shook her head as she tried to clear the nervous lump in her throat. It was tempting to let another cat take the lead so she could settle back into a more comfortable subservient role again but Dogbark had entrusted the responsibility to her and she had to fulfill her roles to the clan. "No, no I can do it. We...uh...we refresh our borders quickly, don't look for trouble, head back to camp." Leafecho felt heat flush beneath her pelt but quickly turned and rubbed her scent against the roots of a tree growing along the border before trotting off down the line of the border.

Larkstorm nodded. “Ok, sure.” She nodded again at Leafecho. “Yeah, sounds like a plan.” She followed Leafeacho’s lead, beginning to mark the markers Leafecho missed. As she did she looked out for any RiverClan Clan scent on their territory, but could smell none. “See anything out of the ordinary?” She asked Leafecho.

Leafecho stayed vigilantly aware of her surroundings though she let Larkstorm fade into the background. Trust didn't come easily to Leafecho but she was fairly confident that the molly wouldn't randomly turn on her own clanmate for no reason so there wasn't much need to keep her in her awareness. She kept glancing across the border as she marked. It felt like something was lurking but it'd been many moons since Leafecho hadn't felt like she was being watched constantly, like she needed to have one eye over her shoulder at all times. The feeling was slowly fading since she'd been in Thunderclan but with the recent turmoil she'd noticed that it'd stopped its regression. Nothing seemed to be amiss on the other side. She didn't look back to Larkstorm as she shook her head, but she looked again across the border and marked a bramble bush. "No, nothing seems out of the ordinary to me." She then turned to look at the warrior. "Do, uh, do you want to start heading back?"

Larkstorm shrugged. “Yeah, I mean we’ve gotten all the border markers and there’s been no sighting of any RiverClan cats. I think we’re good to go.” She began to walk back to camp with a flick of her tail to Leafecho to follow her, then stopped and felt her pelt flush with embarrassment. “We, do you want to lead?” She asked awkwardly. Larkstorm had gotten ahead of herself, again. She took a step backward, allowing Leafecho to take the lead.

Leafecho nodded. The border seemed to be well covered and nothing had happened. Her nerves seemed to settle a bit. She knew better than most that even within marked territory it was still never assured safety. But regardless, getting away from the border made her feel more secure. She hadn't even realized she'd fallen into following her patrolmate until Larkstorm stopped and let her walk ahead. "Oh, yeah, sure." Leafecho trotted ahead and walked directly through the forest back into the Thunderclan camp.

>Lynxfuzz<
A soft chirp passed Lynxfuzz's lips as stalked along the RiverClan border, followed by a chorus of a few more. He was curious to see if any birds would respond, but the woods were silent today. Lynxfuzz fiddled with the stalk of grass in his mouth - man, he needed to get a knew one, this one was getting gross. Wrinkling his nose, he let it fall to the snow and trampled it under his paws. He'd fish around for a new one later, there was bound to be something underneath all of this stuff.

He chirped again, this time just for the fun of it, and then sighed and came to a stop. Why was he out here again? Sure, chaos was fun and all, but camp felt stuffy and overbearing. Maybe this was just to get away from it. Just a quick break before he could go back to being a pot-stirrer - not his label! But if Dogbark insisted on it, then so be it. He could be a pot-stirrer. Just... later.

The sound of paws crunching lightly in the snow made his long ears perk up and he swiveled his head to stare through the undergrowth lining the border, where he could just barely make out the figure of another cat. Surely this wasn't happening. He'd come out here for some peace and quiet and it had been ruined instantly. Just great. Properly miffed, yet still retaining his signature expression of utter boredom, Lynxfuzz stuck his head through the bush to address whatever rude cat had decided to bother him. "Hey, pal, I don't know who you are and I don't really care, but would you mind moving along? Trying to relax here."

Something had been gnawing at him to get up and out of his den. White paws slapped the earth as Kestrelstar padded swiftly towards the borders. He had just finished passing through the ShadowClan border with no issues and figured he'd pay a quick visit to Smallpines before heading back. Emerging from the reeds, he fixed a glare on the two cats. "Leave, both of you. Before neither of you have paws to do so." Kestrelstar was not in the mood to deal with trespassers right now, especially from ThunderClan and... wherever the other stranger was from. He fixed both of them with a glare, indicating that he would chase them out if they didn't leave.

Despite having an unrestful night, the tom would rather be useful than get some extra sleep, he could make up for his lost sleep and take a nap right after this, a nice, long nap.

He trailed along after Rowanmist, staring up at the tall, impressive trees. They were toweringly huge! Although the tom adored how Thunderkitties liked to climb trees, Skyshard could look at a tree and feel threatened and run, never daring to challenge such a tall tree by trying to climb it, oh, by the gods, no. I mean, it just looks so intimidating and big, I would never try and climb that! Call me a coward, i´ll own up to that, I just really hate climbing!

He would certainly lose but damn, it would be nice to allow this hell of an experience get a lick of its own taste. He squeezed his eyes shut, grumbling softly under his breath.

His whiskers twitched once they reached Thunderclan border. His misty gaze shifted to Skyshard, "Is it?" Wormbite questioned, frowning softly. He squinted his eyes at the blurry shapes. He could neither confirm nor deny, his memory offered no references. He huffed, his breath showing in the cold air. The sooner they returned home, the sooner the Shield could sink himself into warmth. Preferably Fawnspring or Ravenflight's fur.

Thunderclan is and has been the laughing stock of the forest for as long as he could remember, and he was glad to be out with the chance of being able to meet a Thunderkitty and maybe get the inside scoop. After a quick run around check of the area, he returned to his fellow clanmates, a small grin on his face. This morning, he awoke a grumpy stink. However, being assigned a patrol was just pretty nice, it brought his spirits up greatly. He just loved helping his clan, it felt good knowing that you were dedicating yourself to a good cause.

Warm blue eyes flicked over to Skyshard, flopped ears pricking up. "Maybe they're not getting kicked out...we don't know what's going on with ThunderClan." he mused.

An echoing 'thumping' caught Rowanmist's attention, however. At first he thought it was a Coyote, or a different large preditor. But as he looked around he saw nobody but Wormbite. The roaring of his heartbeat simmered down, the light tingling in his paws leaving. A shy smile appearing on his maw.

A sigh escaped from him followed by another curse when the wind whipped at his sides. Wormbite brushed against one last tree, completing marking his side of the border before he began to trot back towards the two.

"Ah, I am not sure. I doubt we will.. find anything but I am interested i-" Wormbite had begun to respond but his voice was cut short. As if Starclan had personally saw his discomfort of the snow and deemed it not good enough. Desperate to give him something to just brighten up his day. He had brushed up against one more tree while he headed back which was his death wish. Snow began to fall rapidly down in his direction - the tom was completely unaware.

Until the white heap of coldness swallowed him whole. The mass covered him completely and for the moment there was only silence. Clearly Wormbite hadn't realized what had happened but ever so slowly, black misshaped ears began to rise from the snow. Like a phoenix that rises from the ashes, the Dark Lord pulls himself up. He's evidently trembling, his teeth chattering together at the cold that had invaded his limbs.

He stares blankly until his gaze sweeps down to the snow that had attacked him. Immediately he scowls and pounces onto the heap, lashing out at it and kicking snow everywhere. He curses up a storm which is well, mildly hilarious because he can't quite speak correctly do to his chattering teeth - stuttering and stumbling over his words. "Le, eafbare..e you are the most horr, rible exper, eience I h..have ev..ver had the disp..p..pleasure of kn..nowing and I quite ho..ope you realize that. No o..ne likes you. I ca..nnnot - this - " Wormbite's face scrunches up as he murmurs, and he sneezed.

He blinks and then huffs, shaking his long body to try and get the snow off him. Looking back to his patrol members, he dips his head. "We - w, we do not - talk about it - " He shakes, walking towards Rowanmist and Skyshard. Then proceeds to trip over a hidden stick and faceplants into the snow. He arises less dramatically this time and practically bolts towards Rowanmist's side. Wormbite presses himself against the practical ball of fluff, "Can - can we head b, back?" He huffs in embarrassment.

The Russet feline let out a sad hum. It was true...ThunderClan had been incredibly quiet for moons, no longer held that fire within them. Was it not ThunderClan that had started the war long ago? What was it...between ThunderClan and WindClan? Though the Warrior couldn't remember what side Riverclan was on...he remembered hearing stories about how ThunderClan had held it's own, and held it stubbornly. What had become of them now?

The Tabby was going to open his mouth, ask his comerades their thoughts on what had become of ThunderClan, however whatever he was going to say died in his throat the moment he heard a rather loud 'FWUMP' come from somewhere behind him.

Stood perfectly still, processing what exactly he was seeing. Poor Wormbite covered in a pretty thick layer of snow. Once his brain caught up with his eyes the tom leaned forward and let out a peal of laughter. Tears pricking at his eyes. "Oh nooo." he wheezed.

The Dark Lord trembled and shook, his teeth chattering together. Rowanmist provided warmth but it nothing to cease Wormbite's suffering. Curses flooded his head and now his fate had been sealed. He would have to worry about seeing Snakeheart sooner or later because his body enjoyed failing him. It was only when laughter met his ears that he was pulled out of his thoughts. Slowly Wormbite looked towards Rowanmist, a blank expression for such a silent period of time besides the tom's laughter.

"G..gingerwish, I am g, going to put s,snow into.. your n,est when you ar,re ... u... unsuspecting, "He threatened, his ears pulling back. Referring to their first interaction, his tone held no true anger. It was just far from being an empty threat. Nonetheless, it seemed like their patrol was wrapped up at this point. Wormbite also didn't have the motivation to continue so he pulled away from Rowanmist. "C'mon, " He mewed out weakly, heading back towards camp.

The tabby nodded curtly and turned, heading towards the ThunderClan border, Smallpines, leading her patrolmates. She sighed as the woodsy scent entered her maw as they arrived and wrinkled her nose. But at least it wasn't as bad as ShadowClan.

Without saying anything, she crouched, rubbing her fur against some frosted tree trunks, her expression thoughtful as she did so. But a flash of brownish fur caught her attention and she jerked her head up, glancing at the river nearby. Oh, great, beavers. Green hues flickered between the beavers and her patrolmates, unsure whether to tell them or not.

Sterling herself, Hazelstorm said quietly, "Hey, look. Beavers." She silently pointed with her fluffy tail, disgust taking control of her face as she glared at the darned creatures.

The black cat began brushing against a tree along the border as well. She too wrinkled her nose against ThunderClan's scent. She clawed against a few old markings and brushed her foreleg over them to trap her scent. Hearing Hazelstorm's quiet statement she turned around and saw the furry things. Wierd. What do you wanna do with 'em? she asked with a small sniff in the direction of the animals. She blinked once and turned to a tree, always keeping an eye on the creatures. She snorted in disgust and began to mark a few thick swatches of grass that were bent over.

Hazelstorm blinked, momentarily surprised by Leechfang's question. She glanced around, feeling something missing here. A frown settled on her face. It seemed Ravenclaw had showed up for the patrol but had not came on the patrol. Strange.

"I suppose we chase them off," she said, a smudge uneasily, thinking about what the creatures would do if they tried. A sigh escaped her lips as she added tiredly, "Look, they're trying to make a dam. They'll cut off our water supply."

Ravenclaw looks at each of the she-cats. "Sorry I'm late." They admit, their head lowered.
The cat didn't get lost or anything, it was that a cat wanted to go with them but couldn't. Their brother, Coralsplash, had begged and begged to go with them.
But Ravenclaw told him he couldn't.
'Everything will be okay. If we're attacked by a ShadowClan patrol, we will fight our way out of it. But I highly doubt we'll see anything.' He had told his brother.

The black molly nodded to the patrol leader with a flick of her ear. She studied the beavers for a moment until she crept forward slowly. Stopping halfway, she looked back at Hazelstorm and waited for the others to come with her. She stayed silent and out of sight of the beavers while eyeing them warily. She wrinkled her nose again at their musky scent. Dumb rodents she thought with a frown.

Ravenclaw watches the black she-cat they remember as Leechfang. They watch one of the musky animals, the name is associated with the scent as they more forward slowly. A beaver, they are called.
And they are building something to block the water from flowing. That is not going to happen on their watch, because if a beaver builds a dam across the water and stops it from flowing... The cats of RiverClan - and possibly the others - will have to kill them before and destroy the dam.
The cats of the forest, pines, river and moors cannot live without water, no cat can.
So the large, muscular cat pads towards Leechfang. "What are you going to do? Look at the teeth on the beavers." They hiss softly, glaring at the large, yellow-orange teeth that jut out of the beavers' mouth.
"Those things are laced with infections and how are three cats supposed to scare away that many of them." They think about it for a minute. "Actually, we can take those things on. Teach them not to ever mess with RiverClan again.
The wiry blue-grey cat's tail whips the ground silently as they gaze at the hates creatures.

Hazelstorm glared as Ravenclaw showed up, her whiskers twitching in annoyance.

"There you are, I'll have to report your lateness to Kestrelstar." Her voice was harsh, trying to knock some StarClan-cursed sense into the blue grey cat. "And I believe I'm the leader of this patrol, not you, Ravenclaw. You can sit by and watch Leechfang and I if you're too cowardly to do your duty to the Clan. Even if it means facing beavers' teeth."

She flicked her tail, not appreciating how Ravenclaw was questioning her. Hazelstorm ignored their last statement, joining Leechfang , she crouched low, sliding her claws out in case. Creeping closer, as lightly as possible, she swiped at one beaver. There was a group of around five of them beavers there. She just shoved the beavers away from the river, pushing them into the surrounding nature.

"Someone break the dam," she called over her shoulder as she struck the beavers with her claws.

Ravenclaw moves to the dam, going toward the base. The beavers are all distracted by Hazelstorm, so he doesn't encounter any of the hated creatures. They meet the base and looks at the sturdy structure.
The structure is too sturdy, unless...
The cat glances at the base and takes out some of the smaller sticks and some of the larger ones that they could handle. Water flows through, they glance at Hazelstorm. The cat continues to pull out a couple more of the sticks and backs away as the water rushes through the dam, destroying the structure.
'I guess I have done right for once.' They think to themself as they continue to back away from the destroyed dam.

Hazelstorm hissed at the last beaver, sending the fat, plump creature scampering away, before straightening, shaking dead, crinkly leaves out of her fur. Her gaze was cast over her shoulder, a sidelong, expectant glance towards the river. She turnd fully to see the dam gone, and spotted a flash of blue-grey fur. Huh. So it was Cowardclaw who'd destroyed the dam. Hazelstorm pursed her lips, holding in her contragultions. They didn't deserve it anyways.

"Good, the dam's gone," she said brusquely, giving the Coward a nod of approval. That was all that pathetic cat was going to get. "Leechfang, they're gone now," she added in a softer tone, a certain hint of respect kindling. Least he hadn't hesitate to face the damned beavers.

"Ravenclaw, mark something. You too, Leechfang, if you haven't already. Then we can head back." If Hazelstorm's memory served her right she'd already marked the border. So the tabby sat back, waiting for her patrolmates to fulfil her requests.
