Ravenclaw marks along the river, then walks to the two cats' sides. "Okay, I am done. Should we continue on marking or go back to the Camp?" The wiry blue-grey cat looks between them and focuses his gaze on Hazelstorm, since she's the leader of the patrol.

The black molly turned back from the rodents and brushed against one more tree for good measure. Of course, she'd already marked the border plenty, but she wanted to be sure the squirrels stayed on their side. Alright, I'm ready. Whenever you are, Hazelstorm. the warrior said with a smile. A small glare was sent in the way of the latecomer. Where had they been when they left? They'd reported for the patrol, but didn't follow? What kind of warrior did that. Not one Leechfang liked. And Ravenclaw, please don't show up late to patrols. It's rude. Come on time, or don't come at all. she said bluntly with a small and dismissing nod.

(Sorry for her straightforward rudeness. She says what's on her mind most of the time, which is usually pretty blunt and rude like this. I don't feel the same, this is just part of her character.)

Ravenclaw glances at her and nods. "I am sorry, I did not mean to come late but some cats do not like to be yelled at." The cat's ears flatten against his head as he glances at the other.
Being yelled at brought back too many memories for the cat to think. Their father was abusive and yelled a lot. Yelled too much for Ravenclaw's liking. Their father had been the reason they have a scar on their neck.
Ravenclaw shakes their head and sighs. "Sorry. I shouldn't have said that." They admit softly, knowing these two cats will be the type to go running to Kestrelstar - Ravenclaw's idol - and tell him about everything that had happened.
But... It won't do anything to Ravenclaw, other than they might get punished. Would Kestrelstar demote them? Would Kestrelstar exile them for being late to a patrol? Who knows, actually.
Ravenclaw sure doesn't.

oookay..dawnwillow hadn’t showed up - something that brindlefeather was dreading for some reason that she didn’t really know. she sighed, reassuring herself before turning to pondpaw. ”okay, pondpaw! i don’t uh, think dawnwillow’s gonna show up..but that’s okay! just follow me,” the torbie mewed, looking ever so slightly worried.

leading the apprentice out of camp, she slowed down slightly once they reached the border, edging towards the border lining. ”okay..i’m pretty sure this is your first border patrol, so, um. just stay near me and watch! i don’t want you getting hurt or in trouble.” she nodded, padding along the border and beginning to mark it every so often.

The apprentice shrugged when the other warrior didn't show up and followed right behind the warrior. She looked around, scenting her former clan. It was so strange to be near the border again. The last time she had found Kestrelstar and joined Riverclan. This was her home now, but her heart did ache for those she had left behind. Well she wasn't sure what she left behind. Nodding she allowed for them to mark the borders. She had been living here for a moon and wasn't sure if she was beginning to smell like Riverclan. Pondpaw didn't want to confuse anyone.

"I doubt there will be trouble. Not from Thunderclan at least. They weren't acting all like a clan when I lived there.", she meowed. They had hardly even marked their border. It was like they weren't even a clan. That was why she was glad not to live there no more. It was much better here with her new family. Well everyone in Riverclan were her family. She didn't have much family in Thunderclan if any at all.

"yeah.." brindlefeather murmured, rubbing her scent against one of the trees as pondpaw spoke. she hadn't gone to the last meeting, but didn't remember the last time she'd seen a thunderclanner around the border - the markings were barely there - so she had a feeling that the apprentice was right. unfortunately. "hopefully it'll get better for them..we don't want only three clans." the warrior mewed, eyes landing on the frozen, muddy territory of thunderclan. she wasn't a fan of thunderclan, but she didn't want them to literally die off or something..whatever was going on with them.

stepping back from the tree to go to the last one, something caught her attention. a tall, spiky looking green plant poking from a spot where the ground dipped in slightly, near a tree. was that an herb?? she was pretty sure that was an herb..if so, snakeheart would probably want it. "hey, pondpaw? could you maybe mark the next tree..? you just uh, gotta rub your flank against it and it should be good." the torbie instructed before padding towards the plant. she wasn't really sure what type of herb it was - but considering it looked harmless and didn't smell bad and looked pretty.. normal, she was sure it was okay, so brindlefeather plucked the two narrow plants with her teeth.

The apprentice nodded her head and moved over to the rest of the border. She rubbed her flank like she told her to on the tree. Once she felt it was good enough she moved back towards her. "Whats that?", she asked, pointing to the plant. Pondpaw waited for their answer than they should be ready to head back.

Echosong led Houndpaw to the Riverclan border, tail held high. She wasn't quite sure where Shimmertail was, but they didn't have time to sit around and wait. Hopefully the warrior could meet Echosong and Houndpaw here. She could tell the young apprentice needed a break from the Shadowclan stench in the camp. Not that I blame her...

The older molly's paws padded quietly through the territory, nose pointed towards the sky. "It seems Riverclan has learned to keep their distance." She commented to the apprentice over her shoulder. "Have you been to this border before Houndpaw?"

Wasn't there supposed to be three cats on this patrol? Houndpaw was pretty sure Shimmertail was supposed to be coming, too, but it didn't seem like the molly was going to show. Sucks to suck, that's what she said. The Siamese followed Echosong out to Smallpine's, tail flicking to and fro at the scent of RiverClan. She hadn't smelled that since... since Dogspirit... Yeah, no. She wasn't going to think about this anymore.

Rolling her shoulders at Echosong's comment, Houndpaw scoffed lightly. "For now. Wait until another leader of theirs gets unhinged again. They won't pay heed to the borders then." Had she been to this border before? No, she stayed away from RiverClan. Obviously, the cats were psycho. Shaking her head, the apprentice blinked heather blue hues at the warrior. "No. I've only ever been to the Thunderglade and beyond that."

Shimmertail’s eyes were glowing with hurry as she sprinted towards Smallpines. She vaguely remembered being assigned to a patrol but it seemed that she had fallen asleep for some reason. She stopped as she reached the border and started catching her breath. Once she had, she looked at her patrol mates. “Sorry I’m late. Let’s get to marking the border.” She huffed.

The older molly let out a hum at Houndpaw's comment. Unfortunately the apprentice had a point. It seemed like every few moons the Fish cat's leader went unhinged and eventually attacked Thunderclan. She had hope when Kestrelstar became the new leader... but her hopes were quickly dashed when he led a patrol of poison clawed cats into her home and killed her clanmates. She shuddered at the memory.

"Then let's mark the border and get out of here. I don't like hanging around need Riverclan any more than you do kitto."

Her gaze left Houndpaw to greet Shimmertail. Humor glinted in Echosong's blue eyes at Shimmertail's heavy breathing. Can't say I didn't sleep through a few patrols back in my day. She stifled a purr, knowing all three of them would rather be back home than standing near the border.

"Shimmertail, I want you to mark over by the river. Please take care not to fall in." She mrrowed with a smile. "Houndpaw, I want you marking over from that large boulder to where we stand. I can get the rest." She waited for any questions before quickly marking her assigned part of the border, keeping her ears perked for any problems.

Heather blue eyes, both calm and slightly annoyed as Shimmertail came sprinting up to join them. Knowing that she would be a major hypocrite if she said anything, Houndpaw just flicked her tail in greeting to the older molly. Anyways, Echosong seemed to agreed that RiverClan's leadership usually ended in ThunderClan losing a leader. Or, in Lionstorm's case, an apprentice, a leader, a former medicine cat, and oh, what was the other one?

Oh yeah, a queen who had one and a half moon old kits in the nursery. Who could forget that? With a soft grunt of acknowledgement towards Echosong's agreement, the Siamese scuffled her paws, waiting for the orders that would most definitely be uttered. Sure enough, they came, and the apprentice plodded towards said boulder. Making a quick job of marking the scent lines, she hummed a bit while doing it. Not because she enjoyed it, but because humming stemmed her ever growing insanity.

If any of the other molly's happened to look over to check on Houndpaw's progress, they would be met with a flushed, fierce glare, for the apprentice was very self-conscious and aware of how stupid marking the border made her look.

Echosong finished her duties a bit quicker than the other two, and decided to clean her paws while she waited. She did her best to avoid Houndpaw's fierce stare. She might bust out in an affectionate smile that was sure to piss the apprentice off. I remember being the same way all those moons ago. Was I also that adorable?

She also noted the sheepishness still residing in Shimmertail. The warrior made a mental note to invite her out hunting sometime. Show there were no hard feelings.

Once everyone gathered back, she led their patrol back to the clan. She sent a quick thank you to anyone listening that it was an uneventful one. With a smile to the two, she set off.

Sparrowskip nodded to his patrolmates as they both arrived, and tired it seemed. It wasn't surprising, Sparrowskip was tired on pretty much every patrol he went on. "Since you're both here, we should get a move on." Sparrowskip said, flicking his tail in the direction of Smallpines, and he began making his way there.

The oriental gave a nod, walking behind the two. His tail low, ears swiveling to the sounds of the land with typical curiosity. Wormbite trembled at the cold air, a frown etched into his expression as if everything was being a personal annoyance to him today. His nose twitched, nearing the border they shared with Thunderclan. He had a running theme of being sent on patrols to this one particular side. Not once Windclan, no, of course not. With a huff, he began to mark along the border. Eyes half-lidded with tiredness, he didn't have many thoughts today. Hm. Someone must have stolen them.

Buckbranch fixed Lotuspaw with an apologetic smile and a shake of his head. "Sorry, kiddo, but I'm taking over for this one. Maybe next time." He nodded to Moosecrash and turned to lead the way out of camp.

As they reached Smallpines, he broke away from the other two to brush up against a patch of overgrown brush, a distasteful look cast at the slushy ground as mud began to cling to his paws. Ugh. Starting to regret going out, he thought bitterly. Fleetingly, he glanced across the border at RiverClan territory, then back at his patrolmates with an encouraging, albeit strained, smile. "Let's get this done as quick as possible - I'd like to avoid having my ears torn off, if at all possible."

I haven't been in Thunderclan very long... I wonder if Buckbranch can fill me in?
Catching up to the other warrior, Moosecrash turned his gaze to Buckbranch. "I hope you don't mind, my asking, sir, but I haven't been in Thunderclan very long, so I was hoping you might educate me on why the rivalry with Riverclan is so... Intense?" With a twitch of his tail he nodded across the border. "As far as I know, we've always been a bit off and on. But the coyotes we drove out of our camp found their way across the border and into RiverClan's camp, where they killed Lionstorm's father." His fault - he should have sent out a patrol to follow the canines to the outskirts. "He was angry and grieving and I don't blame him. When he... killed me, he caught me by this border." A pause, a nervous swallow paired with a sweeping look. "He thought I'd killed someone else. So he took my lives, and then three others before he died himself. Then, of course, Kestrelstar inherited his anger, and that's why he raided ThunderClan. It's been a circle of death and bloodshed, and even though Aspenstar and Kestrelstar organized a truce... there's always been tension and I don't foresee it going away anytime soon."

Lotuspaw narrowed their gaze at Buckbranch, a pout forming over their lips with personal offense that this big cat would even deny their chance at leading a patrol. "Stinkyyy, " Lotuspaw responded with a huff, twirling on their heel to stomp after the two. Their whiskers twitched as they exited the camp, beginning to approach the grr, GRR!!! The other two big cats were talkin' but to be honest, they didn't bother, only stare aggressively at the land stretched out behind the border that divided them.

Their little stub tail lashed in distaste, such a horrible, yucky, smelly, fishy, scent!!! Despite their better judgement, the apprentice began to mark along the border with a huff. Not very pleased but Lotuspaw was gifted with a job and job they shall do! It did make them wonder if fish ,, tasted good ,,, if Riverclan liked them so much... Maybe they could try some. They were very good at pretending.

Brushing up against their nearby surroundings, paws skidded across the muddy terrain and a startled gasp escaped from them. Lotuspaw blinked, tilting their head with interest piqued. Huh. They took a few steps back and then a couple more before running at the patch of mud with a yip of glee. Small paws barely skidded across before they faceplanted into it. Mud covered their pelt and mischievous giggles escaped from them, rolling about happily. Hehehe.

A, easy, simple patrol. Wormbite was beginning to finish up but as he marked one last thing - there was a sudden woosh and a dreadful caw. Oh no. Throughout his life he had forgotten his sworn enemy of the black-feathered devils. Unable to recall when this hatred had bubbled between him and the crows - it was a constant at least. Wormbite hated crows. Crows hated him. It was in simple terms, a never-ending battle.

A hiss startles from the oriental and he whirls around, misty eyes darting about the skyline. "No, no. Bad!" He hissed, claws unsheathing as his fur bristled. There's another caw and he is convinced they are laughing at him - how dare they? It swoops down, nipping at the short ends of his fur. It doesn't stay for long.

Wormbite spun around again and when there's another caw, he decides it's time to retreat. Yikes, especially with his sickness? He quickly sprints away from the scene and the crows are keen to follow after. "Shoo! Argh!" Wormbite yowls, skidding across -- mud? Ugh, he ducks behind Sparrowskip. "Are you done? Please say you are finished." He states breathlessly.

He gave a nod as the history was explained to him. "I see. And now that Aspenstar is gone, the future is a bit up in the air," he mused, trying to keep his deep, baritone voice from echoing. Padding along with the patrol, he turned as he heard a splash and laughter from Lotuspaw. The apprentice had jumped into the mud and was playing around. A deep, resounding chuckle escaped his muzzle, and he padded over to the mud puddle.
"Having fun there?" He inquired before sticking his own large paw into the mud, amused by the way it oozed in between his claws. With a quick swipe, he launched a splash of mud towards the apprentice, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. The younger members of the clan always amused him greatly.

Buckbranch quickly broke his gaze away from Moosecrash as Lotuspaw yelped, heart stuttering with the fear that the apprentice might have somehow been in danger. His shoulders slouched when he noticed the young cat had merely slipped on the muddy ground and had begun flinging themselves into it. A snort of amusement pushed itself from his nose and he found himself grinning down at Lotuspaw. It wasn't everyday the younger cats of ThunderClan had the opportunity to just have fun anymore. "Afraid so," he answered the other warrior after a moment. Then, after a pause, added thoughtfully, "I... have hope, though. That it'll work out."

Man, it felt so good to be able to say that.

He moved away to finish up the rest of the border, cast a mischievous glance over his shoulder at Moosecrash when he was done, then scooped up a pawful of mud and chucked it at the other tom. He supposed a tiny bit of fun before they headed back wouldn't hurt...

The gooey texture was strange on their pelt, the way it squished between their toes - it amused the apprentice to great lengths. (They could practically hear Mama's lecture now.) The giggles only took a slight pause when a shadow loomed over Lotuspaw. Glancing up with a sheepish look, they stare at Moosecrash. A few beats of silence and then they slowly reply, "What's upp, my dude?" and laugh, shoulders shaking with entertainment.

It was quickly cut short as suddenly a splash of mud hit them, covering their brown fur in even more minerals. A dramatic gasp escapes Lotuspaw, "You did not!! You!! AYE!" They squeal, bouncing up to their paws. There are a few splotches of mud on their face. Any idea about not going to overboard was forgotten. Ears perking up, they watched Buckbranch throw a glob of mud at Moosecrash.

Mischievous grew across Lotuspaw's face, mirroring the grins that laced the toms'. They picked up a pawful of mud and aimed it at Moosecrash. Oh, ho, ho, they were not done!! Otterfluff
Meandering along the stream that divided RiverClan land from ThunderClan territory, Otterfluff was alert and watchful. His eyes swept the path before him in a fluid motion and took into account the sight of a few birds sitting nestled on the branches above all the way down to the bushy tail of a squirrel that was darting in and out of the undergrowth on ThunderClan's side. Despite the sighting of prey the fluffy brown tom was not here to hunt today; it was simply time he took out of the day to clear his mind on a peaceful walk.

...So why he had selected Smallpines was beyond him, but so far his nose had not detected a whiff of ThunderClan scent. If the gathering last moon was any indication, they certainly had their paws full with ShadowClan and Dawnstar's takeover. Nothing had been mentioned yet by Sparrowskip on if he would bring RiverClan to their aide, though Otterfluff hoped that just this once they could stay out of the mess created by their neighbors.

It was not the scent that drew his attention away from a peculiar sight in the middle of his path - a small, baby pine tree growing steadily nearby - but the sound of squeals and laughter. Muscles remained relaxed as the RiverClan warrior slipped around the side of the riverbank, blue eyes dotted with curiosity as the sight revealed itself to him; three ThunderClanners across the border engaging in a... was that mud?

This was rather peculiar, yet Otterfluff said nothing as his paws ascended a smooth rock that jutted out a little bit over the stream. Whiskers twitched in a subtle display of amusement, his hind quarters settling down into a comfortable seated position. His plume like tail swept across to dangle off the edge of the rock while his shoulders rolled back. "What... peculiar tactics ThunderClan has adopted," Otterfluff finally said, his tone holding a hint of lighthearted humor in it. Blue eyes settled on the three across the river, studying each of them. Nothing about his posture or presence suggested hostility despite the infamous history that lined their shared border. He desired none of the familiar dramatics today.

Then his eyes widened as the tom leaped full-force into the puddle, and did his best to scramble out of the way. He narrowly avoided being completely doused, but still ended up with a bit of splatter. Laughing, he raised a forepaw to send another wave in their direction.

A voice behind him made him jump and turn his head, joyfulness immediately replaced with caution as he blinked at the RiverClan warrior across the border. He glanced to the others and then back to Otterfluff uncertainly, and cleared his throat with a small, awkward smile. "Uh... sure. Something like that."

He turned back to his patrol-mates, took a moment to get as much mud as possible out of his coat, and then jerked his head in the direction of camp. "All right, enough fun, clean yourselves up and let's head back. Don't wanna track mud all over the place."

Lotuspaw flopped onto the ground, attempting to roll away, but their effort was useless, more mud coating their pelt by the second. The sudden splash took them by surprise, oh boy, this was going to be a pain to wash off eventually but, in the moment, - they couldn't really care? (It had been so long since they felt normal. Not to mention, feeling apart of Thunderclan.) They giggle, kicking the mud with their backpaws in retaliation.

Before they could make a proper move, rising to their paws once more - they glanced to Buckbranch who suddenly seemed distracted. Lotuspaw's eyebrows furrowed in confuse, tilting their head to the side. "Eh??" They mew, looking to where the warrior stared at with caution.

It took them a few moments of staring at Otterfluff to have it click inside their mind. "NO! Argh! You!!!" They squeaked aggressively, mud-riddled fur bushing up. They bounced to the edge of the river, glaring daggers at the STINKY FISH CAT. "GO!!!! You SUCK!!! BYE!!! Fish, fish CAT!! Grrr!!!" Lotuspaw hissed, stomping their paws on the ground. "You - you look, I DON'T KNOW!! Sucky, YEAH!! Wanna - wanna interrupt our uhm, important business, grrr, " They weren't entirely sure why they kept trying to mimic the funny dogs but it always made the dogs seemed scary, so.

Standing and shaking his pelt to remove some of the mud, Moosecrash looked at Lotuspaw with a slight scowl. "That's no way to speak to a warrior of any clan, Lotuspaw, especially when he is making no gestures to imply hostility," he said, scolding lightly. Turning to the Riverclan warrior across the water, the tom dipped his head respectfully.
"Just taking a fun little break from all the recent events," he called lightheartedly as he climbed from the puddle.
Taking a moment to sit and clean his large paws, his hazel eyes watched the tom across the border, fascinated. He hadn't had much interaction with the other clans, so meeting a warrior he did not know was an exciting experience in his mind.

Otterfluff
Ah. Well, a short lived meeting it seemed to be. While he had shown no hostility, Otterfluff was not naive enough to believe that there was no hatred within the hearts of the ThunderClan cats. RiverClan had escalated matters and that much bloodshed was not easily forgotten. Forgiveness did not come when asked for, and sometimes it never came at all. Hopefully, these cats would have enough sense to not blame the entirety of a Clan for the actions of a few.

Words burned his tongue, ones that he wished to say in order to preserve this fleeting moment where cats could simply be cats and just talk. But still the border that separated them flared up as Buckbranch composed himself and ordered the patrol back to camp.

Despite his best efforts, Otterfluff was unable to thwart his whiskers as they danced in amusement along his maw. Blue eyes glittered humorously as the mud came hurtling at him. An easy step to the side and subsequent duck of his head and it sailed right over him. "Impressive throw," he called to the apprentice, who seemed to have their anger dissolve as they turned back towards camp.

On the other paw, it seemed the third member of their patrol was a little more receptive to his presence. Otterfluff returned the nod of his head, a faint smile traced along his face. "As we should all do, or else lose ourselves to our duties completely," he returned just as lighthearted, a certain twinkle in his eye. Still, he rose to his paws and waved his tail in a farewell manner towards the cats. "May StarClan light your path."

With that, the RiverClan tom leapt off his rock and cast one last look towards the three ThunderClanners before turning and slipping back into his territory and disappearing from view.

➤ Mistyshade made her way over to the RiverClan border, occasionally swinging her head to look over her shoulder and check if Emberpaw and Mistpaw were following. She hoped they'd let go of their nervosity soon, since there really was nothing to be anxious about. When she arrived, bright green orbs settled on the path they had walked as she waited for the two young she-cats.

"Have any of you marked a border before?"

Giving a small dip of her head in greeting to Emberpaw, Mistpaw murmured a quick, "Nice to meet you. I'm uh... Mistpaw," before quickly scurrying out to follow Mistyshade as they left camp. The closer they got to their assigned border however, the more _i c k y_ the ground started to feel. It was the season for mud after the snow melts apparently.

Scrunching her face in displeasure as the sticky earth squished under her paws, Mistpaw quickly tried to shake it off as Mistyshade asked her question.

"This is um, my first time doing this," she stated softly, giving her front paw another shake to try and dislodge the mud that had gotten caught there.

Following after her patrol partners, the orange apprentice shook her head.
"I h-haven't d-d-done this before either," she confessed, looking around as they padded along the border. The mud didn't bother her, she could always clean it off of her pelt later, she had too much on her mind right now to be concerned about a little dirt.

Mistyshade chuckled a little. It wasn't the easiest to explain territory marking, but she was sure Emberpaw and Mistpaw would catch on soon. The molly decided to demonstrate first, rubbing her tail against the mud of the border. Them she turned back to the two apprentices. "Okay, so I basically just demonstrated. All you have to do is rub your tail, cheek or paws against the mud and ThunderClan scent will be fresh once again. I suggest using your tail or your paws, those are probably already dirty anyways."
She'd noticed that Mistpaw was a little bothered by the mud, but hopefully that would pass. After all, with everything going on in ThunderClan mud shouldn't be the first thing on their minds. The feline gave the two young mollies nods, indicating that they could begin whenever they wanted.

"We can split the job into three. I'll do the larger middle part, Emberpaw you can go left a little and Mistpaw, do the right part. Is that fine with both of you?"
Mistyshade wasn't the best at giving instructions, but moons of teaching apprentices had made it almost a habit to her. She carefully waited for Emberpaw and Mistpaw's reaction, not wanting to go to quickly with them. They were still learning, that was for sure, and she didn't want to rush them.

THAT'S what marking the border entailed???

Reluctantly Mistpaw hummed her acknowledgment with a nod towards Mistyshade, before picking her way over towards the right side of the border. Perhaps it wouldn't be as muddy over here?... No it was worse. Much worse. A quiet hiss of disgust escaped her jaws as one paw sunk ankle-deep into the sticky ground. Nope. Nopenopenopenopenope. She brushed her pelt against some of the foliage around her section of the border before training her reluctantly gaze at the clear stretch of mud before her.

It was going to take moons to get all the mud cleaned from her fur... Taking a deep breath in preparation, she let her tail drop... Right into the cold, sticky, icky mud. A shudder passed through her and she carefully continued her tortured march of marking the border.

"Okay, I c-can do that," she responded, a little unsure. She began to pad away to the left side of the border, but then hesitated.
Is it safe to go alone?
Looking back for a moment, she watched as Mistpaw headed off in the opposite direction. Taking a deep breath to steady her nerves, she continued, taking moments to leave scent on the nearby plants. Her orange pelt quivered with anxiety as her amber eyes darted back and forth, her anxiety making her hyper-vigilant.

Mistyshade nodded in acknowledgement as they padded off to complete their work. Calmly, she started marking her part of the border, unbothered by the mud. She'd done it many times before so it did not pose any problems. Her job was done quickly, and she observed Mistpaw and Emberpaw carefully. If any danger was present, she would react quickly, even with her limp.
Oh, yeah. The molly now remembered that she had a limp. Most of the time, she didn't even notice it anymore. By now it was a routine to be unable to set all four of her paws on the ground.
"I think we're done here."
With a soft smile, she waited for the two apprentices' to finish up their job and join her.
"You've done really well. I know it's kind of disgusting to mark a border with the mud everywhere, but the job has to be completed still. Otherwise we might have RiverClan on our tails and we don't want that."
Mistyshade's gaze darkened as she remembered Lionstorm - the RiverClan tom who had murdered Bucksta- Buckbranch, because apparently ThunderClan had chased the coyotes into their camp. But it hadn't been their fault at all. They'd tried to prevent as much death as possible, so why would they want to kill an elder?
And Lionstorm had been way more ruthless and cruel, anyways. Tearing her thoughts away from the miserable history ThunderClan had, Mistyshade focused on the young she-cats' once again.

"C-Can we g-g-go home t-then?" She asked anxiously. She didn't want to stay at the edge of the territory any longer than she had to. Being this close to the border made her nervous, more so than usual, and the apprentice's orange tail was fluffed up to reflect this.

One paw in front of the other... Just keep putting one paw in front...

Mistpaw's silent mantra echoed on repeat in her head as she dragged herself through the mud back towards Mistyshade and Emberpaw. Her usually reserved face was twisted into an unpleasant grimace as her tail got colder by the second and each paw squelched their way through the icky ground.

At Mistyshade's call to finish however, Mistpaw's ears perked up ever so slightly as she sped up the last few mouse-lengths to reach her goal.

"Oh thank the stars," she mumbled, dragging her tail up out of the muck and grimacing as she tried to flick off the accumulated ick. "Yeah um... Did we do it right?"

She desperately wanted to get back to camp and get to work cleaning the mud from her fur, but she definitely didn't want to get into trouble for not doing her assigned job properly.

➢ Padding through the beautiful and lush forest that made up the hunting grounds of Riverclan, the long-furred tomcat hummed a little tune as the three of them swiftly made it to their shared borderline with Thunderclan -- a place known as the Smallpines. The last time Snowleap had been here was quite awhile ago, with Kestrelstar and Wormbite. The memory was hardly sweet, being mostly bitter as they turned away a cat known as Buckbranch from joining Riverclan. It was over and done with now though, so it didn’t really matter. He did wonder what happened with that brown-and-white tomcat though. Approaching the borderline, Snowleap parted his jaws and breathed in the mixed scents of his clan and their tree-climbing neighbors. “Let’s all split-up and make sure everything is properly marked. Whitepaw, you can go right. Oakwhisker, you head left. I’ll make sure this middle portion is taken care of and we’ll all meet back here when it’s done.” He cast a glance at both his patrolmates, giving them a short dip of his head before proceeding to mark the Riverclan/Thunderclan border, rubbing his sides along the trees and bushes that were present in this area. It was a simple, but repetitive task that he did not hesitate to perform.

Sometimes, going to Smallpines was a strange experience. Jaystride had a distant memory of tall trees that loomed overhead; of laughter in pursuit of a lost friend, before it melted away in a blaze.

Now all that was left was these trees. Planted some time ago, still children in the eyes of a forest. Jaystride wavered as he neared the water, not from uncertainty but from a pang in his chest. The familiar burn within his body that kept him going was fading.

He marked the border. He made the markers as strong as he could, because that's what he was going to do for ThunderClan. For those lost along the way. For his brother.

Even if it killed him.

On his way back to camp, he'd do another detour. Go on a hunt. Maybe find some of that plant again.

He checked for places where the Riverclan scents were at their weakest and made them strong again. It was simple, quick and effective. However, as Snowleap was padding back to the place where the patrol had all been together last, two small bumblebees came buzzing over to the Riverclan shield, hovering by his ears. This made the oriental longhair jump in alarm and whip around, wildly swiping at the bees. “Gah! Get away!” They hissed lowly under their breath, hating the flying creatures with a passion. His bushy tail lashed behind him as he did this. To his dismay, the several bees did not leave him, continuing to buzz around his head. Snowleap started to get worried that he was gonna get stung. Hah, Jaystride was amused with Bumblepaw as he joined the apprentice near the border. There was a familiar sound in the air, one he knew to be the buzz of bees, but for a second he brushed it aside to focus on the task at paw. "These fish-slugs aren't usually stopped by border markers." He joined Bumblepaw in refreshing the markers, muzzle twitching. "But having them choke on their own blood helps." One day, they'd make this a reality. They just needed some more time..

His attention was piqued at what appeared to be movement on the other side of the border. Was that a patrol? Puurrrfect....... Jaystride had an idea. >:3

"Hold on just a moment." He took a look around to access where their buzzing was coming from, until his gaze landed on what appeared to be a bee hive. It was attached to a branch overhanging the river. "You thinking what I'm thinking, Bumblepaw?"

"Definitely," he agreed. RiverClan had done nothing but hurt him for as long as he had known of their existence; if ever he was given the opportunity to give them a taste of their own medicine, he was going to take it. For now, though, he glanced over to where Jaystride had directed his own attention to. His heart squeezed in on itself, out of contempt and not fear. If that was a patrol, Bumblepaw was going to have words and maybe more, borders be damned.

The humming seemed to have turned into buzzing the longer he'd stood there, and once again his gaze followed Jaystride's, coming to rest on a golden hive practically swarming with bees. His eyes swiveled over to Jaystride, alight with mischief. "Giving some RiverClanners a beeting? Hell yes."

BEAR.
April 27th, 2022, 10:06 AM
Though Jaystride could've enlisted Bumblepaw in going after the beehive, he decided that might be kind of a jerk move. The bees would be pissed by the removal of their hive, and it something went wrong he didn't want Bumblepaw to take the brunt of the bee-ting. "Hang in there and enjoy the show." Because if this didn't work and backfired on Jaystride, at least Bumblybutt could enjoy watching him flail in water as the fury of a thousand tiny bumbles descended upon him.

In a fluid motion, Jaystride launched onto the tree and scaled it with ease. Getting to the overhanging branch was no problem. Walking along it without disturbing the hive was a little more difficult, but he managed to keep himself pretty well balanced as he neared the golden hive. These critters were honestly fascinating, the construction of their hive was remarkable for things so small and stupid looking.

They seemed to be concerned by his presence, buzzing around him in light protest as he readied his paw. He released a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding.

[ D20, odds hit, evens miss. Jay rolled a 15. ]

And then he whacked it. Thankfully, during this he managed to retain his balance, and he watched as the hive flew toward the RiverClan patrol. The bees were angrily buzzing around it, some stray ones took their wrath out on him, but the pain of the stings were minimal as he watched the slow-mo esque scene with glittering eyes.

"Whoops!" That 'wasn't' supposed to happen. All he wanted was some honey!!! What will he tell Sundust now....................

➢ Muttering under his breath irritably, the tall oriental longhair managed to shoo the few bees away from his location, allowing him to sit down and relax as he awaited for Oakwhisker and Whitepaw to return from marking their parts of the border. Unfortunately for the Riverclan shield (this patrol takes place before he is named deputy), his day was about to become so much worse. He closed his eyes for the moment, inhaling and then exhaling a breath. Perhaps they could just listen to the soothing noises of nature like Snowleap usually did when they were alone out here.

However, such peace was short-lived as the sound of a sharp WHACK could be heard and soon the sound of angry bees started to become louder and louder. As their eyes flew open, there was hardly enough time to react as the hive of bees collided with the Riverclan tomcat, splatting his fur with honey. “What the-" He exclaimed before fear blossomed from within Snowleap, “Aahh!” A yowl of terror could be heard from them as he leapt to their paws and peeled away from the border, off to somewhere in Riverclan’s inner hunting grounds. A swarm furious bees following him, though several were already stuck to his fur and in the sticky honey. His first instinct was to head to water and Snowleap knew the rivers here like the back of his paw. Soon enough, the frantic dark-furred shield dived into the water, avoiding any more stings from the raging flying insects. Hopefully it also helps get some of the honey off his fur.

Bushpaw came…rather late, to say the least. Late enough to see a bee hive go splat right on a Riverclan warrior, and then have bees all go after them. Bushpaw whipped his head around to the other two cats on his patrol, and gave them a glare. “What are you guys thinking?! You don’t just mess with other clans? You guys are gonna get us in trouble!” He placed a mental note in his head to stop sounding like an old elder reprimanding naughty kits. He looked back to the warrior, and stifled a laugh, but it was only a small one. There was another cat there, but it didn’t seem they cared at all. That was good- but he just hoped nothing bad happened because his two patrol mates were being nut-brained. ”Alright, what’s your plan now? Maybe stock up on cobwebs, how about we sharpen our claws before go off to war for messing with Riverclan.” Bushpaw was most honestly overreacting, it was just that Thunderclan was facing way too much, doing funny pranks on another clan that they rivaled with was most definitely not good. Why no one thought to maybe, at least, try to talk with ThunderClan and get to the bottom of this whole thing confused him. After all, it had been misunderstandings such as these ones that had let them to battle in the first place.

Hazelstorm padded to Smallpines. She examined her surroundings as the Shields arrived and pricked her ears, listening to what Shimmerbird was saying. The brown tabby cat found it strange that ThunderClan liked picking on other Clans when they could barely hold themselves together in one piece. It was of her opinion that ThunderClan should really start acting more like a Clan than triggering their fellow Clans. Silly them.

Shimmerbird's eyes were narrowed. Hazelstorm looked at her as she told the Shields to check the whole length of the border to ensure that no ThunderClanners had trespassed. Sure, why not? The oriental offered no commentary, traveling through the evergreen with a practiced silence. There were no thoughts that passed through Wormbite's head, walking behind his clanmates. A decent tail-length away from them if only to avoid any attempts of small talk. Thunderclan was -.. unpleasant. This was no surprise to him to hear they had been causing trouble after their pathetic act at the gathering. If they managed to arise from the ashes - maybe it would be the day he finally got a nice, fulfilled rest.

It was perfect for fishing and swimming! Oh well, maybe the storm would move on quickly. "Alright, so to mark the scent, just rub yourself over things like rocks, trees, all that good stuff. We gotta show it to those tree-climbers that this is our. territory, not there's, yeah?"

Golden'Nose instructed, rubbing his cheek across a large boulder that stuck out of the ground. The scent of river-water and fish would easily be smelt, hopefully it'd even drift across the border. This territory was clearly theirs, and ThunderClan wouldn't change that. •

Cricketsting nodded to Golden'Nose's order and padded to a spot that smelt like faint fish. While searching, the tabby was thinking about how to make this patrol task less boring. He shook his head from the kitten-like thoughts, telling himself that there is no time to be a kit.

When he founded a spot -a tree- , he marked his scent over it.

Why were there so many flies around..?
Golden'Nose, suddenly a little afraid of what the patrol may stumble across, Golden'Nose padded back towards them, flicking his tail and giving a small purr to catch their attention.

"You guys are doing great, but there's lots of flies over here, should we check it out? I don't wanna go back to camp and have Snow'Leap or Sky'Star find a corpse or something. We could be the ones to blame,"
Waiting for their reaction, Golden'Nose gazed back towards where the millions of flies were, squinting his eyes wearily. •

Cricketsting looked back at his new friend as he got done marking. "Hm? You said something?" the light-cream warrior pondered on what Golden'Nose was saying when Cricketsting was thinking back to plans on making this trip fun. His fur heated as he heard himself basically told Golden'Nose 'sorry I wasn't listening'! He felt like wanting to apologize to the golden warrior, but instead he felt like something got in his ear. He lifted his paw and scratched it until he heard an annoying and unstable buzzing. Soon a blurry black spot got out of his ear and passed by his vision. "Flies?" He soon noticed more tiny black spots. Why so many flies?, he thought to himself. He snapped his head back at the apprentice's shriek.

"What is it?" His fur ruffled up, unsheathing his claws. If Bluepaw found someone that may attack the patrol, Cricketsting was prepared to slice their ears!

Bluepaw backed up. "There's... A dead cat here." He held his breath and grabbed the leg of the cat and dragged it away from the flies. The flies followed, of course, so the white furred tomcat gave up. The cat had a dark brown pelt and a small muzzle. It looked like a male. Bluepaw stared at the dead cat. He sniffed it and looked back at the others. "This cat must have been a rouge and died to starvation. Look how skinny and malnutritioned he is." He mewed, tilting his head at the dead cat.

> Batblood zenosaurus poppy. [Sorry for the delay, I already sent an extension request to Jayvines ]

The dark tom had chosen to sit outside the warriors' den today, instead of seeking himself to the cooler shadows along the camp walls, and his golden eyes calmly follow Sparrowflight as the deputy went ahead and called out the patrols, but he closed his eyes once more as his name wasn't being called. Though he opened them again when the deputy actually called for him. A light frown danced over his face at first until he heard it was for a replacement. Disappointing the other cat hadn't shown up, but slackers were unavoidable sometimes he supposed.

With fluid movements, the feline rose up and approached Cloudyflight and Brightpath, two of the many cats he had been made a warrior along with. He didn't wish of waste more time and only greeted them with a little nod before he continued outside. The Riverclan border it was. He didn't care much about the fishing cats. They and Thunderclan had their fights, but it was noting personal, and he thought some of the actual reasons were a bit dumb. Either way there was work to be done, and Batblood began to move along the border and mark it, assuming Brightpath and Cloudyflight would enjoy each other's company more than his. He knew he preferred his own company over either of theirs right now - nothing personal again, just how he liked things to be.

Brightpath | they/she/he
➢ Thankfully, after Sparrowflight called for Batblood to replace Cardinalpaw, the other newly-named warrior showed up a few brisk moments later. Brightpath remembered him from the group of apprentices that were made warriors after the battle for the cove, though they hadn’t spoken to one another personally. Sure, they had basically grown up together in ThunderClan, but the two of them were in different social standings if that made any sense. At least the lean calico knew he wouldn’t mess around.

Once the dark tomcat padded over to join the two of them, the slender tortoiseshell returned the gentle nod and then glanced at Cloudyflight before their little patrol continued onward. Hopefully this little delay wouldn’t cause them to be late. The last thing that Brightpath wanted was to upset Sparrowflight or Cinderstar. If they all acted quick, then this would be over in no time.

Their task was to mark the RiverClan border. Brightpath wasn’t too familiar to the area, but it wasn’t a brand-new place that they had never seen before either. Their task was to mark the RiverClan border. Brightpath wasn’t too familiar to the area, but it was not a brand-new place that they had never seen before either. Thank StarClan. As Batblood went off on his own to mark a section of the borderline, the young warrior wondered what the best course of action would be next. They were the one in charge, yeah?

“Right, so uh, you can go mark the area opposite to Batblood,” Brightpath mewed to Cloudyflight, nodding their head in another direction, “I’ll make sure this area in the middle is well-scented. We’ll all meet back in the middle. Sound good?”

Part of them didn’t want to separate from the pretty molly, but the thinly-framed feline knew better than to act that way during a patrol. They didn’t have time to be clingy or mushy or anything like that. This was serious, after all. ThunderClan was counting on all of them to do their best and come back to camp on time in an orderly fashion. Yeah. Once Brightpath, Cloudyflight and Batblood did this, then there would be nothing more to worry about for the rest of the day, surely. Everything was gonna be fine.

Cloudyflight hurried along, only unbalanced slightly by her blatant tripodness. Her clear blue eyes shifted to scan the undergrowth, and she briefly brushed up against Brightpath, giving them a gentle and soft nuzzle when she was sure that Batblood wasn't watching. Public displays of affection during a job were... Not her cup of tea.

She licked her lips, nodding in response to where Brightpath gestured for her to do, and she padded over to the section of border, and made quick work of marking it and moving on, but lacing it strong enough that it couldn't be missed accidentally. Of course, she was sure to not do too strong. She didn't want to be the reason RiverClan became unhinged murderers again.

> Batblood zenosaurus poppy. [Our extension ends on the 25th, I had this pre-typed but won't have access to my computer or reliable enough internet then, so if you could finish and report that'd be great ^^ ]

The black tom advanced steadily forward and mark the border. One ear twitched and turned to vaguely listen to Brightpath's and Cloudyflight's talking. But it didn't seem to be anything too interesting. They two chose to split up to speed up the work, which he must say he did appreciate, but other than that she didn't care much. He finished and was about to turn back when suddenly a high-pitched sound darted over his head. He winced and lowered his head, eyes squeezing shut not in fear but in pain and the sharp sound seemed to cut through the air like claws at his ears. He had fine senses, and noises like this could be quite painful if loud of high enough. There it went again. He glanced up to see a hummingbird. Ah, it must be mad they were here and had chosen to settle it like this. Well, if that was what it truly wanted Batblood had no problem with that.

The warrior lowered his head a little again and took a few steps away from it - an unthreatening pose - and the bird took the bait, swishing over his head once more. But Batblood was ready this time. A quick strike as his paw shot through the air, just bearly missing the bird. His intent wasn't to kill it - the little bite was hardly worth it - but doing this did get it to shut up and leave him alone, so he was satifyed. After being left in peace he checked the border one last time before heading back to the rest of his patrol and offering a short nod to signal he was done and ready to head back.

Brightpath | they/she/he
➢ Feeling Cloudyflight give them a short, but affectionate nuzzle, the slender tortie allowed a deep purr to rumble from the base of their throat. They weren’t used to physical touch in any sense, but they’d be lying if they said they didn’t love every moment that the beautiful white-furred molly did stuff like this. Of course, Brightpath soon focused back at the task at hand, there would be better opportunities to dwell on mushy feelings later. Now was the time for the three of them get this job done and head back.

The thinly-framed calico gave their comforting companion a warm smile before watching her leave to mark her section of the border. With that, Brightpath hummed and stepped towards their own portion, rubbing their body against the trees and bushes that were present in this area of the forest. Their green-hued eyes flickered over to RiverClan's grounds, but only for a moment.

An unfamiliar, high-pitched noise drew Brightpath away from their trace and they turned to see Batblood being harassed by what appeared to be a small bird. Oh. Watching the other young warrior get into a stance, the tortoiseshell feline observed in silence as he swiped a paw through the air. Originally, Brightpath was expecting him to try and catch it, but thankfully, it all seemed to be nothing more than a scare for the bird to get the message. They eyed the fast-flying little creature as it darted away somewhere else. After that was all done, Batblood started to pad over to where Brightpath was standing. Their patrol was nearly finished.

Once again, the ThunderClan warrior returned the small nod to their fellow clanmate and then turned in the direction of where Cloudyflight had walked off. “Hopefully, she’ll be back soon and then I can report back to Sparrowflight.” Brightpath said casually, their tail swishing back and forth behind them nonchalantly. They wished they could talk more, but didn't know what to really say. Cloudyflight was the only cat in ThunderClan that they really felt comfortable talking to. Social anxiety was not fun.

Brightpath's deep purr rumbled in her ear as she worked, and Cloudyflight couldn't suppress a swell ofsome warm, hard to identify emotion. It was nice, whatever it was, so she didn't think too much on it for now. But one thing she did know, was that Brightpath was the only cat in the world who could make her feel this way.

After she scented the beginning to Brightpath's section, she rubbed up again, layering that last section with her scent, then padding back over to where the other two were. She had caught the last bit of Batblood's episode, and she was very pleased to see how flustered the dark warrior was, and stifled a chuckled. "You okay? That was a pretty vicious attack." She tittered uncharacteristically, because the presence of Brightpath triggered bravery in her.

She retook her spot beside Brightpath, and nodded in the direction to camp. The fresh forest air had helped slightly with her strange nausea, but still... She didn't feel herself, but at least the headache was gone.

Hidden in the luscious branches up above where the leader had made a space for herself, she peered down with watchful blue eyes. Often times Cinderstar found herself back up in the trees again - a personal goal to get over her cowardly fear of being so far off the ground. She figured it was also about time to partake in the activity that drew her loves attention as well. And she had to admit, it did feel freeing to be so far above the ground.

Below her past the branches and leaves, she watched as the RiverClan patrol came and went, marking the borders and peering into ThunderClan territory. Cinderstar remained ready to jump down at a moments notice incase they should cross, but to their credit none of the cats seemed to think it a good idea.

Soon enough, the cat who appeared to be the leader of the patrol backed away from the border and called for the other two. Cinderstar felt her muscles relaxed though she continued to peer down at them from her hidden spot among the trees.

**Codwhisper**

With his aunt so close to having kits and his promise to stick by her side ringing through his own mind, Codwhisper slipped out of camp to take a walk. He didn't consider himself responsible enough to be a mentor, much less a father figure. He knew Doeheart wouldn't lay responsibility on him, not in the way a true father would be required to shoulder it, but he had a father who paid him no true attention. Doeheart's brother was a paws-off father up till his death while Codwhisper was still young. That feeling of mild abandonment lingered into his apprentice moons with so many mentors leaving him, ignoring him. Doeheart's kits were not really his responsibility but he felt it his duty to make sure they never felt that abandonment; he'd be the safety net of care that Doeheart had always been to him.

The spotted tom stretched as the sun warmed his back out in the open. He recalled seeing Doeheart wandering over by the Thunderclan border fairly recently so his paws were drawn that direction. He told himself he wouldn't ask, and it was truly nagging him all that much, whoever she chose to father her kits was her business, but it did strike him that she didn't have a known mate. He'd always known Doeheart to be a family-cat, she wanted a mate and kits and the whole lot. Having kits and not speaking of the father felt...odd. It would all make sense if the tom was one she wasn't supposed to be having an affair with. Codwhisper silently rolled his eyes at the Warrior Code; its stipulations against fraternizing over the borders felt outdated and divisive. The clans weren't so different and thinking about Doeheart's kits being half Thunderclan made him respect his aunt all the more. If that's where she found love then he would support her through it all.

As Thunderclan's scent wreathed around him, his ear twitched at the sound of a crackling. Hope sparked in his chest at the thought of maybe getting a peak at the potential father of his aunt's kits. As more rustling met his ears, he realized it was coming from down the border. He tried to smell the air but the noises were coming from downwind. He crouched down and stalked around, away from the Thunderclan border, then back in around the source of the noises. The scent that reached him was unmistakably cat and had a faint, almost underlying, Thunderclan scent about it but it was different. He slowly poked his head over the brush to try to get a view of the cat, suddenly realizing that the scent was definitely coming from the Riverclan side of the border. Before he could get his green eyes over the blockage, a claw poked him from behind. He jumped and spun on the cat. Slowly recognition dawned on him. The brown and white tabby pelt brought up memories that washed over Codwhisper, filling him with hope. "Beetlepaw?!" He whispered excitedly, almost disbelievingly. His kithood best fried and left Riverclan so many moons ago, not long after the pair had become apprentices together, and now here he was! "You...you're parents! Did you ever find them?" It was only after the harsh "Shh" that Codwhisper noticed the look on his old friend's face, a mixture of regret and worry and sickening recognition.

"Get outta here!" Beetlepaw's voice was rough and low.

Codwhisper shook his head. "N...no, Beetlepaw, it's been so long! You can come back, I'm sure you can. Kestrelstar died but Skystar in leader now and I'm sure he'd take you back in!"

"It's just Beetle now, and I don't want to come back. But you need to go!" his whisper was low and rushed, his amber eyes switching to the brush behind Codwhisper and back.

Codwhisper was about to resist further but the brush behind him rustled, turning his attention. At the same time, claws scored along his cheek. His head snapped back to Beetlepaw...Beetle, a look of horror and fear mingling on his face even as his bloodied claws lingered in the air. The sting of claws over Codwhisper's cheek was nothing compared to the sting of it being his best friend's claws.

A silky, sultry voice sounded behind Codwhisper but this time he didn't move his green eyes away from Beetle. "Well done, Beetle, you found one alone."

Codwhisper was still, shock settling through his body as Beetle looked to the she-cat behind him and answered stiffly, "He's not worth it, barely even part of the clan anymore, it won't have an impact."

Heart hammering into his chest, mind reeling to make anything make sense. Codwhisper slowly turned his eyes to see the black and white she-cat behind him. His back end flipped defensively away from the two rogues, his best friend who'd just attacked him and this strange she-cat, so he could face both of them on either side of him. He tried to back away but the she-cat stepped closer to him, her eyes still on Beetle. "Then we'll be rid of him quickly, maybe use him as bait to draw out some more."

Beetle shook his head, visibly trying to keep his eyes averting Codwhisper. "Delphic, it won't matter. They won't care. I know Riverclan, they won't even notice."

There was a silky laughter from the black and white rogue, her eyes moving from one young tom to the other. "Oh, I see what's going on. You know this tom." Delphic moved in on Codwhisper, her blue eyes studying the spotted tom. "Your past is dead Beetle, dispose of it. We cannot complete our mission if you still have ties in the clans. It's for the best."

Codwhisper looked from Delphic to Beetle, silently pleading. He wasn't a fighter but he couldn't die here. He needed to see that Beetle wouldn't turn on him. Beetle's brown and white face was alight with warring emotions and his head eventually shook. "It's not worth it. We can do this without killing Codwhisper."

"Codwhisper. You clan cats and all your silly names," the silky voice drawled. Codwhisper had gotten the confirmation he needed. Pushing aside his heartache amidst the confusion with his once-best friend and putting Doeheart and her kits to the forefront of his mind, Codwhisper launched himself at the black and white rogue. It struck him briefly that this was his first ever fight and he realized it was to the death, with a rogue, on his own. His claws hit their mark but a loud, "NOOO!!!" cut through his focus. He slashed at Delphic's black masked face, scoring bright ragged marks down her cheek as they rolled, but a weight shoved him out of the air and strong paws pinned him to the ground. He looked up in disbelief as he recognized Beetle on top of him. His heart sank. "Codwhisper, I'm sorry, but I need
her. She knows who my mother is."
Before Codwhisper could place his friend's words and determine his own feelings behind them, Beetle's weight was moved from him and the face above him was replaced by Delphic's. Codwhisper quickly switched gears and struck out with his back paws but they moved disorientingly through the air. Delphic had moved back and struck Codwhisper's back leg with long hooked claws. "If you aren't going to kill him then stay out of my way," she growled but Codwhisper's ears rung with the pain slicing through his back leg. He rolled to his paws and sprang at Delphic again. This time he wasn't so lucky as the first. She stepped out of the way, throwing a paw out and slamming him back to the ground. The breath was driven from him but he didn't take a heartbeat to reach out with his forepaws, grabbing her ears and shredding them in his struggle to get free. She didn't budge from on top of him though. His vision blurred as another strike came from under his chin and crushed into his jaw, leaving bleeding gashes over his lower jaw. Codwhisper struggled, kicking out with his back paws but realizing she wasn't standing over him. She wasn't a large cat but her strength was deceiving pinning him to the ground. His determination turned to desperation. He tried to meet Beetle's eyes from around Delphic's imposing paws, holding his back against the ground. Just as he caught Beetle's amber gaze, full of dread but frozen in inaction, a fire lit across Codwhisper's throat. He saw Beetle's expression shift to horror, regret, but still Beetle's paws didn't move. The image of his best friend, standing by as he bled out by the paws of his partner, began to blur and darken. Codwhisper tried to gasp but it throat was sticky and bubbling, blocking any air. The feeling of the stickiness of blood coating his grey throat was beginning to dull as his the pain receded from his body. A tear slipped out of the corner of Codwhisper's eye. Doeheart, what will Doeheart do? I'll never know my baby cousins. Beetle... Love and regret filled Codwhisper's heart just as his eyes were closing into the darkness, heavy with the words unspoken.
Delphic stepped away from the limp Riverclanner, scrapping her bloodied claws through the soggy dirt. She pulled a paw up, looking at it distastefully as the blood and dirt stuck beneath her claws. "Come on, let's fins somewhere drier where I can properly clean myself. It's such messy work, what a bother."

Beetle hardly noticed Delphic disappearing through the underbrush, his amber eyes glued to his dead best friend. What have I done? Nausea knotted his stomach. He couldn't comprehend Codwhisper being gone. The goofy kit that had befriended him, an outsider in the nursery, without even a second thought. All he ever wanted was to make friends and go on adventures. At Delphic's more distanced beckoning, Beetle swallowed roughly past the lump in his throat. He let his eyes close, hoping Codwhisper was romping happily in Starclan's hunting ground, going on all the new adventures he deserved. Feeling sick and dejected, Beetle turned and followed after where Delphic had disappeared along the border.

She wasn't exactly sure why she was out here again.

It was the day after the Gathering. She'd been jolted awake just after the sun broken the horizon and hadn't been able to go back to sleep. Still angry, she'd gotten to her paws and slipped out of camp—she hadn't even known where she'd been walking until she'd actually almost tripped into the river that separated her from those who'd plagued her Clan for so long. Her sides heaved. Her claws dug into the dirt and her fur was spiked along her back. She hated that her paws had led her here, of all places, instead of someplace quiet and peaceful, where she could curl up and go back to sleep without a care in the world. But she was here, and her paws were not moving.

She did not know how long she sat there for, until she finally noticed everything had become brighter, and a single thought materialized in her head.

Maybe this is a sign. Something telling me that I should just storm right into that camp and take her back myself.

...No. No, she couldn't. Skystar had surely already returned and, even without him present, walking in would be akin to sticking her head into a coyote's den. He had no sympathy, no heart—she would be dead in his jaws before she could blink.

With a shuddering sigh, Bumblebreak finally rose to her feet and prepared to leave... and then a twig snapped across the river. She swiveled her head back around, eyes narrowed and searching the brush on the other side. "Who's there?" she demanded.

Cricketsting thought it was a fishy idea - he chortled - to stay in RiverClan camp. He decided instead to sea -now giggling at his second pun of the day- if he could take his mind off the incident at The Gathering yesterday by going hunting.

He chased a squirrel who noticed the tabby. It was quick, Cricketsting can admit. However, losing fresh-kill was not in his plans. The cream warrior leapt and clawed at it, but it got away. Slamming his face against the muddy ground, Cricketsting lifted his head up and spat the dirt. He watched the squirrel crack a tiny twig that gave out a great pop! “Dung!” He cursed, lifting his whole body up and licked the unneeded debris. He soon twisted his head to face a voice that made him jumped. Cricketsting spotted a cat with cream and brown fur. The RiverClan warrior realized that he was at Smallpines, a border shared with Thunder and River. Hopefully he didn’t crossed the border and cause a disruption in ThunderClan’s side. Relieved that he found out that he wasn’t, he took a couple steps back to give him and the lone ThunderClan cat a far distance.

“Um,” Cricketsting started, never met a ThunderClan cat before until now. “I’m Cricketsting. Err… I would assume that you’re part of ThunderClan, but I don’t want to be a thunderhead.” He laughed with hints of anxiety that became fainted -but not gone- as he thought back to the pun.

She visibly stiffened as soon as the RiverClan warrior appeared, claws once again sliding out as she prepared to defend herself in case he decided to cross the river. When he instead took a few steps back, she narrowed his eyes at him. He was definitely old enough to have had a say in the decision about Cinderpaw, old enough to recognize that it was wrong, old enough to have spoken out about it. Had he sat back and done nothing? Watched as Skystar violated every moral in existence?

...Worse, was Skystar more of a tyrant than she thought? Did he refuse to listen to the Clan he led?

She finally registered his words and squinted at him, aggression faltering for just a moment. "'Thunderhead'... 'dunderhead'?" Was he making puns right now?

In any case, he didn't seem to mean any harm—at least not at the moment, or not that she could see. Her guard remained raised. "Were you at the Gathering last night?" she asked. Figured she could get right into the thick of it; he had introduced himself but she didn't feel it was necessary for her to do as well.

The tabby purred and watched the other warrior’s reaction at the pun. It helped cool down Cricketsting’s nerves by a whole lot.

Cricketsting then stiffened for a second, pondering on the question that was asked by the ThunderClan warrior. “Um, yeah I was,” he deadpanned. He could feel his limbs stepping back some more on their own, and he knew why. He suddenly remembered about Cinderpaw’s kidnapping that he wasn’t aware of at the time until it was announced. He can guess that the ThunderClan cat must be hating every RiverClan cat, thinking that they are apathetic and are willing to cross boundaries. That’s not true at all! Cricketsting wanted to yowl at the other cat, assure them that he disagrees with Skystar’s decision.

As much as Cricketsting wanted to speak or wisecrack to the ThunderClan tabby, he became speechless and awaited their words.

Cricketsting's reaction wasn't exactly hard to read, and Bumblebreak felt a sick sense of satisfaction roll over her as he stepped back from the riverbank some more. Was he afraid of her? Good, he had every reason to be. She stepped forward to the edge of the river, claws scraping against the sandy soil and teeth flashing as she spoke. "So you know that your Clan's fox-hearted secret is out. You know we aren't going to tolerate it—that I'm not going to tolerate it. I'm curious... what do you think about this? Did you even try to deny this as an option at all? Surely it was obvious to all of you that this was a terrible thing to do." And that was a hell of an understatement.

She was looking for just one reason to jump across the river and give this cat a serious taste of her claws.

Cricketsting’s anger boiled inside him, being used as a punching bag for the ThunderClan cat who seemed like the kind who would complain to any action done by clans, excluding ThunderClan.

“For your information, I was somewhere else when RiverClan decided to kidnap your clanmate,” he spoke truthfully, baring his teeth and padding forward towards the bank. He already dealt with knowing that RiverClan kidnapped an apprentice. He doesn’t want to deal with it today while hunting. Who gave this ThunderClan cat the right to ruin his vacation away from the horrible things that kept happening in RiverClan? Cricketsting was not having it!

“If you’re really going to complain about RiverClan's decisions, do it to Skystar.” Hell, Cricketsting would be grateful if the other warrior did so. It would be so enjoyable to watch Skystar getting an earful. He continued, in a whisper low enough for both of them to hear, “And while you’re at it, how about you stop talking or you wake up every animal in the forest.”

Her fur spiked as Cricketsting finally padded toward her for a change, and her puplis narrowed into slits. "Doesn't matter. When you heard about it, you could've done something about it," she countered venomously. "And believe me, jackass, I've shouted his ears off twice now. Frankly I don't think your snake of a leader holds a heart or brain, because the first time he called me the manipulative one and the second time he just didn't care." Believe her, she'd be more than happy to make it a third, only this time she'd be speaking with teeth and not claws.

She snarled at Cricketsting as he lowered his voice to a whisper. "If you have a problem with it, you can either make me or you can go hunt somewhere else." Her narrowed eyes flashed with blatant challenge, daring him to step over the border and give her a reason to give him a piece of her mind.

Cricketsting looked on with anger for the ThunderClan warrior. He had enough ‘chit-chatting’ with them. This was a waste of time to both individuals. “Forget about me thinking I'm a thunderhead, cause it seems like you’re the thunderhead here,” he remarked. As he lashed out his anger with a hiss, there was a bubble that kept bobbing around in his chest that wouldn't pop. Is he really feeling guilty for not stopping this sooner? No, no, it is not his fault!... He did went missing because he tried to pull a prank that went nowhere….If he wasn’t gone from camp for a couple of sunrises, he could’ve voiced his opinion that kidnapping was a bad idea… so maybe it is his fault?

Fine! The warrior thought to himself as he shook his head, I’ll go hunt somewhere else! The confused, but surely angered warrior swished his tail as he turned away, not bothering to look back at the ThunderClan warrior. Thinking back to the last statements of the conversation, Cricketsting remembered how the ThunderClan cat said that Skystar called them manipulative and when the second time they talked, the ‘star stopped caring. If Cricketsting was none the wiser, he would’ve guessed that there is a certain relationship between Skystar and the other warrior. As much as that seemed fascinating at first, Cricketsting doesn’t care and rather not think about it at all. He longed for hunting, and that’s what he is aiming for, not solving a damn mystery about damn cats that kept annoying Cricketsting with their own problems that the cream tabby neither heard of it or been in it!

(Sorry for the wait, I really enjoy roleplaying this! :heartbounce:)

After the apprentice's den fiasco, Echosong decided to take it a bit easier on Crowpaw. A bit. "How about this. If you are willing to listen to me without throwing a fit, I will change our plans to make things less... intense." With a quick glance up at the midday sun, the molly began to think as the led Crowpaw towards the Smallpines. The first destination of their trip.

"We are still going on a tour of all the borders. It's important that you know all the nooks and crannies, as many battles tend to happen here. When you get put on border or hunting patrols, you will go to one of the borders. Knowing every little bit of our home could be the difference between life and death for you and your clanmates." She stopped talking for a moment to allow the apprentice to explore the Riverclan border, sitting in the shade with her tail wrapped neatly around her paws. Once they were done, she could continue.

"Before we leave here, I'm going to teach you the basic hunters crouch. Each new border will be a new necessary technique for you to learn. Ok?" Once Crowpaw answered, she crouched into the basic stance. "When hunting on the ground, it's important to keep your pawsteps light. Prey have very good hearing, and one wrong step could alert them. Keep your tail close to the ground, don't stick it up in the air or drag it along the earth. Both will alert your prey." Before she continued, she stopped to make sure they didn't have any questions.

"I guess I can do that..." The apprentice huffed at their mentor's deal. They still didn't feel like it was all too fair for them to be bossed around by another cat. Shouldn't Crowpaw have the liberty to do as they please? This whole "training" business felt like a huge brainwash scam in their opinion. But Crowpaw had no power here. They had to do as their sibling said would be best -- stay in ThunderClan.

They let out a gruff sigh as they follow Echosong through the territory. She sure likes rambling, they thought. Crowpaw let their eyes wander the area; watching every bird, insect, tree, or interesting blade of grass they came across on their path. This border they were on was pretty, at least.

By the time Echosong has crouched down in front of them, Crowpaw had completely misheard Echosong. They were so into the scenery that they forgot to pay attention. They stared and furrowed their brows at her. What was she doing? Shoot. Maybe I should've been paying attention. They tried to backtrack what she said, but nothing came to mind. All they could remember was the border patrol nonsense she spouted, but as she began explain hunting on the ground, it clicked in their brain. "Oh! Uh, right, okay." A sheepish smile curled their lips. Maybe she didn't notice they weren't listening...

Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Crowpaw was young. Not only that, but they were brand new to clan life. Things like patrols or rules were most likely brand new concepts to them. She remembered being the exact same way. Coming from a warm twoleg den to a muddy, dark clan camp took a long time to adjust to. She could remember constantly rolling her eyes at over-eager apprentices who were begging to go training, or stern warriors who wanted to go hunting during their free time. Were they crazy? Of course not. They were clan-cats. She just didn't understand at the time. Getting mad at Crowpaw for being in the same boat she had been in all those moons ago would only turn them away from wanting to learn.

Wordlessly, the she-cat moved from her hunters crouch to stand in front of her apprentice. After a quick scan of their clearly not crouched stance, she took matters into her own paws. A silver paw shot out with lightning speed, wrapping around one white paw and moving it to the correct position. A quick jab at the bend of their arm would ensure they crouched down. She silently made her way around Crowpaw's body, moving their limbs around in the dirt until they rested in a perfectly placed position.

"You're in the hunters crouch. Memorize how it feels. Keep your tail low, but not too low. Keep your paws light. Repeat that back so I know you're listening this time." Her eyes shot along the border, quickly scanning for any Riverclan patrols or potential threats. When she was satisfied the border was safe, she turned back. "Then I want you to sneak across the border in this pose, get used to it. Ok?"

Crowpaw's smile dissolved as Echosong towered over them. Then, without any warning, she started poking at them?? "Gah! Hey, what are y--" Before they could even retort, Crowpaw was shocked to find themself in their very own hunter's crouch. They blinked in surprise, looking down at the positioning of their paws and making note of how low their tail was. The irritation was still there, bristling in the back of their mind, but Crowpaw was more fascinated than anything. Is this really how cats hunted?

Looking back up at Echosong, Crowpaw nodded. They stood and then repeated the crouch as best as they could. They felt so...cool! They'd never learned anything before this, so getting to do something new like this was thrilling to Crowpaw.

When challenged to cross the border, Crowpaw looked over at the border and then back at Echosong. They sat there blinking for a second, and then finally started creeping their way over the scent marks. Moving like this was so...strange, but they felt as if they looked so mature and professional. So sneaky! They wiggled their haunches playfully, unable to ignore the thrill they felt. They just couldn't help but smile at this point. "Look at me! Crow is sneaky!" They exclaimed in a sort of loud whisper. Crowpaw's tail was higher than it should be now, lashing excitedly.

Have my shoulders been this tense the whole time? The thought floated into her head as she felt said tension slowly evaporate, the heavy weight that seemed to settle there all but gone. She had seen it. That little spark in their eyes. A gleam that indicated to her that she had broken through that wall of stubbornness. She hadn't knocked it down of course, she would be naive to think so, but a crack was a success none the less. Once the initial confusion melted away, her apprentice seemed pleased with this new information. They even perfectly replicated it!

Echosong watched contently from where Crowpaw had left her, happy to let them get used to the new position. Even better, they seemed to be able to pick up the scent marks with ease, something she had trouble with way back when. I accidentally crossed onto other clan territory more than a few times... While Crowpaw was getting... admittedly a little close at times, she was happy to let them have this moment. Until blue eyes spotted a critical mistake.

Bounding towards the apprentice in a similar pose, careful to avoid twigs or leaves in her path, Echosong quickly caught up to the super sneaky kitty. She kept pace with their speed, even going so far as to shout whisper over:"You'd be even sneakier if you kept your tail level like this. Remember raising it too high or brushing it too low will tell others where you are. Pay attention to your surroundings too. Do you hear any prey nearby?"

After being corrected, Crowpaw was quick to lower their tail back to it's correct positioning. This crouch would take some getting used to, but they were more than willing to learn; especially after Echosong gave them the task to detect any prey. Was he....hunting?? Would learning this stuff meant they'd be able to hunt for their own meals?? This was so exciting! They never fathomed that they could learn this sort of stuff. They were used to living off a scavenger lifestyle -- finding anything they could to survive...so to say Crowpaw was stoked to be learning this sort of thing was a huge understatement.

I can't wait to tell Raven about all the stuff I'm learning!!

Crowpaw was fully engaged now. They squeeze their eyes shut to focus on their hearing; angling their ears in all directions, trying to catch the slightest of sounds. "Um...I hear...birds?" They quietly reported, unsure if that counted for the answer she was looking for. Birds could always be heard -- they were the loudest kind of prey...was that a lazy answer? Crowpaw's chest began to heat up as they peaked through one of their tightly-shut eyelids to look for their mentor's approval.

It was endearing to watch Crowpaw excitedly adjust to their new skills, quickly taking her advice to better their stance. It was a stark contrast to merely an hour ago, when both Echosong and Cinderstar had to berate the apprentice's lazy attitude. Heck, she'd had to carry Crowpaw out of their den, and now here they were practically vibrating with enthusiasm. The guilt that still fizzled within her for causing those hidden tears early was all but gone. Tough love was all that was needed. The hard part was over; now for the fun part.

"Birds." She repeated quietly, almost as if pondering their answer. Of course they were right, the whole forest danced with their songs. Cardinals, robins, sparrows; all sorts of feathered creatures fluttered around the two cats. "Are you telling me or asking me?" Despite her stern tone, her blue eyes were light. Crowpaw was doing excellent, there was no need to continue her harshness. "Can you scent anything? Preferably the earthy scent of a mouse? That would be a great first catch for you. Bird's require a bit more practice."

She stayed quiet for a moment and allowed her apprentice to scout, content to stay crouched beside them and scout out her own prey. A few rodents scuttered nearby, evidenced by their small squeaks and even smaller footprints left behind in the dirt. Alright kid, let's see what you pick up.

Their nose wrinkled and brows furrowed again. Why didn't Echosong originally tell them to scent a mouse, then? I could catch a bird. They thought, flattening their ears. Nothing's too hard for Crow! Frustrated, they suddenly decided that they wanted to impress their bossy trainer with their hunting skills. If they could master the hunter's crouch this easily, then surely catching a mouse would be like stealing a mossball from a kitten, right?

"Fine, Crow will find a mouse." Crowpaw declared with a huff, lashing their tail to show determination. "Then, Crow will catch the biggest mouse!"

Squeezing their eyes shut again, they dropped their maw and began tasting the air, trying to ignore the birds chirping overhead. To their surprise, it didn't take long at all to catch the overwhelming scent of several rodents nearby. They purred, letting out another excited whisper, "I smell mice! Lots of them are around us!"

Brown paws raced towards their destination with a fervor that even she was surprised by. There was much to do today, and marking the border was only the start of that list of tasks. Glancing behind her to see how her patrolmates were faring with her exacerbated pace, she slowed ever so slightly as they approached the border.

"Welcome to Smallpines Cactuspaw," she stated with a grin. "Since we haven't formally toured this part of our territory I'll excuse any missteps as we mark the border. Riverclan's scent is particularly strong in this area, so make sure you stick your nose in to familiarize yourself with it."

Wrinkling her nose in an exaggerated grimace towards the fishy smell, she began to brush up against the low foliage surrounding the area.

"Rainhound, you're free to move on your own, just holler if anything's amis. Cactuspaw I'd like you to stay close by. With the amount of rogue activity and how close we are to Riverclan, I'd like you within eyesight of myself."

Echosong shot a pleased smile Crowpaw's way. "Good job!" She whispered back. It seemed she had a natural hunter on her paws. Not only did they pick up one mouse, but many. Even with the chirping above, a distraction many inexperienced hunters might have a problem ignoring, Crowpaw was able to pick up the new scents. Perhaps harder prey such as birds will be less of a challenge for them than I thought? The molly stored the idea away for later. There were mice to catch after all.

"Using your amazing tracking skills, sniff out the closest mouse and try to catch it. They're little things, so one bite to the neck should be enough to finish them off. Stay low and downwind, ok?" There was so much more she wanted to remind the apprentice of: Stay alert of your surroundings, keep your tail low, stay focused on your target, keep quiet.... The list could go on. Yet, it would most likely all just be white noise to them now. Easier to save her breath. Instead, she gestured with a small head nod for Crowpaw to begin their hunt. She would stay crouched here.

Rainhound padded after Sparrowskip. Soon the familiar border came into view. She nodded to Sparrowflight. "Yeah," she mewed, walking along the border and taking a little bit of time to mark everything. She guessed splitting the border in thirds between her, Sparrowflight and Cactuspaw would be the fairest, but she decided to do a little more than a third, just so that they could finish this patrol a little quicker. It was odd if Sparrowflight ended up being late for her own patrol when she literally sent it out, plus she still needed to listen to all of the reports. So Rainhound decided to hurry up.

After she was finished marking her share of the border, she stepped back, calling, "I'm done! Ready to get back whenever you guys are!"

Nodding at their mentor’s teachings, Crowpaw adjusted themself to the wind and narrowed their ears on the small mouse ahead. They stiffened a bit when realizing that they were ACTUALLY hunting right now. Holy sea-shells. They inched forward, officially breaking away from Echosong’s side. The mouse seemed oblivious so far, though Crowpaw froze nearly every time its whiskers twitched. It took all of their effort to keep their tail from twitching excitedly and focus on the prey ahead…so much so that they began to hold their breath.

Then, when they felt the timing was right...they leaped for it.

Squeak!

Crowpaw’s eyes were shut tight. “Did I catch it?!” They felt the wiggling beneath their claws and gasped. Slowly peeling their eyelids apart, they finally looked down to witness the white creature squirming beneath them. “ECHOSONG, LOOK, LOOK! I HUNTED! CROW CAUGHT A MOUSE!”

Ready to get back whenever you guys are!" ~ Sparrowflight ~

Turning her head to give a nod of thanks to Rainhound and... Where was her apprentice???? Frozen in place, the tan molly quickly scanned her surroundings for any trace of the young cat... but it seemed they never followed her out here.

As Rainhound quickly went across her stretch of border, Sparrowflight's ears and tail drooped in disappointment before she ran over to complete the section that her and Cactuspaw were going to do together. Had she offended them in some way? Had they gotten lost on the way here? With those questions tumbling through her mind, she thoroughly rubbed her pelt across the foliage around her before padding over to join Rainhound as they finished.

"You run on ahead, feel free to grab some prey from the pile once you're back. I'm... Going to double-check that Cactuspaw hasn't gotten lost between here and camp," she stated before springing off into the underbrush.

[ WHOOPS I forgot to make a finishing post. No need to reply with Rainhound haha ]

The animals, big and small, scattered away from the border as Cricketsting kept dragging a fish through the dirt. He kept smirking, loosening his teeth-grip on the fish. Last time he was here, he met a ThunderClan warrior who kept complaining about RiverClan’s kidnapping. Enough was enough, if the ThunderClan warrior is itching for a fight, then fine! They’ll get into a fight, a war, a prank war!

Stifling giggles, Cricketsting slid under a bush that was near the border of ThunderClan and waited for that annoying ThunderClan cat to arrive.

She had half a mind to shoot out of the bushes and cheer along with her apprentice. Their excitement was infectious. It spread throughout her crouched body like lightning and gave her a feeling of childlike excitement herself. Their first catch! She purred fondly, creeping towards Crowpaw to observe their kill. Sure there were things she planned on correcting. Yet she wanted to enjoy this moment with her apprentice. They would remember this for moons to come.

Blue eyes peered over Crowpaw's shoulder to look at the-- um."Crowpaw, did you forget something?" She stared pointedly at the still squirming creature, not exactly the still and lifeless form she was expecting to see. She mimicked a bite to jog their memory. The clack of her teeth was punctuated with a nose point to the creature, another silent reminder. Not that she needed to be quiet anyways, their excited whoops scared most of the prey away anyways. Add that to the list. Despite her exasperation, a fluffy tail ran along their back in congratulations.

Crowpaw blinked as their mentor signaled toward the squirming mouse. Oh. Right.

With a swift bite to the neck, the mouse's movement was no more. “There!” Their meow rolled into a purr when they felt Echosong’s tail brush against their back. “I did it! I’m gonna be the best hunter in all of the ThunderClan! Right, Echosong?” They turned to their mentor with big, hopeful, blue eyes.

They licked their lips to clean off the bit of the blood, then their tummy growled loudly. Suddenly Crowpaw realized that they hadn’t eaten today! Echosong dragged them out of camp before they could even have some breakfast! Was this what the hunting lesson was for? Makes sense, now! “It’s a good thing, too, because I’m starving!” They exclaimed, leaning down with their jaw wide, hoping to chow down on that juicy mouse they just caught!

There we go, hopefully this will be just a one time mistake. She nodded with a small exasperated sigh as she watched her apprentice officially catch and kill their first prey. It wasn't a perfect catch by any means. Their stalking technique could use a little critiquing, and they had to remember to actually kill their food. They hadn't even started with flying prey... Oh dear was she celebrating too early? No, don't get too worked up. You were pleasantly surprised by their tracking skills. Just because they lack in one area does not mean they lack in all. They show true promise.

"I truly think you will. I'm very proud of you for sticking with me throughout this. And now look at you! You have something to bring back to the elders." Aah the first prey delivered to the elders was a special moment. She could remember bringing a very tiny, but delicious squirrel to the tired elder. Her former mentor had watched with pride as she strode over to their den and honorably delivered the large tailed animal, then stayed to clean off their ticks. It was gross, but it was the first time I felt like a member of Thunderclan. What was their name?? Fire something? No... Was it---

"Excuse you!" Had they lost their mind? There was no possible way she just saw Crowpaw attempt to eat the prey now. A silver paw shot out to cover the fleshy body from the sharp fangs of her hungry apprentice, no doubt one of the dumbest ideas she's had for a long time. She might as well go stand in the middle of the thunderpath and expect monsters to ignore her completely with that mindset. Not gonna happen. Just like Crowpaw's fangs in my paw is inevitable... "When you catch food it isn't for you. It's for Thunderclan. You either bring it home immediately and give it to your elders, or bury it and continue hunting. Then you can dig it up and bring all of your kills back at once. You can eat when we return home." Which judging by the setting sun should be soon...

"We'll end todays lesson on a high note. I want you to deliver this to Clearwhisper and Goldenwolf. Then you can go to the freshkill pile and pick whatever you like."

When Echosong’s silver paw blocked them from sinking their pearly whites into the juicy mouse-flesh, Crowpaw stopped themself from biting, but their jaws were lightly clamped onto her paw. No pressure to break any skin, but enough for their fangs to disappear halfway into her fur. Confused, the dark apprentice withdrew their maw and groaned. “Huh?” Disbelief painted their features when she explained that there was a rule about when you can and can’t eat prey…okay, fine, maybe they did hear of this silly rule before, but they thought it was more of a suggestion than a law or whatever. Crowpaw was a growing apprentice who will someday be ThunderClan’s BEST hunter! They needed their nutrition!! They can’t just go around giving all their food to the elders…when will they ever eat???

But as Echosong explained that they could eat after bringing their mouse to Clearwhisper and Goldenwolf, Crowpaw’s pouty expression was washed away with a toothy grin. “Ohh! Okay, I can do that!” So all they had to do was drop off the mouse to their Clanmates and then they could go eat? Okay, that's fair!

Not wanting to waste any time, Crowpaw picked up the mouse in their jaws and started trotting back toward camp. “Leths goooo!” They chirped, holding their tail high in the air.

Littlepaw only nodded with understanding as Gingerfrost explained his actions to her. What he said made sense so she didn't decide to question it. Although, one thing didn't make sense.

"Why do we rub on trees if we're at risk for splinters? I... I-I mean... I know why we rub on rocks, but I just don't understand why we do trees. Doesn't that have a chance of wasting herbs too?" she nervously asked, trying her best to not sound so timid.

Now that the pair had moved on, Littlepaw padded closely behind Gingerfrost so she didn't risk the chance of getting lost. She wouldn't want to explain anything like that to any of her Clanmates, especially her mother and father, and even her friend.

"Is... I-is it... Is it..." Oh, come on, Littlepaw! she groaned and began to shake her head, although she managed to remember the scent from the Gathering two moons ago. "It's ShadowClan!"

Hm. not a silly question, but Gingerfrost just shrugged as he walked.
"Sometimes it's the best thing around to mark. Smallpines is an example of that." Which they would be seeing soon "Splinters aren't common either. And doubt they need much herbs, if any. It's mostly just annoying and tedious to get out."
At that he shot Littlepaw a look, one that intended to convey that she shouldn't just let a splinter sit either if ever she got one. it was brief, but he was going assume the molly understood. Or was at least smart enough to figure that out herself.

Once they were at Sedgewater valley and Littlepaw had given her answer, Gingerfrost didn't much move as he spoke.
"Almost. This is the WindClan border, ShadowClan is the one we just saw."
Saltmeadow Marsh, that is.
"Commit the scent to memory, and remember that this is WindClan."
Sedgewater Valley. To give the young apprentice some time, Gingerfrost went ahead and marked to border before nodding towards her as if to ask if she was ready to head off. Once she was, he would.

The tom padded along. the walk wasn't too awfully long, or maybe it was just because he was starting to get used to these things called a territory tour. Almost right away the shield would go ahead and rub past a tree or two in order to mark the border - all the while remaining splinter free, of course. He nodded for Littlepaw to approach and do what she'd done for the past two borders as well.
"This is our border with ThunderClan."
He meowed. There wasn't much else to add, he imagined she was more than aware of the recent on goings with them. Sitting down to give her a few moments to remember this scent as well, Gingerfrost's ear flickered when he heard a bird flap nearby. That's right, she had learned to hunt already. From what he was told, at least.
"..Think you can catch something?"
He asked after a few heartbeats, having lowered his voice as to not chase anything away, deciding he might as well assess her current standing on the matter. Honestly he didn't quite care if she did or did not catch anything, as he mostly just cared about the technique right now. And after this... Only the training island was left. So it was as good a time as any.

Littlepaw only nodded in acknowledgment, not feeling like she needed to ask any further questions. I guess the trees are more common than rocks, so I suppose that makes sense... she shrugged slightly and continued to follow Gingerfrost, taking note of his stare. Splinters sound like they cause a lot of trouble... she swallowed and nodded, acknowledging what the warrior had done.

Realizing she got her answer wrong and said it with so much confidence, Littlepaw looked at her paws as a wave of embarrassment hit her, "S-sorry, Gingerfrost... I should've... I- I should've been paying better attention. I promise to try harder!"

Shrinking back, Littlepaw lifted her chin to take in the scents that surrounded Smallpines. It smelled richer, sweeter, with no hints of pine. Pine was way more sour than sweet. That would be easier to remember, but Littlepaw never thought she would forget any of the scents. Now that she was learning what each Clan smelled like, she'd be ready to know what cat belongs to which Clan. When she had fully committed the scent to memory, she looked down to find Gingerfrost was staring at her, looking like he was ready to continue the border tour. Walking forward, she nodded slightly, showing she was prepared to continue. When her mentor began walking again, Littlepaw quickly padded up to walk beside him.

Continuing to walk alongside the shield, she rubbed her scent on a nearby walk, trying her best to copy her mentor. She stopped abruptly when she finished marking the rock and listened to Gingerfrost as he asked her a question.

"I-I'll... I'll try... I've only ever hunted fish, though I have caught a bird once!" her ears perked with happiness and confidence as she remembered catching her bird. That was one of the proudest moments in her life, something she'd never forget how to do. Dropping into her hunter's crouch, she looked to Gingerfrost for approval then moved forward, keeping as stable as possible.

Hearing the bird flapping its wings, she waited to hear which direction it was coming from and faced parallel to the bird's pending flight path. It didn't take long for her to jump out and startle the bird, which appeared to be a robin. The robin only managed to fly slightly higher, but Littlepaw managed to turn around in the air and clip the bird's wing with her outstretched claw. Landing on the ground with a thud in front of the bird, Littlepaw slowly got up, feeling sore due to the lack of bird-hunting experience.

"I got it!" she happily exclaimed and rushed forward to grab her robin and show it off. "I got it, Gingerfrost!"

The oriental led his patrolmates towards the border of Thunderclan. His long tail flickered back and forth, misshaped ears swiveling to the sounds around them. There was no conversation, something that surprised Wormbite, but he didn't find the silence awkward. Perhaps comforting, almost, if only he could relax. His whiskers twitched when they reached it.

Wormbite was the first to break the silence. Surprising. "Come back here when you are finished. Specklepaw, either come with me or go with Vinewatcher, " He commanded, giving a short nod. He allowed a few moments for the apprentice to make their choice. With that, he turned towards a differing direction of the border and begun to mark along with it. Brushing up against the evergreen around them, Wormbite kept on alert. Nothing seemed to be suspicious. Ah. ,,,

he hoped they did not find... any friend-shaped ... things... this time around.

Specklepaw stopped and looked up from the ground they had been looking at. The apprentice looked over at the patrol leader when he gave Specklepaw the choice to go with either warrior. The apprentice looked from Vinewatcher And Wormbite before making their choice which was Wormbite and started to follow the warrior once he started to walk along the border.

Wormbite's ears perked up at the sound of pawsteps approaching him. Ah. It seemed the Dark Lord had been picked by the apprentice. He gave a small nod of acknowledgement, but besides simply keeping aware of Specklepaw, continued on as normal. It didn't take long for the oriental to come to a close, especially with the help of Specklepaw, he didn't wish to dwell near Thunderclan any longer than needed.

Wormbite led Specklepaw back towards the middle when they had finished, furrowing his eyebrows together when Vinewatcher was nowhere to be seen. Given the assistance, he assumed he had finished earlier but as time passed, it seemed to not be the case. He frowned softly, hm. Somehow in this patrol he's done the most talking. Perhaps this is the day he gains social skills. "Alright. Let us check over this side and see if we can find her, " Wormbite mewed to Specklepaw, beginning to pad towards the opposite direction of where Vinewatcher should have gone.

His tail flickered back and forth, making sure to mark along this side as well. He didn't want for Thunderclan to get any ideas.

The large scarred tabby padded back towards her patrolmates having marked her side of the border. The she-cat had been slower than Wormbite and Specklepaw most likely due to the fact she was due to have her kits soon. Waddling about she nodded signalling to her patrol mates she had finished marking the border thoroughly.

After he was done he looked over at Wormbite and followed him back to the middle and sat down for a moment waiting for Vinewatcher flicking the tip of their tail while the two waited. Specklepaw looked back at Wormbite and nodded at him and stood up following along like he always does.

Wormbite gave a nod of acknowledgement, luckily, he wouldn't have to report any disappeared clanmates to Slatewhisker. Flicking his tail, he led Specklepaw and Vinewatcher back to camp without another moment to waste.

She largely ignored Vineglow, trusting the warrior to be able to handle themselves just fine. But when Leechpaw passed her, she tensed and quickened her pace. "I said to stay close," she hissed, teeth gritted against the pain sparking up her leg. Stars, she needed to get that looked at before it got any worse.

The poke wasn't at all bothersome and Bumblebreak glanced down at Leechpaw as she caught up before shooting a look at the splashing river. She wasn't entirely fluent in Leechpaw but could patch together what he meant for the most part. "Probably just a fish. But stick by me anyway, like I said."

“Shall we head back?” Vineglow asked. Turning head in curiosity.

Cloudspots limped through the woods, watching as the towering trees slowly turned into pines. This was his sign that he was nearing his destination.

It had taken him twice as long to get out here, considering his injury. His paw still ached, but it wasn’t as bad as it had been the previous day. He was just glad he didn’t get killed. He just hoped Violetpaw was okay.

He was much further up the ThunderClan-RiverClan border than where he normally met Cloudwillow. He had every intention of meeting her later that evening, but he felt like scouting this area out first. It had been a while since he’d been to Smallpines; he loved the smell of pine.

He paused as he got to the border. The scent markers weren’t very strong, suggesting that a patrol hadn’t been up here yet today. That confused Cloudspots a bit; he figured ThunderClan would ensure this border in particular would be kept heavily marked.

Cloudspots looked to his side as he heard pawsteps. Initially, he worried it may be a RiverClan patrol. He hoped they wouldn’t skin his pelt for being alone and so close to the border. Even though he had a lot of care and respect for RiverClan, he also acknowledged the ferocity of their feelings towards ThunderClan.

He relaxed when he saw it was only a single warrior. He sat down and curled his tail around his paws, looking inquisitively at this other cat. They almost looked… a little familiar.

"Hey! You there! What are you doing so close to the border?!", she yelled, stepping closer to the border while minding her distance from it.

Cloudspots felt unease prick his pelt at the other cat’s hostile tone. He squashed it down, telling himself that he wasn’t breaking any rules. He just hoped this other cat couldn’t tell he was injured. “I’m not breaking the warrior code,” he said. He tried to make his voice sound intimidating, but it didn’t really work. Cloudspots wasn’t exactly a cat who could make himself sound at all aggressive or intimidating.

Cloudspots felt mildly annoyed that this RiverClan cat was being so defensive. He could just as easily accuse this cat of being up to no good, but he wasn’t that kind of cat. He felt paranoia was generally a waste of time, at least when it came to things like borders.

Cloudspots’s brow raised as this RiverClan cat rambled on. This cat was quite peculiar. He wasn’t surprised at the aggression and hostility. It seemed RiverClan cats were trained and encouraged to hate their rivals across the border, just as ThunderClan cats were. He silently cursed this ridiculous rivalry. Why couldn’t they just make peace over the stupid Firefly Cove and be done with it?

Watching both patrol members approach, Gingerfrost gave each of them a slight nod in greeting and acknowledgement, accompanied by his usual 'hm'. With everyone accounted for, the shield didn't hesitate to shoot both of them a glance to ensure they were both coming along as he led the way to the ThunderClan border. Ehh, he hadn't been here much, if at all, since that kit's death. But as he got close to the border, sniffing the surrounding area, he couldn't yet scent anything that might indicate trespassing or trouble - which was good. At least not within the area he just checked. But with that seemingly well and safe, the shield went ahead to mark the border, turning an ear towards his patrol mates as the though occured that he should probably do that in case they had anything to say as well.
"The area here seems good."

The black tabby padded after the Shield, keeping good pace as they made their way to Smallpines. The scents of the forest began to tickle her nose, causing a small sneeze. Moonfrost sniffled to clear her nose, just in time to scent the border markers.
As Gingerfrost spoke, she gave a nod of agreement, letting her gaze travel over the scenery around them. There didn't seem to be much activity. Making her way to one of the trees that sat on the border, Moonfrost rubbed her pelt against it, leaving a scent marker.

Cloudspots had to admit, it was taking him some time to adjust to this cat’s style of communication! He didn’t remember it being quite this hard when they were apprentices. Maybe age had made him slower?

He recoiled internally at the question about his love life. He wanted to tell Rainwhisper about Cloudwillow, but he couldn’t. He had no idea if the other cat would react positively, especially given how Rainwhisper seemed to be fiercely loyal to RiverClan. “I don’t have a mate. You?”

Good. Both had tagged along, much to the smoothness of their patrol. Returning Moonfrost's nod, noticing Whitepaw's nod as which made this sign of acknowledgement for both, Gingerfrost finished marking the border. He padded a bit further downwards to scent the air there too, not finding much of anything that could point towards the increase of outsiders within RiverClan. Well, at least the border was good. Marking it again, the shield returned to his patrol mates where he waited for them to finish up. With a nod to both warrior and apprentice, Gingerfrost was about to reply to Whitepaw normally, but ultimately couldn't be bothered. Somehow they had stayed silent most of the patrol, and quite honestly the shield didn't mind - it was calm, uneventful and without trouble. Exactly how he preferred his patrols. But now with everyone here, and the border marked and checked, it was about time to head back.
"Let's go,"
He meowed before turning around and heading back towards camp. During the return, he'd keep glancing towards the other members of the patrol, namely Whitepaw, just to be sure everyone was still there. He didn't know what it was lately with checking no one got lost, but it seemed to have become a habit of some sort. How annoying.

Ashpaw followed cautiously the two warriors ahead of him, but everything seemed quiet at the Riverclan border. The route hadn't been as hard as he had first expected, and he felt secretly pleased that he had started to learn it already. I bet I'd be able to follow back the path on my own! Excitement filled his body, but he kept on walking without mentioning his success.

As they reached the border, the gray tabby apprentice could easily tell that the air was very different here. Not only the scent, which seemed way stinkier and weird, but he could feel the freshness of the river and the smells of the various plants that bordered the shore. Nothing like the musty odors of the undergrowth in Thunderclan.
Ashpaw observed carefully Feathernose marking a point, a rock that seemed to have been chosen casually. He craned his neck and asked out loud: "Where should we put our markers?" He had no idea if there were better places than others to do the job, but the two warriors were surely experienced and Ashpaw was impatient to learn.

Ashpaw followed Smallvine's gaze toward Feathernose and nodded at the tabby she-cat's instructions. He still had many questions whirling in his mind, but decided that they could wait until he had tried himself the practice. He knew marking the borders was very important for every clan, and participating in it was a honor for every clan cat. The gray apprentice followed the two warriors for a few moments, scanning the vegetation determinedly for a suitable base.

There! Excitedly, he pointed with his tail toward the huge, plump roots of an ancient oak tree and signaled to his clanmates. "I'm going to mark that one!"
Careful not to trip in the intricate tangle, he stopped midway and remembered something. Am I still on Thunderclan territory? His pelt prickled in uneasiness as the doubt made its way into him, but then he relaxed immediately as he realized that neither Smallvine nor Feathernose had warned him.
Ashpaw opened his mouth to drink in the scents that surrounded him, concentrating hard to discern his clan's odor from Riverclan. Yes, I'm in. He glanced sideways at Feathernose, hoping that the leading cat hadn't noticed him hesitating, and then turned again to his target.

After marking the base of the tree Ashpaw climbed down the mass of roots and trotted behind the warrior, keeping his tail high proudly and his chest slightly puffed out. I'm sure Copperfire will be pleased!
But, where was Riverclan? The tom had to admit to himself that he would've enjoyed meeting the patrol from another clan and chat a little bit, even if maybe just to show himself off.

Ashpaw nodded at the leading warrior, still glancing around for any detail he might've missed. Gazing into distance, he could make out faintly a glade surrounded by reeds and willows that might be Riverclan camp. As the wind shifted direction, the air brought to his nostrils the scent of fish and fresh water. I'll make sure to remember it. And the border line, most importantly.

The gray tabby flicked in tail to signal that he was ready to continue patrolling, hiding from his expression the bit of regret he was feeling for not having met the other clan's patrol. It would've been nice to talk with other training apprentices, as Flamepaw had done, but this was a duty and there was no time to play or be wasted. "Everything seems quiet here." And the Riverclan scents looked a bit stale. When was the last time they passed here?

"Let's finish the border. I'm starving!" He added playfully. The border patrol had revealed itself more boring that he'd expected, not anything like Flamepaw had described to him. He shrugged his shoulders, deciding that the hunting patrols were way funnier and he would ask to participate in them more often. However, he had to admit to himself that marking Thunderclan territory with his own scent was something that made him honor, and he should be proud to be here as a full grown apprentice even if there was still much for him to learn.

Now that things had... Settled (to put it very mildly) back at camp, Hazelspring allowed his paws to lead him away, eventually finding himself at Smallpines. Tensions and emotions were getting wild back at the RiverClan camp and the young warrior found himself overwhelmed by the intensity of it all. He already wasn't too educated or understanding of emotions and, tied with many emotional cats back at camp, made it rather annoying and headache inducing to deal with. Thus, he had left camp to get some fresh air and clear his head.

Was it cold-hearted of him to leave camp because of too many sobbing and grossly emotional cats? Perhaps, but Hazelspring had long since accepted that oddity of himself. Then again, while he could be seen as dismissive and uncaring of emotions, he wasn't a fan of seeing them, so he sometimes helped others by listening to them or maybe rarely taking to them, if only to stop those weird emotions from happening. But RiverClan was too overcrowded with such cats, and Hazelspring had barely escaped with his sanity in tact...

Ugh. Luckily, Smallpines was quiet... And empty of emotional cats. At least, that's what Hazelspring hoped.

Well, that was random. One moment this stranger is saying he recognized him at Gatherings, then mentions that the Clan is being noisy, and now he randomly mentions becoming a father soon. This rapid changing in topics was making Hazelspring's head spin, but the impassive tom managed to shake his head despite the confusion.

"No. I'm not exactly looking for one either." That was true. Hazelspring was just over 12 moons: he had more than enough time to look for someone, should he so choose. But currently, the small warrior understood nothing of emotions and wasn't keen on being involved in anything emotional. "I'm still young. Still got time."

The trek over to Smallpines was all too familiar to the young warrior, so she wasn't fatigued by it one bit. Even though her patrol mates have gone on plenty of border patrols before and had the stamina for it, she checked on them every so often to make sure they didn't get separated or stuck somewhere. It was a nice day out, thankfully. The scent of ThunderClan hit her nose, which was expected, but what she didn't expect was Hazelspring's scent along with a single ThunderClanner. They were both close to the border, but she couldn't sense anything else wrong. Still...

"I can smell a ThunderClanner who got close to the border a few days ago. It's faint, but it's there. Keep your eyes and ears open for any more clues, look for any sign of trespassing," she spoke to Amberpaw and Marigoldleap. "Just mark the border and say something if you find anything more."

She then went off to mark the border with her scent, still keeping an eye on ThunderClan's side of the forest for any patrols. Although it was small and there weren't any signs of trespassing yet, she still found it worth reporting just in case any other patrols came by this scent.

Amberpaw nodded, walking to the opposite side from Reedwhisker and beginning to mark a tree. Her mind wandered. What would a singular Thunderclan cat be doing near the border? She could smell something else too, but it was faint, and quickly was covered. She must have imagined it.

After marking a few bushes and a tree, Reedwhisker looked across at the rival Clan's territory. No one has shown up, so there would be no questioning or conversations of sorts. Well, that was good. I guess that will be good then. No one's said anything about scenting or seeing other things. I think we can head back now and report to Gingerfrost...

"Alright, good work you two. Let's head back to camp. I'll tell Gingerfrost what we smelled on the border, don't worry about it unless Pikestar says something about it in a meeting," she spoke, raising her tail to gather her patrol mates. Once her patrol mates were with her, the dark brown warrior moved her hazel eyes to the forest and began padding to the camp.

"Hello? I would like to point out you seemed to cross the border, If you could please go back to your own clans territory that would be lovely!"

Rosestream said with a kind voice once again giving the she-cat a benefit of the doubt. If the thunderclanner refused of course.. Rosestream was ready t o attack. ~

Amberpaw wasn't more then five feet away, sniffing the air constantly. Nothing specific she smelled yet, and she had a keen nose, but that didn't mean too much if they weren't close enough to any unwelcome scents.

-Kestrelpaw-

She shivered as the winds began to nip at her pelt. Leafbare was coming, and frankly, Kestrelpaw didn't want to be out here if it were up to her. But, finding Fawnpaw was important for the clan, and who was she to object, when she herself had signed up for this?

She turned to her brother. "Do you really think she's out in Riverclan territory somewhere?"

Fennelcall padded towards the back of the group, Slatestripe in the lead of course and Kestrelpaw just about next to him, the cold leaf-fall breeze ruffled his short fur and he shivered slightly. Fennelcall was lost in his own thoughts for a while until Kestrelpaws meow cut in, he paused for a moment, "I don't think she is, she has been an apprentice for awhile and she knows her way around the territory well, but she might be injured or unable to return, so it wouldn't hurt to look." he didn't add that she could be dead, but he figured that Kes might guess that herself.

As the party reached Smallpines Fennelcall spoke up, "How about we split into two groups, that way we can cover more ground." he didn't want Slatestripe to think he was trying to take over the patrol but the tom hadn't really done much, so he figured a suggestion wouldn't hurt.

Today was going swimmingly.

Stonehollow had conquered the great sky, drove off the rabid pebble, and ascended to leadership all without batting an eye.

And now he was patrolling the border, like the amazing leader he was. RiverClan truly was blessed to have him.

More seriously, he was patrolling. Things had been fairly quiet in recent moons and he wanted to make sure things were still clear.. Oh!

Leave it to RiverClan’s best to find a trespasser. Like a squirrel gliding through trees, he spied the ThunderClan fleabag crossing over the river. Muscles tensed, he sprang into action, leaping forward with outstretched paws - a yowl in his throat. "Stop right there!"

The intruder didn't heed his words, and his paws collided with them. They tussled along the bank, his claws a frenzy as he raked it across them. It was a close call, anf for a moment Stonehollow thought this was it-- but he managed to overpower and pin them. "You should have stayed on your side of the border!"

His voice was a hiss as he slashed down across the veins of the leaf, severing it in half. "Serves you right," he spat down at the sad looking plant. "This is RiverClan territory-- you treefrogs already stole enough from us!"

Pleased with himself, he shook the dirt from his pelt and sat down to groom the leaf blood from his claws.

Flameheart decided to go on a hunt before the snow hit, whenever that would be. It seemed like leaf-fall would drag on for moons. Although it was rather lonely beings it was a solo hunt, the young ThunderClan warrior didn't mind it all that much. After finally getting to know some of her family, things have been quite... hectic. A good hunt was just what the orange and white classic tabby Maine Coon had needed, and she was about to get it- that was, until some... tussling could be heard along with hisses. A fight?

Deciding to investigate further, just in case she was assuming something, Flameheart's paws pit-pattered on the forest floor until she came across a single tom at the border. He smelled of... fish. And he battled a- a leaf?! Rather confused, she decided to approach the tom and question him. Treefrogs? Really?! That's an insult I've never heard before...

"What in StarClan's name are you talking about, RiverClanner? Who were you talking to?" although the strange RiverClanner spoke of ThunderClan stealing territory from RiverClan and insulted ThunderClan by calling them tree frogs, it didn't warrant enough to cause a fight at the border. The more I know, the better judgement I will have. Her voice was soft, curious. His claws are out... I have to be careful and not start a fight. The last thing ThunderClan needs is less herbs.

"Aha, another challenger come to be defeated! Prepare to meet your end, squirrel-butt!" With a stony expression (hehehe!) Stonehollow scooped up part of the leaf. He scrunched it down into somewhat of a ball, and then chucked it. Oh yeah!!!!

Like a canonball, it burst through the air and smashed into the strange ThunderClan cat. The sheer force of the butchered leaf sent her flying back into the air, and as she struck a tree trunk Stonehollow knew he had single-pawedly defended RiverClan from the ThunderClan invaders. Served them right; this land belonged to RiverClan!

This was not reality, however. In actuality, the leaf merely landed a hair's length away from Stonehollow's paws, and the ThunderClan cat remained untouched. Stonehollow himself hardly moved from his spot; if not for his seemingly erratic behavior, he would have been quite non-threatening. Still, Stonehollow was undeterred by the lack of actual damage to Flameheart. It seemed like it hadn't registered to him the leaf.. really did not go anywhere. "Take that!!"

Flameheart raised her brow inquisitively at the strange RiverClanner. She had never interacted with someone so... so strange. Another... challenger? "Squirrel-butt"? What is going on inside his head? Does he have bees in his brain? The large she-cat couldn't really decide if this RiverClanner was a threat, so for now her only task is to see what is going on and see if she could decipher whatever the tom was doing.

She watched as the scrunched leaf landed just a mere hair's length away from the rival warrior's paws. I really don't know if he's... playing or if he thinks he's attacking.

"Listen, RiverClanner. I'm not here to play games," she growled, not yet unsheathing her claws. "I'm here to find out who you are and what you're doing so darn close to the ThunderClan side of the border that you're two steps away! I don't want to fight, so I'd much rather you answer this question before I have to force the answer out of you myself. You keep getting that shredded leaf closer and closer to ThunderClan's side, so before long you would end up on enemy territory. I suggest scooping it up now before it ends up being beneath my claws."

With the warrior not seeming to pay attention, she had to add a little force to her questions. There was no harm doing it- unless, of course, the stranger decided to attack. Flameheart glared at the warrior, "I'll only ask you this one time- who are you?"

Sootfur took the rear behind Cardinalpaw and Cloudspots, padding gingerly on the icy ground full of dry leaves that cracked at every minimal touch.
He shivered as the cold breeze ruffled his pelt; his breath condensed in tiny, small fog clouds that quickly disappeared into air.

He raised his head to inhale the scents of Thunderclan and Riverclan. Both seemed pretty stale, so their work today was to make sure every mark was well renewed.
He glanced at Cardinalpaw, before asking with a friendly tone: "Have you ever marked a border?"

Wow, this cat was something else. Stonehollow frowned at the she-cat's yammering, more than a little confused. "... I'm on my side of the river, EEEJIT!" Like, if one wanted to get down to the little details, RiverClan owned the river, so really the angry lady was closer to trespassing than he was. He flicked his ears in response to the leaf chatter, but truthfully didn't see a point in engaging with that part. The leaf was a ThunderClan intruder, after all. She could maul her already defeated tree-mate all she wanted: why the hell would he care? He batted the shreds into the river non-chalantly. If she wanted to go after the evidence of murder, she was free to. His paws were squeaky clean of this incident!

Since she wasn't any fun, he was debating where to go from here. She was way too needlessly aggressive for his liking, especially considering it seemed she didn't have much going on upstairs. He flashed her a faint smile. "Wouldn't you like to know?" Because frankly, it wasn't any of her business. Had she been polite about this matter, he would've been more than happy to oblige. But he recognized a threat, and had little interest in continuing this interaction. "Sorry, I'm not here to play this game. Toodaloo!" And then he slunk off, slipping into the reeds.
