Cottonmaw went to his favorite spot to hunt bugs. Then, he saw his absolute prize. A Chinese Mantis. These were not too rare, but then again, mantises weren't seen often in WindClan. Cottonmaw pounced, and after a few minutes was able to catch the mantis.

Chinese mantises are invasive to Maine and other parts of the USA @Rani ))

Fun. Whiteflame came over and nodded. Okay. So he had to look for a good bug. He started to go over to the tunnels. His eyes looked everywhere. They eventually landed on a spider. That was a good choice. He grabbed a flower out of the ground and out it near.

He waited until it crawled onto the flower.

Whiteflame brought it back out.

Vinemoke perked up at the mention of bug fights he enjoyed bugs though he hated bees the pesky things had chased him last summer when he was an apprentice. He saw that rabbitpaw and cardinalpaw were already getting bugs so he quickly went into the tunnel sniffing around something shiny caught his eye. Ah! a beetle hm this would do nicely he padded over to crowtooth showing off his shiny beetle "I think ill call him sparkles"

Applepaw stepped out of the apprentice's den as she heard the call of an event getting started up and this one seemed to be a fun idea! Bugs! She was never really obsessed with the lot, not like some cats, but he didn't mind them either. Some were plenty pretty. He grinned, shaking out their fur and stepping towards the warrior's den to call forward her pal. "Holly! There's an event outside, we could go into the tunnels! Something about bugs, it seems fun." The feline knew of her friend's interest in tunneling so maybe the event could get him excited to join them.

Heatherpaw pricked her ears. Bugs, huh? She was pretty sure there was a beetle in a clump of ferns near the clearing. She padded over to the clearing, and to her relief it was still there. She picked it up, careful not to kill it. It tasted foul, but she carried it back anyways.

The type of beetle is a Japanese beetle, native to Maine. They are not venemous.

A battle event, finally someone was speaking his language! Okay sure he wasn't going to get to fight which was kinda lame- at least old man crow was heading in the right direction with these new event ideas. Now all he needed was an actual battle event where he could show off his strength in a good old fashioned brawl! Forcing bugs to fight was fun too he supposed- plus a super cool prize was up for grabs. A dried snake, now Jaggedpaw had never seen such a thing before. It looked pretty cool! He wanted it for his nest or- or um like an accessory for his fur! He could do that right? He was sure frostie would enjoy this event too, his clone shared his interests. They were one in the same really! Plus this event wouldn't be as fun if he wasn't competing with his twin. He supposed it would also be nice if gnawingpaw and straws, his two older sisters who had been lacking recently, could join them too. It has been quite some time since they all actually interacted longer than just a good morning or passing glance. He was sure seedling's disappearance was weighing on his sisters a whole lot more than it did him and frostie. Straws and gnawingpaw had always been a whole lot closer to seedpaw after all. If only he had actually taught her how to fight, then the twolegs wouldn't have been able to steal her. Nope! Can't catch himself thinking like that- seedpaw was fine and even without the skills of a fighter he knew she would get through it and return to them eventually. She was part of the miracle litter after all and that had to count for something.

That's it! Family event time- he didn't like this whole rift that seemed to have settled, they needed to hang out more and he was using this event as the perfect excuse to unite them. Yes yes, he was so smart. Best brother out there for sure. The speckled apprentice crossed the clearing and ducked into the apprentice den. He wasn't sure if any of his siblings were inside or not but he shouted loud enough that they would hear him wherever they were. ”HEYA STRAWS! GNAWINGPAW ‘N FROSTIE TOO! COME THERES A SUPER COOL EVENT HAPPENING AND IF YOU MISS IT YOU'RE REAL LAME! Please! It will be fun I swear!!”

He waited for a moment, for a reaction, for one of them to approach him. Uh. Waiting. Ugh he hated waiting. Maybe one more second-...nope too boring, they could catch up! Maybe that moment wasn't long, hell he barely had any patience at all before he ducked back out the apprentice den and traveled to the camp's entrance. Some cats were already returning with really cool bugs and if he waited any longer all the strong ones would be taken!

The message had been sent, no point in waiting for a response! Jaggedpaw followed a few cats towards the tunnels, already with a picture in mind of the bug he wanted to find. It needed to be really big! And have lots of sharp teeth, bugs have teeth right?? Yeah it would be so cool and dangerous that all the other pathetic bugs would die of fear before it even did anything!

Much to his disappointment, Jaggedpaw struggled to find anything matching his previous hopes of the best bug. All he found were boring beetles and dumb squashable spiders! Nothing worth his while- until. Until he saw a bee- no a hornet fly by!! It was perfect, those things could cause a lotta damage. They could even hurt cats. He chased for a bit and when he caught it, it stung him! How dare it sting him!? Didn't it know Jaggedpaw was helping it enter the coolest battle of its life! Dumb bug. It continued to fight him the entire time, surely this wouldn't work. If he let the stupid hornet go it was just going to attack him and not its opponent! It took Jaggedpaw a moment to come up with a solution, he grabbed the nearest biggest leaf and covered the dumb bug with it. At least now it could sting him. He would just leave it covered till the fight, then he would remove the leaf and run away leaving the only opponents for the hornet to be the bug it was fighting and that bug's owner. Seemed like a solid plan to him!

Squirrelpaw padded over, but she very much had no idea what she was getting herself into. She also had no idea she had a fear of bugs. The young she-cat's eyes lit up as she saw her mentor. Dreeeeeamheart! She called, waving a paw. I'm hereeee! She yowled, a smile washing over her. Just before she was going to bounce over to her mentor, she stopped cold. A bug! But it was scary! She backed away slowly as the stink bug inched closer to her. Dreamheart! Come quick! She growled, unsheathing her claws instinctively.

He'd been sleeping better but still not the best. Hollyhawk lay silently, his eyes closed. His ears perked at Applepaw voice calling his name. His head shot up, his ears swivelling in their direction. A bug event, eh? not his cup of tea, but the tunnels? Those were calling to him.

He slowly pushed himself to his paws before making his way over to his close friend. A small smile crossed his maw as he neared her. She'd made the past couple of moons go by surprisingly quick, guilt still weighed heavy on his mind, but it'd lessened in recent days.

Hollyhawk give a friendly nudge to her cheek with his nose

"mm? morning Apple" He said with a gentle purr "Bug event? hm- sounds interesting enough" Holls said with a small nod "been a lil bit since i was last in the tunnels anyway" He said, a grin spreading across his maw.

Branchfur upon hearing about the event ran straight to the tunnels and back with a Common Green Darner. The cyclops esque dragonfly would hopefully be good enough to live a while in a fight, if Branchfur won't lose it first that is.
They seem to live in Maine. @Rani

Owlpaw hated the tunnels but she'd gone out to find a bug anyway. Having stuffed her painful and scary red catch in a crumpled layer of four leaves (she'd been bit before and it hurt like HECK) she marched back into camp. " 'ts really scary!! N' dangerous!! Owlpaw jun'r shall reign s'preme!!" Aubs declared, feeling the movements of her terrifying bug through the leaves. Catching it had involved nervously squishing it without killing it between her paws that held her defensive leaf shields and bundling it up into a just barely breathable ball. It was still moving so it must be fine. She noticed another apprentice capture a hornet. GASP! Her murder bug would win!! it HAD to!!
