Mothflame felt Drizzlepaw's jaws latch onto her throat. She let out a strained huff, before the apprentice uttered one single word.

'Who?'

Mothflame flinched visibly. She swung her paw at Drizzlepaw's head and shook her pelt in an attempt to shake him off, then reached to grasp his tail between her teeth.

"Who what." She growled, eyes narrowing. This was a stupid question, coming from an apprentice this young. He was learning quick, yes, but his chattering seemed to hold some... Meaning. Of some sort. Like he wasn't just talking to distract her.

Mothflame raised an eyebrow. Okay. So this kid didn't believe in Spring. Or more like, didn't know who she was. She snorted.

"Spring is yer mum, kiddo. I know because... Well, most of the Clan knows. Or, well, at least a good portion of it. She's dead, too. That's why ya don't know her." She muttered, befor getting a good look at the apprentice. She saw red. If it were any other cat, she'd be happy. But this was a young apprentice. No matter how much she believed in the "gotta start 'em young" mindset, this was not where she wanted to go. Did she do that? Did he do that to himself? He had to have done it to himself, her claws were sheathed-

"NOBODY DIED!" She snarled suddenly at his questions, feeling herself shake, just a little. "No one died. I'm like this because I'm who I am, and I believe in the things that are true. Some cats like you can't handle the brutal truth."
Mapledawn would never say something like that. She'd coach the young ones through grief and help in any way she could. But Mapledawn didn't matter right now.
"You've learnt enough. Training is over." Untrue. She was only looking for a way to get out of the situation.

he was pissed, but oh she looked mad at that one. he struck a nerve right on back, didnt he? his voice softened. "who did you lose? your mama? papa? sibling? friend?" well HE wasnt done yet he WOULD figure out why mothflame was like that.

Mothflame looked about ready to tear Drizzlepaw's head clean off his shoulders. Stuborn, wasn't he? She didn't know how his mentor could handle him.

"Nobody," she growled again, voice lower. "You- you don't get to say that." Her lips flattened as Drizzlepaw went on and on, about staying alive for 'them' and not allowing their memories to be buried. But she'd buried them a long time ago.

But he was right. Dammit he was right, and she hated it. Mapledawn wouldn't want her to be doing what she did to forget her. Mapledawn wouldn't want her to force herself to believe grief was only something her mind made up.

"Quit your blabbering." She had every reason to stand and leave. She had every right to stop having this conversation. But she didn't. Because deep down she knew she wanted to have this conversation. This was just... The wrong place, wrong time, and the wrong cat.
