Windpaw did not seem like an easy apprentice to train, at first glance. overly enthusiastic, hyper, and though with a pleasant personality, wild and uncontrollable. Just like the wind. Orangeslice was eventually proven wrong. Windpaw was, in fact, quite easy to train. Though enthusiastic, she wasn't crazy hyper (Unlike a certain sister of hers...). instead, she was more on the calm side. Which was nice.
"Alright, Windpaw... You asked me for some training... Correct? Are you ready..? Meet me at the camp entrance and we can head out for some training." Orangeslice called into the apprentices' den, and after pausing a bit for a reaction (and geting one), she turned and padded towards the camp entrance.
Training! Yay!! Though it wasn't Rabbitfoot, it was someone! And a warrior, at that! Well, of course, if they weren't a warrior they wouldn't be training her right now, sooo...
Windpaw hopped to her paws and gave herself a big stretch, quickly groomed to flatten her fur, then padded towards the camp entrance with a pleasant look. Best to look friendly!
"Hello, Orangeslice! It's a pleasure to be training with you. What are we training today?" Windpaw asked, catching the warrior off-guard for StarClan knows what reason. Orangeslice gave Windpaw a soft smile and started to head out of camp with a flick of his charred tail. Windpaw followed.
"I'll teach you how to be stealthy, like a ShadowClan cat. I know... We're known for being fast... But being quiet is a good trait to have... Especially in battle. We... Don't want you getting targetted, do we?" Orangeslice explained, as Windpaw followed beside them, eyes bright with curiosity and ears perked to listen to every instruction. Once they were in a less windy place, he stopped.
"Okay... So first... Show me a hunting crouch... We'll go from there." First instruction, and Windpaw immediately listened with a cheerful nod, dropping down low, paws tucked underneath her, and her weight on her haunches. Just like how Crowtooth had told her to! Orangeslice let out a hum of approval.
"I know how to make my pawsteps quiet! Crowtooth told me how. Is that all it takes to be quiet and stealthy?" Windpaw spoke up, tilting her head to the side. The warrior shook his head calmly, walking up beside her to tap her legs for tiny adjustments.
"Not quite... You need to... Learn how to use your surroundings to hide... WindClan... Isn't a place with many trees, so it will be hard. But move with the wind, and you'll be hidden like ShadowClanners in the shadows."
"How do I do that?" 'Move with the wind'? What was that supposed to mean? Move to where the wind blows? Run as fast as the wind? Wait- no, that would not make her very stealthy, would it? With a flick of her ears she mentally cleared her mind, listening for elaboration.
"that is why... We are here.. I will teach you," The burnt warrior dropped into an experienced crouch, paws placed strategically infront of another, legs bent and tail hovering over the ground.
"Make sure... The wind isn't... Blowing from behind you towards your opponent... They will easily sense you. You need to make sure each step... Is calculated and placed down softly. put your weight on your haunches and remember to not bring your paws down so hard." It demonstrated by taking silent steps forward, body low and still, unmoving against the chilling wind.
"Now you try and sneak up to me. You will... Need to get close enough and pounce on me... All while I do not hear you. I... Will close my eyes... Since we are only working on being silent. Go." With that, Orangeslice trotted a few fox-lengths forward and shut his eyes, tail brushing against the ground. Determined, Windpaw kneaded the ground a few times and dropped to a crouch, and began to creep towards the warrior.
