thorns and beaks [p]
ROOKFIRE
[ he/him | shadowclan enforcer | purrks ]
⤷ᯓ★ˎˊ˗ mid 20s | large & lean ˗ ★
~ the “devil” ~
✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧rookfire half-heartedly shook rain out of his pelt, slicked down and sticking to his skin. no matter how hard he tried, it wouldnt stop being a fruitless labour. usually, he'd at least make an attempt to avoid a downpour like this but it wasnt letting up and now matter how tight the air around felt he had things to do, places to be.
specifically, now that he was free of apprentice training for a moment, until the rain let off at least, he could make an effort to improve himself a bit. large paws hit the ground in rhythmic wet squelching as he moved across the clearing, abandoning his outlook at the entrance in order to seek out briarsplash. his roleplayer just now remembered they were going to go on a far more lighthearted trip but has already written far too much yapping to delete it.
"briarsplash. you busy?" rook has never really taken notice of her suffix. splash. heh. only thing missing was a secret backstory, hidden away like it would ruin her life. another cat from riverclan, blessed with anonymity. it would be funny. in the sad way.
"i was wondering if i could persuade you ta' head out for a spar?" the younger enforcer asked, awkward half smile stretched across his maw. where did that come from. why did he have to suddenly start speaking in weird half professional half pitiful attempt at being cool. why now.

Re: thorns and beaks [p]
~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch | killer aptitude t2
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 34 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]
~
Wet. She hated being wet. It was nice that her thick pelt often saved her skin from being drenched, given that the water had layers and layers of fluff to soak through before she'd get too cold. But it was one of those particular days where the persistent drizzle made her feel soggy, and Briarsplash wasn't having it.
But something else entered her senses besides the merciless tirade of droplets: Rookfire. The fellow Enforcer had padded up to her, and it made Briar curiously raise one of her whisker brows. Not that she minded the warrior at all — in fact, she was probably one of the few who could say she actually liked the guy, despite whatever flack he often got. That was mainly just 'cause she saw his usefulness and how he got things done. That was enough to get anyone a leg up in her book. But she also didn't find him annoying, so... that was as close to friends as she really got.
For a greeting, all he got was a curt nod — typical of her, but no less abrasive or no more welcoming than usual. But the second sentence is what made both brows go up; a spar, eh? Suddenly a glint had entered those golden-green eyes, one that looked rather... intrigued. Enough that she seemed to ignore the rather awkward smile that she never saw on that dark face of his.
"Eh? Didn't get enough of a pummeling when Owlthroat went at ya?" Briarsplash muttered. To anyone else, it would've sounded like a jab — but hopefully to her comrade, it was more like a friendly tease. And challenge. She'd seen how viciously the leaner warrior had fought, despite Owlthroat's superior strength and size, and couldn't deny that she had been a little curious herself as to how she'd fare against him.
The large fluffy she-cat seemed to ponder for a moment; her mind had already been decided, but she'd make it seem like more of a hassle than it was, as if she were debating on if Rook was worth the time or not. Then, with a gusty sigh, she rose to her paws and chuckled lowly to herself. She was cold to the bone from this rain, and a little adrenaline would warm her right up. Count her convinced.
"Mm... in this weather, it's an interesting choice. But maybe we can exchange some blows for a bit... why not." It'd been far too long since she'd properly sparred, and all the Enforcer challenge excitement had gotten her itching for one. Shaking out her sodden pelt, the faintest of smirks graced her maw (with that little tooth poking out) as she nodded to him. "Fine, then. Deal. Lead the way."
If anything, her acceptance of a spar might've shown Rookfire more than anything of the respect he'd earned in her eyes. Because she wouldn't be loping around in the mud for just any eager-pawed opponent.
