OrangeFlower padded up to the deputy carefully. She was sure now. She had to be sure now. FoxSkipper…after her fathers death, he was all she had. And he became her father…and now he was gone too. And…well…he always wanted her to follow her own dreams. That’s what she was doing. She had to do this, for herself and for him. For the cat that would never get to see her follow her passion, for the cat that would never get to…to meet her amazing and lovely mate officially. The thoughts made her heart hurt, but that’s what she’s use to push herself to her goal.

“SpiderThroat? I have a question.” she stated softly. She wouldn’t waste time with this request, she’d get right to the point. “I’ve…I’ve had something on my mind for a while. I don’t see anything wrong with being a warrior, but I think I could better fulfill the role of being a forever queen. I’ll do anything I need to prove it.”

The tom turned as a voice called his name. A look of questioning flashed over his features for a moment before it was replaced with a steely expression. "Forever queens hadn't worked in the past...what makes you stand out from the past failures?" he asked, attempting to prod.

She needs to give him more than that if she expected him to just okay a warrior stepping back from the lines, she was wrong.

OrangeFlower blinked, but she didn’t shy away. Her ears flicked slightly at the coldness in his words, but she had expected it — hoped for it, even. If he had let her have this too easily, it wouldn’t feel real. It wouldn’t be earned.

"I know they haven’t worked before," she replied steadily, though emotion pooled quietly behind her voice. "But I’m not asking to spend my days lounging in the nursery. I want to raise the next generation — teach them, care for them, support queens who don’t have help. Some warriors fight at the borders. I want to fight for our kits, SpiderThroat."

She swallowed, tail curling slightly as the weight of her words settled in her chest. "I want to be there for the kits whose parents can’t be.” Like her own. Once she became an apprentice, both were gone. And her father was never really present regardless, while mother was…something else. “The ones whose mothers die in kitting, whose fathers are buried before they even know their names. For the kits who feel alone, like they don’t belong. I want to be someone steady for them." Her voice trembled slightly but didn’t break. "And I want to help the queens who need support — who are too young, too tired, too afraid to do it all alone. I can assist with births if WolfHawk teaches me so. I can clean nests. I can soothe the ones who cry late into the night and give their mothers a few hours of peace."

Her eyes glinted, not with tears, but with quiet certainty.

"I’ll stay up with the sick litters. I’ll take in kits from other queens when I must, and raise them like my own until they have their paws under them. Until they wouldn’t need me anymore. If there’s a queen who can’t nurse, I’ll be there. If there’s a tom with no mate who needs someone to raise his kit, I’ll be there."

She looked at him, green eyes burning with grief-fueled definition.

"I’m not walking away from my duties. I’m walking into the one I was meant for. Let me prove it."

The calico narrowed his eyes. An old saying he'd once said to a Medicine cat of theirs that ... suddenly vanished.

"Orangeflower...do you know what the definition of insanity is?" he asked. Words falling out as if he'd rehearsed them time and time again. As if he'd been saying the same phrase for moons now. Not...seasons ago.

"It's doin the same thing over an over again...expectin a different answer...what you're sayin is great an all. It's mostly the same that other's had said they'd do. Gonna be honest with you. The Clan raises the kits who need it. The Clan, watches the sick ones when the mother's are tired. There isn't a need to make a specific role for a Forever Queen." a pause as he placed one paw on top of the other.

"My answer is no. Ain't nothing against you...it's the role you're shootin for itself. It's useless. Kits shouldn't need fightin for, they should be cared for. Sadly. This Clan is full of enough bleedin hearts that it isn't a problem right now. You're a good warrior, an a good mentor. I ain't gonna approve of you bein a Forever Queen, but I will move your passion elsewhere. You'll be a main apprentice trainer, an sometimes a kit event's trainer. Preppin the young ones for future apprentice trainin. That's your trial." a pause.

"I ain't gonna promise nothin. But we'll see how you fare from there."
