Training Maplepaw [P]

Nightfur was, in his opinion, the last cat he thought would get an Apprentice. But here he was with Maplepaw. Dawnstar really didn't seem to like him, though. So why had she given him an Apprentice? He couldn't figure out why, but he also couldn't sit out all day thinking about it. Stalking into the Apprentice's den, he gave a long 'ahem'. "Maplepaw! We've got training to do! Maplepaw?" He would feel like the greatest mousebrain to ever live if she wasn't even in the den.

Lounging in her nest, Maplepaw cracked an eye open at the slightly foreign voice.
"Huh? What..." Her eyes shot open, realizing she had become all-too used to her lack of training. "Oh. Hello, Nightfur." She murmured, standing up and shaking the sleep out of her eyes. She weaved her way around the other apprentice's nests, finally making her way to her mentor.
"What's on the agenda today?" She asked, attempting to hide the eagerness in her voice. She'd finally be on track with the rest of her peers.

Right! The agenda.. what were they supposed to do? He hadn't thought of that yet, but he had time in-between getting her out of the den and getting to the training area to think about it, but then again maybe he should let Maplepaw make the decision? "What do you want to learn? I think it'll be more effective to learn what you think is important to you." StarClan he sounded as soft as a kittypet.

"Well..." She trailed off, her head tilting to the side. What was important to her?
"Battling, I think. I haven't been able to participate in any fights or spars yet." She admitted, her gaze drifting to nowhere in particular. "It sucks being around all the other apprentices who know so many battle moves already."

Right, battle training! He nodded to the she-cat. "Of course, come on. We'll get started when we get there!" He was upset with himself that he hadn't trained her earlier; he felt bad when she spoke about the fact that her peers were already doing so well with their battle training. He'd have to step things up today. Nightfur padded out of the den with a flick of his tail to have the Apprentice follow him.

Maplepaw padded after her mentor, relieved to be free from the confines of Shadowclan camp.
"So... what's being a warrior like?" she asked. Might as well make up the silence between them with absent chatter.

Ah, being a Warrior. He knew the first things he wanted to talk about were the good things, like hunting and protecting territory with the borders. Maybe the freedom of being able to go out of camp without supervision? "Well, of course there's the freedom to help your Clanmates out with hunting and border patrols, but I think the best part of being a Warrior is being able to go in and out of camp freely. I know you Apprentices can't be out of camp alone and need a Warrior or two with you, so being able to run around the marsh and catch all the prey you can carry or do some lazy border checks is great. And I'll let you in on a little secret," He leaned over and whispered. "Near our border and RiverClan's there's a small little pocket of water and it's the best water you'll ever drink. It's perfect for when you're out on a hot Greenleaf day, since it's super cold."

He sat up and chuckled when he stopped in his pawsteps; oh! They were there! He looked up at the cliffs and jumped onto one, thinking of how he'd input anything concerning battle into their training. He then had an idea.

He found a cliff with a flat surface and stepped onto it, then motioned for Maplepaw to come up with him.

Listening intently to Nightfur's explanation, Maplepaw's brows raised in interest. She should check that area out, someday.
As they approached the cliffside, she watched as her mentor leaped onto them, curious as to what he had in mind. At his beckoning, she made a running leap towards it, managing to scrabble onto it.
"Ugh." she scoffed, looking back to the edge of the cliff disdainfully before turning her attention back to her mentor.

Slightly relieved she had made it, Nightfur nodded and explained; "Alright. So you want battle training, so lets use the cliffs. What we'll do is I'll go to one flat surface on the cliffs and you'll have to come after me; I'll teach some battle moves once you do. I'll be trying to avoid you, but won't be trying too hard since this is training. I want to teach you this first because it'll be great for both learning how to run on the rocks in the rivers when fighting RiverClan and you can try to use the cliffs around you to to try to get a speed advantage, which will be extremely useful if we ever come to having to attack ThunderClan and can jump against the trees." He paused. Maybe this was too much? He thought about it as he looked around for a bit; all the cliffs had plates they could easily jump on, but some of the cliffs were taller than the others and if she accidentally ran into one or slipped, there'd be a fall to pay. Not something fatal, but of course it'd hurt. He looked at the Apprentice and decided to ask her to see how she felt. "Do you think that's too much?"

Maplepaw listened intently to Nightfur's longwinded explanation, nodding her head slightly absent-mindedly. She was... pretty sure she got it, at least. Whether her small form would be able to take any falls from these cliffs easily was another question.
"...Yeah, I think I'll be fine."She answered tentatively. She wasn't going to pass up on any training. She had to catch up; to be on par.
