Hickorykit, face oddly stoic in light of such a sunny day, sat perfectly straight, not a single hair out of place. Maybe it was out of ruthless habit - formed from her parents ridiculous groanings and complaints of her dirty past shenanigans - that she had not a spec of dirt, dust, or leaf to show. Though on the inside, she had an odd, crawling, itchy sensation that threatened to make her squeal at a small inconvenience. There was a definitive reason for her madness, for she had to pretend she was skilled and knowledgeable, versatile in many apprentice duties, because she was competing with somebody. Competing wasn't the right word for it - because that would mean the other party accepted the conditions of their rivalry. Yes, as childish as it might seem, the well-versed kit had started a one-sided rivalry with Bunnykit. Had they wronged her any way? No, but these days she hardly needed a reason for anything. While she looked so perfect on the outside, not an ounce of emotion to her face or name, she was boiling on the inside. Bunnykit was in front of her, leaps away, pouncing at a leaf with unexpected accuracy. Was it his intention to flex such passionate skill? Probably not, but to see a cat excel when she'd worked so hard and yet still lacked skill made steam come out of her nose. Of course, she wasn't going to confront him, or talk to him ever. She may be unreasonable, but she had some sense at least. To go out asking for trouble was asking for some cat to hate you, and she didn't need that.

While Hickorykit silently flounced with her paws pressing into the ground, she thought up ways of how to improve her pouncing and crouching.

So was this what being the son of Enforcers felt like? The lean, scarred kit's golden eyes focused solely on the leaf before him. Papa owls had taught him a few moves, aswell as how to dissect the mother that the wing behind his ear came from.

A flash of black and specks of gray zipped past, a big paw slamming down on the leaf with skilled acuity. "Ha! Take that thunderclan squirrel-brain!" He chattered, grinning as he shredded the leaf with a long claw. The lean kit's moons of being with parents who had forced him to be a distinct Predator, when they tried to kill him which lead to him spending another moon on his own. There was a method to his abilities. A reason for his skill. He had to be skilled, he had to survive, he didn't have a choice.

Hickorykit found herself starting to mirror the kits actions from afar, her paws kicking up dust and clouding her pelt. Though she was way too lost in her process to recognize how unkempt her fur became. Once she could finally, at a decent pace, mirror Bunnykit's moves without looking, she practiced on the ground. It made her pelt dustier, and the dustier, the dirtier, the messier she became, the more a spark returned to her eyes. Her face was uplifted, eyebrows scrunched in the invested kit-way. She was intensely focused on hitting the same spot on the ground - as unsuccessful as she was. There was something so... fun ...about jumping and enthusiastically trying something out, even if you were great at something. She felt her resentment slowly fading, her crystal eyes drifting back to Bunnykit, a weird, slight admiration forming in the back of her head. He genuinely looked interested in what he was doing, or maybe he was like her and put on a facade? No. She couldn't assume cats were like her, a disgustingly dutiful fate. She wouldn't wish such pressure on her worst enemy - let alone a silly rival.

Bunnykit paused in his mock battle to look at Hickorykit, who was copying his moves. The lean tom blinked and tilted his head, padding up with his usual kind smile. "Hi! you practicing battle moves too?" He asked, ears perked in a small, desperate hope that this kit was like him, that's he had something she had to prove too. The lean, scarred Kit's eyes gleamed in hope, in a small little prayer somebody was like him.

The Enforcers kit was intrigued to say the least, she seemed happy! "Make sure to not use just one swipe! give the spot a flurry!"

Peculiar. Hickorykit's heart raced, her anger, that had been totally real and not just a mistaken emotion, quickly vanished into thin air. Why was she suddenly so nervous? It was an odd, twisting, suffocating feeling - like she'd lost control.

"Um.. y-yeah... why?"

Her voice clicked and strained, her eyes fluttering for the next object she could fixate on. Why was being in silence so much easier than interacting face-to-face? The same issue always arose and she couldn't figure out the root. Maybe it had something to do with her nerves because of her apprenticeship coming. Maybe it wasn't, maybe she'd find out later.

Bunnykit's advice was... helpful, she had to admit. Though every fiber in her body still wanted to harbor a rivalry hatred, it refused to return.

"Th...Thanks..- Thank you,"

Hickorykit's stuttering was sending her into an awkward frenzy. Wasn't she supposed to be confident and independent? Isn't that what her parents told her to do? She felt so lost without their constant mutterings, her head was spinning.

Honestly, Hickorykit's stuttering did not at all bother the tom, he was used to cats of all different types, so when she took his advice, he was quite proud of himself, head held high.

"Of course! Everyone's gotta work together! that's what makes a clan work! It's better than being alone.." He murmured the last part, blinking. He knew all to well of how cruel some parents could be.

"Okay so! Drop down onto your paws, get into a position that is confy for you! Not every cat fights the same!" He smiled, dropping into his personal fighting stance, ready to show his bursts of speed. "Then, when you're ready, attack!"

Hickorykit's once disinterested eyes shone with the light of a thousand silverpelt's. Whether it was the kits own, very enthusiastic energy rubbing off on her or something she thought she'd bury deep long ago, she decided - against her better judgement - to entertain her joyful thoughts. It would be nice, especially with something training related, she supposed. Rationalizing simple, fun outings or fun tasks, had become an afterthought for her. The taste you feel when you finish prey rather than the flavor. She quietly got into a comfortable crouch - one her father hadn't pointlessly ridiculed to the ends of the sky. Her steady paws grasped the ground firmly, her haunches waggling as she made for a leap. Her sheathed paw landed softly on Bunnykit's nose, a giggle erupting from Hickorykit's silent face. This was fun. It didn't feel like an obligation, it just... what did it feel like? It felt like watching sunrises, it felt like watching the water - not swimming in it, being mesmerized by it - it felt like examining the stars. All compartitive feelings, all very real feelings, but none as personal as her sudden blooming friendship with Bunnykit.

"Again?"

She asked, her blue eyes shaping the expression of a question. They failed, her grin spreading eagerly across her face.
