"Shadowedcall..." She murmured, testing it out on her tongue. "You're one of the newbies, huh?" She sat down, facing him. That would explain why both smelled and looked slightly unfamiliar. She scanned him with her yellow eyes, taking in his black and white coloring. "One of the three who joined at the last announcement?" Gutworm's tail curled around her paws- well, one of them, as it wasn't quite that long anymore.

"How are you liking the clan?" She asked with a curious smile. "Can you swim yet?"

answers answers. what a funny thing, huh? words in general, how did he know how to speak at all? whatever. it didnt really matter too much to him anyway. "aye, but 'newbie' is not a term i wish t'... associate myself with." he would give her a glare for disturbing his peace, but he needs to be more social, so cinder is making him not do it.

Gutworm shrugged. "Sorry," she said in response to Shadowedcall's initial comment. "I just meant new to the clan, not incompetent." The tip of her tail twitched, and she ached to move, but Gutworm knew it was important to make at least a few connections. She didn't have many friends, after all.

When the tom mentioned his lack of swimming ability, Gutworm brightened. "Really?" she mewed, a bit too excitedly. "I could definitely help you out there. I'm a pretty good swimmer, you know. Not the best in the clan, but good enough to teach someone else." She kneaded the grass below her with her paws, tearing up little patches.

Heroneye continued on her way, looking for more horsetail. After this, she'd turn back to where they'd begun. Depending on what her patrolmates had managed to collect, she'd either try looking for some fennel or have them make their way back to camp. They still had plenty of time, but there was no need to keep Berryshine waiting for too long if they'd more or less found all they could.

As she fleshed all this out, she caught sight of another stalk of horsetail. She began padding towards it, when suddenly--

Splash!

Heroneye stagged sideways as her paw cut through a puddle and planted itself awkwardly in the dip in the ground. In her defence, the puddle had likely been there for some time and came to accumulate some of the junk (for lack of a better word) that standing water tended to collect--leafs and chunks of dirt and so on. In other words, to Heroneye's undiscerning eye, it appeared to be nothing more than another section of forest ground.

And now she was soaked. The puddle itself wasn't terribly deep, but the splash seemed to have sent an entire river's worth of water flying at the Lionheart. At least the herbs were still good... Probably. She sighed, silently hoped that she hadn't been seen (though her patrolmates would eventually see her soaked anyway, she supposed) and trudged on. She collect that cursed stalk of horsetail and turned back to meet with her patrol, gently shaking away drops of water as she went.

Heroneye wasn't the only one who'd taken a splash. Stagheart was just bringing back his fennel when he'd also let his paw slip, a quiet curse muffled by the herbs in his jaw escaping him. He shook out his paws, trying not to complain; newleaf rain was always far more preferable to leaf-bare snows. Besides, they were RiverClanners, and used to getting wet.

That didn't mean unexpected soakings were fun, however.

He spied out some more herbs on his way back to regroup, able to spot a little bit of horsetail. The others in the clump weren't grown enough yet, so he passed over them in favor of nipping off one of the stalks. The large tabby tom saw Heroneye approaching, then glanced around with a frown. He still hadn't seen Copperpaw.

"Didn't Copperpaw follow us...? Hmph." With a shrug, he faced the Lionheart again, giving her a nod. "I'm ready when you are."

Copperpaw scrambled to her paws and rushed to the rest of the patrol. Right before everyone got splashed. She yelped and shook out her fur quickly.

Heroneye blinked as Stagheart returned, and then Copperpaw after him. It seemed they had all gotten soaked in the end. Unfortunate, but at least Heroneye wasn't the only one. Well, maybe that was a bit selfish, but what was done was done. Silver linings and all that.

Speaking of Copperpaw, it seemed she had been behind for a bit, but had managed to catch up before Heroneye and Stagheart made their way back to camp. That was good; Heroneye had yet to have any of her patrolmates receive punishment for a patrol she led, and she had no interest in breaking that streak, if she could help it. That said, she and the other warrior were carrying just about as much as they could manage, whereas Copperpaw had yet to collect anything. Naturally, that wouldn't do.

Heroneye placed her herbs at her paws to address the apprentice. "There you are. See if you can collect some fennel or horsetail before we return to camp." She excused Copperpaw by way of a nod. Assuming the apprentice didn't have any questions or comments to add, Heroneye would look around the area for any extra herbs, not wanting to stray too far from the meeting place while she awaited Copperpaw's return.

well, the cat wasnt lying about their intent. even that shard of solace brought him a hint of peace. he glanced up to the sky, cloudy and miserable. "maybe when its not cold. contrary t' popular belief, i dont like t' freeze my ass off." truthfully, he did want to learn, but a warmer day where he could try off faster would be a better time to do so. "anythin' else?"

Stagheart grunted in agreement, his eyes flicking over Copperpaw. The apprentice seemed to have gotten lost for a bit, and was now drenched. But he had no room to talk about that; his pelt was a few shades darker from the thorough soaking he'd taken.

The warrior did the same as Heroneye, setting his herbs down and taking a gander for anything else while they waited for Copperpaw to grab a few (not that he could carry much more). "Don't uproot everythin' — just grab a few of the best ones," he called after the apprentice, remembering Berryshine's words. "Just leaves 'n stems, really." As soon as Copperpaw was done, they could all head back and get themselves nice and dry.

Copperpaw mewed in happiness as she saw a thick fennel plant. She closed her mouth around it and uprooted it. +1 fennel.
