Briarsplash was more than pleased at the outcome. A lot more cats showed up than she'd anticipated; good thing most of them already knew how to hunt, and were here to help support the Clan. She was no less pleased to spy Dawnstar and Mistlewhisker among them, and... hey, even Sleepysunrise.

Upon seeing the scarred leader, and some others with recent injuries like Flytail and Hazycry, she'd almost begrudgingly wondered if she should tell them to back off. But similarly to Rookfire's thoughts, once she saw Sleepy, she was more than fine to kick back. Hey, if the medic thought they were fine, then good. And if any of them tore open a scabbed wound, she'd be right there, eh?

The Enforcer's golden-green eyes surveyed the crowd silently beside Rookfire. Then she glanced over at him, the faintest of smirks on her maw — something akin to brute humor. "You wanna split 'em up?" she offered. One, because she didn't like speaking any more than she had to. And two, Rookfire was much more vocal (comparatively) when it came to asserting himself. He'd probably want a shot at this whole organizing... thing. Was she imagining the eagerness in his eyes?

She figured he'd be smart enough to offer himself (or her) for training if anyone needed tips and tricks on how to hunt, and specifically at night. Otherwise, they could send the others off willy-nilly through the forest and hunt to their heart's content, or whatever he'd wanna do. With this crowd, they should be drawing in a good amount of prey, unless everyone totally bombed it. This would be a good opportunity to make up for any slackers on Mistlewhisker's recent hunting patrols, eh? Maybe a nice little feast afterwards would be in order.

"Go for it," Briarsplash grunted after a moment, sweeping her tail to let Rookfire take the stage. It gave her a moment to look around one more time for a... certain orange pelt. No, she wasn't... disappointed, or anything. Pfft.

gulp. it appeared rookfire had summoned mistlewhisker as well. the enforcer didnt let that throw him off the imaginary path just yet, even if anxiety crawled up his back. silver eyes flicked to briarslash as she spoke, putting up a calm exterior. "yes" the tom gladly accepted the offer. he'd wanted to do as much anyway, though unwilling to crash briarsplashs flow of speech or any plans she mightve made without his input.

he let his eyes skim the crowd once more before clearing his throat and raising his voice. "alright, apprentices first, organise yourselves into groups or keep in mind who's group youre in id hate to repeat myself" he barked, subsequently drawning attention back to briarsplash and himself.

"deerclaw, basspaw, shadepaw, emberpaw youre gonna come with me" was it a bit mean to pick the, in his opinion, less complicated apprentices (spar deerclaw)...probably. but he preferred his own apprentice and emberpaws overall quiet nature over houndpaw in a group setting, sorry not sorry.

"that means weepingpaw, petalpaw, houndpaw n bunnypaw go with briar" the even split in apprentices was very much welcome, easier to explain than if he gave his own group more of them. once the apprentices seemed to have somehow gotten their assigned group into their noggins he continued, this time assigning warriors sort of randomly.

all apart from dawnstar, in that case he was almost tempted kindly put her in briarsplashs group in order to avoid walking on eggshells the whole time but changed his mind last minute. he had never known himself to be particularly smart so who was even surprised he'd assign dawnstar to his own group in an attempt to get back on her good -or at least neutral- side.


"dawnstar, mistlewhisker, blackjaw, you'll be with me, as well as lynxpelt, twilightflame, blazebreeze, timberlake and bramblethorn" honestly he barely knew half of these cats by sight let alone name so itd be a quick test of memory for him every time he'd have to remember one of their names.

"that leaves flytail, silverdusk, smokefern, sleepysunrise, hazycry, falconsplash, honeycomb and newtbelly with briarsplash" even though he hadnt actually intended for that to happen, it appeared both injured cats (apart from dawnstar) had sorted themselves (via rookfires brain) into the same group as sleepysunrise.

with that, rookfire decided this part of the event done and turned to lead them out of camp.

huge chocolate brown tom with darker brown markings that go down his back and limbs; lighter brown underbelly and chest. has a striped tail and small, tufted ears with round, blazing golden eyes. has thick fluffy fur and a raccoon-like striped tail. he has a single tooth that overlaps his bottom lip and is commonly covered in mud. he is missing half of his right ear; smells like dirt & wood. struggles with a stutter & motor tics (involuntary movement). ⋆｡˚ ☁︎ ˚｡⋆｡˚☽˚｡⋆

⊱ ۫ ׅ ✧ Houndpaw was content with cuddling his sister, perhaps he might've even dozed off himself until something soft hit gently against his shoulder. He paused, eyes taking a brief glance to discover a sleepy Weeps resting on him. The quiet purr coming from him turned into a loud, motor-like rumble.

He leaned over to gently lick his brother's forehead before doing the same to Emberpaw. Back and forth the apprentice went, eyelids beginning to droop as the cozy warmth coaxed him into a sleep. ZzzzzzZzzz.

It was only at the summon of his name did Houndpaw jolt up straight, golden eyes dancing around in the midst of his confusion. (He stared at MistleMa in surprise - where'd she come from!) Right! Hunting! His tail swished back and forth, tilting his head. Uhm. Where was Burr? Mama? He liked having Weeps in his group but what he did not like was being separated.

He gave a small nudge against Weepingpaw with his nose before skittering out from underneath. He stood in front of his family - opening his jaws only to realize a Sleepysunrise had appeared, too. Eek! Houndpaw darted forward, attempting to affectionately bonk one of her legs before pulling back.

"Rooks makes bad groups. You all come with me instt..tt-t.-t.." Houndpaw's voice trailed off, coming to a block at the word 'instead' which he decided to abandon, "Hunt with me? P-please?' He requested with a smile, tail wagging excitedly. It wasn't like they didn't have warriors on Rookfire's team. It was fine.

Everyone was joining, it seemed. Emberpaw was content to be surrounded by his family. When Rookfire and Briarsplash made groups, Emberpaw frowned when he was separated from his brothers. He was happy to be with Mother and Mistle, yes, but it was a shame his brothers couldn't come. However... Emberpaw was a little excited to get to spend some one-on-one time with his Mother. "We have to be separate," Emberpaw meowed to Houndpaw, "because we will hunt all the prey and no one else will get to catch any." He nodded sagely. "Wouldn't stand a chance. Besides, you have Sleepysunrise. She's just as cool." It was a blatant lie but Emberpaw had never claimed to always be truthful when it came to making his siblings happy.

Mistlewhisker looked on, tail swishing the ground behind her in slow, lazy sweeps. Hm... perhaps patrols could wait until later tomorrow. Maybe she would be nice. Maybe.

Ah, she should've known that Rookfire would've given himself the more level-headed apprentices if given the chance. Well played. Besides a knowing, halfhearted glare, the she-cat didn't say anything as she let her fellow Enforcer split them up. And he took Dawnstar and Mistlewhisker too, hm? Rather bold of him. Perhaps he was vying to regain his leader's fondness.

If you want that, just don't push your luck, she mused to herself. Rookfire's courageous (or foolish, some might say) challenge of Hawkbite's position at the Enforcer event was somehow impressively ambitious, and far too brash. Still, she could at least appreciate his internal vision, given that half of the other cats who'd vied for a challenge hadn't even been worth consideration under Dawnstar's point of view. Rookfire was at least one of those that could talk and follow up his claims with some fine fighting and duty. It'd earned her begrudging respect over time.

Anyway, she perked back up to focus on who actually was assigned to her group, not who wasn't. It didn't escape her that all the others who'd fought, including Newtbelly, Flytail, and Hazycry, were with her. And they had Sleepysunrise, which was good — if their injuries acted up, the medicine cat was right there. Briarsplash figured all of these guys were competent enough to know their own limits, but then again, the amount of frog-brains even in her own Clan could surprise her.

The Enforcer watched with a peculiar expression as Houndpaw claimed Rookfire made bad groups; she let out a raspy scoff, shrugging her broad shoulders. "Get used to it, kid. You can't always go in the groups you want." That being said, if he or anyone else wanted to split off or cling to somebody, she wouldn't stop 'em. This was just a casual night hunting event, not an official patrol. She wasn't paid to care that much. (I just work here)

Briarsplash would give a few minutes for her Clanmates to settle into their new groups as they pleased before giving Rookfire a curt nod. Then she turned to her own, eyes narrowed in a neutral but focused expression.

"Alright, you heard 'im. If you're with me, we're headed out. Once we get there, don't go too far, but don't get in other cats' business, either." The instruction came as she rose to her paws once more, beckoning them all with her fluffy tail. Then she began to pad out, silent for most of the walk into the forest.

It was a pleasant evening in greenleaf, and the sky was darkening to cover them in a blanket of early stars. Briarsplash peered up at it as they walked, generally following Rookfire's group until she split off at a certain point, making sure each group would have their space. As she came to a stop in a small clearing in between some looming pines, she turned to face her assigned faces.

"This seems like a good spot. If you know what you're doin', go on and meet me back here when you've caught a decent amount of prey. The rest of you, stick around for some tips." She'd wait a moment for them to do that, and then fixed her attention on whoever was left. "Night hunting is a bit different than daytime, mainly 'cause of what creatures are more active and because of your own visibility. Besides that, the forest gets quieter, too, which you gotta match. Got it?" A sharp golden-green gaze surveyed those that stayed, ensuring that they were listening. They better be.

"Now, I'm only going to offer this once right now, so speak now or I'm not waiting for you. If you want to learn night hunting specifics, or need to learn basic hunting at all, come stand by me and I'll teach you." If they were too meek or shy, she'd just pass over them, and they'd have to forever hold their frustrated peace. She'd have no patience with those that'd hesitate to better their skills.
