Not too long ago, Newtbelly and Owlthroat had done a bit of night hunting for an event. And then Briarsplash had just taught Wispypaw on some pointers, as well, for that 'paw's own training. It inspired her to want to try her paw in organizing another training event, and for getting prey for the Clan; she hadn't done one herself since the tree-climbing demonstration, and besides, they could always use more prey.

She was interested to see who'd actually drag their sorry pelts out of their den now that the sun was sinking low into the sky, painting the pines in oranges and golds as night descended upon the forest. It was warm and breezy, a pleasant early greenleaf evening, and the earliest stars were already twinkling on the far end of the sky that'd already faded into blue-black.

After a brief chat with Rookfire, she padded with the fellow Enforcer to the middle of the clearing. She was trying to catch that perfect timing where the most cats would be winding down after patrols/duties all day but not yet in their nests. If she wanted to be effective, participation was key.

"ShadowClan!" A raspy voice rang out across the clearing (sorry for anyone who was asleep already... but she wasn't really sorry). "We did somethin' similar not too long ago, and we could always use some more prey. So Rookfire and I are taking out warriors 'n apprentices to do some night hunting." She tilted up her muzzle, peering at the sky. By the time they'd make it out deep into the territory, it should be perfectly dark to begin. "If you are rusty or don't know how to do it, we'll teach you. If not, quit draggin' your paws 'n help some others catch something."

There were definitely some pointers to be given about this particular style and time of hunting, which she would be passing along for all those who wanted/needed to learn. She glanced at Rookfire, letting him add anything if he so wished, before turning back to the main throng that would hopefully be forming around them.

"Get on over here, and we'll head out as soon as can."

This is another night hunting event, inspired by the recent one and the fact that Briarsplash has done some training with it lately/wants to pass along her pointers (lol).

Apprentices, this can count towards your training requirements! Briar/Rook will be available for you to learn hunting if they don't know the basics.

Be mindful that your cat can carry up to 5 pieces of prey, unless you have The Collector; then it goes up to 8.

If you have another hunting-related purrk, perhaps your cat picks this up rather quickly, hm?

Flytail padded out of the warriors den his whole body was sore esspesially his cheek but he kept in mind what dawnstar had said and well he couldnt lurk in the shadows if he wanted to be noticed and well he wasnt going to live in his brothers shadow forever. He also prided himself for being a decent night hunter and stealth teacher so even if he couldnt catch to much prey he could still help teach he took a seat up near where briarspalsh was but he wouldnt mind some company

Blackjaw walked up to the slowly gathering crowd, claws flexing in and out of the ground. This would be good for him to test his skills. He was luckily getting back on Dawnstar's good side, by some miracle. He needed to keep that up.

Oh, hey, that was his mentor's name! Basspaw didn't mind getting up and padding over to where they were supposed to gather—he was pretty much down for anything, it seemed. The apprentice raised his legs so that he was standing on the tips of his paws and tried to catch Rookfire's glance to give his mentor a little smile of a hello. He knew the Enforcer'd be busy with the event and all, but he did think it'd be a little nice to have a small little acknowledgement.... not mandatory....

Well, she had been enjoying the evening fade into the night before the call for night hunting was sent out. Hm... it would be better to do that than sit around in camp. Smokefern got up, and padded over to join the gathering cats.

The night was cool and luxurious. Shadepaw loved the quiet stillness and the shadows concealing the camp, the little stars twinkling in the distance like fireflies, insignificant dots beautifying the night sky. Here, she was in her element. She blended in perfectly with the darkness all around, her black pelt against the blackness of everywhere. There weren't too many cats out, either---that was always a refresher. She remembered when she was a kit, hiding, watching the camp and other cats go about their day. It was much preferable to being in the nursery with her unnerving mother, watching her and judging her and calculating her every move. She felt a pang of nostalgia. When she was a kit, things were so much simpler. Well, I'm not a kit anymore, she thought sharply to herself abruptly. I wouldn't want to be so pathetic and weak. Yes, that was what kits were: pathetic and weak. It was weak of her to feel nostalgic, like she almost wanted to go back to the way things were. I'm not weak. I won't be. Her amber eyes burned with resentment at herself. If she kept on having these thoughts, Clovepool would never, ever approve of her. Dismay and dread pooled through her. That won't happen. I'll make it not happen.

A sharp, clear call rang through the clearing, snapping her out of her thoughts. Amber gaze turned to the dilute tortoishell standing in the clearing. Night hunting. Maybe this would clear her thoughts, give her a clear objective to succeed in, as well as furthering herself in capability, to gain a chance to be noticed... By Clovepool and the high ranks. If Silentpaw can do it, I definitely can, she thought, jealousy curling her claws.

Dark pelt slipped through the dim clearing to the group slowly starting to gather. She knew how to hunt, of course she'd had lessons, but she'd never hunted at night before. It seemed easier, of course, because of the obvious darkness as an advantage and her own shadowy pelt. But she knew the scents would carry further in the crisp, clear night air, so she'd have to be more careful. Maybe she could get a warrior to tell her anything else that's needed to know, otherwise she thought it would pretty much be the same as day hunting.

The Queen of Mean should probably be resting, but she couldn't pass up a hunting event at night. Dawnstar left her perch on the ledge outside her den and quickly joined the few cats already there. The leader sits off to the side, flicking her tail back and forth. She was still healing, so she'd have to be careful not to get any dirt or overstrain herself. The cuts on her flank, shoulder, and muzzle were taking some time to scar, much to her annoyance, and she wasn't interested in visiting her granddaughter for new herbs if she tore them open.

Her eyes flickered toward Flytail, glad to see he was putting in the work. She had hoped he had put thought into her words about standing beside Owlthroat instead of behind him. Hawkbite was right, he had the potential hidden under this humble, silent exterior. He should stop living in his brother's legacy and start working on making his own. Whether that was starting a family of his own or earning an elite rank, lurking in the shadows would get him nowhere.

The tore her amber gaze from Flytail and glanced around, wondering if any of her spawn would join the hunt. It would be nice to see how they were doing with hunting and stealth.
