Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat Apprentice Applications!
Semi-WIP - feel free to read, but I will be coming back to this and tweaking as needs be, till the due date!
Seapaw
he/they - demiboy
Previously known as: Shellkit, Shellpaw
*changed due to RC having multiple Shellpaws. When they get their full name, their prefix will be returned to Shell
**or if they do end up as MCA I’d love them to go back to the name Shellpaw
What's that smell in the air? It's kind of fresh, sort of sea-grass like. A little earthy, maybe. You pad along slowly, unsure where you are. Then, you hear it. The soft trickle of a river, just ahead. You keep walking, the round pebbles beneath your paws turning to gravel as you go. A riverbank comes into view and then you see them. A sleek white bengal - a little lanky looking, but not quite tall. They don’t seem aware of your pawsteps, nor anything else, to be honest. He’s watching the river intently, as though it were a riveting show: the fish dancing a ballet, and the water singing a song of its own. He’s absolutely captivated. To you, it just looks like a normal river, but who are you to judge? You continue to walk toward them. They still haven’t noticed you, but you sit down beside them.
They jolt. “Oh gosh!”Oops. You didn’t mean to scare them. They blink at you a few times, clearly taken by surprise.“Sorry! I didn’t see you there! Hello.” They smile kindly at you, then pause to think for a few seconds, a look of contemplation on their face. Their voice is quite soft, a little higher pitched than the average tom, but nothing extreme. “I think I’m dreaming right now, aren’t I?” You say nothing. Better not tell him he’s a fictional cat, that might freak him out a bit. Their smile goes stronger, and they laugh, “I knew it!” Their tail wafts giddily, quite proud of themself for figuring it out. “So you’re a dream cat, huh?”He tilts his head at you, but soon goes back to watching the water.
Some seconds pass as they dip their paw in the river, beginning to stir it about, watching the intricate ripples and waves form.“Or, are you one of those dream walkers?”He tilts his head. You’re not sure what to say. You don’t think you’re a dream walker, you’ve just been written here. You’re more so reading Seapaw’s story, than walking his dream. Or… Reading his dream? But, again, you probably shouldn’t tell them that. So, you avoid the question and simply shrug.
“Hmm.” They don’t get stuck on it for long, soon going back to their paw in the river. Now they’re moving it around in a figure-eight pattern, a soft smile on their face. A silence passes over the two of you. Cicadas are chirping, filling the night with sound. Some frogs croak in the distance, too. And of course, the gentle trickle of the river continues. It must be a summer night. Or, Green Leaf, for a cat like Seapaw. After some time has passed, they finally look at you again. “Do you like swimming?” Their eyes twinkle with curiosity. You nod, and they’re once again grinning.
Before you can think, you’re splashed by a ginormous wave of river water. “Oh! Oh gosh, sorry!” They swim back up to the riverbank, sympathetic, but unable to hide the tiny giggle that comes out. Perhaps they’re a little more brash than usual, after all, they think you’re a dream cat; To them, this interaction doesn’t have any consequences. Already drenched, you suppose you should join them in the water.
Hopefully the way I’ve spliced this format gives you a break from my boring bits, haha <3
But, here they are, the boring bits! I’ve addressed each criterion separately because that just makes sense to me !
Activity
I can’t believe the time’s passed so quickly, but as of this month, I’ve been active on WCO for a year! It’s honestly become my main creative outlet at this point, and it brings so much joy to my life. I like to think all the theatre knowledge I have from my childhood finds a good place fuelling my silly cats. I’ve stayed consistent throughout my time on the site, and though there have been slower times, I find that these only really happen when I have few rps to keep track of, leading to a lack of inspiration. I won’t lie and say that I’ve never had points where I’ve felt unmotivated or burnt out, because I certainly have! However, I believe I’ve learnt to manage this well, shortening my posts a little and focusing on my time-sensitive/ important role plays.
Communication
Discord is a great way to get hold of me quickly, as I have it installed on both my phone and laptop. I believe I communicate well overall. For instance, when I have a few days of lower activity, I tend to put it in my signature or status in advance. I’ve yet to experience a time when I’m inactive enough for it to be relevant to share further - but if I were to go on a hiatus, or swap to time sensitive only for more than one weekend, I would let the enforcer discord know!
Of course, in a High Rank role, where I’m expected to reply to healing role plays and keep on top of tasks, I would ensure other hrs are aware when I’m on time sensitive only for a weekend.
Character
Without making this sound too much like a CV (resume for all you Americans), I’ve worked in customer service and hospitality in the past, so I’m equipped with the tools to behave maturely, even if I believe others in the situation aren’t behaving in such a way. Though I say that, it’s not just showing customer service face - kindness is an important thing to me! Everyone deserves understanding, and more often than not, dramas are the result of miscommunications, as opposed to a result of any real malice. I’m always happier to resolve a situation properly, than to get lost in drama and anger.
Organisation
This is the bit where this probably will start looking like a CV, but I fear it’s unavoidable! I pride myself on my organisational skills: my day-to-day job is in administration, so I spend most of my time organising digital systems (and *shudders* paperwork). I have to create robust ways to keep track of things (be that on WCO or in my workplace). For instance, I ensure absolutely everything is recorded via my trackers - I often check over my ongoing role plays to make sure I haven’t missed any mentions or forgotten to reply, and like to make checklists or replies to get through. I also tend to prioritise time sensitive> training> social.
I do think if Seapaw got a position as Medicine Cat Apprentice, I might switch to a Google Sheet tracker, if only due to the sheer volume of healing rps that can come up. Conditional formatting is very helpful!
Time
I may work long-ish hours, however, I do manage to find plenty of time for WCO. I’m normally online every day: writing both from home, and on my lunch breaks.
Currently, I’m able to keep on top of replies, with time to spare beyond this. I’m quite committed to making sure I’m on top of my roleplays, and will see to them before starting anything new.
I currently have four characters and do not plan on adding any more to this roster. I’ve learnt not to bite off more than I can chew! I love being able to give all of my characters the time and energy they deserve. If Seapaw were to be chosen, I would be prioritising him and putting my extra time into his posts. I believe I’ve demonstrated my capability in time management through sharp replies to Newtbelly’s enforcer battle, whilst continuing to manage my other roleplays on the side.
Dedication
Seapaw is an incredibly special character to me. Their first post was on the 11th of June 2024, meaning I’ve held onto them for 11 months now! I plan on rping him right through till he’s an elder - genuinely, you can pry this kid from my cold dead hands. Seapaw is one of those characters who I genuinely just want to be happy - I didn’t plan for them to go through the things they’ve gone through, but as fate would have it, they just so happened to be born just before RiverClan’s 3v1. Despite this, in comparison to my other characters, their personality is an absolute breath of fresh air to write. They’re just someone who wants to get by, and have fun times with their friends. I don't plan on getting them invested in any big personal plots, maybe some cutesy romances eventually (unless they're prohibited for RC med cats and I haven't realised-), but nothing that would distract from their role in the clan.
Though Seapaw hasn’t done anything of much note, I like to hope I keep them active enough to be a consistent character in RiverClan! They’re currently on 200 total posts (across all ranks), and 109 in public threads.
I would very much enjoy contributing to RiverClan - I think, books-wise WindClan and RiverClan are my tied favourites. Though, I'd probably be a RiverClanner if I got transported to the Warriors universe (or, probably more likely, a very sleepy kittypet). Anyway what I mean to say with my waffling, is that RiverClan is a clan I'm invested in!
You pounce into the river after them. It’s a little cold, but that’s not a bother on a warm night like this. “Who are you, then, dream cat?”They ask cheerily. You shrug and look at them. ‘Well, I’m actually a twoleg that role plays on a cat website, and we kind of… control you lot,’ doesn’t seem apt at all. “Not much of a talker, huh?” You nod, looking at them curiously. “Well, I can speak, if you want. I can tell you about me.” They reply calmly, treading water in the river. You nod again. “Alrighty, well, I really like swimming, that’s one thing.” They explain, “it helps me focus. I normally feel a little bit floaty, like I always want to daydream, but when I’m in the water, it’s like I’m suddenly far more in the moment.” The apprentice reflects, and allows silence wash over you both again. They lead the way, continuing to swim down the calm river.
Seapaw can be a bit of a daydreamer, though he is able to control this well, and it doesn’t enter into the realm of maladaptive daydreaming. It makes him happy, imagining swimming with the fishes when he’s stuck in camp, or stressing out. It actually came about as a coping mechanism when he was a young kit, having to deal with RiverClan being attacked and moving to the mountains - and, though he may not know it, this is what he would fall back on if he had to fight in a real life battle.
Don’t get them wrong though - they may be a bit of a ditz, but they’re not irresponsible - they care a whole lot about the clan and getting their chores done. For instance, going on patrols, and cleaning up the nursery! Seapaw loves checking in on the kits (even if they’re an absolute pawful). He dreams of being the kind of figure he and his Salamanderpaw (his sister) always needed, when their mother went missing.
Swimming truly brings him into the moment; feeling the cold water in his fur and the current carrying him makes him feel so alive. Additionally, his passion for swimming helps him focus - though he’s happy to hunt for the sake of the clan, he isn’t exactly passionate about it. And don’t get them started on the idea of fighting, that one terrifies him. If he were able to help his clan in another way, a way in which he can find true passion, it could work just like swimming: giving him something to really care about, that pulls him out of his thoughts. Serving the clan as a medicine cat would absolutely do this for him. The thought has crossed his mind before, but he knows better than to pester the HRs for a rank!
You’re still swimming together. He yawns, gazing up at the sky dreamily, “I like the sky,” it comes out as a sort of hum.“It's just like the water, don't you think? And isn’t Silverpelt beautiful?” It really is. Not a cloud disrupts it tonight. “They say it's our warrior ancestors, don't they?” They try to maintain their calm, pay tone of voice, but you sense a twinge of sadness, which causes you to look at him quizzically. They look at you for another moment, seemingly figuring out the right thing to say. “I don’t know much about StarClan. No one ever taught me much about them, I guess.” They swim on, continuing “I do have some kind of faith in them, I suppose. I just know so little about them. But, it’s nice to know that cats get to rest there peacefully. No wars, no fighting. Just one big clan.” They’re clearly thinking about something, but you’re worried to prod. It seems like a tough subject for the apprentice.
“Gosh, I’m telling you an awful lot, aren’t I? It’s almost like someone’s writing the words coming out of my mouth.” He laughs, almost leaning on the off paw joke to take away some of his pain. “I suppose you’re a dream cat, though, aren’t you? I guess my subconscious or something put you here for me to talk to?”They give you a quizzical look, eyebrows raised, but you say nothing. They look ahead again, continuing to swim. They’ve decided their conclusion is correct. “I know of… A few cats who have died. No one close to me, I guess, but it hurts nonetheless, you know?” They gaze over their shoulder, a glance almost requesting reassurance, some kind of confirmation that you know what they mean. You nod. “Stormstar… She… I guess I was just starting to trust her a bit, you know? After learning all that stuff, about how she might have done something bad that made the other clans attack us.” He sighs, with another gaze to silverpelt. “I hope she’s up there now, making peace with whoever else was involved in that.”They wince, obviously not happy to remember the situation.”Gosh, dreams are weird.” They laugh, once again attempting to soften the pain.
Seapaw’s feelings on StarClan are somewhere in the realm of neutral to positive. This is something I’d love to build on for them, it’s just that at the current moment he hasn’t had much opportunity to learn about them - this, and his roleplayer doesn’t know any clan history prior to 2024 (lol). It is painful for him to acknowledge that Starclan hasn’t stopped bad things from happening - but gradually learning that the 3v1 did have a cause has stopped him from believing the world itself is out to get RiverClan.
Building on this, what about RiverClan? Seapaw’s opinions on his own clan have been troubled in the past. Mostly, because they felt entirely in the dark about clan relations and clan history. For instance, they grew up assuming that the 3v1 was brought on by pure cruelty, having no idea that Fallownose was murdered. However, during Fadingstar’s open forum, he heard drips and drabs about something that Stormstar had done, that cost the clan greatly. From here, he had to stomach the fact that RiverClan hadn’t been perfect, that even cats from their own beloved clan had been brutal and hurt others. Of course, this was tricky. It almost felt like they were being led by a liar - even though no one had lied, he just never knew the whole truth. Still, they gradually came around to Stormstar. She was kind, and they never saw her do anything wrong. Their faith was weakened, but they did believe in RiverClan. And, it’s worth saying that they retained faith in their clanmates and the ones they held close.
Leadership did change, though, and the reins were taken by Owlstar and Sunheart. Though Seapaw doesn’t know either of them very well, he has at least spoken to each of them before, and he knew they were both kind.Owlstar, he spoke to once as a kit, and her kindness stuck with him. Sunheart briefly instructed Seapaw’s group as they built the new camp, and was polite and nice the whole time.
Pinks and reds begin to seep into the sky above, a symbol of a new day on its way. "Morning, already?" They tilt their head, then turn back to you. "Looks like I'll be waking up soon. It was very nice talking to you, dream cat!" They offer another soft smile, before splashing a little bit of water your way. Not enough of a splash to disturb you, or get water in your face, just a gentle, friendly flick. "Maybe I'll see you again? that would be nice." The dream's fizzling out, you can tell. You're being written out of the story, and Seapaw will carry on, not knowing that they briefly shared a dream with a real life twoleg. But, they;ll certainley remember that dream cat,the one that made them want to keep talking and talking. They do wonder, if you'll ever appear again.
Re: RiverClan Medicine Cat Apprentice Applications!
i can try my best lol
So, I have Leafpaw, and Flickerpaw.
Leafpaw, despite wanting to be a warrior, has a very strong heart and would do anything to protect her friends. She, uh, is very 'excited' and would most likely not be bothered if she gets chosen to be a medicine cat. She would do her best to help out, but would probably still try to fight every now and then lol
Flickerpaw is a very stubborn and rash little man. He, although sewerslideal, would be fine with being a medicine cat. In fact, it would probably be beneficial for him.
My first choice would be to nominate Flickerpaw, and not Leafpaw.
I don't have a discord account of my own, but I can use either my fathers or I can make one :3
I am usually going to be on after school hours, which will be high school hours, but during summer I can be on really often. The easiest way to contact me would be either Scratch, WCO, Roblox, or something else of that nature atm. I can make a discord tho
So uh yeah
Not sure how Berry would feel about Leaf or Flicker, but feel free to reach out to me whenever :3 I believe Leaf would best fit the expectations, as she's my main oc, and I dont use flicker often. So most likely consider Leaf a bit more.
My access isn't often restricted, per say, but most of the reason im not on is cuz im on ponytown lol
WHEW THAT WAS A LOT BUT THERES STILL MORE
I really don't mind if im not a hr, i think it would be cool tho
If I do get chosen, I promise I'll put in a lot of my energy into working hard for everyone! Helping people is something I love to do, and i feel I would lock in
Anyways, thats all :3
I know that compared to the other applications, mine doesn't really stand out, but I sure do hope you consider me
RIVERCLAN MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE APPLICATION
Character: Rockpaw
User: @Ashy_boi
Discord: No sorry
BASIC INFO
Name: Rockpaw
Age: 6 moons
Gender: Tom (he/him)
Rank: Apprentice
Mentor (currently): None / Seeking mentorship from Berryshine
Created for this position?: No — Rockpaw is an existing character, but this application is a chance to explore a new role for him.
CHARACTER OVERVIEW
Rockpaw is a bright-eyed, confident young tom who wears his heart on his paw. He’s a friendly, approachable presence in RiverClan, and his high energy makes him well-liked by those around him. He’s always eager to help, and no task is too small or unimportant for him to put his full heart into. His enthusiasm can sometimes get ahead of his focus, but his adaptability and eagerness to learn make him a perfect candidate for the medicine cat’s den.
Growing up with a love for the natural world and a deep respect for the Clan’s traditions, Rockpaw’s curiosity about herbs and healing grew alongside his other warrior skills. Though he has always been more active and driven by action, the quiet, contemplative life of a medicine cat’s apprentice offers him a unique challenge. He recognizes that his eagerness to rush in may need to be tempered with patience and wisdom — skills he’s eager to hone under the guidance of a trusted mentor like Berryshine.
His confidence comes from a deep-seated belief that he can overcome any obstacle through determination and hard work. However, it’s not a blind ego; Rockpaw is incredibly aware of his limitations and guilt-prone when he feels he’s let others down. While he’s not a natural-born healer like some, he’s committed to learning every aspect of the role with humility and determination. He admires Berryshine’s calmness, seeing her as someone who possesses both the knowledge and the grace to handle difficult situations, something he hopes to cultivate in himself.
Rockpaw is the kind of cat who’s always looking to help out, whether that means running messages, lending a paw with gathering herbs, or even just being there to listen. He has a natural way with others, making friends wherever he goes. He’s confident in his abilities, but that confidence is tempered by a strong sense of accountability. If he makes a mistake, he takes it to heart and works hard to correct it. His emotional capacity runs deep — he’s understanding and non-judgmental, making him easy to talk to when Clanmates need someone to confide in.
However, his eagerness to jump into things sometimes causes him to move too quickly, a habit he’ll need to adjust to in a role as important and thoughtful as that of a medicine cat apprentice. The mix of humility and drive in his character gives him great potential to grow into a reliable and skilled healer.
RELATIONSHIP WITH BERRYSHINE (IC THOUGHTS)
Rockpaw’s respect for Berryshine is immense. Her calm demeanor and deep knowledge of the herbs speak to a kind of wisdom he aspires to. Though he’s usually the first to jump into action, Rockpaw understands the importance of patience in healing, and he’s eager to learn from someone who has mastered the art of helping others in a quiet, meaningful way.
He also senses that Berryshine is recovering from the loss of her previous co-medic, Cobwebstorm, and that brings out Rockpaw’s protective instincts. He wants to prove to her that she can count on him, that he’ll be there for her no matter what. He’s not sure if he can live up to the legacy of her former partner, but he’s determined to be steadfast in his loyalty and commitment. While he might not always get everything right, his willingness to learn, paired with his good manners and discipline, makes him a promising apprentice for someone as patient and nurturing as Berryshine.
WHY ROCKPAW?
Rockpaw is the type of cat who thrives on challenge. The medicine cat apprentice role presents an opportunity for him to grow not just in his healing knowledge, but in his emotional maturity and his ability to think before he acts. His strong sense of duty, eagerness to prove himself, and respect for the wisdom of others make him well-suited for a long-term, meaningful role in RiverClan’s medicine system.
Though he might be known for his exuberance and youthful enthusiasm, Rockpaw is more than just an excitable apprentice. He’s deeply thoughtful and motivated to do good for his Clan. The opportunity to train under Berryshine — someone who embodies the traits of wisdom, patience, and humility — would give him the structure he needs to refine his approach and transform his eagerness into something truly beneficial for RiverClan.
I’m confident that Rockpaw’s friendly and adaptable nature, combined with his strong work ethic and emotional depth, would allow him to forge a strong partnership with Berryshine. Together, they could help RiverClan heal, both physically and emotionally, and Rockpaw would do everything in his power to support her in her time of need.
FUTURE IDEAS (Optional)
Balancing Impulsiveness: Rockpaw will need to learn the importance of patience in healing, possibly leading to some tense but heartfelt moments with Berryshine as she guides him toward tempering his overenthusiastic nature.
Mentorship Arc: Over time, Rockpaw could become the one to offer emotional support to Berryshine, helping her navigate her lingering grief from Cobwebstorm’s departure. This could foster a bond built on mutual trust and healing.
Struggling with Guilt: Rockpaw’s tendency to feel guilty when things go wrong could be explored further — what happens when he makes a mistake in the medicine den, and how does he deal with the emotional fallout?
Thank you for considering Rockpaw for this position! I’m excited for the opportunity to work with both the community and Berryshine to bring this character’s story to life.

a shadowy figure appears at the edge of your vision. you turn your head, brilliant green eyes widening as you recognise the familiar face.
one that haunts dreams, a harbinger of nightmares and destruction.
he bears the scars of a life spent fighting for a chance. a simple chance.
fangs bared.
a loose canon. uncontrollable like firecrackers. loud, flashy.

held down.
held back from reaching the potential bestowed upon him by him and himself only. starclan played no part in bringing him where he is now.
its all him
━ colour blossoms ━
crimson flashes before your eyes. too familiar. too painful.
a choked gasp escapes you, condensation swirling around your face as soon as your breath his the air.
the wind howls. or is it the last, raspy breath of one of your clanmates? is it the sound of fangs sinking into golden fur and tearing or the echo of your elders failure? perhaps its the scream of a mistake you will never be able to forgive yourself for.
how can you be so sure this was ever meant to be? how can you celebrate victories built on others cats hopes and dreams, built from bones and blood.
‘youre wrong’, the wind whispers.
an imposter.
━ dancing in the breeze ━
the wolf in sheeps clothing, uncloaked in the face of bias.
perhaps the only red string tying his life together is betrayal and bias. how can you be loved and appreciated when your blood isnt like theirs? when it coats the ground like theirs, deep red and painful.
how can you push away those who wasted away for your sake when your honour is tainted. it reeks. metallic and foul. you know its not right. can you see it? or will you treat another cats suffering like a small cut? something to be coated in herbs, covered by cobwebs and forgotten?

you watched shadowy figures take a part of your friends body, you stood by and watched it happen.

the cat stalks over to you, shadow casting you in darkness. the air grows cold, biting and nipping at you like once ago, when you were all alone.
‘we arent all that different’ the harbinger of pain speaks, voice low.
you both started off alone. one with death sticking to their paws like tree sap before he could even fend for himself, the other taken in and treated like gold.
‘life isnt fair. not for cats like me’ he continues, staring you down. he looms over you, imposing, impossibly close. the air goes tense.
‘not for those pushed away by starclan themselves.'
'cats like me, we have to take care of justice on our own and you’ll be where i start’
hello there. if you havent noticed, this is very clearly a sarcastic application, frankensteined together out of a discarded application and the worms in my brain, to perhaps give my dear friend squid a little spook. i mean, its for rookfire of all people.
i had fun writing this, just wanted to make it clear what im doing here lol. alec out
