[p] Lightningpaw's Assessment

Her hind foot connected with Lightningpaw's gut, and Bumblestar heard the telltale wheeze that came with getting the breath knocked out of one's lungs. Lightningpaw's incessant swatting of her head was a decent distraction that worked - Bumblestar spat and tried to duck out of the way, more irritated than anything, only to be met with the feeling of her leg being swept out from under her.

Her side hit the ground as she fell sideways off of Lightningpaw. She was back to her feet quickly, but it was enough to give the apprentice time to stand again. Bumblestar wasn't exactly the merciful type, though, even in a low-stakes mock fight. Teeth bared, she ducked to the side and lunged, aiming to wrap her forepaws around Lightningpaw's midsection and drive her back to the ground to get her in a vulnerable position.

Bloodstar would have been a better fitting name than Bumble with how this was going! Once her leader was tripped she quickly bounce back to her feet and jumped back, yet her leader was showing teeth and going in to try and trip her again! She couldn't just keep jumping away like this. She needed to do something else.


Seeing her mentor come from her side Lightningpaw tried for something a bit risky, perhaps prone to failure. The moment Bumblestar got close enough she would try to bite down on the leader's scruff. Given scruffs were kinda meant for teeth she made sure it was firm but not piercing if connected. Then would try to get a paw on her leader's neck while she tumbled down... If Bumblestar didn't switch up what she was doing.

@dino. dunno if bumble would pivot if you let Lightningpaw bite the scruff so letting room for that to happen o7

Decent choice in tactics. It may have worked better if one of Bumblestar's favorite moves wasn't a direct counter. Teeth met her scruff, and she let herself be shoved down, before she rammed her head back in a way that the top of her skull would crack into Lightningpaw's bottom jaw if she made contact. If that gave her room to slip out of the apprentice's grasp, she'd swing around and aim a heavy subsequent blow with a forepaw to the side of her face in the hopes of knocking her sideways.

Lightningpaw made a hiss in pain when struck back and surprise. She didn't see a counterplay so didn't expect that. THANK THE STARS she learned this before a real battle as she was soon smacked in the face hard enough to make her thin body stumble back quite a bit, barely keeping herself up at all. "Sheesh they named you wrong Bumble... It should have been Bloodstar."

"Oh uh are we still fighting?" Lightningpaw reassumed a fighting position, then flicked her ears when she remember something. "Oh uh, is it ok I just said Bumble? That just slipped out.. Or was that disrespectful...?" She lowered her ears worried there was going to be some yelling or the fight to go on again. Whatever happened she was going to be ready for it.

That one always worked. As soon as she was away from Lightningpaw's grasp, Bumblestar whirled to meet whatever attack was coming her way next - only to be met with a hesitating apprentice and some blabbering about names.

She halted, eyes narrowed. She didn't care about the name, it was the spar she was concerned with. "That depends. You gonna back out of a real fight next time somebody clocks you in the jaw?"

"Psh, no.. What would I have done is.." Lightningpaw slyly moved her paw before slapping a rock towards Bumblestar. It did not matter if it hit her or not. "Like that rock I would have made you pay for this sore jaw... A defensive attack after stumbling would be best as I feel another cat would charge after that..." She then pawed her jaw with a paw and seemed to get lost in though. It ache dully but hell if she would stop a fight there. "I have to rely on the thought another cat might not back down after getting a good hit on them. A fight then would turn from getting a passing grade, to a conflict that may result in death even if both cats don't intend for it. I have to protect myself another others." Saying it aloud like that made her stomach sink, but she kept a brave look on her face. She was now going to have to be the defense for apprentices and... It was terrifying. No one said it was going to feel this way... But.. A moment flashed in her mind when someone else important to her protected her when her life was on the line. Did he feel fear then? If not, she had to hide away her own fear when she had to save a younger cats life.

Then a smile crept across her face. "If you ever want to spar again, I'll be here."

Well, at least she'd put some thought into it. Bumblestar gave the stone a blank look as it smacked into her shoulder and then fell to the grass. "Using your environment to your advantage is good. Just don't expect one rock to win a fight for you." It was better suited as a distraction, not payback.

"Good to hear you understand these things," she said. "You'll at least last long enough to help a Clanmate get out of trouble, even if you don't come out on top." A click of her teeth. “But if I ever see you hesitate like that in a REAL fight, I'll have you sittin’ back in the nursery faster than you can squeak out an apology. That's how you get yourself or your Clanmates killed.”

She paused, then inclined her head once. "Well, congratulations. Hope you've thought of a name for yourself, 'cause I'm just about out." Thickly veiled within the words was the slightest hint of a joke.
