Right. New apprentice, back to basics and all that. Well, not that back to basics. She hadn't given Jaggedpaw as much attention as she ought to have, and so he had only really gotten started on fighting and tour and whatnot. With the twolegs Deadmoon didn't particularly want to take Orchidpaw out on a full tour now. Not on their own, not at all, really. They could take a tour later, surely. It was much safer to stick close to camp and do a bit of hunting or battle training. And to do so in a bigger group, rather than just the two of them. They should be fine. It should be completely fine. But Deadmoon was also a paranoid little fool, so she had called Coldpaw and Windpaw to join her and her apprentice a bit outside camp. AWAY from Windy Hills.
Kiddos! We're going to give hunting a go, alright? She didn't really care whether they thought it was alright. That was what they were doing.
We're going to practice hunting crouches, then scent some things, and then I'll send you all off to see if you can catch something. She didn't really care if they could or not, didn't even expect it seeing as it was leafbare, but apprentices tended to get antsy if you didn't let them go give things a try. Deadmoon had, finally, begun to learn.
Crouch first. Do your best to copy mine. Wait. Wait. Coldpaw couldn't see to copy her. Damn. That was actually going to be a pretty massive problem, as Deadmoon had never taught a cat who couldn't see before. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. She didn't want to mess this up, especially not as the molly was Vinesmoke's apprentice. She couldn't make things harder for the tom in any way, not after he'd already confided his worries about mentorhood to her. Deadmoon had frozen in her crouch, but got her wits about her and started narrating.
Put your front paws out in front of you a bit, tuck your hind paws beneath haunches. This will give you a good spring when you have to pounce. If they got to that point, anyway.
Keep your tail lower than your haunches, but off of the ground, so it doesn't draw attention or rustle anything. Lower your back, generally stay low to the ground. I'll.....give your paws a nudge if they need it. Please tell her that was enough direction. Stars above, why had Deadmoon not thought of this beforehand! She should have talked to a cat who couldn't see, who was blind, who knew what Coldpaw would need to be told. Shooting a quick glance at her own apprentice and Windpaw as well, Deadmoon sniffed a breath in through her nose. She needed to get her act together.
