Mosstangle

Mosstangle was quick to get with Morningpaw right after the apprentice ceremony. With Dawnstar naming her as his mentor, she needed to make sure she hit all the bases.

"Morningpaw, are you ready for a territory tour?" The large tabby asked, green eyes alight with her own excitement. This would be her first apprentice. How exciting! She couldn't wait to tell Aldersnarl all about it! Anything she could do to chat with her busy brother excited her... but now was no time for that! She needed to pay attention to Morningpaw!

Morningpaw nodded. "Stars, yes. I was born ready." He meowed, bounding up to his mentor. He was finally an apprentice! He'd find his sister Hollowkit and talk with her later. For now, territory. Yes, right. He could do this.

Mosstangle

The large tabby grinned at the apprentice's excitement. She turned to the entrance and led the way out into Shadowclan territory. Another cold day in shadowclan's forest.

"Our territory is filled with tall trees. A dense canopy keeps it dark and cool. Prey and herbs can be found throughout our conifer forest," She told Morningpaw as she padded along. She moved at a pace that would be brisk for a new apprentice, making sure they would have the chance to see the whole territory before nightfall. "There's not much fog today, but as it warms up with newleaf you may see it get quite dense. We of Shadowclan work best in cover and shadow, it is one of our specialties where we can beat any other clan." She explained to Morningpaw.

Morningpaw kept pace easily, turning his head this way and that, sharp amber eyes scanning every inch of the territory. "Dense, tall trees, herbs and prey in Conifer Forest, fog in Newleaf, stealth attacks are our specialty, got it..." He murmured, flicking his dark tail. "I didn't realize our territory was so big."

Mosstangle

Mosstangle nodded. "This is just our general territory. We're coming up on our first landmark, now." She mewed as she lead.

The trees and foliage grew less dense as the pair entered the Dawning Woods. It was always a bit warmer in this evergreen forest, though not by much. Mosstangle trotted through the pine's, paws light on the bed of soft pine needles and dirt. "The Dawning Woods is a less dense part of our territory. It has less space to hide, but has an abundance of prey like squirrels, lizards, and birds, however," The warrior's eyes scanned their surroundings, her tail swaying softly behind her. "We are not the only predators here. Badgers, foxes, owls, hawks... you name it. They often frequent this part of our territory, so always be alert." She cautioned.

Then, satisfied that there were no other predators around, Mosstangle turned, continuing the brisk pace towards the next, distant landmark.

The mottled apprentice scrambled after his mentor, amber eyes flickering from side to side, watching. He eventually caught up with her, and padded by Mosstangle's side with his odd, skipping walk. "So Dawning Woods has more prey, but also more predators. It's less dense, but that means there are less places to hide," Morningpaw repeated, thinking. "Correct?"

Mosstangle

Mosstangle's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "Correct!" She purred. She liked him repeating back the information, it assured her that the younger cat was paying attention and was hopefully retaining it, as well.

As she led the way, fog began to leak in and the sky seemed to dark with it. "Stay close," Mosstangle said as she slowed her pace. The ground became damp and mossy beneath her paws. The sound of frogs and bubbling water grew closer and closer. "This is Darkwater mire," She told her apprentice. "It's a great place to gather moss and catch frogs, snakes, and birds alike," She said.

"But it can be dangerous. At night, owls come out here, as well. Even during the day, Darkwater Mire is a dense a slippery marsh where many a cat has slipped and hurt themselves or wound up trapped somewhere they couldn't get out on their own." Her green eyes met his amber. "So watch your step. We will come out here frequently so you can become familiar it." She told him, shaking off her paws as she began to lead away from the mire to their next landmark.

Morningpaw shot a disgusted look at the damp ground, and shook off the swampy muck clinging to his paws. "I look forward to every time we come back here," He said with zero enthusiasm. He padded next to her, his amber eyes glinting in the darkening light, watching Mosstangle. His brown and black fur helped him blend into the growing shadows, making him slightly harder to see, were it not for his bright eyes. Suddenly, he tripped and stumbled into a small hole/dip. Hissing, he yanked himself free and caught up to his mentor, now with a small scratch on his paw pad. Ignoring it, he continued to repeat like before. "Darkwater Mire," He meowed. "Great place for moss and predators, and a large tripping hazard, as experienced firstpaw. Snakes, birds, and frogs are the main animals here, along with owls, and we will be coming here a lot to get used to the area. Fantastic. Where next?"

Mosstangle

Mosstangle didn't show her internal amusement mixed with concern as Morningpaw slipped beside her. She quickly looked him over to assess him for any injuries as he caught up. Not seeing anything notably problematic, she continued the walk. She nodded along with his recounting of the information. The dark tabby couldn't help the twitch of her whiskers, lightly amused by his comments. "Good."

Skirting the edge of darkwater mire, Mosstangle flicks her tail to indicate the swamp in the distance. "That way is Saltmeadow Marsh, a swamp surrounded by marshland like that within the Darkwater mire," She said. "It marks our border with Riverclan. Be careful, as our relations with Riverclan... well, lets say it's not great. About as fragile as their warriors are."

Then she turned back into the territory, finally slipping away from the wet ground and air that she, too, detested. It was time to find her favorite spot, so with slipping hazards behind them, she picked the pace back up again. She smiled as the sun came out once again and the ground became more and more rocky. "This," She purred. "Is Evergreen grotto, probably my personal favorite place in Shadowclan territory." She said. "Not as rich in prey, especially under the shelter of the cave, but plenty of herbs grow here and it makes a great place to take shelter or relax."
