Darkpaw blinked, his gray fluffy ears flicking at Eveningpaw’s words. For a moment, he felt caught off guard, unsure how to respond. Nice? Peaceful? Those weren’t words he often associated with himself. He shifted his paws, the corners of his mouth twitching upward more-so than before. More than they typically did around others that weren’t BerryBat.

"Thanks…" he mumbled, his voice low but sincere. "I guess… it’s good if being around me feels peaceful. I just—" he paused, searching for the right words, "I try not to get in the way too much." He glanced at Eveningpaw, their warm energy filling the space between them. He was reserved, and they were so out there. It was nice. "You don’t talk too much." he stated quickly, his voice soft but firm. "I mean… I think it’s nice. You fill the silence. It’s—" He paused, almost embarrassed by his honesty. "It’s comforting." Less talking for him was always receiving…but something about the way that EveningPaw did it with such energy, instead of forced questions and statements.

Darkpaw's growing smile didn't go unnoticed by Eveningpaw. They weren't really one to pay attention to small details, but they found themselves paying much more attention to how Darkpaw acted. Mostly because they wanted to make sure he was comfortable when speaking with them, and catch any signs of discomfort. They returned a similarly soft smile, eyes shining with satisfaction. They hadn't messed up and made him uncomfortable! Joy! Joy!

"I think you're doing a pretty good job, then," Eveningpaw reassured the tom, giving the ground beside him a light tap with a paw. "I mean, I personally find it hard to believe that you out of all cats would be a bother to others! Well, except for really grumpy cats who hate everyone." Their voice slightly lowered at the last sentence, narrowing their eyes playfully.

They paused at Darkpaw's final statement, blinking in something akin to disbelief. Them? Their enthusiasm? Comforting? Those weren't words often used to describe their presence, but despite it they were very grateful. They let out a small laugh, licking their paw and running it over their ears.

"I'm glad you think so! I'm... Uh... Quite aware I fill the silence, but sometimes I fear I make it overflow. But it isn't like I can help myself! I love talking! You can't just force someone to stop doing what they love, can you?" Eveningpaw stopped before they began rambling again. In a much softer and bearable voice, they spoke again. "You're honest. I like that."
