Meeting dismissed - wonderful. He might as well make a start, whilst he had the two apprentices together. "Right, both of you," the tom began as he stood up, stretching his back out. "Let's get your territory tour over and done with. We'll be stopping everywhere but The Mourning Ruins, considering they're shut off. We'll see if we can fit some sparring in too, since you seem eager." He looked down at the two of them, trying to gauge their reactions to the proposition. It was clear that the pair were already clashing - a spar could either ease the tension, or heighten it - it seemed 50/50, to be honest. Hopefully, it would encourage them to acknowledge one another's strengths, and recognise that they're starting at the same level - but at the same time, throwing paws could simply add fuel to the fire. He knew he was taking that risk. But if they were going to hate each other no matter what outcome, what was the harm?
Newtbelly made his way to the exit, sulkily as usual, but avoiding patches of ice. The territory was still remarkably icey, though, in many places, the muddy ground had frozen quite bumpily, making it harder to slip than in camp. Since they wouldn't be visiting the ruins, he figured it would be useful to describe them as best he could whilst they travelled. "The ruins," he began, "have been abandoned for a long time. They were once a twoleg structure, which the clan used for cover. I hear a fire struck, and they were tragically burnt down. Nowadays, they make a great home for prey. And owls, for that matter," he growled, in irritation with the winged predators. "It's normally a pleasant area." He decided not to mention Owlthroat and his encounter with the fox - best not to scare them on their first day out - though, he wasn't sure if these apprentices were scareable. "The undergrowth is thick, and nature appears to be reclaiming the weird twoleg stuff. It leaves lots of hiding spaces for prey, and for those hunting prey." They arrived in the Dawning Woods as his sentence trailed off - an accidental case of good timing, really.

As the meeting came to an end, Talonpaw still had pride glowing from within herself. She was a apprentice, and she was going to be a dang good one! She looked up at her mentor, saying they were going to do a territory tour and then spar?! I mean, Talonpaw loved a good spar, but with that princess?! She grimaced at the thought.
She stalked her way along as she followed Newtbelly, claws sinking into the ice in camp before they reached the frozen mud outside. The cold chilled her paws, biting at her nose, but she wasn't going to complain. "How many owls we talkin? Shadowclan'll deal with it!" 'Shadowclan' mainly meant her dads and the high ranks in her eyes. Talonpaw was unaware of the true threat posed by the predators in the ruins... All she could think of was the prospect of prey! Talonpaw watched as her mentor began to slow at the vast woods ahead, stopping next to him and waiting for whatever else he was going to say.

Finally! Venompaw perked up immediately a as soon as the meeting ended, still bit irked by the way Talonpaw had spoken to her(What a grump!) but that couldn't dim her determination to be the best. She'd put that little rat to shame with her awesomeness, Newtbelly was sure to be impressed! Besides she was already pretty skilled at rough housing!
Shaking out her braided tabby pelt, the apprentice bounding after her mentor, doing her best to keep ahead of her fellow trainee. Claws skidded along the frozen ground yet Venompaw still kept a relatively fast pace. She wanted to see all ShadowClan's territory had to offer! All things ugly or beautiful she didn't care.
The toygress slid to a halt beside the older tom as he introduced them to their first landmark. Green amber hues widened as she took in the foreign landscape. This place was...weird. Yep. Made sense as Newtbelly explained the connection to twolegs. Ew. Oh and the fire.
Owls? Her head canted curiously at the mention of the predators. Those were those strange birds that could carry a cat away or so she'd heard, right? Whatever they were, Talonpaw seemed to jump at the chance to act all tough and that wouldn't do...even if she basically agreed she couldn't just give in to this rude furball.
"Don't matter how many owls there are, Mammy can destroy them all by the end of the moon!" She huffed proudly, flashing a smirk at Talonpaw as she continued after their mentor. Venom bet her Mammy was way, way cooler than Talonpaw's(even if she didn't actually know anything about her family or anyone else's for that matter), no one was better! But enough about her, what was this looming forest ahead of them?
"A decent few. Far too many for an apprentice to take on, so don't either of you think about it, okay?" He raised an eyebrow, looking to both of them, in hopes of a nod, or any confirmation that they weren't getting any mousebrianed ideas. Both apprentices were confident in ShadowClan - and particularly Dawnstar's - capability of removing the creatures. And why shouldn't they? Shadowclan had a wonderful track record for swiftly dealing with any problems at paw. It's a good job these apprentices recognised that - if they thought otherwise, they'd end up receiving a bat round the ears. "I certainly don't have any doubt in the clan - or Dawnstar's capability to remove the threat. I'm sure they'll be gone in due time." He hadn't heard much talk of the patrol recently - so it was still up in air whether or not he'd become owl-bait. Despite his worries, he was desperate for the chance to prove himself. If he could just get in on that ambush, and make it out unscathed... The tom drew himself away from his thoughts, reminding himself of the task at paw.
"Anyway - these are the Dawning Woods. You'll probably end up here quite often." He walked on forward, through the shaded trees. "It provides a great habitat for prey - mice, birds, squirrels, lizards, even frogs - though you'll find more of them around the mire."

✦ "Yea, my dads and your Mammy are gonna crush em!" Finally, something she agreed with. She knew this was one of Dawnstar's kits, they had made themselves very known the past few moons, but it felt as if Venompaw was just looking for a reason to rub it in that her Mammy was the leader. Surely, with her two enforcer dads, Owlthroat and Tuftedtusk, she could be just as good! She didn't need no leader mom to be the best! "Yea, that'd just be stupid to go after owls on our own." She raised her head in a 'matter-of-fact' kind of way. She knew better than to seek that glory, it would just lead to her untimely, and very stupid, death. She nodded with pride as Newtbelly mentioned Shadowclan's future success. Yes, that problem would be gone soon!
She focused back in as Newtbelly explained the vast forest. The Dawning Woods. Oooo, hunting, she would love to hunt a bit. Maybe even with Pondlily, that would be fun. She had taught Talonpaw her first hunter's crouch, so it would be so fun to go hunting with her!

Venompaw was a bit taken aback with Talonpaw's sudden agreement but she didn't let it show, expression masked by a chesire smile as always. Maybe this loser wasn't so bad afterall; at least she wasn't a coward! "Yeah! They'll be grinded to feathers by the time they're done with them!!" Her talons dug into the ground enthusiastically.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever!" The braided tabby huffed at Newtbelly's warning. Like her fellow apprentice said, it would be stupid to go after the owls themselves...but as the few who had encountered Venompaw knew she was lacking in common sense and far too supplied with recklessness. But any thoughts of going after the predatory birds were stored for later for now.
The paw straightened proudly as her mentor confirmed her Mammy's capability, satisfied enough with his answer that she wouldn't have to defend her mother's honour on her own accord. For now she just peered around the shady forest curiously as Newtbelly provided information on Dawning woods. Oooh, the perfect place to catch a feast for Mammy and her siblings!! They'd be sooo amazed at her awesomeness! Venompaw found herself beaming at the thought of their impressed and awed faces.

Well at leats he had nothing to worry about. "I'm sure they will." He replied, fighting the innate urge to roll his eyes at the level of enthusiasm, but he held back. It was hard not to find a little jealousy, in the two of them having such strong parents to look up to, but he wouldn't get caught on a thought like that. "Let's move on."
He padded along, leading them through the forest till the ground became softer underpaw, and the air gained that signature barky scent. "The Darkwater Mire," he began. "Great for frogs, you might even find some lizards and whatnot if you're lucky. And the usual squirrels and birds are drawn to the trees, of course." A rare enthusiasm entered his tone as he mentioned frogs. It was impossible to fight, the things were yummy. "Should go without saying to smart cats like you, but avoid the mire itself. Watch your paws as you walk - you don't want to get stuck in that. Plus, you'll smell." The final sentence was meant to be funny, but his monotone voice didn't often pull off jokes very well. Perhaps dry humour would appeal to one of the 'paws, who knows.

Her nose wrinkled at the mire. So many smells flooded her nose, especially the swampy stink! "eeyuck...." She hissed quietly. She knew of one cat who may like this, and either way she was already stinky.
She didn't seem to catch wind of the joking tone, taking it as more of a fact than anything. Yea, you'll smell, obviously...

Their next destination was mega gross!! Venompaw's nose wrinkled at the stench as Newtbelly gave his usual facts. "Bleh!!" she exclaimed, sticking out her tongue in disgust. Picking up a paw as to avoid it becoming fully caked in mud. Her mentor's attempt at humour completely flew over her head. She just wanted to get out of this icky place!

Neither of them seemed to like the Mire. Pity, considering how perfect it was for frog hunting. Ah well, he wouldn't force them to come here often, then. Neither of them laughed - sigh. One day, his jokes wouldn't fall flat. "Alright, let's move. I take it you don't like it here." He beckoned them with his tail, and continued to walk.
Hopefully, the Evergreen Grotto would be more up their alley. He led them through the territory, under the think conifers, till they reached the clearing. Faint sunlight shone down, though it wasn't much, considering the season's grey sky. "Here we are, the Evergreen Grotto. Good for herbs - and herbs attract prey." He explained. He'd like it if he could show them some herbs, but he'd never been on a herb patrol here. Normally it was around the pine forests, even the mourning ruins. He wished he could just tell what was what, but his herbal knowledge was absolutely dire, always had been. "As you go on herb patrols, you'll be introduced to more and more herbs. I know a few, but not many, it's not my realm of expertise." He glanced at the apprentices - neither of them stuck him as herby types, but then again, Silentpaw never did, an dlook at him now.
[also guys !! new plan since both of the 'paws have got some extra training done - we'll wrap this up with the borders, then I can have Newt take them to the Mourning ruins for a spar/ advanced combat, if that sounds good to you guys!!]
