Cricket felt her fur bristle. Her blood felt like it was running hot, like it was boiling. "What did he look like?" She did her best not to growl the words so she didn't scare the poor kit, but she couldn't completely suppress her rage.
* To scared to remember he just shook his head and pressed into Cricket. *
" T-to s-scared... D-didn't pay attention... "

Cricket forced her growl to die in her throat. Cardinal didn’t get a good look at the cat, of course not. He was too busy running for his life. There were no leads. She opened her mouth to taste the air, but all she got was the putrid stench of dog. Perhaps it would be different on the ground? The brown she-cat leaned to peer over the side, checking for any signs that the dog still lingered. Once satisfied that it was gone, Cricket gently picked up Cardinal by his scruff and began to back down the tree. Claws extended to catch herself and guide her way down.
It felt like it took forever, but soon enough she felt her hind paws touch the ground. Cricket released the tree’s trunk from her forepaws and plopped them on the ground, setting Cardinal down too. She immediately began to sniff the nearby undergrowth, trying to see if she could find trace of a cat’s scent underneath the dog but it was impossible so far. “Stay close.” She instructed, casting a stern glance at Cardinal. She didn’t want him wandering off and getting hurt…again.
* He started to protest. *
" My leg still hurts from the rat Mama... I-i... I just want to rest... "
* He barely managed to flex his back left leg. *
" I-i just want to go back to camp... "
