The tiny white molly’s ears perked up as Dustbunny called for her, Flamekit, and Driftingkit. A digging lesson! She was eager, though she felt a flicker of nervousness settle deep within her belly. While the others could easily scramble out to follow Dustbunny, she hesitated, blinking at the blurry shapes around her. The nursery was safe and familiar, but stepping beyond it, especially without someone close, always took an extra moment of courage. Taking a deep breath, she slowly padded toward Dustbunny’s voice, stretching her paws carefully over the uneven ground. Each step felt like a cautious test, feeling for dips and obstacles as she struggled to follow the other kits. She kept her head low, her sensitive nose picking up the earthy scent Dustbunny had left behind, using it like a guiding thread through the blurred shapes around her. After a few hesitant steps, she picked up on the steady movement of Driftingkit ahead of her and tried her best to follow close, stumbling slightly when a stray root caught her paw. Finally, she reached the base of Galewood, where Dustbunny had been waiting for all three kits to arrive. She took her place beside her denmates, breathing a small sigh of relief as she sat down, finally settling in to listen to Dustbunny’s instructions once they started. Though her sight might be dim, her other senses were sharp, and she was determined to learn whatever she could about digging—just like her clan-mates.

In her quest to find individuality and importance within WindClan, Flamekit had turned towards tunneling. Tunneling was a skill that only WindClan had. It made them stand out from the other Clans, and even then, most of RiverClan were moor-runners. It took a special kind of grit and talent to master tunneling, from what Flamekit understood. That meant that she had to perfect it. Because she knew she was better than the majority of these other kits who spent their days playing pretend and throwing mossballs around. She almost felt a prick of jealously when she heard that other kits were being called to learn alongside her. Sure, lessons like this were usually done in groups, but she was supposed to be better than them! That meant it was supposed to be only her who wanted to learn tunneling! Be rational, she reminded herself. You'll come off as rude to Miss Dustbunny if you wear such a sour expression. So, despite her annoyance, she managed to put on an expression of neutrality as she padded over to where miss Dustbunny and the other two kits were waiting. They looked way younger than she was. That was a positive! That meant she'd have the advantage of age.
Hollypaw • He / Him • Windclan apprentice • 6+ moons A mostly white tom with ginger patches throughout his pelt and bright green eyes.
Hollypaw nodded, actually enjoying the idea of digging. He listened carefully and watched Rabbitpaw's demonstration closely. He glanced down at his paws, unsheathing, then resheathing his claws before rising to his paws.
The large apprentice got to work digging his first hole. He sunk a paw into the softer topsoil, scooping up dirt and placing it on a neat-ish pile he could for it being his first. He repeated this action until he could no longer just use his paw.
As Rabbitpaw had told them, he unsheathed his claws and continued as much as he could until his paws began to hurt. He stepped back, looking down at his very first 'tunnel'. It wasn't very deep at all, but it was still something he felt pride over.
Hollypaw puffed his chest out as he turned to face Rabbitpaw. The pile was definitely too messy and if it'd continued could probably pose a safety hazard, but otherwise, he felt pretty confident.
Dark grey ears twitched as he heard his name being called. He padded slowly after Dustbunny like he was approaching some unknown scary creature, keeping his head and body low in case he needed to make a quick escape. But his eyes glittering with curiosity. He had heard about tunnelers, he had even seen them sometimes! But he didn't know what they did. Sure, it sounded a little creepy, he much preferred being out under the sky, plus being dirty all the time must be awful. But that didn't stop the one moon old kit from wanting to know. They must be having fun to want to be underground every day. He sat politely in front of Dustbunny, a few inches farther than what would be normal, staring up at her silently with wide eyes as he waited for the other kits to gather.

Dustbunny smiled as the three tiny cats trotted towards her and sat down when they finally arrived. The she-cat surveyed each one, Flamekit appeared to the eldest of the three and although her expression started sour it smoothed out a moment later. Magnoliakit had a lovely white pelt and although white cats weren't your typical tunnelers, she noticed the kit lack of vision. Tunneling might be perfect for her, vision was not a sense that was relied on when in the tunnels. Finally, Driftingkit appeared to be neverous, but his eyes glowed with curiosity. He seemed to like her when she was young, well actually Dustbunny hadn't grown out of her nervousness.
"I am assuming you three chose to learn how to dig cause you were a little interested in tunneling. I am not sure how much you have on tunneling, but Tunnelers are cats who dig up tunnelers and memorize the paths underground. We can make secret passages underground or build a whole extra camp underneath your paws, but we're usually relied mostly on during leafbare for hunting when the prey all goes underground. We still do our regular warrior duties, patrolling, hunting, and protecting our clan, but we have the extra knowledge normal warriors don't which sets us apart from them." She explained with a smile.
"We rely heavily on our sense of touch and sound, instead of our eyes. If you don't like the dark or tight spaces then tunneling might not be for you. But when you guys become older you can decide if you want to train as a warrior or train to become a tunneler with me or Crowtooth." Dustbunny thumped her large hind paw on the ground near the roots.
"Today we're going to work on digging. It's a primary skill for being a tunneler. If you can't dig you can't tunnel. We're going to dig a hole by the tree roots, not a whole tunnel. I'll show you the digging technique tunnelers use, so keep watch. You can not just scrap the dirt and throw it everywhere. For harder patches of dirt, you're going to want to use your claws to scratch and loosen it up." Dustbunny's tail waved over her head as she demonstrated what she was saying on the soil in front of her. Dragging her claws across the ground, churning up the earth, until it was in loose clumps.
"From there you'll want to thrust your paw down and scoop out the dirt and then set it in a pile beside you. It should be a neat and compact pile of soil so make sure that you pat down every new pawful of dirt you grab. We reuse that dirt when we tunnel. For this instance, I'll need the dirt to bury your holes up again or Twilightstar will get upset." Dustbunny plopped her pawful of dirt down and in front of her to show the kits how to make the pile.
"That's all you're doing today. What I want you guys to do is try to dig up the dirt in front of you, let me know if you have trouble starting. You can stop digging once you find a stone or one of the tree roots. Don't mind the worms or the bugs you find while digging, just set them aside nicely they mean you no harm. I don't mind if you want to play with any bugs you dig up but be kind to the worms. We have to put them back in the dirt."

Another day, another herbal lesson. And after the fire, one that seemed especially important. Keeping the few herbs she tended to teach kits hidden inside one of the many nests Snowybreeze had littered the kit corrals with - seriously, that tom's need to fuss over kits made her wonder if perhaps he wouldn't be better suited as a permanent queen in the nursery every now and again - she turned towards the entrance, cheeky grin lighting up across her maw. She had only two students today. Jasminekit and Skykit. Not a rarity. It seemed kits met up for these lessons of hers in pairs. Lessons she barely had time with now that she was training her own apprentice on the same matters, but it was always nice to meet with the little ones for a breather.
"Jasminekit! Skykit! Come over here, loves. Got something to bore you both with for a bit," Lightningstorm called as she poked her head out of the entrance before falling back to the nest and sitting down, awaiting the two she-kits.

Skykit stumbled over to Lightningstorm. She looked back and called out to Jasminekit. "Hurry up Jasmine! You're sooo slow!" She whined. Skykit looked at Lightningstorm. "I'm sosososo ready!" @Alchemist Kitsune @Luna16

"I-I'm coming, Skykit!" Jasminekit called back, tumbling out behind her littermate. She sat down next to her sister, wanting to protest at being called slow but deciding better of it. She looked up at Lightningstorm with eager eyes and nodded. "I'm ready, Ms. Lightningstorm!" She was also certain it would not be a bore.

Flamekit listened intently to what Miss Dustbunny said. Extra knowledge that set tunnelers apart, huh? That just confirmed all her beliefs and eagerness to try and become a tunneler apprentice. Tunnelers had extra knowledge, which made them smarter and better than regular warriors. It was a childish way of looking at it, but Flamekit craved that attention that came with being special. Secret passages? And a whole extra camp? And finding prey in Leaf-bare? She felt her heart full with excitement at the thought of doing something so special in the Clan. She didn't mind too much if it meant that she'd have to get used to the feeling of dirt in her fur or the darkness of the tunnels.
Her blue eyes stayed glued to Dustbunny's paws, trying to engrave the sight of the warrior's paws as she expertly began digging. Flamekit took note of the precision and neatness that came with her digging. It was more than just playing in the dirt like kits did, but rather a unique and useful skill to WindClan. The piles that Miss Dustbunny made were neat and compacted, nothing like how her brother used to make when he dug around for no reason. Flamekit always had to clean up after his messes. She also took note of the fact that Miss Dustbunny remarked that there could be bugs in the dirt... yucky. Flamekit was not a fan of bugs. But she totally wasn't scared of them. And it certainly wouldn't get in the way of her goal.
When Dustbunny gave the go ahead Flamekit shifted forward, closer to the tree roots. She found some soft soil to start with, just to test it out. One cautious paw dug into the ground and messily scooped out some dirt out next to her. Then came another slow scoop that ended up flinging dirt everywhere. Her cheeks burned a bit from how messy her work was, even if it was her first time trying to dig like this. She cleaned the mess into a neat pile, then began to dig again. This time she tried thrusting her paws and digging quicker to try to make up for her mistake. As she got used to the feeling of scraping the dirt up with her paw her work eventually got neater. She just needed practice.
It seemed like everything was going smoothly, and she thought she was getting the hang of tunnelling, that's until she paw touched something slimy and absolutely disgusting. She helped when she came into contact with it, jumping back a little in an embarrassing way. Her sleek fur fluffed up all of a sudden, and now her cheeks really burned. The despicable, disgusting, horrendous, slimy, revolting, nauseating, repuslive creature was a little grub. Some kind of beetle larvae most likely. But Flamekit didn't know that. Nor did she care. In her eyes it was just a gross bug!

With her roleplayer dragging her feet on this roleplay like a loser and finally forcing herself to type up the reply promised so Strawberrykit could finally have proper attention, Strawberrykit is seen eyeing Rabbitpaw intently. He was quite an exuberant one, that was for sure. Or at least, from what she was seeing. Or maybe he was just set to his task.
Whatever the case, Strawberrykit was more interested - against her initial will - in what he was doing. Her white paw shifted on the ground, digging faintly, razor-sharp claws scraping at the dirt, shifting it away from the now-tiny gap in the ground. Her own 'tunnel' grew at a steadily slow pace. It was much smaller than Hollypaw's in the end, anyway.
"Okay." Was all she said in the end. No feedback, no arguments. She didn't know where the other kit had gone. "What now?"

Another day, another kit lesson. This time, one he wasn't particularly excited about. He wasn't sure why they had assigned Whistlekit to him again. It was clear from how the kit spoke to him that she loathed him. Thought him beneath her. And he didn't blame her. He truly was a worthless excuse of a warrior. Surely there would be someone better to deal with this lesson today?
Turned out that was a negative. Either there was no one better - doubtful - or everyone else was busy with leaf-fall coming so close to an end. That part was actually a bit more believable. WindClan was working hard of late, and maybe... just maybe... he was the only warrior available for the task. A real shame for these poor kits who deserved better than a tom who would probably showcase just how pathetic he was before he was forced to leave the lesson if only to not disappoint the little ones further... but what else could he do? With so many kits in the nursery, not even the queens had time for these lessons anymore! StarClan help him...
"U-um... Skykit. Magnoliakit. Flamekit. Sedgekit. ...Whistle... Whistlekit... P-Please. If you could. Just. Kindly. Come over. For your. Lesson. Today. Today we. Learn. Hunting. Basics. If you. So like," he called, talking more than he intended as nerves got the better of him, large paws shuffling nervously in the dirt beneath.
