Hawkbite jumped into the fray. His claws outstretched, slamming down on rat after rat. Swatting away potential bites from snakes and rodents as he made his way through the crowd, watching the numbers dwindle little by little. Rodents would grow close, a little too close, as they tried to bite him, but not successfully doing so. Not today! Hawkbite didn't feel like falling victim to them.
This is for Yellowtwist. This is for our clanmates.
We will not let you win! You're JUST PREY!
The words were repeated in his mind, driving him forward with his clanmates. Everyone was taking some bites it seemed. A snake had gotten his paw once, but nothing serious. He moved with trained speed. His smaller frame able to outmaneuver the simple leaps and attempted strikes with ease.
Then he heard it. A singular scream of an owl.
Hawkbite swatted away a rat, leaping for a nearby tree and hauling himself up with complete silence. His gaze shifted to the treetops, searching for the source... and then he saw it. A massive bird came crashing down into the midst of a rat pile, taking off with two rats in its grasp. The creatures were screaming, giving away the position of the owl as it tried to make its way back through the forest. It seems it had come for an easy meal and nothing else. He wasn't sure they could've dealt with another fight at this moment.
He had a different idea.
Gaze shifting down from the branch he stood on. The two nearest warriors there would due. "NEWTBELLY! SLEEPYSUNRISE! QUICKLY, FOLLOW ME!" Hawkbite instructed. Sleepysunrise should know better than to disobey. Whether Newtbelly heard him or not wouldn't stop the mission at hand. Hawkbite leapt from the tree and began bounding towards the direction of the owl. He could only just see it's wings flap in the distance as it made its escape. "Quickly!"
The Commander would hope Dawnstar or Mistlewhisker would see them running off before his small patrol would disappear. We're not dead... we'll be back... he mentally promised as his legs moved quickly through the undergrowth. "Keep quiet, stay hidden, we're following that owl!" he huffed through breaths, slinking into the shadows as he led them along. If they stayed close enough, they'd be able to follow him in the shadows as they tracked the owl down.
[this will be a quick 1-2 post per person patrol where they will find the location of the owl nest]
@Estelle - Sleepysunrise | @sleepyyjax - Newtbelly | @Undertaker - Dawnstar mention for you to see
Ugh. These things were persistent, weren't they?! He grasped the second rat in his jaws, bones cracking as they had all those days before. Though this time, the pests were trying to hunt them. He wouldn't thank it for its life this time, or ever again for that matter. The squirrels, the mice and the frogs understood what they were. These rats thought they could break the order. Pathetic. He threw the body to the ground. At least ShadowClan would eat well.
About to grab another, he was distracted by his own name - called by Hawkbite? Why'd he been chosen? With Sleepysunrise? Had Owlthroat given him a referral or something? Had he watched him train Silentpaw? Or was he just the nearest cat? There was no time to waste mulling that over. This was urgent, he could tell.
Keep quiet and stay hidden. He could do that easily. And they were following an Owl? Now this was exciting. He nodded at the two of them, following along in the shadows.
~ BRIARSPLASH ~
stocky, large, & fluffy dilute gray tortie she-cat with goldish-green eyes; just a scratch
[ shadowclan enforcer | she-cat | 28 moons | abrasive, standoffish, loyal ]
~
Stars above... why was everything tilting...? Well, one look down at her pelt would show that Briarsplash was rather covered in blood. Maybe drenched? Hard to tell with her layers of fur. Which blood was hers or the snakes' or the rats' really depended on the shades of red, making an ironic different kind of 'splash' pattern on her dilute tortie pelt. It was rather infuriating, and while the she-cat had a knack for pushing off pain as long as possible, she also didn't want the embarrassment of blacking out right on the battlefield. That would sure be a fun sight to see, right?
Stubbornly Briarsplash took down another rat or two before she could've sworn her vision darkened completely for a moment — and then, with a frustrated grunt, she looked over at Owlthroat. "Gotta... get this bleeding to stop... I'll be no good on the ground," she muttered dejectedly, her voice terse with annoyance. The warrior at her side was faithfully standing there, and despite her rather aloof self, she felt a stab of gratitude to find Clan loyalty like this. Like he would've caught her if she'd fallen, even if they both tended to be more solitary warriors. That, all things considered, felt good. Even if she could barely think about that while she was staggering over her own paws.
Vaguely, Briarsplash had seen Rookfire's location earlier; it didn't take too long for the stocky she-cat to lumber over, batting away a vicious creature or two on the way — it was all a blur, really — before she nearly fell to a stop right in front of the medicine cat apprentice. The main culprit of her bloodsoaked pelt, besides her kills, were the stubborn snake bites lodged into her skin through her thick fur; one was on her front left paw, now curled in the air to take the weight off of it. One or two were on her flank, and another one on one of her legs. Whatever those snakes had in them, the wounds were bleeding fast, and she blinked stubbornly to clear those irritating black spots from her vision.
"J-Just... patch me up quick, will ya? Stupid bleeding... I gotta get back in—" The fierce she-cat huffed before sinking to the ground, ears flattened in embarrassment. Okay, yeah, she needed to sit down. Just for a moment. Even though her claws were already itching to get back into the fight, not to be some pathetic weakling who had to drop out...
[ @Daragca - owlthroat interaction | @alec - rookie! main focus is blood loss from the large snake bites, no disease from the rats or anything ^^ previous post here in case it helps injury idea! ]

A rat squealed as it was snatched up by Ratflame's jaws, being shaken before tossed at a tree. Suddenly sharp pain, she whirled around in time to see a snake latching itself onto her thigh, bloody starclan she'd be lying if she said it didn't hurt worse than the snakebite on her front leg. She spun around in a few circles, trying to snap her jaws around the body. Honestly she was more embarrassed by the fact it was taking her this long to get a single snake off of her. With a final twist she grabbed at the snake, ripping it off her thigh and stomping on it even after it had gone limp, overkill yes, but she could care less.
She gave herself a once-over, checking to see what damage she had. As she looked at her thigh she began wondering whether ripping that snake off had been a good idea or not. No matter, she shook herself again and made her way over towards Rookfire.
(Ratflame isn't in critical conditions so she can wait before she is checked, she had a mild snake bite on her front left leg, a rat bite on her right shoulder and back left leg, and a pretty nasty snake bite on her right thigh.)

Once she was free of the snakes, the massive feline shook out her pelt, splashing liquid crimson along the grass and bark. She glanced at the pair who helped her out and wrinkled her nose before grunting a quick "Thanks," to the apprentices. It irked her to need aid, but she wasn't petty enough to withhold gratitude when it was given.
Her gaze swept through the woods seeing less and less living rats and snakes and more and more bodies. It seemed like they were about done here and none too soon. The she-cat wasn't feeling her greatest and she could only imagine how the rest of her cats were faring.
"Go see if anyone else needs help, Bristlethorn seems to have a snake stuck on her, and then see if you can find any cobwebs" Dawnstar ordered the Pondpaw and Silentpaw while tearing out what remained snake that Silentpaw had halved. She paid no mind to the pain nor the blood that welled up like a small stream and slid down her leg to pool in the grass. She saw quite a few of her clanmates darting off most likely to see Rookfire.
Dawnstar sank a huge claw into the tail of a fleeing rat and listened to its bones break underneath her other paw. "ShadowClan, finish it up and kill them all." The battle-scarred she-cat raises her voice while flinging the rat corpse to the side. "If you're not dying or dead, search for cobwebs to place on the snake bites. I don't need a trail of blood leading back to our camp." By now everyone should have noticed how the snake bites seemed to be bleeding worse than the rats. Dawnstar hadn't the faintest clue why it was happening, but they'd need to stop the blood and clean up a little before heading back to camp.
Her ears prick and her head snaps towards Hawkbite as he calls away her granddaughter and Newtbelly. Dawnstar hadn't even spotted let alone heard the owl flying nearby, she had been a bit too preoccupied with her snake collar. She was utterly confused as to where the commander was going with two of her better fighters. The leader hissed softly and crushed another half-dead snake beneath her hind paw as she watched the cats disappear out of sight.
She doubted Hawkbite would merely steal the two warriors for no reason. She'd have to wait and see when he came back. As she strolled through the battlefield spotting tufts of fur and frothes of blood painting the greenery, Dawnstar figured the predators would most likely be swarming this neck of the woods for a few days after the fight. Adrenaline kept the large molly moving despite the small rivets of blood that drizzled out of puncture wounds.
Her brown pelt was matted with dry and wet blood, her muzzle and claws soaked in a dark red shade. The leader continued ripping through the stragglers that weren't dead or fleeing as she made her rounds around the area.

Silentpaw gave a nod to Dawnstar before rushing over to Bristlethorn. He instantly grabbed onto the snake on the she-cat's stomach and pulled harshly. He was concerned it might have hurt Bristlethorn in the process, but... The snake should be taken care of first. Though it took a bit of wrestling to get the snake off, the apprentice managed and yanked it away from the warrior. He grasped the scaly creature's long body with his claws and grabbed its neck with his teeth, crushing it and severing its head from its body. He quickly turned back to Bristlethorn once he'd made sure the snake was dead, giving her a quick concerned glance. It... Did not look quite pretty. But he was glad she wasn't dead. Yet.

ⵌ ➜ #GUTSPAW ˗ˏˋ ✮ it . teeth . bite . // seventeen moons ˎˊ˗
small spiky-furred black tabby with striking icy blue eyes. has a huge fluffy tail & a few scars in the shapes of bite-marks - notch in left ear.
❝HIGH ACHIEVER, DON'T YOU SEE? BABY, NOTHING COMES FOR FREE !!❞
Eventually, everything started to seem like a blur of action. Its ankles were burning as time passed, blood sticking uncomfortably to Gutspaw' coat. It wasn't like any of these creatures had any self-preservation skills to run away. Some were smart enough to flee once they were injured enough, others joined the piling corpses.
While the tabby launched itself on a larger, plump rat with bright yellow teeth. Claws sunk into its sides, and it twisted its neck to nibble at whatever was close with a sharp squeal. Again, a sharp nip to the nape of its neck - hold until it passed. Gutspaw hadn't realized the sensation of scales wrapping around its right hindleg until sharp teeth was sinking into the meat of its flesh. A wave of nausea washed over it, a low snarl building in its throat as Gutspaw blindly twisted in an uncomfortable position to snap at it.
The snake unsunk its teeth, and as Gutspaw darted forward to wrap its jaws around its throat that the vermin shot forward and grabbed onto one of its ears. A sharp yelp escaped Gutspaw, and it used its free claws to grab onto the creature. Teeth dragged it down its skin, over and over until the creature fell limp.
It was difficult to get it uncoiled, but eventually Gutspaw was free and Dawnstar's voice rung out throughout the woods. It took a sharp intake of air, shaking from the adrenaline and throbbing pain. Ugh.
With a quick glance around, teeth didn't think anyone needed help (Silentpaw seemed to be helping Bristlethorn) and it started to look for cobwebs; abliet out of it. Aa, on bones were the snake marks just non-stop bleeding. It was .. hungry.. so, so very hungry.

Soon enough, the cacophony of battle faded. Mistlewhisker slit the throat of a lone rat trying to make its escape, the body falling unceremoniously to the ground. Taking a deep breath, the Deputy scanned the wooded clearing and the cats within. It seemed they hadn't lost anyone--good. Her one-eyed gaze traveled to Dawnstar, who was bleeding heavily but otherwise seemed intact. Rookfire was already dealing with cats who had suffered more intense injuries, while the rest were taking care of the straggling rats and snakes.
But there were three pelts not among the battle. Mistlewhisker's ear flicked, brows twitching over her eyes as she tried to find Hawkbite. Sleepysunrise and Newtbelly weren't accounted for, either. The three of them were strong fighters, so Mistlewhisker very much doubted all three of them had been taken out. It was more likely that they had left on a different mission. Whatever it was, her duty was to the cats here.
She swore, though, that if Hawkbite had died so soon after vowing her his loyalty, she would rip him from the stars and skin him herself.
As the last of the vermin were exterminated, Mistlewhisker heard the call for cobwebs. Ah, so Dawnstar had noticed that the snake bites didn't stop bleeding like the rat bites did. Cats were quick to follow her orders, Mistlewhisker included. She plastered some of the webs onto the bites that lined her legs and shoulders, hissing as she strained the rat bite on her back leg. She would definitely have to see Rookfire for that... but it could wait. She could still walk, so as far as Mistlewhisker was concerned, she was fine.
As she was gathering more cobwebs, The Deputy came across a severed snake head. She canted her head, eyeing it contemplatively. It would have to decompose first, as having a decaying head in your den was a terrible idea, but one day the skull would make an excellent token of appreciation. She buried it off to the side, under a tall, distinct oak so she wouldn't forget it. Then she moved on to the rest of the group, scanning the warriors and apprentices weary from battle.
She spotted Gutspaw, who seemed to be looking for cobwebs. Bite seemed woozy. Mistlewhisker dug around a bush until she found some more cobwebs, wrapping them around her tail and making her way to the dark-furred apprentice. "Here." She murmured, motioning for bite to stand still while she applied the cobwebs to a few of the snake bites if teeth let her. She could feel her own bites trickling blood down her flank, her strength flagging as adrenaline wore off. She wanted nothing more than to go home and sleep. "Well done today." Things had been tense since she had demoted teeth over patrols, but she wanted bite to know that she didn't think any less of bite because of it. She just... couldn't say it.

It was mostly over now, the battlefield strewn with various bloodied creatures. He’d gave Briarsplash a nod as she retreated for medical aid. There was nothing shameful in that, the creatures they had fought were a vicious bunch.
He clawed a clump of fur from his teeth before swatting another bedraggled rat to one side. Cobwebs, Dawnstar’s orders. Owlthroat made his way to the thickets collecting what he could, he’d be thankful to be home.

With a nod to Dawnstar, Pondpaw hared off toward Bristlethorn at Silentpaw´s side and sank her claws into the snake that had a hold of the warrior. ´´Go for its head, like you did with the snake Dawnstar had trouble with,´´ She instructed the dilute calico apprentice. ´´I can rip it in half again.´´
Pondpaw´s claws tore through the snake´s scales, and she heard it hiss in pain. River-blue hues glittering with triumph, the former RiverClanner yowled in satisfaction and wrestled the snake to the ground whenever she had ripped it in two, even shredding it for good measure.

As the apprentice yanked the snake away, it stung. But it fixed her snake problem, didn’t it? Her chest-underbelly area, where it had previously been latched on, now stung and she looked down to see the dripping of blood, making a small puddle beneath her. Her fur around the area was stained red and it was simply…messy. She however gave the apprentices a grateful nod. “Thanks.” she stated, looking around after. Just as soon as it started, it seemed to be over. The warrior huffed, her injury slowly causing more and more pain.
