Sootstorm gave her pelt a quick wash before emerging from the warriors' den. She slunk into the apprentices' den and gave Lionpaw's brown tabby pelt a gentle prod in the side. ''Up and at 'em, Lionpaw. It's training time.''

His ears pinned back as he was prodded and he grumbled something but lifted his head. Yet again he was disappointed in his mentor selection…or he was sour about FishPaw, the cat he’d now be sharing a den with. He would have gone over to mama if she hadn’t called for that Fish…stupid. Dumb. “Yeah..I’m up.”

Sootstorm didn't like the tone that her apprentice had with her, but it was dawn. He was bound to be cranky; but the warrior couldn't not address Lionpaw on his attitude and risk him having it for the rest of the day.

Her green hues turned firm as she took a step back to let the brown tabby tom up. ''Now, now, Lionpaw. Don't get feisty with me, alright?'' Sootstorm mewed, her voice stern yet gentle. ''Now, we'll be starting with hunting, as I take it you've already had a tour of the territory. Let's go, now, Lionpaw. I'd like to be back before sunfall.''

The warrior chastising simply put him in a worse mood, his nose wrinkled a bit but he didn’t say anything…just…yeah. This wasn’t great, he wanted Hawk…guess life just chooses favorites and the rest are scum, huh? Discarded…cast to the side. And the scum just doesn’t get anything to go their way. Their parents are gone before their even a day old, the one of few cats they care for cats hurt bad…

Anyways—hunting? Ugh…he has to get a start on fighting though! “What about battle?” he quickly asked, getting up and following by the warrior.

Sootstorm said nothing for a few heartbeats as she led Lionpaw out the apprentices' den, and then out of the camp and towards the training hollow, only speaking whenever they had reached it. ''Battle is just as important, yes,'' The mottled gray-and-white warrior mewed, her thick tail swaying behind her. ''But we need food to ensure our survival. We eat more than we fight, Lionpaw.''

Stepping back, Sootstorm's eyes narrowed. ''Show me your hunting crouch and we'll go from there,'' The ShadowClanner instructed, deciding to say nothing else to answer Lionpaw's question. She'd rather get started on his training.

Ugh…whatever. When it came to survival though, when fighting was needed (which was always a surprise), hunting wouldn’t do any cat any good. Plenty of cats could hunt, they could always catch more prey. Fighting though…it came down to it. Like mama- NightShiver…losing half her face. Cause of a stupid kit and fox.

Best crouch…okay. The tom went into the same sort of crouch he had for stealth, lowering his body and keeping his tail hovered above the ground.

Sootstorm stepped forward and examined Lionpaw's crouch through narrowed green hues. The warrior took a few pawsteps backward whenever she was done. ''Tuck your hind paws in closer to your belly,'' The gray-and-white ShadowClanner instructed, her tail brushing the dusty forest floor of the training hollow beneath her. ''It will add more power to your spring, whether you're hunting or fighting.''

The she-cat gathered up a small pile of moss and placed it in the middle of the clearing before padding back to the edge of the hollow. ''After you do so, I want you to leap and see if you can land on that pile of moss I just put in the center of the hollow.''

Ah- critiquing time. He did as she instructed and kindly convinced himself that he messed up on purpose to test her warrior abilities…yep, that was it! Then what it would do, of course. He should know this. He didn’t know why or how he should, but he felt like he had to be a genius right off the bat, much to his disappointment he wasn’t…and unbeknownst to him, no cat was, unless they were some chosen-one-smartass. Then again, who would they be chosen by? By some stupid fantasy crap, that’s what. Ever since he was a kit his beliefs in StarClan had dwindled, now they were forced down to next to nothing.

Leaping, get your head in the game Tige- LionPaw! He let his paws slowly and quietly carry him forwards as he had in stealth. It was efficient and hard to detect. Then, leap! Leap? Yeah—leap. He bounced up and his one paw landed in front of the moss while the other adjusted into it.

Sootstorm frowned whenever Lionpaw bounced up to the moss instead of pouncing at it like she had wanted him to. ''No, Lionpaw,'' She sighed, padding over to the place that the tom had been before. ''Like this.''

The ShadowClanner crouched, hind paws tucked close to her belly. She then sprang, her leap taking her further than it would have if her paws hadn't been tucked in so closely. The warrior's white forepaw hit the moss, and Sootstorm was careful not to bowl into Lionpaw.

Getting up and taking a step back, the tail of the mottled gray-and-white warrior swished behind her. ''Now, I want you to try again, Lionpaw. I want you to try again and do it the way I just showed you.'' She murmured, eyes narrowing.
