Re: Training Wrenpaw
The gray tabby she-cat could feel her own muscles tensing as Wrenpaw bolted out towards the rabbit. The apprentice did well at first, keeping her paws going and running down her prey at an impressive speed. It wasn’t until it came time to kill the rabbit that things went wrong. Instead of biting the creature’s neck, she allowed it to slip out of her grasp and dart into a burrow. Lilacdawn sighed. She had worried this might happen, that the adrenaline might make the apprentice forget what to do in the heat of it all. But other than that part, Wrenpaw had done extremely well. Padding over to Wrenpaw, she gave a smile.
“That was good for your first try,” she meowed. “The first time I tried to chase a rabbit, my paws were shaking so bad it heard me before I even got near it! I think next time you’ll do even better. You just have to remember to bite its neck. For now though, let’s sit here a moment so you can catch your breath. The nerves and excitement from a first hunt tends to be a bit exhausting!”

Re: Training Wrenpaw
-Wrenpaw-
Struggling to sit up, she made a series of grunts. Lifting her leg up, she licked the blood off of the scratch on her upper arm. It was embarrassing, she was so close, but she just had to let it go. Hoping Lilcacdawn wouldn't think less of her she said nothing as her mentor moved towards her. Her mentor sat down and her words made Wrenpaw feel less like a total failure. Being her self critical self the she-cat meowed, "Sorry, it' my fault." Looking down towards the ground she caught her breath, stretching her back, legs, and head.
The cat had woken up a bit, and her eyes were opened wider. Hopeful to catch at least one thing she mumbled, "Can we go again? Or is it too late, it's totally okay if it's too late, I just want to make sure, it's okay it not." Realizing she may have gone a bit overboard, she shook her head and mewed, "Sorry."

Re: Training Wrenpaw
The gray tabby she-cat noted the scratch on Wrenpaw’s upper foreleg, but it didn’t seem too bad. She was glad that there were no serious injuries so far, since how could she possibly forgive herself if her apprentice got severely hurt on the first hunting session? Her ears pricked when the apprentice spoke, and her eyes softened. “There’s no fault here, Wrenpaw,” she mewed. “When you’re first learning, things can be difficult to remember, especially in the moment. That’s why we train; so that the more you do it, the easier it gets.”
Then Wrenpaw started asking if she could try again. Lilacdawn had to suppress a laugh. At first she had thought that Wrenpaw would want to give up for the day, but she was clearly wrong. Taking a glance at the sky to see how much daylight they had left, she nodded. “We can go again, absolutely. Let’s walk a little away from here so the smell of this rabbit won’t get in the way of us scenting a new one.”
Leading the way further into the moorlands, she finally paused to drink in the air. She scented a hare this time; they tended to be larger than rabbits and had longer ears, but catching them was much the same. Even their scent was similar. “Can you smell that?” she asked. “Let’s see if we can find this hare.”

Re: Training Wrenpaw
-Wrenpaw-
Getting back on her feet she nodded at Lilacdawn's kind words. Maybe her mentor wouldn't be so bad. She seemed as though she was invested in her training, and her well being. Even with these thoughts Wrenpaw remained skeptical of the Windclan warriors true intentions. Was she doing this for personal gain? Or was she hoping to train the young of the clan? The answer was not clear to the apprentice, but she wanted to find out.
Tilting her nose to the air she smelled a hint of rabbit. "Yes, I can smell it." she meowed, searching around for the animal. It could be her first kill.

Re: Training Wrenpaw
The warrior was blissfully unaware of her apprentice’s thoughts, which was for the best. Even if she told dear Wrenpaw that she wanted nothing more than to see her grow into a great warrior, it was unlikely that it would be believed until she showed it through her actions.
She nodded, glad Wrenpaw was able to pick up on the scent. Lilacdawn took a moment to determine which way the wind was coming from and then pointed with her tail, “It’s that way.” Padding along the long grass and tufts of heather, they soon came upon the hare. Crouching down low, she whispered, “Alright, there it is. If you need me to go over how to catch one again, let me know. Otherwise, once you get your feet in position you’re good to spring.”

-Wrenpaw-
Dropping to the ground, she spotted the plump brown hare blissfully grazing on the grass, unaware of the danger lurking. It was large, and so were it's claws. Her eyes darted around looking for any chance of the animal's escape. "I don't see any holes," she whispered.
Her claws slid out, gripping the dirt, ready to run after the animal. She inched forward, very quietly, trying to see the rabbit more closely. Surveying the area, she decided it would be best to attack it head on, instead of the alternative of stealth. "May I go?" she meowed eagarly

Re: Training Wrenpaw
Glancing around, Lilacdawn realized that Wrenpaw was right: there weren’t any holes nearby. That seemed odd to her, though she tried to remind herself that hares were more likely to run longer distances than rabbits to escape their predators.
With a nod, she meowed, “You may go,” and watched eagerly to see how Wrenpaw did on this one. Though this was their first hunt together, she saw a lot of promise in the apprentice. If she kept it up, she’d be bringing down rabbits and hares left and right in no time at all.

Re: Training Wrenpaw
-Wrenpaw-
She took a deep breath, trying to focus. It was difficult, it seemed as though she couldn't ever tune anything out. She heard everything, the birds, the blowing wind. She shook her head, pinning her ears back, trying to hear less. Inching closer, the hare remained oblivious. She decided to move forward another foot. The hare lifted it's head, searching for the noise that Wrenpaw had made. She had stepped on a stick. Sighing in frustration she began to run. The hare's eyes widened as the light brown she-cat lunged forward. She ran swiftly and silently. The creature turned to sprint. As the animal picked up speed so did the apprentice. She was a mouse tail length away when she lurched forward her claws outstretched. Both her and the hare crashed to the ground with a loud thud. She had the animal in her claws, it was struggling. She quickly chomped down on it's neck, and the hare stopped moving. It was dead. She smiled. "Thank you, Starclan, thank you hare," she meowed.

Re: Training Wrenpaw
Watching silently, she sent a prayer to StarClan to give her apprentice the swiftness and clarity she needed to catch this hare. All around them the world was still moving along—birds chirping, the sound of other cats way in the distance, the sweep of the wind on the moorlands—but at this moment the most important thing was this little spot where the two she-cats crouched and the hare hopped around nibbling at whatever it could find in the grass. When Wrenpaw moved forward, a crack sounded beneath her feet, and Lilacdawn’s ear twitched toward it. She held her breath, thinking that this would give the hare too much of a head start, but to her surprise Wrenpaw was swift and nimble as she charged toward the hare. She began trotting after them and could see it when Wrenpaw leaped and dug her claws into the creature, its squeal cut off abruptly as the apprentice’s teeth met the hare’s neck. She had done brilliantly. Racing the last little bit over to Wrenpaw and the hare, she gave a huge smile and said, “Well done! After all that you deserve a nice rest and some food back at camp.”

The she-cat purred and nodded, happy with her kill, she snatched it up and began to trot back to camp. Her mouth full, she meowed, "Fank you!" She proudly stood, waiting for Lilacdawn to follow and tell her what came next.
