She felt bad for…the hell around camp right now. She wasn’t sure why she felt guilt prick her as she didn’t do anything wrong. She didn’t control the cycle of life and death. Honestly, FireflyPaw believed that once the cure was over, everything was okay. She didn’t think of the death that came with it…at least it wasn’t her siblings? But other cats lost loved ones, and that hurt like hell. Was her relief the stem of her guilt? Oh gee who knows. But she needed a distraction. Something to tire her beyond thinking of it…she didn’t want to be a bother, but truly one cat came to mind other than dada and Aunty Bumble. Aunty Vi, Bumbles mate! But she was probably hurting too…maybe FireflyPaw could cheer her up? … Once she found VioletFreckle she hesitantly padded up, dipping her head kindly. “Miss VioletFreckle?…Are you…available to train me?” she offered a reassuring, gentle smile.

It seemed like all Vi did lately was mope. And she was sick of it. So when an apprentice approached her – Fireflypaw, she was pretty sure (she really had to get better at learning apprentice names) – her ears pricked up and she nodded immediately. "Of course, anytime." She gave a curt nod. "Whatcha need, kid? Hunting? A little fighting? Maybe I can toss in a fishing lesson for ya." Yeah, teaching the kids to fish was always nice. A bit odd, given she had been in ThunderClan for seasons now. But nice.

Her yellow eyes brightened when Violetfreckle agreed so quickly. Relief flooded her chest, and her hesitant smile turned into a genuine one. VioletFreckle seemed oddly…willing and not sad despite recent events. "Fishing sounds fun! And maybe a little hunting too, if there's time? I’ve already got the basics though…so not doing it is okay." she chirped, her tail flicking with excitement. The idea of learning from Violetfreckle felt nice, a cat she was confident in—one that was reliable to learn from—but she also wanted to impress her. "I wanna get really good at all of it, you know? Like…super fast." Of course, she didn’t want to seem too ego-filled, so she kept out the quicker-than-her-siblings part.

Well, she could do that. "Sounds good," was all Violetfreckle said as she led the way out of camp. "Can’t say fishing’s an easy skill to learn real fast, but you and I sure can try." Especially now in the cold weather. It was fine though, she led the way to Cattail Pond. "Tell me what you know about land hunting. We’ll start from there."

FireflyPaw trotted after VioletFreckle, her tail flicking behind her in an excited rhythm. She knew she couldn’t really speed-run learning how to fish or anything—not when prey was slippery and smart and water was involved—but still. There was no harm in trying.

At the older she-cat’s question, Fireflypaw blinked, straightening her posture like she was being quizzed. “Okay! So... I know the crouch!” she mewed, ears flicking up. “And how to keep your weight on your haunches, and like, move really slow so your steps don’t make sound. I practiced that part a lot!” (Even if she did trip once and snap a stick and wanted to evaporate on the spot. She refused to think of that ever, ever again.)

She kneaded her paws a little as she added, “I kinda just copy whatever pose my mentor shows me, ‘cause that’s way easier than trying to picture it all from words. But! I know to keep your tail off the ground, and to keep low so prey doesn’t see your belly.” FireflyPaw looked up at VioletFreckle, eyes shining. There was no hiding how eager she was. It was not just to do well, but to prove she was already halfway there.
