Personality
Overview:
Most of Duskleaf’s early life is pretty unknown, even to himself. His father, Reedclaw, was a young and ambitious RiverClan warrior but a little bit disloyal, although he was very good at hiding things he didn’t want other cats to know. His mother, Mintwhisper, was a young warrior from ThunderClan who was a kind and caring cat however she could also be quite cheeky at the same time. Reedclaw already had a mate in RiverClan, Leafstream, but after meeting Mintwhisper at a gathering, began seeing the ThunderClan warrior behind Leafstream’s back. However, hiding the whole affair became somewhat difficult once Mintwhisper had kits. Duskkit and Snakekit were born shortly after, and now there was no way to hide it. Reedclaw could be a very convincing cat, and he managed to talk his now ex mate into saying Duskkit was hers, meanwhile Mintwhisper would take Snakekit. Leafstream only did this for Duskkit, not for Reedclaw, she was well and truly done with him.
Duskkit grew up without ever knowing that he had a sister in ThunderClan or who his real mother was. As far as he knew, Leafstream was his mother. Reedclaw, for all his faults, deeply cared for both of his kits and tried to be there for both of them, even if one was in another clan. He would secretly meet with Mintwhisper at the border every so often, and she would bring Snakekit, however Reedclaw chose to never tell Duskkit as he wanted him to feel fully at home in RiverClan. He taught Duskkit kindness and respect, as well as loyalty quite ironically. Duskkit was always very close to both Reedclaw and Leafstream.
Eventually Duskkit became an apprentice at six moons, his mentor was Falconfire, a friend of Leafstream’s. She was quite strict but fair, and Duskpaw got along quite well with her largely because he didn’t cause trouble and tried his hardest. Falconfire wasn’t always liked by her apprentices, but she made sure they became capable warriors. Duskpaw cared very much about his appearance, he was always very meticulous about cleaning and absolutely hated whenever leaves got into his fur. Unfortunately for him, he seemed to be a magnet for leaves as they were pretty much always on his fur, much to his annoyance. It was Falconfire who told him to stop worrying so much about how he looked, and that the life of a warrior would mean keeping his appearance perfect wasn’t going to work anyway.
By the time Duskpaw had finished his training, Leafstream had become ill after her wounds from a rogue attack became infected. She died just days before Duskpaw became a warrior. At his warrior ceremony, he was given the name Duskleaf, partly due to his leafy appearance and partly in honour of Leafstream. He remained friends with Falconfire after becoming a warrior, and at his first gathering as a warrior, he met a ThunderClan warrior called Snakefang; she was a brown tabby with the same green eyes as him. Reedclaw and Duskleaf often went to gatherings together; Duskleaf assumed this was because Reedclaw didn’t really have many options of who to go with, not that he was there to see his daughter.
Duskleaf was given his first apprentice, Mousepaw, when he was 17 moons. Not long after, Reedclaw suddenly disappeared. Worried for his father, Duskleaf went to Fadingstar to tell the leader about his father’s disappearance. Not long after, Reedclaw was found dead by the ThunderClan border having been murdered whilst going to see Mintwhisper and Snakefang. Snakefang revealed the truth to him at the next gathering that she was his sister, although Duskleaf didn’t believe her.
Not long after, Duskleaf became a Lionheart along with Bearsnout and Pigeonpelt. Only a few days after that, the other three clans attacked RiverClan. During the battle, Duskleaf was attacked by several cats at once and lost his sense of smell due to damage to his nose. His apprentice Mousepaw was killed during the attack, and he swore that one day, he’d get revenge on the cat responsible for killing his apprentice. Duskleaf helped with the evacuation into the mountains and oversaw the burial of RiverClan’s dead from the battle.
Duskleaf was appointed Head Lionheart by Fadingstar whilst in the mountains, and was given two new apprentices: Beaverpaw and Riftpaw. During Fadingstar’s illness and Dusklion’s brief disappearance, Duskleaf temporarily led RiverClan and organised patrols to reclaim the territory after their return from the mountains. After following Redmire to the WindClan border, he accidentally revealed the location of RiverClan’s temporary camp whilst ordering her to return. Fadingstar decided to hold a trial, however several cats criticised this as unfair leading to Fadingstar deciding to demote Duskleaf himself.
After being demoted, Duskleaf largely avoided most cats and kept to himself. The only exceptions really were his two apprentices and his friend Brokenstream. During the meeting in which he was demoted, some cats had called for his tongue to be removed. Fearing being in the warriors den with these cats, Duskleaf instead found a tree near the entrance to camp which he decided to claim as his own.
A few gatherings after his demotion, Duskleaf met with his sister again, though this time she’d brought an older silver tabby with her; Mintwhisper. His real mother was a lot like Snakefang, just as he was a lot like Reedclaw. He had loved Leafstream like a mother, but decided he’d give his real mother a chance now that he’d actually met her, as he understood the reason her and Reedclaw had kept his true heritage a secret.
Duskleaf decided to come down from his tree one day and approached one of his clanmates, Irisdream, hoping to get to know her better and maybe make a new friend. Over time, they spent more time together and Duskleaf slowly became less reclusive. It took him a while to realise that Irisdream was more than just a friend, but he still won’t admit his true feelings: that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
At the age of 27 moons, Duskleaf was promoted to Lionheart for a second time alongside Irisdream and Rowanmane. Days later, he executed Frostdawn for threatening a kit, attempting to kill his brother in the medicine den, and stealing a potentially vital herb.
Traits: Calm, peaceful, friendly, organised, considerate
Psychiatric Complications:
Phobias:
He used to have quite a bad fear of getting dirty, it doesn’t bother him as much now thanks to the leafs constantly being attracted to his fur, but he still prefers to not get his paws dirty, although if he really needs to he’ll do it.
Duskleaf doesn’t fear death on its own, but death without a lasting memory does scare him, the idea of being forgotten and leaving no impact is what he fears the most.
He also fears any cat who called for his tongue to be removed at the meeting where he was demoted, like he won’t go anywhere near them.
Sociability: Half and half, he doesn’t mind being with other cats but likes a bit of time to himself too.
Outlook: Realistic
Responsibility: Quite responsible
Cleanliness: Aside from the leafs in his fur which he’s had to learn to live with, he always tries to be as clean as possible.
Generosity: He’s quite generous
Manners: Duskleaf tries to be polite all the time
Bravery: Reasonably brave
More Logical or More Emotional?: Most of the time logical, however in an angry state, emotion takes over.
Favorite Season: Greenleaf
Favorite Food(s): Salmon, because he doesn’t get to eat it that often
Favorite Sound: Water crashing off of rocks, it’s an incredibly calming sound to Duskleaf and he likes to spend time listening to it whenever he’s not busy.
Greatest Hope: To go down in history, to be remembered.
Greatest Strength: Intelligence
Greatest Weakness: Inability to control himself during a rage
Worst Nightmare: The 3v1 invasion of RiverClan
Deepest Darkest Secret: He's actually half ThunderClan, his father Reedclaw had an affair with a ThunderClan she-cat. He also has a sister in ThunderClan, Snakefang.
Most Treasured Memory: Being given two apprentices and becoming Head Lionheart
Quirk(s):
Something that’s definitely worth mentioning is how he got his suffix, -leaf. Duskleaf somehow manages to attract leafs no matter what, there’ll always be at least one stuck to him somehow. He’s like a magnet for them, and can’t figure out why they keep getting stuck to his fur. It just seems like wherever he goes, leafs seem to get stuck to his fur. It’s almost like a superpower that does absolutely nothing useful. Initially this was quite a problem because he used to be quite vain about his appearance, but he’s learned to live with his fur being covered in leafs, and it taught him an important lesson about judging by appearance.
He is an expert in dontopedalogy, which means putting his foot in his mouth (metaphorically of course).
