vinepaw could not call herself riverclan without being able to swim, and the thought of not being riverclan was... unpleasant, to say the least.

vinepaw approached a warrior- fallenspirit. "sorry to bother you. are you able to teach me to swim?" she asked politely, attempting to make it clear that if necessary, the apprentice could wait. "if you are too busy, i can just find another warrior."

Fallenspirit was just enjoying his day. A rarity for the tom. His icy gaze fixed on the sky. The tom had managed to learn how to dilute his frustrations at the world, and to not take them out on cats who didn't know. He still didn't tolerate stupidity. That would NOT change.

The tom's icy gaze shifted to the apprentice approaching him, and when the apprentice mentioned swimming training, the tom nearly said no. The last time he trained any cat to swim, he and Spiderpaw had nearly drowned. While that wasn't directly his fault, he would have to be more insistant on what he said.

"Of course I can," he mewed coolly. What kind of warrior would he be if he said no. "But, you will listen to everything I saw, and you will do as I say. No more, no less, got it?" the tom asked firmly.

vinepaw noticed fallenspirit had taken just a little longer to respond. she did not mind. perhaps he had stumbled over his words.

she was unaware of the incident with spiderpaw- had she been aware she would have avoided fallenspirit, not to be rude, but to be cautious. unsurprisingly, vinepaw preferred living to warriorhood without any near-death experiences. again, though, she was unaware.

finally, fallenspirit accepted. she had lifted her paw to turn around when the warrior continued, followed by her reverting to where she had been seconds before. the question was strange to her. had she a reputation of not listening well? she did not think herself better than any other riverclan apprentices, nor worse. regardless, the answer should be clear. "yes." she nodded.

Fallenspirit nodded. "Good," he mewed. "Follow me," he mewed firmly, flicking his tail. The tom walked out of the camp, headed towards Lionsbeach. Memories raced through his head of the last time he was here, but he shook his head. Surely that was just an accident. They would stay closer to shore. He wouldn't risk the undertow catching another apprentice, especially if this one dove as well.

"Welcome to Lionsbeach," the tom mewed. "This is where you will learn to swim.". The tom stepped into the water, gliding in deeper. This was like second nature to him. Peaceful in a way. He got a few fox lengths out, before turning to the apprentice on the shore. "Start slowly," he yelled. "The first few fox-lengths, your paws will touch the ground. Use that to get used to the water," he mewed.

vinepaw padded through the territory. before they had reached lionsbeach, she recognized the path right before the two cats arrived. remembered the first time she had been to lionsbeach- although, it was not notable, as it had been quite recent. on her territory tour, to be exact.

she set foot on the rough sand for the second time in her life. she liked it here, but she hadn't time to relax. as she had been instructed, she dipped her paw into the water. it was cold. she would live. vinepaw traveled deeper into the water quickly, ignoring the temperature. she knew when she left, her long fur would betray her and cling to her uncomfortably. vinepaw could deal with that later, she supposed.

Fallenspirit watched the apprentice closely, ensuring she didn't go any farther without his instruction. "Alright, now step another fox-length forward. You'll feel the ground drop below you, but not too deep. Your head will still be above water, but I want your paws to be paddling. You need to learn to tread water, before you can swim properly," he mewed.
