Hawkfur trotted into camp, slightly out of breath, his feathery fur standing up all over the place from running so much. His paws were soaked with melted frost, and his claws were caked in dirt. But his eyes were brighter than they had been in a while, and he looked mighty pleased with himself. Hawkfur gently left his mouse and robin at the prey pile, then moved to Crowtooth. "Burnetpaw didn't show," the Fury murmured, some of his luster fading. "I haven't seen her around at all lately in fact." He was quite worried about the apprentice, but it was hardly the first apprentice he had to go missing. Locustpaw, Rosemarypaw, Snowpaw... Each one gone without warning. It was a common occurance in the clans, as unfortunate as it was. "Windy Hills was clear though, mate." Giving his brother a smile, Hawkfur half wheezed half coughed, then cleared his throat. "Mighta pushed myself a bit too hard. Don't tell Lightningstorm, aye?" His teasing tone indicated that there really wouldn't be any need to talk to her, since he'd be fine after drinking some water without a doubt. After being dismissed, he headed to the warrior's den to warm up a bit.

Sixfoot padded back into camp with Gourdsun following behind, dropping her bird onto the pile while Gourdsun dealt with her two squirrels. "Good hunting Gourdsun! You rest up, I'll be sure to tell Crowtooth all about it!" The molly mewed, letting her body relax as she returned to her usual gait, which involved tripping over her paws every now and then.

Once she made it over to the deputy she casually nodded her head up in greeting. "Hey Crow! Otterfur didn't quite catch up to us, must've returned back to camp. But, Gourdsun and I caught 3 pieces of prey! She found and caught a squirrel, and let me try for the another, but they're real wily. I chased and injured it, but she made sure it didn't get away. Gourdsun caught that one too! -Oh, also a bird, I was able to get that one though." She mewed, happy to have a good patrol, even if they didn't catch that much. "They're all a bit thin, as you'd expect for now, but better than nothing!"

Cottonpaw made his way back with Whiterabbit, clutching the shrew delicately in his jaws. Approaching Crowtooth, he attempted a sheepish smile which looked strange with a mouthful of prey.

”T.thanks f.for coming Whiterabbit”, He gave his patrolmate a friendly nudge. They’d just about managed to do it between them. He would admit, despite hating the killing. It did feel good feeding the clan.

Whiterabbit shows her face soon enough, ambling in with that bird dangling by a wing. She'd almost neglected to show back up entirely, and might not have if she'd been with another warrior—but it felt too rotten to send an apprentice back to report in on his own even for her, and that shame had been enough to kick her back into gear. The porcupine does not need to be stared at all day long when there are duties to be done. She steps right in alongside Cottonpaw, meeting his nudge with an upbeat trill.

"Sky Glade giveth! Whew. Cottonpaw really showed me up out there, I think he must've made a kill ages before I got around to it." A sharp grin is aimed sideways at the pale youth. "You're training with Leechscar, right, kiddo? Next time I see him I'm gonna talk you up huge, trust." This comes partly from a place of genuine well-meaning and partly from the fact that Cottonpaw seems like such a polite, if not timid li'l dude, and Whiterabbit would get a kick out of embarrassing him via loud and obnoxious praise.

"Oh, And! And. Crowtooth, wouuuuld...you happen to know.......what pricklypines usually eat?" She doesn't have any reason to assume that he does except that he's Deputyguy and Deputyguys surely know all kinds of stuff about all kinds of things. And anyway, it's an idle, nothing-sorta question, just—kind of the type of thing any inquiring mind might like to know. What's a porcupine eat...is there enough of it out in the territory...and other idle curiosities!

Bummer on a lack of prey and Crowtooth was sure his expression showed it but you couldnt expect much out of winter. It was just like that, hard on everyone, though the deputy did wish that this patrol round would have far more success. And that if the patrols didnt find prey theyd at least find bedding. The camp was getting too cold, too fast.


He didnt hold it against Scorpiansight however and forced a grin, giving a "A quiet riverclan is a good riverclan aint it. Thanks an' go git some rest yall, Im sure yer chilled."

As she waited…and waited longer…her condition simply, got worse. Where the hell was this apprentice? The younger left her standing and exhausting. She was still decently weak and standing in the cold sucked. The more frigid air she sucked in, the more she started coughing as it burned her lungs. “Nghhh…” she groaned impatiently, her tail swaying right now. Her paws-pads were sore and…could she even make it to the border and back without exhausting? She wasn’t one to admit her weakness though. Should she? For her well-being, probably. Her yellow gaze quickly darted around, landing on the deputy whom originally helped her over to the medicine cats…who then took her to their den where she had remained for a few days as she healed. She padded up to him, doing her best to seem…’strong’ (aka stable). Her paws hurt under her weight but…don’t wince…don’t be weak. “CrowTooth? Hey—sorry to bother but…” cough cough “I don’t know if I’m able to…go on my patrol. I haven’t exactly reached” more damned coughing, DuckFeather wanted to cringe inwards at this point “full recovery yet. With the apprentice takin’ so long n’ all I’m wearin’ down out here.” her expression was genuine and…hesitant.

Well this was..... Really concerning and upsetting. Duckfeather was probably brewing something and sitting in this chill waiting for Snappaw had made it worse fast. Snappaw who was just seemingly missing, great.


Inching back in fear of getting whatever she had as the tom doubted this could be lingering sick Crowtooth nodded, dismissing her and ordering "Medicine cats den. Now, go, rest. Ill find someone ta make up fer the border." He seriously didnt want Duckfeather to get horribly sick so better to nip whatever this was in the bud, she was one of the more reliable cats.

Ashpaw did especially good, He caught a mouse, a rabbit, a thrush and a magpie by himself!" She said proudly.

With patrol mates hopefully not far in tow, Rabbitfoot approached Crowtooth. "Windpaw and Whitefall gathered some moss. I managed to catch this bird," He said after setting the fresh-kill down. "Didn't seem to be much else out right now. The cold weather is starting to take it's toll." The bengal said with a disappointed shrug. "But the border was secured."

Whitefall took up the rear again, waiting for Rabbitfoot and Windpaw to speak before offering a nod of acknowledgement. She didn't see the point of words in that given moment, considering that Rabbitfoot explained all that needed to be said. She would rather prioritize the youth than warriors that are in full capability to gather new moss for themselves. She should go out and gather moss for the elders den as well.

Oh thank the stars someone had collected bedding, they could start to pad the dens more. Maybe Crowtooth could even stop the drafts the queens had been complaining about too, it'd be a huge relief to not have to worry about the kits at least. Nodding at the group the tom flicked a tail, indicating for the moss to be placed by him. He'd shuttle it off where it needed to go later, knowing a certain someone had plans.
"Nice work yall, good ta know shadowclan's settled fer the season. Dismissed."

Stars dammit another lost apprentice, this was an issue. Crowtooths brow furrowed as his tail lashed, not directed at Hawkfur of course but still there. Hopefully the apprentice was just lazy and would show for the make up patrol and that'd be the end of it.
"Ugh what am I gonna do wit' this clan Hawkfur... I know it aint the mentors fault, stars Ive lost Winterpaw an' Nightpaw myself but its hard not ta feel guilty an' like theres gotta be somethin' that can be done ta prevent it.

I replace her 'cuz o' that an' she shows an' I give her a chance ta join an' not get punished. She fails that too an' leaves yall without an' extra paws. What disrespect." Crowtooth sighed, looking tired but nodded at Sixfoot. "Still, good catches yall. Tell Gourdsun Im thankful he could step in on short notice an' thank ya fer takin' the instability in stride an' catchin' somethin' anyways.

And coming up the rear were the last two of the bunch, right on time and with prey. Not a lot of course but, well, winter. And another porcupine, was Whiterabbit porcupine bait or something?
"Another one o' those? Weird. I think they eat roots an' fruit an' bugs like birds do? Dunno really, all knowledge I got is second paw." and an occasional finding of a vacant (thankfully) den underground.


"If ya wanna go back ta poke it go on yer free time an' fer stars sake dont poke the thing. Ill be right mad if yer not available fer patrols due ta spines in yer rump. Dismissed yall."
If Whiterabbit was set on turning right around and going back to the glade nothing was gonna stop her.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. How pathetic and disappointing out of these cats.


"Fine then. Burnetpaw yer demoted! Yer ta clean out an' replace the moss in EVERY den an' pick the ticks offa an' elder before ya can become an apprentice again. Ya got a moon ta do this or yer gonna face demotion.

Otterfur however.... We dont need burdens who cant even hunt ta support their own clan here. Yer exiled fer a moon. Come back wit' some humility an' a change an' maybe you'll find a home again."


But that wasnt even the last of it too was it. There was another failure amongst the clan, and this one hurt more.
"WOLFCRY! GIT OVER HERE!"
He hated doing this, the deputy didnt want to do this, to hurt Swiftleap who he rather liked by exiling his mate. But windclan couldnt support burdens in windclan who should be helping the clan.

"Wolfcry Im so disappointed in ya. Ya make a real blunder that couldve had ya exiled straight up, but I show mercy because Cal is apparently a better cat then ya an' is willin' ta join the clan fer ya. A cat ya honestly dont deserve because he can do so much ta integrate fer YOU an' ya cant even do the easiest punishment I could give in return.

It wasnt been a hard one. I gave ya a symbolic punishment that was so easy I could knock it out in a DAY an' ya cant even do it in MOONS. Its unacceptable, ya 'ave become a burden on yer clan an' cant even do this one simple thing when I gave ya so so many chances.

I... I just cant forgive this Wolfcry, its unacceptable. I am exilin' ya fer a moon at least, if ya wanna rejoin ya need to bring 5 pieces o' prey an' cobwebs. Even then.... I cant guarantee yall be allowed ta rejoin by Twilightstar.

Windclan had been doing alright this winter but perhaps it was a deep seated trauma from the famine he lived through as a kit but the deputy couldnt shake the worry it wasnt enough. They needed more prey, more food, more for the hungry mouths of the clan. And their borders needed to be secured, especially after the recent incident.
"Windclan gather on my paws fer patrol!

"So ya'll are gonna be the first ta hear this, the rest o' the clan will find out later but there was an incident on the border not long ago. A pair o' fish killed one o' our own but were swiftly caught an' handled by their own leaders. Still we're at alert again.

So Im leadin' this one, Silverrose an' Whiteflame yer wit' me."

Honestly the situation was worse then he'd represented if anything. Windclan had nearly gone to war again, it was a brutal senseless murder, executions occurred, riverclan still had more to pay them back, things were very tense, and it all just felt off. So yeah, that border was now gonna be trusted cats only for the foreseeable future.

Sometimes it was still so weird to have trouble at borders not shadowclan but then again the war had been over for a long long time. Still, he wasnt dropping his guard on the number of cats sent.

Honestly Crowtooth was still miffed about the last failure and dearly hoped he wouldnt have to temporarily exile more cats for not showing up to the patrol and punishment after.

Honestly Crowtooth had little hope the other patrols would find anything but this was why windclan had tunnelers. They could hunt in winter when no one else could.

The tom was heavily debating sending out another hunting patrol on top of this but if one was needed he'd just send it out later. It wouldnt do to over hunt the territory.

Daywhisper groaned as she slowly pushed herself to her paws, leading another patrol? The last one wasn't bad, but with her pregnancy nearing it's end she found it hard to function almost. The large she-cat bowed her head in greeting to Crowtooth as she passed tiredly.

The white and cream she-cat's gaze scanned the camp for the cats she'd been called up with. Russetpounce? She'd never met that cat, but she'd heard Falls talking about a 'Maggotpaw' before, one of her friend if Day recalled correctly.

She yawned, stretching a bit before sitting tall in a decently open place in camp, hoping her patrolmates would join her.
