Mousepaw

Mousepaw! Mousepaw! He was a Mousekit no more! Yayayayayay! And! And! He had a new mentor, oh yes yes. A Shadowfur... Wait, no. That was Fuzzy! Fuzzy was his mentor?! More yays! Victory! Huzzahs to be had! They needed to go out and celebrate!

Hind quarters wiggling with excitement as he got up and started to look around for the dark furred tom, Mousepaw noticed Darky walking up to him, congratulating him in... an admittedly uninterested voice, but! But. Mousepaw knew that Darky was shy. Oh yes yes. In fact, it was a surprise that Darky had come over to even say congrats! They really were awesomely awesome friends now, weren't they? Heh heh!

"Thank you thank you, Darky! Looks like we are going to be denmates now!" the stocky gray tom chirped with glee, his rounded ears perked up as he attempted to bump his head playfully to Darky's side.

Affection and gratitude shown for his friend's heartfelt congratulations - he knew Darky deadpanned with love, mmhmmm - Mousepaw turned to gaze at his mother, only to see her smiling in his direction. The monochrome apprentice - apprentice, eep - felt his chest puff up with pride. Mum was happy! Cheering him on! She wasn't angry with him or looking at him with disgust or disappointment! Maybe... maybe he could continue making her proud now? Yes, that would be best!

Before Mousepaw could think too hard on this, Wrenny's voice resounded from among the gathered cats, shrieking out his name, delight clear in her voice. The young apprentice had every intention of walking towards his friend and giving her a big ol' hug... but then... he remembered. Fuzzy! Gah! He had to go touch noses with Fuzzy! Silly, silly! Bad apprentice, bad! This was not a good start to his apprenticeship, oh no no no.

Instantly the dark limbed tom glanced around the clearing, verdant eyes searching for the black furred tom, his face breaking into a beaming smile the moment he caught sight of him. Yay! Fuzzy Fuzzy, he was there, he was there! Rushing towards him like a blur of gray, the tom looked up towards the enforcer with adoration in his gaze, nose pointed skyward as he waited to touch noses as was customary of first time apprentices and mentors. Or... so he thought. He might have heard wrong. But it was okay. Mousepaw was always happy to nuzzle his loved ones!

Darkpaw chuckled, watching the apprentice walk away. That kit really is a bundle of joy.
He smiled proudly. Even if he didn't show it, Darkpaw was proud Mouse was now an apprentice, the little kit made it.
Suddenly he thought of something, his smile faded. He had to protect Mousepaw no matter what. He would make sure to
protect him no matter the cost, it was an oath to himself and Mousepaw. Even if Mousepaw doesn't know.

Moonpaw watched with a glint of boredom in her eyes as Dawnstar appointed new mentors. It looked like today there was going to be a warrior ceremony too, though.

The patched tabby yellow eyes gleamed with excitement as he was named an apprentice though he did feel disappointment when his other brother Smokekit wasn't there to become one. He shook that thought away as he listened to who his mentor would be and his eyes gleamed even more. Ivysnake! He was trying to keep his excitement down as he got one of the best cats in the clan to have as his mentor, so he his eyes looked around for her before they landed on her as she sat under the Shadowledge.

He trotted up to her so they could touch noses or whatever. He wanted to make sure that he did everything right for his new mentor but also so he could gain more of Dawnstar's approval.

The bengal's eyes flickered up to the leader when they called their name. They were getting an apprentice it seems, while they hadn't trained one before they knew they could handle it, she doesn't know the kit much but hopefully they were willing to learn.

So the large cat trotted over to the apprentice and leaned down to touch noses with Spiritpaw.

The 2 moon old kit sat near the back of the crowd, watching the meeting with disguised curiosity. This was the first meeting she ever really paid attention to, finding them to normally be much too repetitive for her liking. But this one had a...what was it called... a warrior ceremony? That at least was new, so she was interested in what would happen.

~ IVYSNAKE OF SHADOWCLAN ~

Tall, angular, dark brown she-cat with distinctive, ivy-like black stripes and piercing amber eyes.

Ivysnake watched the kits step forward with a minor amount of interest. She remembered Hollowkit, Vulturekit, and Smolderingkit from her Kit Curriculum lessons. They'd been decent enough, but she'd especially liked Vulturekit. Now she hoped they would be adequate apprentices and even better warriors. The same went for all the kits - and the apprentice Dawnstar called up. Cougarpaw is Brackenfire's son and Dawnstar's grandkit, she recalled. Her mind briefly flashed to that family meeting Dawnstar had arranged for all of her adopted kin. Is he becoming a warrior? It was about time ShadowClan got more warriors. Ivysnake hoped he wasn't being called up for another purpose, such as a demotion or the rank of Disgrace.

Two missing cats suddenly decided to appear at the edge of the clearing. Ivysnake's short, dark fur bristled. Mirehound was already going to resolve the situation, and Dawnstar noticed but didn't react, so Ivysnake decided to stay where she was. She didn't know Mirehound well, but she thought the rosetted black tabby was a proactive member of the Clan, loyal and sensible. Dawnstar had also trusted her enough to make her into an Enforcer. I should speak with her at some point, Ivysnake thought, if I have the time. ShadowClan was, unfortunately, lacking in sensible cats, and Ivysnake wanted to get closer to those who actually cared about their Clan. But her other duties came first. Training as a medicine cat, sparring with her Clanmates, and holding Kit Curriculum lessons meant she didn't have much free time.

And it turned out she would have even less as Dawnstar called her name, not that Ivysnake minded. Annoyance at Smokekit deciding not to show his face at one of the most important events of his life faded as she chanted the names of the new apprentices along with the rest of her Clan, then found out that the one she liked most - Vulturepaw - was hers to train. Ivysnake straightened her posture, her way of showing attentiveness and pride - at least, in this case - without puffing her chest out or anything unnecessary like that. She was more mature now than she'd been, but she knew her younger self would've been proud to hear Dawnstar say those words about her. All our Clanmates should be strong, loyal, and sensible enough to deserve this praise. But unfortunately, things didn't work that way. There were too many frog-brained furballs filling up the ranks and calling themselves warriors.

The other apprentices had been given good mentors, though. Ivysnake didn't know much about Iciclestrike, but that was it. Vixensnarl, Shadowfur, and Larkfire were good warriors - all Enforcers, she noted. And, as it turned out, Cougarpaw was becoming a warrior. This meeting was a major improvement from the ones Ivysnake had attended recently, and it gave her hope for ShadowClan's future. A conflict brewing with ThunderClan, our young getting better education, warriors being made... Her training, both in the medicine cats' den and sparring, was also going a long way. The fox attack had held her back, but she was here now. This Clan will never fall. No matter what happens, I will stand by my glorious leader and sensible Clanmates to ensure we are always the strongest and most brutal of the four - and the most sensible.

Ivysnake stood up as Vulturepaw approached. Managing him with her medicine cat duties would be difficult, but she knew she could do it. She didn't waste her time on unimportant things anymore. Every waking, breathing moment was dedicated to her Clan. I'm busier as a medicine cat now than I was with Centipedepaw, she reflected. She wished she knew where the dark-gray-and-white tom had gone. He'd seemed sufficient, and Ivysnake had taken the time to learn his paw signs so they could communicate better. However, he'd decided to abandon his Clan or let himself get spirited away, and she wouldn't waste time caring about him unless he miraculously returned and had a suitable explanation for vanishing. She'd briefly wondered if it was her fault, but she hadn't neglected him despite her duties, and she'd taught him to be better than someone who wandered off. But who knew what mischief he and his brother, Hornetpaw, had gotten up to before their disappearance?

Again, the dark brown tabby wasn't going to waste time thinking about them. She leaned down to touch noses with Vulturepaw, observing the excitement blazing in his yellow eyes. I'll cut down on spars so I have more time for him and coordinate with Elmshadow so he knows when I'll be gone for training sessions and what's the best time to hold them, she decided. She was sure the war with ThunderClan would keep her and her mentor busy. It would be useful to have warriors or events she could direct Vulturepaw to when she was too busy to train him. However, Ivysnake wanted to get most of it done herself. Dawnstar was entrusting Vulturepaw to her so she could train him, and Ivysnake knew she could balance her medicine cat and warrior duties well enough so she didn't neglect him. It's useful to have other plans just in case something comes up, though.

"We'll talk about your training after the meeting," she murmured to her new apprentice, keeping her voice low so she didn't disturb Cougarpaw's warrior ceremony. She lifted her head and let her amber gaze drift to the russet-and-brown tom. She also briefly, idly allowed her gaze to slide over Elmshadow, who sat at the entrance to the medicine cats' den. Ivysnake was curious about what her mentor thought about Vulturepaw being assigned to her.

The Enforcer perked up as Dawnstar said her name, a smirk curling on her muzzle as she was assigned Smolderingpaw as an apprentice. It seems she would be continuing his lessons, something that Vixensnarl was pleased with. The Enforce stood and padded over to the newly named apprentice, leaning down to touch noses with him as was customary.

"We'll start your training directly after the meeting."

"Then I give you your warrior name by my power. Cougarpaw, from this moment onward, you'll be known as Cougarbite [ @Archjay ], we honor your strength and bravery and welcome you as a full warrior of ShadowClan." Dawnstar growled pridefully or would have been prideful if she hadn't had to attach this next little bit. "Your first act as a warrior will be to clean out the apprentice's den, and fetch new bedding for the apprentice." Dawnstar leaped down from her perch and padded up to her grandson.

"I don't tolerate undeserved bullying towards clanmates. I don't need it, it causes division within the clan and I already have enough of that as it is. When you're done with cleaning out the den, go hunting something decent and give it to Frozenpaw as an apology, since actions speak louder than words. You have great potential Cougarbite, don't waste it being petty. Every kit in Brackenfire's litter has disappeared and my daughter herself, you persevered and flourished where others would have used that loss as an excuse to give up and quit. You're more like me than I originally thought, do not become another disappointment." Dawnstar told him expecting him to heed her words cause she did not enjoy repeating herself or past mistakes.

Reclaiming her place atop her throne, the Savage Queen of the Shadows moved on to reassignment. "Frozenpaw [ @U.S.S. Catacombs ], Batpaw [ @Kay~ ], Singepaw [ @wren ], Swanpaw [ @serendipity. ], and Sharppaw [ @Willie Warf ]. You are all in need of new mentors, sadly."

"Slytiger [ @Lillian ], I'm giving you Singepaw to train, he's bright so training him shouldn't trouble." She was hoping he had better luck than he had with Tallpaw.

"Grapevine [ @Poprock ], I believe you could use someone to keep your paws busy. I've given Batpaw quite a number of mentors and they keep vanishing on him. I hope you'll do better."

"Woollyfeather [ @Abyssopelagic ], It's been some time since you've been given an apprentice. You'll be taking over Swanpaw's training."

"Frozenpaw, you'll be training with Sootstorm [ @~Mothman~ ] from now."

"Icebeam [ @Octavia! ], I want you to take over as Sharppaw's mentor." The molly demanded, and then waited till everyone was settled before she moved on to her last few announcements. She wanted to make sure she had every cat's full attention before speaking.

She was the first to get here, but the last to have her ceremony. How was that fair? It wasn't but at least hers would be the freshest in Shadowclan's mind. Still, she sat there boredly as Dawnstar made her way through all the others. Then at last she realized that she was the only one left. Larkfire? She contemplated this for a moment. On one paw had, she was young, young enough for Hollowpaw to have known her since she was an apprentice. But on the other, she was an enforcer, and the youngest one ever she might add. And on top of that, she was her first apprentice, and there had to be some special award for that, right?

Now obviously the good outweighed the bad here, so the young molly was unbelievably excited, even if that didn't show on the outside. She watched intently as a grey figure approached her, the warrior dipping down her muzzle to meet her own. She closed her eyes, one thought ringing throughout her mind.

Things were changing as she opened this new chapter, and she wasn't sure Shadowclan was ready for it.

Woollyfeather chirped with pleasant surprise as Dawnstar assigned her an apprentice.
She'd become so accustomed to helping apprentices with their training, she forgot that none of them were her own. At least she had plenty of practice teaching!
The lilac colour point approached Swanpaw, a slight smile across her maw.
"I look forward to teaching you."
She didn't remember who Swanpaw's previous mentor was or how long ago that assignment had been.... asking about their training was probably the best place to start rather than trying to guess.
"We can start whenever you want.... perhaps not while Dawnstar is speaking. I doubt she'd be too pleased with us if we did."
Her eyes flicked to the molly in question, realizing she was waiting for everyone to quiet down. Not wishing to be the one holding up the meeting, she quickly whispered her question.
"What training are you still needing?"
