He had seen some of his clanmates doing this around, but Basspaw hadn't ever cared to really learn himself. The opportunity was shoving itself in his face, though, and he figured it'd end up coming in useful sooner or later. At least, he didn't lose out on anything by learning. So, with an air of nonchalance, the apprentice walked over, noticing a familiar body. Shadepaw! That had been his tree-climbing buddy, he remembered. It was a little nice to see a face he knew, albeit not that well. Head up, he focused his eyes on Stemstone and whatever the figure would say next.

Scorpionpaw! The initial happiness that lit up his eyes at his sister's arrival dims when he hears he has to share. Whaaaaaaa! Why couldn't she get her own -- oh wait, she just wanted to flay one of his pieces. That was fine with him. Weepingpaw nudges the crow over to Scorpionpaw without a fuss. He supposed he should let her have a few bites after they're done skinning; he doesn't want her to go hungry.
"Deerclaw! Hello!!!" Weepingpaw returns the greeting enthusiastically when he sees who comes to join them. He eyed the prey he had from the prey pile, noting the snake. He hadn't known there was a snake in there, he hadn't looked all that hard. He was tempted to ask the older cat if he wanted to trade, but he glanced at his sister and thought better. She seemed a little upset with him when she first saw him, but that might have been his eyes playing tricks on him. She was fine now. Still, he wouldn't tempt upsetting her.

Grubpaw's eyes landed on a she-cat not far from bug. Bug recalled seeing her around Owlthroat and Tuftedtusk.. hmm. Perhaps this she-cat was a relative of Owls? Bug trotted up to Talonpaw and blinked at her, curiousity sparking in bug's gaze. "Hello. Bug reckons you must know Owls, yes? Bugs mentor? Bug has seen you around him and the tufty fellow."
Not that's what he's talkin' about! This was a good gathering! Some -paws were already grouping up, that would make things easier. His gaze was drawn to Blackpaw who approached him, commenting on his flayed snake. He smirked in response, his eyes glittering with pride. "Thanks! I learned from Mistlewhisker." Not really a humble brag, Mistlewhisker hosted an event after all. But he was proud that his skill was learned directly from the deputy, and honed over time. "Flaying isn't a required skill persay, but it's unique to ShadowClan. So if you're tryin' to learn about our clan's ways, this is a good place to start." He explained. Honestly, the fact that flaying was something only ShadowClan practiced was part of why he wanted to learn it in the first place.
As the other -paws gathered, chattering, Stemstone flashed a grin and lifted his tail. Trying to catch their attention. "Awesome! So let's get into groups first." He mewed, tail-tip flicking thoughtfully. There should be enough cats here to form an even number of pairs, good. "Listen up! Weepingpaw and Scorpionpaw! Grubpaw and Talonpaw! Twilightpaw and Blackpaw! Covepaw and Deerclaw! Houndpaw and Stormypaw! Pair up!" He yowled, waving his tail with a swish to round 'em up. Once they grouped up, he made sure they could all see what he was doing.
"Now, first for those of ya who grabbed a piece with legs, you'll wanna flip it on it's back and splay the legs." Since his prey didn't have legs, he demonstrated by motion with his paws in the air. "Once ya got that, one of ya cut a circle 'round the back legs juuuust above the paw with yer claws." With his unsheathed claws, he demonstrated the motion in the air. "Then, connect those lines by cutting below the tail. If yer piece has a tail bone, at this point you'll wanna snap it." Once more, he demonstrated the motion in the air so they could see, including the motion for how to break a tail-bone. Ah the memories. This was pretty much exactly how Mistlewhisker taught him.
"If ya got somethin' with no tail or legs, look up 'ere!" He added, pointing to his snake with his paw. "Basically the same thing. Put it on it's back, then cut around the tail. For snakes, I like ta cut basically as much of the pattern on the scales that I wanna keep." He explained, demonstrating by making one looped cut on his snake around the tail. "It's just the one here, nothin' to connect." He mewed with a chuckle.
"Remember that yer switchin' partners after you've connected your cuts!" He mewed. "I'm gonna be comin' 'round to answer questions or anything y'all might have." He mewed with a nod, flicking his tail to indicate for them to start.

Shadepaw's ear flicked when she heard she was partnered with Basspaw. Again, she remembered. She didn't really know him at all, but he seemed sensible enough. One thing she didn't get, though, was why they needed partners at all. Prey was small, and what was the point of learning how to flay if you couldn't do it by yourself? But she supposed she didn't have a choice, and Stemstone probably had a good reason for it. Maybe to conserve prey (even though they all were going to eat it after, anyways), or maybe to organize the event easier.
Whatever the case, Shadepaw made her way towards her partner. She nodded to Basspaw when she arrived, placing her squirrel down. Dark ears pricked when the warrior continued, starting his demonstration.
Flip the squirrel on its back, splay its legs. She nudged the squirrel so that its belly faced up. Cut a circle around the back legs above the paw, then connect the cuts by slicing below the tail after you've broken the tail bone. What exactly this accomplished, she wasn't sure. She noted how Stemstone demonstrated the movements, carefully storing the information away, including what to do if the prey doesn't have legs, like the snake. Shadepaw noticed how Stemstone had said to switch partners once they were done---that was slightly annoying, but she could tolerate it.
She extended a claw and slit around the hind legs, reminded of how she had slit the gills of fish before. She had to resist the urge to finish the rest steps. At least she had memorized what to do, and she assumed she'd still get to do the rest with another partner once they switched. Amber eyes turned to Basspaw, letting him have a chance to do the next step if he wished.
