Oh... her head was spinning. Well, even that would've been an understatement. Bless her heart, Berryshine was pleasantly overwhelmed by Vanta's words; what would've sufficed as just a few listed herbs and uses to make sure he knew what he spoke of ended up being something like a full training session's worth of knowledge... if not more!
Her eyes grew steadily rounder and wider as he continued, and she almost asked him to keep going when he'd initially paused. But the medic bit her tongue, knowing that Owlstar needed to speak first. The jittery brown she-cat shuffled her paws in nervous excitement, glancing between her two Clanmates before resting those green hues back on the outsider. Once he began speaking again, she leaned forward in interest, trying to absorb everything.
There were several uses of herbs she already knew that'd been expanded, and a few she'd never heard. If they let this cat in, Berryshine would surely be approaching him again for clarifications, examples, and seeing if he could show her any of these. She was focused with rapt attention, reciting everything and thanking StarClan that she had a natural tendency to remember herbal remedies and uses; if her brain was clouded with much other knowledge, she might've blanked and forgotten everything he'd said just now.
And by the time Vanta was finished, she was certainly overwhelmed — if not in the best way. Finally, some more knowledge! With her access to StarClan severed, and her severe lack of mentor opportunities or community with the other medicine cats... she'd been surviving off her limited knowledge for awhile. Now... now, she was feeling more like a true medicine cat.
Well, she'd have to clarify and ask questions, to be sure. There was no way she'd have just memorized all of that. But the medic had no doubt now that Vanta knew his stuff.
Berryshine finally turned to Owlstar, looking amazed and overwhelmed at the same time; there were practically stars in her leafy-green eyes. "I... I-I think he knows quite a bit of what he speaks on, Owlstar," she murmured, tail tip twitching excitedly. "T-The things I already knew, h-he was right on, a-and taught me a few more for each one... n-not to mention things he could show us. If you think t-they're telling the truth about their loyalty, then..." She didn't need to say the rest. The excited gleam in her eye spoke it all. She'd gladly accept them into the Clan, both to help Vervain's kitting and to have Vanta give her another run through with his extensive knowledge. Of course, it was all up to her leader, but for what Berryshine could confirm... they weren't lying about the herbal knowledge, at least. Not from what she already knew.
She wasn't sure what, but something about Ashwhisper's words calmed her. It was almost like a veil of weirdly intoxicating calm, which was weird to say the least and startled the tabby, but not enough for her to become concerned. Her muscles became less taut, but she caught onto the fact that Ashwhisper hadn't said Starclan, but 'some spirit'. Her eyes narrowed at this. "Are ya tellin' me ya took the word n' safety a a random spirit o'er yer clan? A spirit ya didn't even know all that well? Honestly, if it was so set ta help, why didn't they state their purpose n' plans ta Bumblestar first?" her tone was far more relaxed than it was moments before, but she wasn't entirely devoid of suspicion.
"It shows a lack a loyalty. I understand ya might've not liked Thunderclan all that much in the first place, but nocat was exactly forcin' ya ta stay there. And they certainly weren't forcin' ya ta come 'ere." Which really confused her. Why Riverclan? Thunderclan had every right to hate them, and Riverclan had every right to do the same. With clans that held such tense relations, why in the world would anycat go join the other clan?
She couldn't exactly determine whether or not Bumblestar's actions were the right call, but that was something she'd just have to chew on. Owlstar wad getting a clearer picture now, and she was a bit more open to whatever else they had to say, but no less cautious.
She then turned her one eyed gaze to Echobarley. "What in Starclan's name makes ya think Riverclan is the right place, eh?" The one eyed leader then blinked. "N' whatcha mean Spiderthorn started lyin' ta Bumblestar? Honestly, I know ya were exiled, well, one of ya were, ya just followed, eh? That alone is shaky." her tone wasn't as biting, and her hostility seemed to be ripped from her. However, she still saw some holes. Owlstar was about to just shoo them away for being exiled in the first place, no matter the circumstance. If Owlstar just saw some spirit, she would've been shaky too. Maybe not quick to exile though.
ashwhisper
Ashwhisper nodded unnervingly calmly as Owlstar spoke, seemingly now unfazed by her words. But at this point she was getting desperate. She was going to try her hardest, and by the law of Starclan- no, The Quasar, they were going to get into that stars-forsaken Riverclan.
“Owlstar. I get where you’re coming from, I really do, but you’ve got to understand that I did in fact know this spirit. I knew it very, very well. I know I just said otherwise, but that was. before the incident. And, I’m pretty sure it’s from Starclan. It’s got that starry pelt, even a starry face for that matter! But that’s irrelevant, isn’t it? Okay, thing is, it didn’t know it was visible to the cats in camp until, and yes I saw this, cats started yowling their heads off and trying to attack it. It did not have the chance to say that it wanted to help the clan. So, I hope that part’s been resolved.” she began, using her words carefully and as charismatic as she could force them to be.
Now, she’d completely dodge the loyalty thing, with a response to the other one.
She nodded to Echobarley before continuing;
“We.. We think Riverclan’s the right place for us both. Echobarley despises Windclan I believe, and I’m not.. exactly fond of Shadowclan. Plus, we absolutely cannot go into different clans. We’re besties,” Ashwhisper smirked slightly at their own tiny joke, looking to their “bestie” sharply before resuming their previous facial expression and demeanor.
“Well, regardless, we just think Riverclan is the best place for us to be. And about Spiderthroat — when the spirit appeared, he just started telling Bumblestar it isn’t real! I for one would absolutely not condone a deputy lying to their own leader. He was spouting absolute nonsense.” she concluded, peering back to Echobarley expectantly.

Besties. Hehehe. There was a smile in her direction, before he looked more serious again. Right. Um. He was worried they'd be sent away and then what? What would they do? The Quasar? There were so many questions. He was desperate to join. "My issue with WindClan is... parental issues." he muttered. And then he was just silent for a bit because he was unsure as to what to say. This was so scary. Why? He didn't know. it was a leader. Maybe. She seemed to know. A lot. He wanted to... be RiverClan. Because... maybe he'd fit in better. "I know nobody trapped us in ThunderClan... and it seems odd that I just suddenly... left. Sure. I get that and... I don't really like that either." he sighed. "The thing is I just wasn't really sure what was going on. And then I lived there and made friends but... I didn't want to be in a clan that was lying to itself. They don't have a Spiderthorn... I think. But the deputy is Spiderthroat and he lied to Bumblestar. About the spirit, actually. And Ashwhisper was just trying to help it and yet Bumblestar was like 'Well get exiled for trying to explain the spirit.'"
"But lying to the leader is just... wrong... and I decided I didn't want to stay. So... yeah." he muttered again. Echobarley looked a little bit shaky.

Rejoining Form for Missing Cats
Name: jayfrost Age: 35 moons-ish Gender: male Rank Request: warrior / perma queen In-Character Reason for Being Missing: got dragged into the water when trying to save stormstar and was presumed to be dead. in reality, he got fished out of the water by twolegs and kept strictly indoors while his wounds healed. Mention: @Marigoldwhisper ; @squidz
->> jayfrost <<-
[ he/him | outsider | 35moons ]
-> small, pale grey and heavily scarred oriental shorthair + collar and sweatshirt
jayfrost had lost track of the time he spent walking, paw pads raw and legs aching in exhaustion when he came across what he was pretty sure was riverclans border. had they moved? or had he simply forgotten the space they previously possessed.. it smelled like riverclan, but even through the haze permanently plastered over his vision he wouldve recognised the area. so this was..either a hallucination meant to lead him into a trap build by his mind itself, or riverclan had moved their borders.
he squinted across the invisible scent line, worry gnawing at his insides. the second pelt the twolegs had put him in itched where it had gathered debris on the way and he felt self conscious about the lack of offering he had to present to whomever took pity on him. with a bell strapped to his neck by use of a thick fabric collar he had been unable to remove without chocking himself out, it was hard to even feed himself.
he'd spend lots of time thinking about it, these past moons, how he would win them back over, what he could do to pay back to riverclan and make up for his failure. now it was all lost. lost in.. where was he going with this? the pulsating headache plaeguing him was of little help in trying to make sense of his thoughts.
apologise.. make up for his absence.. goldfish.. return..
a well known spirall. one that had kept him going. the former warrior had to expand far more energy than necesarry to draw his attention back to the two cats now slowly nearing, slipping into a dull unfocussed stare more than once before being able to experience the situation. everything was dull, like he wasnt quite himself. not like the times of breath taking and all encompassing panic, just, empty. a gutted fish. skinned rabbit. plucked bird. nothing but the vague manifestation of guilt. nausea. fear clawing at his insides. dull worry.
eyes narrowed in an attempt to place the bigger of the two, thick brown fur and a prominent facial scar. jays mind was closer to cotton in this moment, and even the smaller felines name too a while to register.
"oh berry..berrypaw" he mumbled aimlessly before tattered ears pulled back in shame, the realisation of his situation momentarily setting in. "oh! uhm i dont have a offering but i ask you to consider taking me back. i want to return to my..partner, goldfish, and her kits. after the otters-" the former warriors words trailed off, eyes going unfocussed for a moment. "i want to return to my home, please"
[ hi hello dont mind me reusing parts of jays og rejoining that was ultimately scrapped ]

✮" in all timelines, in all possibilities,.. only you. "✮
Berryshine walked alongside Owlstar, eyes widening in alarm. Oh, stars above... the cat she saw looked bedraggled and, momentarily, unrecognizable. If it weren't for him saying her name, she would've thought this was a runaway kittypet who'd been dragged through the Dark Forest and back (figuratively speaking, of course... except who knows what those ghostly cats did in their free time?).
The small brown molly froze, squinting her eyes... until the familiarity in her brain finally registered the face to the name. One she'd almost forgotten, with all that'd happened since he'd last been among their ranks.
"O-Oh, my stars..." the medic murmured in awe. Were her eyes deceiving her? Then her paws were moving, carrying her to her former Clanmate (she stopped a fox-length or so in front of him, however, not wanting to get too close until Owlstar gave the all-clear... her leader was a much better judge of character than Berry was).
"J-Jayfrost! Oh, dear... w-what happened to you? It's been moons! We all thought you...!"
She trailed off for a moment, not needing to finish that sentence. They'd looked for him, but had ended up presuming him dead. The Clan had grieved him as a lost warrior — whether to the forest beyond, or the stars. The grim look on her soft features betrayed that much.
Berryshine was analyzing the former warrior as any good medicine cat would. Green eyes shone in worry as she took in his thinner frame, the dusty pelt, the way his movements indicated muscle soreness and the rawness of his paws; he'd clearly been traveling for awhile on his own, and it hadn't done him any favors.
Sympathy and concern gnawed at her heart, casting a glance at Owlstar. Surely the leader would remember the incident, and Jayfrost's sacrifice. But he was alive! Who knows where he'd been? The joy mingled with the relief and confusion, gaze darting all over his pelt. She had so many more questions on the tip of her tongue, but didn't want to overwhelm the guy; he looked absolutely exhausted and half-starved, as if the light in his eyes had dulled from whatever he'd endured.
"It's Berryshine now, by the way," she added in a quiet voice, giving the warrior a weak smile that fell within a few moments. Owlstar would be making the final verdict, but it didn't stop Berry from trying to assess Jayfrost's condition, already running through her mind what herbs she had back home and how to assist him. "P-Please, tell us what happened to you, i-if you can..."

"My pulse is clear, rushing through my ears."
Owlstar flicked her ears, eye narrowed. There was still a lingering suspicion in her one eyed gaze, but less hostile. Berryshine looked all too eager, but of course she was. Cats and their plants, right? You can't separate them. As she glanced to the herbalist, her pupils blew out wide, expression soft. It was probably the happiest she'd seen her since Cobwebstorm left. There was still a pit in her stomach, one filled with a bitter determination.
Seeing the brown she-cat light up like a starry sky was certainly a sight. Rowanmane's blue gaze was hastily caught as well. She could see him slowly let his guard down, not physically, but rather inviting the idea of these outsiders staying as a possibility.
Then, she looked back to the outsiders, eye steely and cold despite its warm hue. Slowly, cautiously, she sheathed her claws, paws no longer tense. The leader shook her bristled fur and lifted her chin. "Al'ight. Ya've convinced me, ya stinkers. But whatcha need is a new name. Tell me chap," she glanced over to his mate, "what is it?" As she spoke, she lifted up her tail and flicked it, affectively telling both Rowanmane and Berryshine to meet her in the cleaning. She'd be there soon, hopefully without blood coating her maw.

the icy air was thick with tension, but he glanced gratefully towards the brown she-cat -what he only assumed was the medic of the clan- as she advocated for him, a glimmer of hope, in almost an instant, the suffocating aura lessened.
he narrowed his eyes in mild annoyance at being called a 'stinker' but he didnt say anything about it.
a name... he didn't put much thought into it before, but considering his father was named 'wormbite' and apparently this large brown tabby was named 'owlstar' he assumed it was a two-part name. "would, ah, shadowed//call, work?" he tilted his head slightly in question
