Muddypaw was bored. She needed something to do! Well, there were plenty of cats in camp, what was stopping her from talking to them? Yea... Yea!! Her eyes scanned camp, looking for somebody interesting... Rookfire! Rookfire was pretty interesting. She bounded over, large paws thumping against the ground. "Rookfire! Hey Rookfire! Whatcha up to?" She beamed, stopping only a few pawsteps besides him. Hopefully the answer was nothing, since then, she could ask if he wanted to do something! Perfect plan!

rookfires silver eyes blinked open when the vibration of paws on soil moved towards him quicker than any cat just passing past should be. not a moment too soon. muddypaw appeared to be rather late in pulling the breaks and wouldve probably skidded to a halt in his face had he not sat up in time. what could bring such excitement he didnt know. he had no real relationship with the young she cat so it couldnt be simple excitement from catching him not wrapped up in work or mindless chatter. however, there was also nothing special he could remember happening recently. odd.

"tryin' to rest" he chuckled, voice rough from lack of use and sleepiness. "what are you up to muddypaw?" the enforcer returned with a tilt of his head, only holding eye contact for a moment before beginning to groom down his ruffled pelt.

She grinned, he wasn't doing anything! Her perfect target! "I'm not doin anything but I was really bored so do you wanna like talk or spar or something?" Her speech was almost incomprehensible with how quick it was. Her excitement was only rooted in the fact she was TALKING TO SOMEBODY! WOO!!! She didn't have much of a reason other than that, but still, her joy persisted. With the right cat, her happiness would be contagious. She had yet to know if Rookfire was one of those cats.

admittedly, rookfire hadnt expected muddypaw of all cats to seek out additional training like that. not like she was slacking, just didn’t seem like the kind to go above and beyond. he wasn’t bothered though, every spar, even with an apprentice would do good in keeping his skills sharp and well-practiced.

”sure” the enforcer replied with a smile, her excitement was endearing. rookfire stood, a shudder running down his back as he stretched. even as he returned to standing properly, the slight twitching up his shoulder remained. not painful, just annoying. as it got warmer, Greenleaf well on its way, he wouldn’t have to worry about the old injury flaring up in pain from simple rest, yet it still limited him in some way. if not physically, it at least did so mentally from time to time.

instead of going for muddypaw immediately, rookfire simply stepped back, bringing some distance between himself and the apprentice and positioned himself properly. itd be muddypaws call to start the spar.

She lit up with Rookfire's acceptance. Yes! Her plan has worked perfectly! And she got a bit of sparring out of it! Perfect, perfect! Muddypaw positioned herself away from Rookfire as she watched him. She assumed she was to start, as Rookfire didn't go to attack.
She charged forward, right towards Rookfire. She lowered herself as if she was going to pounce right at him, but instead she attempted to swing one of her large paws up to try and disorient him. Her claws were unsheathed, as she did with all of her spars, why should she do any different? It was always like this!

rookfire hadnt hoped too much from this, he knew as much the second the apprentice launched her first move. sure it was already a good thing to spar with someone he hadnt found before but she appeared to be able to make use of her mind, not trapped without the roaring waters of battle adrenaline. some needed to learn to quiet it, others thrived in that environment. he wouldnt admit it, but he'd struggled with the near drowning sensation of claws flashing around him, cats yowling and blood spilling. now, every drop of blood, his own or anothers, spilt was comfort. like the motherly embraces he never got, like silence and security.

muddypaw appeared to go for a pounce, just to change direction in the last second and swing her paw at him. it hit, scraping skin but also giving rookfire the opportunity to make use of the odd position muddypaw had gotten herself into. practically frozen in the seconds before a leap, her centre of gravity moved sideways due to the lifted paw. the enforcer would try to ram into her, shoulder first.
