"Yay, babysitting, I don't recall that being in my job description, so I'm demanding extra pay," He groused to his mother as she set his younger siblings on him. He would have made them stay with him whether his mother ordered it or not, but it didn't hurt to complain for the sake of complaining. At least it wasn't Rainpaw, he'd take any of his siblings over Rainpaw. He noticed Rookpaw was trying to contain her excitement while Shrikepaw was doing the opposite. He found it super funny, but refrained from laughing at the pair.

His attention was drawn to Birchfawn as the tom joined the apprentices. He had almost forgotten that Shrikepaw had a new mentor. He wasn't sure what was up with Twilightstar and putting her kits with such inexperienced mentors, but he was not opening that can of worms. Plus, an extra set of eyes and paws would be helpful since Leechscar would be keeping half his attention on Twilightstar.

"Ow, Shrikepaw. That hurts. What am I to you? A stick in the mud?" Leechscar yawns as he gets up and pads over to his sisters. Rookpaw is greeted with an affectionate headbutt, and Shrikepaw gets a cuff over the head with his tail. How dare she call him not fun!

The lilac she-cat tried to focus on the apprentices and her warriors' excitement that came with being chosen for the... delegation patrol and not on the millions of things that could go wrong. Pointly ignoring Leechscar's snark, Twilightstar truly missed her more youthful self. That molly would only be thinking about getting back in time to get some shut-eye. Curse responsibility and trauma that turned her into this straightlaced worrier.

As Spottedpaw had nothing to say, Twilightstar would assume she had properly eased some of the she-cat's concerns. She almost spooks when she notices Lightingstorm's presence at the last second. She shifts to pull the feline out of her blindside and offers her a warm smile, with a bit of twitch in the corner of the curve. She was pretty sure she knew what the medicine cat would ask.

Tag-along. She was polite, but she was sure Lightningstorm must be a little frustrated with the leader's overprotectiveness, even if she understood the reasoning. "Only you would consider fighting against the tyranny of twolegs fun." She grinned and then looked over at the apprentices for a moment. She was bringing them, and she wasn't certain if the twolegs had any traps near the barn. Twilightstar hadn't heard of such a thing, but one never knew with twolegs.

"If you want to tag along, I'll take your offer. You can steal one of the warriors and an apprentice from the patrol if you're looking for helpers. You have to stay out of trouble, though. Difficult since I know you attract trouble like bees to honey, but you'll be banned from any more adventures for at least a moon if I'm stuck worrying." There was sarcasm in the leader's tone with a hint of sternness.

"You can stay at the halfway point and then join us at the barn after I'm certain our talk is done." Twilightstar felt confident enough that she had enough cats to deal with the barn cats, the dog wouldn't leave her mind, but Hawkfur's patrol and Crowtooth's had come back to camp fine, so it was probably simply her anxiety thinking the worst. She hadn't been to Windy Hills since the twolegs started building, so she'd like to look around if possible. She didn't mind Lightningstorm wandering and looking as well after she and the patrol had secured the place and the barn cats.

"Crowbones, I don't plan to be gone that long. No later than dusk." Twilightstar offered the warrior as he tried laying out a plan for guarding. She didn't imagine it'd even take that long. She added extra time for any unexpected problems and how long it might take to find Beast.

"If there are no other questions or concerns, let's be off." Twilightstar called to the cats in her patrol.

Mismatched ears perked up as Twilightstar divided patrols and guards, feeling that sense of pride once more as he heard his daughter's name being picked among those accompanying the leader to confront the barn cats as well as a modicum of concern for her. He knew it was a part of clan life. That being trusted with such a role was something to be coveted. That being worried for the sake of his daughter over the rest of the cats was selfish of him, and wrong but... how could he not feel for the kit he had raised from birth, no matter how old she was now?

Snowybreeze, on the other paw, was chosen to guard, and he felt relief that he had been deemed of use to his clan. He needed to be a good role model for his precious kits. And for his young apprentice, too! Erm... not so young anymore, but goodness... Maybe he was just getting old?

Standing up, he padded towards Crowbones, his head tilting only in slight confusion as the tom gave his orders. Oh dear. Did... did he think the patrols would be gone for so long? Oh. Oh he hadn't even considered that possibility. He had been part of patrols like these before, and they had always been a day's affair at most. But now he was concerned. Oh his poor daughter! Gone for more than a day! How would she fare? Should he remind her to behave?! No. No! Trust her. That's what he should do. His kits were wonderful, thoughtful cats who wanted what was best for their clan. She would know best once she got there. Besides, she had Dapplebreeze with her. His grandmother would defend her no matter what!

He nodded at the tom, ready to head off for some rest so he could take the next watch when... Twilightstar spoke. Oh. Oh good. They wouldn't be gone for so long that he had to overly worry. Thank StarClan!

A sigh of relief escaping him, Snowybreeze turned his attention back on Crowbones as the leader prepared to leave. Neither Ashgrove nor Lightnight had approached them yet, so he hoped the other warrior would not think of him too poorly and as too bold of a tom when he finally whispered, "P-perhaps. It would be. Alright. If I. Were to. Sit. And. Stand watch. With you? Ashgrove. And. Lightnight. C-could. Maybe. Cover. The next. Shift?"

Crowbones sharp, almost cynical gaze looked at the tom, studying him intently, but his voice was deep, soft and calming as he spoke. "I ain't got a reason ta say no to that, I'd love some company." The huge warrior nodded, rolling his shoulders as he looked at Twilightstar. "Better to be prepared for every possible circumstance." He responded.

Birchfawn stretched out his legs and followed Twilightstar, flicking his tail over Shrikepaw's ears as he turned to leave with the patrol - a small smile directed towards the apprentice.

A purr escaped the fury lieutenant as Twilightstar chose not only herself, but her grandkits to come along as well. There was clear pride in her eyes as she had gathered up Gnawingpaw, the youth already standing besides her and calling to her cousin with eager glee. Oh... if Bravebird were here to see her lovely son already taking his first patrol of utmost importance! And even her grandson, Snowybreeze, had been chosen for the task to guard the camp. It warmed her heart to see her family strong and making themselves integral parts of WindClan. Why, even Jaggedpaw, whom had not managed to secure a position in the patrol, had gotten the leader as his mentor. Surely no one would blame her for the clear delight in her stance despite the severity of the situation they were to walk towards now. After all, it might be cats they were dealing with, but it was still the twolegs' center of trespass. The place they sought to take from their clan. Danger might not be certain, but it was a foolish cat who did not keep their wits about them when they reached there.

"Oh, splendid, my dear!" Dapplebreeze praised as Gracklepaw reached them, a loving smile on her face. "Now, you both stay close to me. I have every confidence you both would be more than worthy opponents to the cats that reside within our territory if it were to come down to a fight, but caution in places plagued by twolegs is only sensible. A strong warrior knows to be confident, but not overly so."

The warning was stated in a demure, motherly voice, no trace of anger or pessimism within it. They were young, yes. Even for apprentices. But they had started their training early, and had clearly been hard at work getting the skills necessary to become warriors. Her words were less for discouragement and more to enforce the need for common sense. She knew a less experienced cat might crave action or try to bite more than they could chew. Deal with more than they could firmly get a grasp on. There was no shame in relying on allies and backing away to fight another day. Death came for them all, yes. But there was no need to get to that eternal rest sooner than necessary.

"What could possibly not be fun about tha'?"

The former queen turned to look at the widely grinning medicine cat, realizing as she continued speaking that she would be tagging along and making a camp at the midway point. Dapplebreeze did not miss Twilightstar's instruction to Lightningstorm regarding the nature of her helpers, and she wondered if she would be taking one of her own grandkits as an assistant. There was pride to take in a medicine cat considering you trustworthy enough for helping in care for the potentially injured, but she was not certain if the paws would be mature enough to understand it as such. The medicine cat agreed to the terms with a cheerful, playful rebuttal and bounded away towards her tunnels, clearly searching for herbs to bring along before she decided on who to have stay with her. No doubt neither of the furies, as both had young charges to take care of already. And yet... had there been any other cat she had seen the spotted feline positively consorting with... well... ever? She would have to keep an eye out for her until a decision was made. Just in case.

Moorsong gathered herself and walked to the rest of the patrol, ready to leave. The small queen looked around at the camp, unsure of how this would go. She didn't want to fight, but if push came to shove, she would show no mercy.
