It was that time of day again! Well, at least it would be, if Sunheart hadn't been so busy lately. He hardly had time to check in on Blueberry and the kits. But today, he did have time! And he was certainly going to use it.
As he pushed his broad shoulders through the nursery entrance, he was surprised to see Antlerkit sitting there waiting, almost expectantly. "Hey there, Antlerkit," He mewed warmly, nuzzling the small tom's head gently with his nose. "Whatcha doing waiting right here? Expecting someone?" The deputy questioned, peering deeper into the nursery to see if Blueberry had maybe stepped out. He didn't see her, but maybe Antlerkit had been waiting for her to return. "Everything alright?"
( EEP for some reason I never got notif ;v; I'm sorry for delay in response )

Ah, yes. He knew it all along. It felt as if he could foresee the upcoming experiences. But jokes aside, he’s so thrilled to meet his father- …ahem. Friend. Antlerkit darts to him before Sunheart makes a gentle nuzzle on his head. “Sunny!!!” There’s a lot to tell, and nevertheless, Antlerkit barely told his parents about anything in general. What a pity. His parents must be very busy with clan duties or such.
“You were gone fer’ sooo long! Must be tirin’ ta be a deputy.” He teasingly considers, but he’s still annoyed that he rarely has the opportunity to meet him. “Anyways, I want'd ta tell ya that I’ve stack'd ta tallest pebble towa EVA!” Antlerkit raises his arms and gestures the height of the tower as precisely as possible, but his tiny arms appear to be too short to make it exact. “It’s like… er… whaddya say.. two kitt’n heights tall! Talla than ya! Heheh!” He thereafter lost his balance while spreading his arms and stumbled onto the nest with a thump. “…Owey.”

Pale green eyes widened slightly at the nickname, but he knew he didn't have the heart to correct Antlerkit. He was just too darn cute! Geez, what a softie, he was...Perhaps when he was older, the deputy would correct him (he would not).
"It can be busy being the deputy, but I'll always make time for you guys." Sunheart purred. He looked thoughtful for a moment after his words. He knows he definitely meant it, and it was kind of nice. Maybe...well, now was not the time for those kinds of questions.
Whiskers twitching in amusement at the young tom's excited outburst, he settled into a loaf in front of him as he listened. "Two kittens high?!" He gasped, eyes alight with humor. Watching as Antlerkit spread his paws in the air and fell backwards, the rosetted tom covered a snort with a small coughing fit. "Are you okay, Antlerkit? Your mother will never forgive me if you got hurt on my watch." It was said as a joke, but a tiny, cold shiver ran down Sunheart's spine at the thought. Queens were scary.

Right. His mother. Where is she, actually? Stars, he shouldn’t forget his mother! “But ya know where Ma’ is, right?” He whispered with his widened, dark eyes, but bothered that he might make Sunheart worried as well. “Well, err… If Ma’s not there, then I want ya ta tell her ‘bout everythin’ I told ya! She will be proud of me ‘n praise me, just ya wait!” He got on all four legs to puff his chest with an honored vibe.
“Speakin’ of Ma’, I saw ya oft’n bein’ togetha with her, tho. Are ya both frien’s? Er… Oh! Someon’ told me ‘bout so-call’d “mates” n’ such…" He paused for a moment to ponder, bronze eyes glued to the floor. "what r’ they, actually?”

A slight frown of concern at Antlerkit's initial question, he shook his head. "Not right now, no. I'm sure she just went to stretch her legs." Sunheart mewed soothingly, hoping he sounded convincing. He knew Blueberry hated being stuck in the nursery, but even she wouldn't be so foolish as to leave the camp while she still has kits to watch over.........right?
Shaking the thought from his head, he chuckled at the kit's words. "Of course- it'll be the first thing I tell her when I see her." He promised, raising a paw in an attempt to briefly noogie Antlerkit's head. "We'll always be very proud of you." We? He was talking like he was this kit's father. Well, he supposed it should still be natural for him to be proud. He was RiverClan's deputy, after all, and the youth was what kept the clan going. Ah, he was thinking about this too hard.
Blinking in shock at the tiny tom's next question, Sunheart cleared his throat awkwardly. Was it his place to talk to Antlerkit about this kind of stuff? His pelt felt warm under his pelt all of a sudden and he looked off to the side awkwardly. "Well, of course your mother and I are friends. Good friends." He replied slowly, internally cringing. "Mates are...it's like Blueberry and I-" Heat creeped quickly through his pelt. "A-as in, they're like us. Friends. But they are...in...loooove?" The tom dragged out the last word in a confused tone. Does Antlerkit even really understand what love is yet? He's so young...Stars, where was Blueberry?
( @Rudie - HE'S SO CUTE do we bring Blueberry in? :3 )
"It was! Butterflies are really pretty," Lichenkit agreed. They really didn't know much about bugs, but they were nice to look at. So different from cats. You couldn't collect them like rocks, though. "and so are dragonflies."
It only now hit them that they flying bugs were their favorite. Was it just that they had an affinity for flying creatures, despite being the only kit in her family not named after a bird? No, not that. Bird weren't even their favorite thing to eat. Sure, they were majestic, but they didn't capture the same appeal. Maybe because flying bugs you could get close to before the flew off. They would have to think about this later.
For now though, Basilkit deserved Lichenkit's attention! Her and the little wriggler, of course. It kept going on its way, uncaring of the conversation that it sparked. "What's you favorite kind of bug?"
“Loooove?” With his head tilted, the lilac kitten mimics the deputy’s awkward tone. He knows that they usually use the word “love” to define something they like a lot, but what does “love” and “mates” have in common? However, instead of focusing more on their gist, he just straight off says the word out loud, bronze eyes widened with notion. “Looove!” He would nod for a brief moment.
Sunheart knows a lot about the world, doesn’t he? Well, if so, then he’s very proud of having him as his fath- …friend. Who is his real father, actually? Antlerkit thereafter begins to march around in a small circle, before encircling around the deputy, head empty. “Love, love, loooove.” Love is so fun to spell! “Love, love…” He pads back to his usual spot and finally looks up to Sunheart. He seems so flustered; did he do anything wrong? Perhaps he doesn’t enjoy the word “love” at all?
“If I’m gunna be as old as ya, my warria name will be Antlalove!” He feels urged to spell it out several more times, but Sunheart gets the point. “I love Antlalove, I love Sunny, I love Ma’ n’ my sibs~…” He sways from left to right while he sings a completely made-up song.

BlueBerry padded back into camp with a soft snort of amusement, a small bundle of leaves and moss dangling from her jaws. She’d only gone as far as maybe three fox-lengths outside camo to breathe a little fresh air, get some bedding—five heartbeats to herself—but apparently that was long enough for chaos to bloom. Again. She paused in the entrance, blinking at the scene playing out in front of her.
There was SunHeart, looking like StarClan themselves had been prancing around and speaking to him. And then there was Antlerkit, trotting in a proud little circle around him, tail high, chanting a very familiar word over and over again—love.
Oh no.
BlueBerry’s ears flicked upward in alarm before slowly pressing flat in tired resignation. The queen sighed through her nose, setting the moss and leaves down with a defeated expression and stepped up near the pair. “AntlerKit,” she mewed lightly, voice carrying both humor and warning. “What in StarClan’s name did you do to the deputy this time?”
Her bronze eyes flicked toward SunHeart, catching his very warm, very flustered expression, and she narrowed her eyes slightly in suspicion, through she couldn’t deny the warmth that flared in her chest upon being near the golden tom. “And you—what have you been teaching my kit?”
She didn’t wait for an answer. Instead, she padded over, flicking Antlerkit gently with her tail before sitting beside them both with a low purr. “Antlalove, huh?” Her tone was teasing, but her eyes shone with something warm and unreadable as she looked between the two. “That’s quite the name. Very… passionate. I hope your warrior ceremony doesn’t involve quite so much singing.”
BlueBerry leaned over to nuzzle AntlerKit’s head, voice quieter now. “I love you too, you little menace.” Then, almost too casually, she looked to SunHeart. “So. Love, huh?” She arched a brow, tail curling around her paws. “Anything else ya taught my son while I was gone for five whole minutes that you’d like to explain?”

Gladepaw long-furred, scarred, dark brown classic tabby with amber eyes

Gladepaw didn’t answer at first. Her throat tightened with emotion she didn’t quite know how to name, and for a moment, all she could do was blink owlishly at Stormwish, caught off guard by how gentle the queen’s words were. Something about what they said made her chest ache - in a good way, something that left a warmth behind even if it stung a little at first. She watched the way Stormwish looked at the kits, the softness in their expression like sunlight filtering through leaves. It made something flutter quietly in Gladepaw’s chest, a half-formed wish she didn’t dare speak aloud. She didn’t know what it was exactly, just that there was a kind of peace here, tucked between the moss and sleepy purrs, that she hadn’t realized she’d been missing until now. “I… I t-think they’re l-lucky,” she murmured finally. “To h-have… s-someone who looks at t-them like t-that.” Her amber gaze drifted over the kits for a heartbeat before returning to Stormwish, a touch more open than she expected. “It’s not j-j-just the h-hard work, i-it’s you. The w-way you… c-care. I think t-that’s what makes the d-d-difference.” The compliment slipped out before she could stop it, but she didn’t regret it. When Stormwish laughed and laid a paw over hers, Gladepaw stiffened instinctively, her shoulders immediately tensing before slowly relaxing again. The queen’s touch was warm and not at all what the tabby had been bracing for. She hadn’t flinched this time, and that alone startled her more than the contact itself.
She sat very still, as though moving might cause the whole moment to break apart. It felt like a kind of touch that asked nothing in return except to be accepted. Her breath hitched softly, but she didn’t pull away. It was… nice. “Y-you mean it?” she whispered, her voice barely more than air, but laced with something vulnerable and trembling. Her eyes flicked up toward Stormwish’s again, only this time they held a softness that hadn’t been there before; like snow just beginning to melt. “I-I could really… h-help? You’d want m-me here?” The idea settled slowly in her chest, spreading like warmth from the inside out. She couldn’t remember the last time someone had said they liked having her around. Not because they had to, but because they meant it. Not because she was someone’s apprentice or because they needed a paw to clean moss or sort feathers. Just… her. Quiet, clumsy Gladepaw.

➥ The kitten nodded. That was a fairly valid answer. ”Dragonfwys are very quick,” she murmurs, her tone thick with the recent memories of observing one. Lichenkit.. lichen.. it sounded familiar on her tongue. Maybe she had heard it from someone, or maybe from an conversation. Ah, welp. That was for another day.
➥ The mister wriggly bug scampered forwards slowly. Maybe she could count how much legs it had. But she wouldn’t be able to keep track of it properly without messing up. She didn’t really know numbers that good!Basilkit shuffled her paws awkwardly. Dragonflies were small and agile, and they kinda freaked her out. But they were just bugs after all, and she always found them interesting.
➥ When the wriggle-ley bug had started to move even more, Basilkit looks up again, blue - amber eyes lingering on their gaze. ”Hmm. Fawourite? I like beetles and moths the most.. they’re pretty.. do you like any other bugs?” she mews, tilting her head. If she had to guess, maybe Lichenkit would like wriggly legged bugs like this one, but that probably wasn’t the case. Ah well. She would save the guessing game for another talk.
