SPIDERPAW
Riverclan Apprentice | 7 moons | Lanky, amber eyed, blue-grey tabby she-cat with white paws, chin, and tail tip. Heightened perception: Smell
~~~
Berryshine's voice carried across the clearing, and she perked up immediately as her name was called. The apprentice scrambled to her paws and tried not to bound over in her excitement. Two patrols in one moon? She was getting all of the experience she needed! He tail swayed behind her as she finally reached the medicine cat. "Hi, Berryshine." She mewed and bent her head down. She already knew the scent of borage, but she sniffed at the chervil, taking in the grassy, minty-bitter smell that distinguished it from other herbs.
It was unfortunate that she didn't really know anyone else on the patrol. It had been nice to have her familiar cousin on the border patrol, before, but she supposed that she couldn't win all of them. She was in pretty high spirits, today. Maybe she could ask Berryshine what Chervil did when she got back from the patrol.
The apprentice looked up at Shadowedcall, feeling her heart quicken as she realized she might have to talk. No, she would have to talk. "I... I know where it is..." She mewed, tail tip twitching. Was she going to lead the way? Even if she hadn't memorized the path, she could've found it again just by following the scent of the sea.
Whispy's ears perked at the sound of Berryshine's voice, bright green eyes glittering hopefully. She let out a delighted trill when her name was called, rushing forward. She eagerly peered closely at the flower the herbalist showed her, taking in the scent and taking note of the bloom. Leaves only, got it! She looked up at Berryshine with a nod and a purr, taking a moment to reach forward and briefly touch noses with her friend. She was glad that Berryshine took her oath seriously, because Whispy certainly meant it when she said she wanted to go on as many of these missions as possible! And when she returned, she fully intended on inquiring as to what this herb was used for - it was new to her after all! Certainly has an interesting name...
But now wasn't the time for questions! She was vaguely familiar with Floodsight, or at least she'd seen the queen spend some time with Ravenglow and Rainwish when they were her denmates. But she wasn't super familiar with the warrior. She wasn't extremely familiar with Sharkhail either, but hopefully they were nice! If not...well hopefully they were. As excited as Whispy was for finding a new herb (to her), she didn't want to be spoiled by poor attitudes. So...yeah. This'll be fine! StarClan wouldn't have put these cats in her path for no reason!
CrowPaw had been sitting near the edge of the clearing, eyes half-lidded and ears twitching to distant birdsong when BerryShine’s soft voice carried over. Her head snapped up, paws stiffening beneath her as her name was called. Another patrol. Another cat she didn’t know.
She rose slowly, carefully. The familiar sight of BerryShine helped ease the tension in her spine, just slightly. She padded over, staying a bit behind SpiderPaw, who already seemed eager. The scent of the herbs was grounding, and CrowPaw leaned in to take in both, memorizing their smell and appearance.
Then she glanced up at the tom she assumed must be Shadowedcall. Older. Unfamiliar. A former outsider. Rough around the edges, at least by the sound of his voice. CrowPaw’s chest tightened. She didn’t do well with strangers.
Her ears angled back just slightly at the question, but to her quiet surprise, SpiderPaw spoke first. She knows the way. That meant CrowPaw didn’t have to. Relief settled cold and quick over her, though it was followed by a quiet guilt for not speaking up. Still, she nodded in agreement. “M- me…too,” she mumbled, eyes flicking toward the ground. She visited her sisters… Her voice barely carried. “The w-wind’s s-str-stronger n-near the field. You can…can smell s-salt and flowers be-before you even s-see it.” It wasn’t confident, but it was something. She didn’t want SpiderPaw to be the only one talking. She was trying.
She fell quiet again, shifting slightly closer to her fellow apprentice. Maybe if she just followed SpiderPaw and kept her ears open, she could do this without messing anything up. And if not... Berrys would understand. Wouldn't she?
Floodpaw(sight)
demoted until May 20th ✦ RiverClan Warrior | 29 moons | Mind Reader ; Killer Aptitude T3 ; empty slot
Floodsight- now demoted, had made her way toward Berryshine when she heard the medic call out to them. She'd hope these patrols could somehow make up for her blunder and tardiness from the previous. Floodpaw sighed, still a little embarrassed and hung from her past mistakes. But there's no point in getting down in the dumps. Even if she was demoted in the meantime, Floodpaw wasn't going to act like an sulking apprentice until she could earn her name back.
Seeing that the medic is looking a little brighter than usual, Floodpaw had wondered if there were any good news. Perhaps their path to StarClan was opened up? Or not- they haven't heard from the stars in ages. The silver she-cat made her way towards the gathering of herbs to carve the image into her mind. Moss and blessed thistles. Alright, should be straight forward.
"Hello there, little one. You seem to be quite interested in the herbs~" Floodsight gently called out to Whisperingpaw, offering her a soft smile and an assumptive statement. Though she'd never talked to this apprentice, something about her was vaguely familiar. "Once Sharkhail gets here, we can get going."
The sleepy apprentice wandered out of the den to Berryshine's voice. Herb patrols - what a nice way to start the day! He stretched out his back, and padded on over. Adderstrike and Beaverpaw. He knew Adderstrike from somewhere, though he couldn't remember where. Beaverpaw, they definitely knew! They'd first spoken when they moved to this new camp, right? He'd forgotten just how little this place felt like home back then, the way they'd missed the mountains so much.
They made their way up to the herbs to take a good look. He'd never seen Juniper Berries before. Cobwebs, he remembered from Berryshine's first aid training. The apprentice prodded a juniper berry with their paw. It was a little blue sphere. Looked kind of tasty, actually, but they weren't about to push their luck and start eating the herb stock. So, they were looking for dark green bushes. "Thanks Berryshine," they offered her a soft smile, then joined Beaverpaw, who was already waiting. "Hey Beaverpaw," It came out as a kind of yawn-speak, as he blinked the sleep from his eyes. "How's it goin'?" They hadn't spoken properly in so long - he hoped his fellow apprentice was doing well.
“I can fix her!”
Hmm, it seemed like Adderstrike wasn't the first cat in several times in a row now. She decided to not worry about that, it wasn't like anyone care that hard unless she never showed. Now that would be a problem, The warrior gave the two apprentice's a smile when she got close. "Hello Beaverpaw, hello Seapaw. Let's make sure to stick close to each other just in case. Alright?" She said with an almost parental tone in her voice. A part of wish she could have kits of her own. Maybe in another season cycle, maybe by then she would be ready. Hm, there wasn't much else to say... "Come on let's get out of here!"
Alright it seemed like it was patrol time again and,... There was Floodsight now Floodpaw. He gave them a disapproving look but decided to keep his mouth shut for now. No need to upset the actual apprentice with his... Well his personality. Maybe if he ever got time alone with the warrior then he could show teeth. "Right, you two let's get out of here. I already burned up enough of our time." With that Sharkhail started towards Lionbeach- Hey wait did berry send him there because of his name?
Talonhive padded between the trees that marked the entrance to camp, making a beeline to drop off the crab he had caught on the freshkill pile. Once that was done, he made his way over to Sunheart to report the patrol.
"The patrol went fine. Irisdream and Duskleaf both managed to catch prey. I caught a crab once I was sure they weren't going to try to wriggle out of the punishment."
Sunheart nodded approvingly as Talonhive approached, the total of the patrol's haul quite decent. "Good work, you three." He mewed, eyes narrowing curiously at Duskleaf and Talonhive's exchange. He knew the new warrior could be tough to get along with at times, but that's exactly why Sunheart sent him. His self-righteousness proved useful, and he thought of no one better to get the job done. Twitching his ear as a signal that Talonhive was dismissed, the deputy rose to his paws and stared silently at Duskleaf and Irisdream for a few heartbeats. "Come see me when you have a proper explanation." He said, expression disappointed but no longer angry.
Alright it was getting a bite late but that was fine, he had an eye on the two kiddos the whole time. Once at the patrol place he placed down his mice. "Sunheart the kits brought back some prey. They did alright." He said before looking back to the two to see what they would say to the deputy. Again he wondered if Copperkit did enough but a vole was still a meal.
Dismissing Sharkhail with a grateful nod, the deputy stared down at Copperkit and Speckledkit, pale green eyes revealing nothing. "Tell me, you two, do you understand why you were demoted?" Sunheart asked, clearly looking for an in-depth answer.
