The Fool

The big warrior’s explanation of poison and venom seemed to go straight over Pikekit’s head but he tucked it away somewhere to save for later. Fetching a warrior, oh oops. ”I’m sorry Miss, we thought we could do it! But it turned out to be pretty ferocious!” Pikekit giggled and his eyes widened as he watched her.

His jaw opening in astonishment as their winner was crushed underneath the bark and underneath her blow. A proper burial? No! She’d just crushed the winner, that wasn’t fair at all the winner was supposed to live. ”No! That’s not RIGHT! He won! Angrypants won! Why did he have to die?” There was a spark behind his words, a determination to argue out his point and make his stance clear that his winner should have survived.

”He beat every bug really, he got to the very end.” His anger had calmed but he wanted it known loud and clear that he still wasn’t very happy with the decision that had been made.

Ears flat with disappointment as he pushed his way into camp through the entrance tunnel, the deputy plopped down on his rear as his gaze swept around camp. First Soaringpaw, now Riftpaw...He gritted his teeth. Surely nothing so bad as whatever happened to Soaringpaw had happened to Riftpaw...right?

Pelt prickling uncomfortably, Sunheart let out a sigh. It was almost as if Riftpaw had vanished with the rising sun. Where had he gone? Why had he gone? As much as he would love to, there was no use pining over it. No- instead the tom padding quietly over to the side of the clearing, using the excuse he was keeping an eye on everything to cover his glowering.

The twins had been sharing tongues when they noticed Sunheart plop down nearby. Ravenglow felt a pang in her chest when she saw the expression on his face, unbeknownst to her Rainwish felt a tightening squeeze in her own chest at the same time. However, unlike Ravenglow who knew the source of the feeling, Rainwish was left puzzled. But she shrugged it off quickly when Ravenglow looked her way, giving her blue-eyes sister an encouraging smile. The twins rose to their paws and padded over to their deputy, dipping their heads in a respectful greeting. They weren’t young -paws anymore, they’d grown up.

Rainwish stayed a little ways back, knowing that Ravenglow would more than likely want to speak with Sunheart, and she didn’t know if she was going to participate much in the conversation. The bright green-eyed feline was more so there for moral support. Ravenglow sat next to Sunheart, giving his shoulder a friendly nudge. “Hey, Cap. What’s with that face?” Ravenglow asked, trying to brighten Sunheart’s mood with a friendly grin. “Cap” being short for “Captain”, since she couldn’t very well call him “boss”. That was Owlstar’s name. Obviously.

Heroneye

Heroneye turned her ears towards the apprentice. Another apprentice needed battle training. She was becoming popular, it seemed. Not that she minded; she could use something to keep her busy, really. Though she had to admit, it was just a bit unnerving to see Seapaw as an apprentice. It didn't seem that long ago that he was only a kit attending that event all those moons ago; maybe Heroneye was feeling a bit old.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts; from the looks of it, Seapaw had enough angst to go around. Now that Heroneye thought of it, most cats she'd trained were more than eager to learn combat. She wasn't sure she'd learned yet how to approach apprehension. Perhaps this would be a learning experience for the both of them. Heroneye's whiskers twitched--to think that she'd be excited with the prospect of failure. Maybe she was becoming soft, too...

"Of course," she replied with a certain dutiful air. She flicked her tail, indicating that the apprentice should follow her, and led them into the forest. She wasn't quite sure what the source of Seapaw's nervousness was yet. Perhaps they didn't like Heroneye, or battling, or both, or something else entirely. In any case, she wasn't sure she could soothe him without more information.
