Two was okay. Though he always preferred to bring back at least three. The forest had to be leaping with prey, considering newleaf's return, so his hopes were high. [rolling to see if he finds 1 or 2 ! Rolled: 10 . rip] He began to skulk back towards the ferns, in hopes of finding something along the way... Aha! A small scufflng sound, once again. And, the sweet scent of mouse. He crept closer, as the scent became stronger. And there it was. Basically waiting for him by the ferns. So, he pounced, and finished with a clean bite. Thanks for your life, little one. It'll feed the clan well.

He waited for everyone to arrive back, happy to see that it'd been a sucessful patrol. No reason to expect any less with these cats. Hopefully he went up a little in Sleepysunrise's extimations. As in, from total dope who can't recognise herbs to... Total dope who can't recognise herbs, but, can hunt... Decently? Stars, why was he getting so anxious about this? He needed to mellow out. And just. Behave normally. Was it the enforcer challenge throwing him off, or just... The pressure of leading a patrol with her watching? He didn't know why he'd decided to put so much pressure on the medicine cat's opinion, but it seemed he had. He supposed he'd always respected her, being made an enforcer so young. That, and he was definitely still embarrassed about the borage thing. He pushe dit to the back of his mind and cleared is throat, "looks like we're good to go." He led the way, heading back to camp.
Newtbelly made his way back to camp, quickly spotting Mistlewhisker. When he arrived, he briefly place the prey down. "Newleaf is treating the forest well. Prey is on the rise again." He gave a polite nod. "My patrolmates did a fine job, of course." He was used to giving a quick review of some apprentice's performances, usually some kind of 'thingypaw did well.' But, alas, no apprentices today. He would feel strange saying anyhting more on his grown clanmates' performance. Perhaps he wouldn't if they were cats known for being late - but this was the medicine cat, her aid, and a competent warrior.

"Little slow, weren't you, Rockface?"
Sleepysunrise pulled a lopsided grin as she whispered the quick few words to the stone-brain that was her aid. He always had such a stony expression, she wondered what for little pebbles were running amok in that pebble brain of his. She had an easy expression, a gust of air left through her nose, and quick as that she was gone. The medic padded ahead of her aid, remaining only a beat behind Newtbelly as he guided them back to camp. In camp, she swiftly went to deposit her prey on the prey pile while the enforcer reported, sparring them a quick glance in passing. Not before plucking a few feathers from the bird she'd killed at least, she wanted to keep those.
Briarsplash padded in with her patrol, looking disgruntled (more than usual, that is). Their quiet trip to Saltmeadow Marsh had taken a rather unexpected turn, and one she was not happy with. Her pelt was a bit messy and her brow was pinched, as if she'd been in some sort of scuffle.
"Some scum loner came and attacked us while we were on patrol," she huffed as she padded up to Mistlewhisker. "Came outta nowhere and went straight for Midnightclaw. Black cat with a front white paw, green eyes, scar over his left eye — probably blind." She lashed her tail, clearly fuming that he'd gotten away. "He was young, probably around a new warrior's age. Sorta familiar for some reason, but I didn't recognize him. I tried to catch him, but he got away and said that he and a group of others would be coming back soon to attack our camp. I chased him as far as the end of the border to make sure he'd gone."
Scowling, Briarsplash glanced back at Midnightclaw. "Midnightclaw took the most hits — they were locked in battle for awhile, and she fought well. I told her to go to Sleepysunrise and Silentpaw right after this, unless you've got any more questions."
It wasn't good news, and Briarsplash's gaze was both smoldering and sober as she met Mistlewhisker's eye. The she-cat knew not to take threats lightly (she'd been a roguish loner herself, in the past; Briar knew well how dangerous they could be) and was not happy about letting this one slip away.
The enby padded after Briarsplash, quickly sitting down, wincing in pain. She hissed under her breath. She should have chased after that loner. Why didn't she? Midnightclaw looked over at Mistlewhisker's waiting for her response.

Mistlewhisker padded into camp with Grottopaw and Houndpaw, pleased to see patrols were already on their way in. Mistlewhisker padded over to the Grimpeak and took up her usual post.
When Briarsplash and Midnightclaw came up to her, battered, the Deputy's tail lashed. If RiverClan was causing issues again, Mistlewhisker was content to massacre the lot of them and call it done. There are only so many times they can be lenient.
But the news Briarsplash delivered was not much better. A loner, claiming to have a cabal. Despite her irritation that not one but two warriors let the loner get away--a young one at that--she remained impossible to read. "See the medics." She addressed Midnightclaw. "Once you are dismissed, I want both of you to give a full report to Dawnstar." Better alert for no reason than lenient with a possible threat. She dismissed them with her tail as more patrols filtered in.
rookfire let out a low grunt, ears flicking, "alright lets head back." he'd originally intended to catch some more, but since mudslide had certainly pulled her weight, there was really no need to indulge them any more. it was about time to return anyway. the walk back was ordinary, not like he had expected anything else, mudslide didnt talk much and if shadowpaw decided to yap along, they could entertain themselves. as they re entered camp, rooks striped tail swishing with mild curiosity as he eyed the other cats. his group had certainly caught more than the average group would, much to his pleasure.
the enforcer waited his turn before stepping up to mistlewhisker, "all good, everyone did well" he mumbled around the prey still secured between his teeth before giving the deputy a nod and trotting off to deliver his catch.
"Nice rabbit Rookfire by the way." Shadowpaw said with a certain gleam in her eyes. She wanted to try a bit of rabbit herself also she hadn't ever tried to get a rabbit before. And hell, a nice compliment never hurt anyone. Thinking about it, her main diet was frogs. Perhaps if she ate enough she could leap like one...
Wildstorm followed her patrolmates back to camp wordlessly, giving a grunt of her own in return to Rookfire’s words. When they arrived, she deposited her catches with the rest of the patrol. She dipped her head respectfully to Mistlewhisker, waiting to be dismissed before leaving. But she figured Rookfire could handle the debriefing on his own, wasn’t like there was much to report anyway.
Mudslide was lagging behind when it came to the group, invested in the setting around her. It had been awhile since she'd been to Mourning Ruins, the last time she had was during a territory tour with Mosquitopaw. Regardless, the warrior approached the deputy with a steady gaze, holding her tail carefully low to the ground.
She showcased her kill before dropping it off at the pile.
Another full patrol. My, was today her lucky day? Mistlewhisker dismissed them swiftly.

"Good." Was all she said before moving to the next group.

Owlthroat strode back into camp with his jaws clenched around his catch, he tried to keep his mouth from salivating too hard. Unwittingly he’d worked up quite the appetite.
He dropped this on the freshkill pile before he approach Mistlewhisker, ”prey is beginning to pick up again, Cricketpaw did well to catch for the first time.” He retorted gruffly, offering a nod as the enforcer reported in. He thought about taking a feather from the magpie if it wasn’t gone by later to offer to Tuftedtusk for their nest.
Cricketpaw follows after Owlthroat cheerfully, a skip in his step that was even more noticeable from his usual gait. At least- maybe, it wasn’t like he ever walking calmly anywhere. Whatever- details, details. The tom stood beside the enforcer as he reported the patrol to the deputy, the mossy apprentice standing a little taller to showcase his toad as the other mentioned it before elaborated on the *epic* catch himself. “I caught it all by myself! Hazycry taught me how to hunt! See see!” The toad was once more shown off, his tail flicking with barely contained excitement.

hazycry padded into camp behind owlthroat and cricketpaw, carrying her catches, she walked over to the fresh-kill pile and dropped the rodents on it.
"i can take him back out have him catch another piece if you'd like, mistlewhisker," she dipped her head as she spoke, "he did rather well for just learning how to hunt, however"
As pleasing as it was to hear prey was picking up, Mistlewhisker was developing a bone she wanted to pick with the warriors here. This was not the first time she had put an apprentice on patrol only to learn that they'd never learned to hunt. What on earth were the mentors doing? But at least Cricketpaw didn't use his greenness as an excuse. Like someone last round. "Well done." Mistlewhisker said simply, then looked to Hazycry. "Build on his skills if you wish, but its not necessary for the patrol." The two-prey-per-cat was a precaution during leafbare to keep the pile up, but with prey coming back their stores were already bursting. She dismissed them with a flick of her tail.

slipping back into the camp, squirrelrise drops her catches off at the prey pile before glancing about the clearing. spotting the deputy, she pads over giving a small dip of her head. "everything..went well, we..caught a - a..decent amount..of prey. there is..a lot out now..with newleaf. she informs. she may or may not have stolen a feather or two from the raven she'd caught.
Scorpionpaw followed swiftly behind Squirrelrise, listening to her report from afar while dropping off her catches at the prey pile. Eventually, she'd make her way over to MistleMa and rub against her affectionately, waving her tail in the air in a friendly gesture. "I got all the prey! Did ya see it?!" She'd trilled, waiting for some type of praise before she'd end up distracted and padding away.
Foxpaw padded after the others, his own prey in maw. Squirrelrise had summed everything up, and the prey he'd caught spoke for itself anyway. He turned his catch in, taking a moment to cast a look of contempt at Scorpionpaw. It was frankly bizarre how differently they'd turned out. So loud. So... needy. Foxpaw was nothing like that. Foxpaw was different. Perhaps better. He didn't need to talk, and he didn't need anyone heaping praise upon him. Maybe that could be the thing that made him interesting.
Foxpaw would stick around just long enough for Mosstangle to arrive and to see if Mistlewhisker had anything of importance to say, and then he'd take off.
Another full patrol with a lot of prey. Mistlewhisker nodded to her older daughter as Scorpionpaw darted to her side, letting the apprentice rub against her chest. "I see." She rumbled. "You both did well." Her gaze traveled between Scorpionpaw and Foxpaw before moving to Squirrelrise and giving her a dismissive nod.
Quietmouth was proud of his small catch, he wasn't out long before he caught it. I guess the rest of my search was just unlucky. He padded after Newtbelly and did as they did; he placed his catch down and waited for a nod, then picked it up and brought it to the fresh-kill pile.

Hmm, she was feeling a bit tired today, head a bit up on the clouds, more so than normal. Her path was a little wobbly as she left the grey tom's side stand in the clearing's centre, having to call for patrols.
"Rookfire. Take Magpiecove and Mushroompaw to the general territory for marigold and uprooted chervil."
Still having some in store, she presented them with a visual example of both herbs in the order in which they were named.
"Hollowhawk -- take Honeyhowl and Vixenpaw to Darkwater Mire for cobwebs and moss."
Everyone knew what cobwebs and moss looked like... Right? She assumed so. Her tail flicked as she moved on.
"Newtbelly, you will be gathering borage and burdock rook in Dawning Woods with Roachflare and Silentpaw."
Her eye turned, looking for the medicine cat apprentice; a silent warning not to mess up again. As she spoke, she presented them with a visual example of both herbs.
"Briarsplash; take Hazycry and Emberpaw to Evergreen Grotto for lavender and horsetail."
She presented them an example of lavender, the stalk long and scent sweet. She blinked. "Horsetail is dark green, with a thick stem and bristled leaves. It has a refreshing smell."
"Squirrelrise, take Fishbite and Wispypaw to Mourning Ruins for blessed thistle and juniper berries."
She presented a visual example of each in turn, still having some left over from the last round of patrols. Perhaps she should get to drying these, they last longer then. But ah, she was tired right now. Hopefully these patrols would be swift and smooth going. She stifled a small yawn.

Those damn kits. (He loves kits) Always dying at the most unnecessary and random times, causing unnecessary sob parties. He hated it. He hated it so much. But he just had to be late for a patrol, so. Ha. That's on him.
"Checked." He deadpanned, approaching Sleepysunrise. "Nothing to report." He paused, waiting just in case the medicine cat had anything else to say. He'd learnt it the frustrating way the last time he'd just turned and left.
Another patrol. Wowee how fun. This time, actually, were two herbs that he was more familiar with. And with a cat he was more familiar with. His former mentor. Newtbelly. Silentpaw would never say it aloud, but he had immense respect for his former mentor. The calico tom had gotten him to where none of his other mentors could. He took Sleepysunrise's gaze as a warning. He wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Briarsplash was surprised to hear her name called for an herb patrol. Normally, she was always on border or hunting patrols. It wasn't really her style to poke at leaves and... stuff. Her large paws felt a bit too clumsy to be doing any of that.
But, her high rank had summoned her, and the Enforcer wasn't one to disobey direct orders. With a grunt of acknowledgement, the fluffy she-cat listened to Sleepysunrise's succinct description of the herbs. Lavender was pungent, easy enough to spot and find with that distinctive color. Horsetail... the description sounded familiar. Had that been what Rookfire had used, during the snake and rat extermination?
Actually, how would she even remember that? Maybe she was imagining things, because Briarsplash had certainly been delirious with all the blood she'd lost that day.
Anyway. She gave her medicine cat a curt nod in understanding before scanning the crowd for Hazycry and Emberpaw, not bothering to call out.
