< Aspenkit > " the crows in the garden are laughing at my expense "
she/they - 4 moons
They tipped their head slightly. Well, they finally got a read on this guy; awkward and too nice. It was an odd offer, Aspenkit could not see the warrior den being much quieter, except rather than kittens squealing and crying there would be incessant snoring and undoubtedly less comfy nests. Though she supposed she could bring the wool that lined her nest with her.. yeah no. The very fact she was considering the offer showed how tired she was.
Just as they were about to kindly decline the toms offer another cat came trotting over. Who was this one? She didnt look a whole lot older than Aspenkit themself, so probably a young apprentice? They must've shared the nursery with her not long ago, but to be frank; there was too many cats in the nursery for Aspenkit to recall every single kit. Hmmm.. the kit studied her for a moment longer before the name clicked. Raccoonpaw, right? Yeah that sounded right. A mix of sleep deprivation and general amount of cats in the clan made it a little harder to recall the apprentices name, but she got it in the end. "Something like that." in agreeance to Shademists response, and they gave her a small nod of 'good morning'. "same for you, or are you just an early riser?" she replied politely, yet half heartedly. Woah, this was probably the largest amount of strangers she'd spoken to in a long time. Extend that high-score from 1 to 2. Aspenkit was not a very social cat, they much preferred observing the clan go by rather than interacting with it, but they had picked up a social skill or two from just watching, thank the stars. Didn't stop them from wanting to now find an excuse to leave and go sleep, of course.
Maybe she should just take Shademists offer? It was a ticket out she supposed, not a great one but it was one. In an ideal world Aspenkit would have an entire den to herself, no noise, outside of maybe some rain or wind, and a very very comfy nest, but alas, this wasn't a Aspenkit built world.

Twilightstar lifted a whisker brow and stared long and hard at Strawberrypaw. The leader couldn't tell if the apprentice was just plain insolent or had a general problem with authority, or perhaps she just failed at listening. Regardless, she was getting very tired of cats not listening around here. She was often willing to cut apprentices some slack, but it was often a one-time thing and depended on what they had done wrong. Her attention is torn from the sister and over to the brother as Jaggedpaw talks. When the apprentice finishes, the leader's frown is deeper.
"Strawberrypaw, do not make me repeat myself. I do not enjoy having my orders ignored." Any other time, Twilightstar wouldn't have cared whether the sibling stayed to support her brother, but the whole ignoring thing was starting to become a real problem with some of the younger generation. Twilightstar had her principles to stand on lest her clanmates start walking all over her.
"Jaggedpaw, if I came up to you and told you I would have to change your name because one of the kits becoming an apprentice wanted your name, how would you feel?" Twilightstar asked, wanting him to take a moment and reflect there. She'd be rightfully upset if some random younger apprentice demanded she change her name, so she wouldn't fault Cardinalpaw with the shouting.
"Even though I understand what you were trying to do for Gnawingpaw, I don't condone it. What you should have done instead of confronting Cardinalpaw about his name is come and spoken to me. Aside from the fact that Cardinalpaw doesn't have the power to change his name unless I approve it, if you had spoken to me about it, I would have happily told you that your grief with Cardinalpaw is misguided since it wasn't Cardinalpaw who changed Gnawingpaw's name." The young kit that had spoken to her in her den all those moons ago had seemed rather thoughtful and insightful.
"And I had planned to return her original name to her after she becomes a warrior. Just because I take away a cat's name during their apprenticeship doesn't mean I won't return it when they earn their warrior name." It was frustrating to know that this whole spat could have been avoided with a quick chat with the leader. Even though she admires the strong bond these siblings had for each other, when it starts to turn into family against clan, that becomes a big problem for Twilightstar.
So it was Cardinalpaw who had started the fight, and Jaggedpaw finished it. They were both getting into trouble for it, she just needed to determine how much now. "Where did he hit you?" She asked, eye scanning for any signs of blood on Jaggedpaw. She'd get into the whole biting/hitting thing after this.
@burntToast [Jaggedpaw - So, considering how the chat is going, don't worry about Jaggedpaw being exiled. He'll still be getting punished, but nothing as extreme as exile.]
@Rose [Strawberrypaw - You can have her stay if you want, but Twilight will likely slap on a punishment for insubordination.]

Twighlightstar’s attention briefly turned to his strawberrypaw as she scolded his sister for not leaving like she had instructed. Jaggedpaw would have preferred his sister to be allowed to stay but even he knew the importance of not defying a leader's direct orders- that's how the hierarchy of power worked after all. Twighlightstar had earned her rank as leader and thus by default Jaggedpaw respected the old she cat. ”I'm fine straw, I don't need you to stay” he said bumping his older sister with his shoulder, it was mostly a lie but he didn't want her to get into trouble just because he wanted moral support.
When the leader turned her attention back to him and asked him a question he hadn't thought of well he was momentarily at a loss for words. It would be different if some random kid wanted his name, he was the only Jaggedpaw! One and only and the best! No one could take his name, he wouldn't allow it. He supposed it must be the same for cardinalpaw and if he had actually thought about it he would have realized how dumb he'd been to just believe Cardinaloaw would forfeit his name easily. However, Jaggedpaw was biassed and still believed his sister deserved the name more but he had no way to argue with the logic behind what Twighlightstar had said. Jaggedpaw bowed his head as the leader continued to speak, not from shame but more so the embarrassment.
Jaggedpaw waited to be shouted at or to be exiled or something extreme along those lines but nothing came. When he did look up again Twighlightstar asked him where he had been hit. Jaggedpaw blinked for a second comprehending what she was asking before actually understanding! Stupid slow brain. If he remembers correctly and he did!- cardinalpaw had hit him just above his head. The apprentice's aim must suck if he missed Jaggedpaw's head completely without the speckled apprentice moving at all. Aggedpaw got that some people cuffed each other over the ears when being playful but cardinalpaw had be growling, hissing, shouting and that “cuffing” hadn't felt at all playful to him. If anything it had been an attack. ”Here. My head– or more like my ears.” Jaggedpaw said, demonstrating by tapping his head with his paw.

it's still cold as heck..!! however, it's getting warmer, and that's good enough for egretpaw. the snow's practically all gone, so she figures that must mean newspring-- wait, no. that's not right. what's it called again..?, she wonders, face scrunching up in concentration. new..something. well, anyway! the name doesn't matter, all she knows is that she's excited for the warmer months, because that means tons of flowers! maybe papa, gracks, and uncle crows could all go into the territory together sometime.
she'd say crowy but.. she hasn't seen him around in a bit. which is weird. he's always around.
brushing the thoughts away, blue eyes dance around the camp, searching for someone to talk to. within moments, she's on her paws and making a bee-like for a fellow apprentice - coldpaw, one of miss twillystar's kits! she does, in fact, look like miss twillystar, too, in egret's opinion. though, coldpaw always has her eyes closed. anywho,,oooops, she should probably speak up now! "hiya, coldpaw!!" she chirps, a wide grin on her maw as she attempts to bump her shoulder against the molly's in a friendly manner.

[ 7 moon | She / Her | Wc Tunneller Apprentice | Heightened Perception: Touch ]
Startle.
Coldpaw's fur spiked up at once, suddenly feeling an unfamiliar shoulder bump into hers and a voice piped up next to her ear. She looked absolutely shocked, skidding aside and angling her ears around as it was some perceived threat - there were always so many cats walking around the clearing, she didn't always feel them arrive; Egretpaw was one of the many the slipped past her not-so-tight defences and surprised her while in thought (she had been pondering whether she was hungry or not, and if she should ask someone to take her hunting. Maybe mumma).
But, back on topic. Coldpaw forced her fur flat, her cheeks puffing up just a little as she realised the show she must have made... How embarrassing. Her ears angled around, and her paws shuffled over the ground a little, suddenly self-conscious of where she was and what she looked like, while trying to pretend nothing ever happened. "Hi,,,"
She began to speak. "Erm. You're...? Ah, uhm."
Oopsie daisies, she still couldn't tell apart her clanmates. "Hi."
She just repeated, at a loss for words.

Pacing around her nest until it was practically flattened, Bravekit let out a small mrrow of frustration. Ugh, she should be an apprentice by now- like her siblings. The only attention she was going to get from Twilightstar at this rate was negative...not that it mattered to Bravekit, really. Bad publicity is still publicity. However, it wouldn't necessarily hurt for it to be good.
Ah, whatever. It was no use moping around here- nope! She's going to go bug her siblings, whether they liked it or not. They were family, after all!
Exiting the nursery and bounding over to the apprentices den, the she-cat whisked herself inside, not caring if she trod on any tails or not. "Coldpaw! Raccoonpaw!" She whined, plopping dramatically on the ground. "Teach me what you've learned so far! It's so boring being stuck in the nursery."
Raccoonpaw looked up as Bravekit bounded into the den, her tail flicking in quiet amusement. She’d been carefully inspecting the remains of a small bird she'd found earlier, clearly fascinated by the way its feathers had begun to decay, but she wasn’t going to make a big deal of it. Not yet. "Stuck in the nursery, huh?" she said, her voice calm but with a hint of understanding. "Yeah, I get it. It’s not as exciting as being an apprentice." She padded over to her sister, glancing at the bones she’d been studying. “I could show you some things. Like how to tell what’s happened to a dead creature just by looking at its body. It’s kind of... interesting. You can figure out a lot about an animal’s life from the way it looks once it’s gone. There’s a lot to learn from them, really.” Raccoonpaw’s gaze softened as she looked at Bravekit. “If you want, I could teach you how to track scents, or even how to spot where an animal might have died. It’s something I’ve picked up from watching and studying... you know, remains. Not exactly what you’d learn from a regular warrior’s training, but it can help you understand the forest in a way others don’t.” She gave a small shrug, not sure if Bravekit would find it as fascinating as she did, but she was offering nonetheless. "If you’re not scared of that sort of thing, I could show you some of my favorite places to find... interesting things. There’s more to being a warrior than just the fighting part."
Coldpaw

"Bravekit!"
Coldpaw exclaimed hearing her sister's voice, head turning around from where she'd been sitting with Raccoonpaw. Her ears swivelled, only mildly interested in what Raccoonpaw was saying. Because, well, she couldn't exactly visually study the same things, and yet she felt a little jealous hearing all that her sister had already learned. Coldpaw had only learned the basics so far, and some tunnelling.
She turned around and seated herself besides the two, listening for an opening in the conversation. The youngest of the litter felt a bit small between their two massive personalities, but she enjoyed the time spent with her siblings anyway. Even if she wanted to tease Raccoonpaw for her interests (lovingly), she held her well-behaved façade. "I could show you a hunter's crouch,, I think."
Coldpaw mused after a moment, getting up and awkwardly leaning down into what she believed to be a hunter's crouch. Her paws were too wide apart and her frame dipped too low while her haunches were too high, but the apprentice was trying.

Boohoo, you try walking around the clearing on your own once and immediately get lost. Great job, Cold! You're sooooo smart. Well, she did know the clearing far better by now. She had wandered it a lot these days, while her siblings were out and she wanted some air. But someone (her) decided to challenge her horrible sense of orientation and circle herself several times until she felt dizzy and the world felt like it was turning around her. Now she was dizzy, disoriented and - indeed - she couldn't tell where anything was anymore.
So this left Coldpaw with a dilemma. Remain centre-clearing until one of her siblings found her and she could leech onto their side, and make them take her somewhere until she felt better, or try and figure this mess out by herself. Obviously, Coldpaw chose the second option, and promptly moved up to her paw and began walking straight ahead. Or at least, in as straight a line as she could manage.
Her path was wobbly and un-even, courtesy or her previous pirouettes, and of course it was only a matter of time before she quite literally ran into someone's backside. Someone that didn't feel much bigger than her, and held the scent of the smelly apprentice's den. Her nose crinkled but she stubbornly remained put, attempting to push herself up against the stranger of a cat. Whatever, they were an apprentice, it was fine. "I'm lost."
She stated blankly. In other words, "it's your problem now, because I'm not leaving your side".

Right, last scouting patrol had been a methodological disaster. Two members had vanished immediately and down in numbers rather then able to be alert and having someone on watch the entire patrol was set to investigate. As such, the dog had taken Crowtooth by total surprise.
It hadnt ended poorly, for all the disaster in one aspect the patrol was shockingly lucky. The dog was friendly, there was sheep but wool for nests, and the barn held mice.
Any luck and the next patrol would continue that trend, showing signs of a farm windclan could live with and didnt even need to get rid of, or one weak and that just needed a hard shove to topple. Either was nice, please and thank you starclan.
But to get that news he needed a scouting patrol, and with that patrol came risks to the cats involved. So the thought of who had been long but hopefully he wasnt making any poor decisions...... "Hawkfur! Yer up, its time buddy I gave ya the run down already. Vinesmoke, Dreamlight, Moorsong, an' Littlepaw! Gather up for a special assignment, Ill give ya the details though Hawk here is gonna be handlin' yall."
Strawberrypaw would really rather prefer not leave her brother's side. But Twilightstar was telling her to and so was Jags, and she didn't have much of a reason to go against either - much less both. And while usually Strawberrypaw was entirely socially tone deaf, her attention snags on her leader finally. Oh. Her very disapproving leader. A slow blink is the quickest wordless apology she can muster before backing up out of hearing distance and giving them the space that'd been requested.
Well ain't that easy. All she had to do was command a demand or two and her mentor readily accepted it. And that alone made Rookpaw a little giddy- to be able to start her training the day she got apprenticed. At the very least, she can somewhat guarantee herself a good mentor who's willing to teach. Oh, the horror stories you'd hear of mentors abandoning their apprentice...and with the recent exiles and reassignments, it sounded very true.
The slender she-cat made her way to the clearing where Thornbid had mentioned. Her mismatched eyes darted around for a cleared out space before waiting for her mentor to begin.

Okay. First apprentice, ey really doesn't know what other mentors do, since ey isn't clanborn.
Well, ey had to try. Passing eir wisdom to a younger fellow, ey was starting to see it ain't as simple as it seemed.
The scarred warrior approached Rookpaw and collected a pile of nearby pebbles, making sure to grab the blunt-looking ones.
Ey then sat next to them and spoke. "I will be teaching you an essential skill, probably one that'll keep you alive in the harshest battles."
Ey made a pause before adding, "I'll be teaching you how to dodge blows."
Probably not the most exciting thing, but even the strongest fighter and the best strategist should know how to sidestep from an opponent's swipes. "Ready when you are."
