Default Swooping in from above [p]

Burningpaw

He needed like 50 different synonyms for "excited" to describe how he felt right now. The little version of Burningpaw with devil horns and a pointy tail above Burningpaw's shoulder tempted him to saunter ahead of the patrol like he was leading it (the one with the halo protested but somewhat noncomitally, as if he wasn't against the idea all that much).

Out in the territory, Burningpaw realized something. Uh oh. Oh no. No uh. H e h a d n t h a d a s i n g l e h u n t i n g l e s s o n. Of course, he didn't show this. He made up an excuse that he'd managed to get his nose rubbed in a patch of violet at just the right angle to disable his sense of smell for the whole day, and couldn't track down any prey. Of course, he still stayed on the patrol because who cares if he couldn't hunt NATURE IS BEAUTIFUL AND HE WAS GOING TO SEE ALL OF WINDCLANS TERRITORY, BELIEVE IT!

Vinesmoke
15 Moons
He/Him

Vinesmoke stayed a few tail lengths behind the group his blue eyes flickering around. The sky was dimmer than usual though that may just be him. Ever since the clan meeting things had been rocky..he missed Owlpaw and he missed wildfire. He didn’t know how to patch things up he didn’t know how to fix the situation he had apologized but even then it wasn’t enough he was brushed off though it was a fair reaction it still Didnt mean he wasn’t hurting his nightmares had grown more frequent and the lack of sleep was finally catching up with him the grass around him seemed to sway and stretch he quickly tired to brush of the sleepiness. His gaze then fell on burningpaw who was practically bouncing from excitement. He remembered his first hunting patrol it had been with crowtooth hunting moles an experience nonetheless he then looked over at the other warrior he had never met the other cat but he still held respect finally he looked at Owlpaw he never understood why his heart always seemed to speed up. His heart seemed to speed up for both wildfire and her..he had no clue how to explain it and with his only confidant gone he was completely lost he fell into step besides Owlpaw keeping pace how to start this..”Hello..How are you?” Starclan how to fix this “I know I already apologized but I’m truly sorry for passing out..I know things have been a bit rocky and well with leechscar wanting my head on a spike”he laughed awkwardly

Patrol! Yay! First one since her revival, lets goooo!! Owlpaw trotted along with the occasional stumble, thinned flanks heaving and flexing with each step. The feline stood a little ways from Stormy since her old cat friends said NOT to talk to him too soon. She didn't wanna make them angry... not really since they'd seemed pleased enough to see her return."Burn!! 'S this your first p'trol?" Chirped Aubs cheerfully, gently reaching out her muzzle to give him a tiny boop on his haunch with her snout. She didn't know how many patrols she'd been on unfortunately but more than one she was certain. Like.. two. or three. She slowed down a bit since she felt her limbs grow a little wobbly. That meant take a quick break then try again. However, Vinesmoke slipped into pace beside her and Owlpaw didn't know what to say really since she didn't wanna be a bully (like bushes were. CURSE ALL BUSHES.) and so she sorta didn't pay much attention other than a flick of her ear to show she noticed.

How are you? "Very v'ry alive." She declared with a tiny hop in the air just enough so that she didn't lose her balance, deciding to act like she would with any other cat. Then he apologized. Man, bushes were spiky too. Uhhhm. No, no, this was not about bushes. " 's okay. buuuut not. but is! but isn't. It's complicated." Owlpaw decided since it seemed a little difficult to explain which wasn't her cup of mouse. "Jumper doesn't want t' put y'r head on a stick. But he gets a l'l mad sometimes. M' real' happy though cause he PURRED!! when he saw m'!! So he can't b' mean. He missed meee!! But I sorta felt sad 'cause I couldn't find Breezy- Deadmoon 'nywhere n' you... kinda passed out n' that's not a happy reaction... n' Lightningstorm n' him said y'r not really good for me r' now so m' not really s'pposed to be talkin' t' you right now, sorry." She chattered on, ending with an apologetic and meek smile.

Burningpaw

His tail flicked back and forth wildly. "Yeah!!! My very first patrol!!!" He cheered, when Owlpaw asked him. "I CAN BARELY BELIEVE IT but im gonna be a good apprentice so im STAYING CALM!!!" He pranced onward, head bobbing up and down cheerfully. There were so many new things. New scents... but familiar ones too. Under the tangle of earthy mud and sprouting greenery, he could detect the comforting smell of MOUSE. HECK YEAH WATCH THIS. He paused the last second before he began tracking it. Oh. Wait he wasn't supposed to be able to smell. Well, uhm, guess what he has really good hearing because of the violets, too!! Yeah. He kept that explanation in the back of his head incase anyone on the patrol asked him, and began to hunt his prey.

The mouse was surprisingly far away. It was huge. The plumpest in all the land, from the looks of it. Burningpaw grinned to himself. He was going TO CATCH IT and then HE'D BE LIKE A HERO!!!!! But beneath his paws, in the shadows of the undergrowth, a rebellion brewed. Something dark brooded a plan to take down what Burningpaw was desirous of. That something...

... being A TWIG. (dun dun DUUUUNNNNNNN)

It snapped, brittle and loud beneath his paws. The mouse froze. But its cryostasis lasted only for a moment, before it zoomed, as fast as lightning mcqueen, away, away, far out of sight.

Burningpaw sighed. THAT went well. He knew it might be a tad bit too early to get agitated, but his tail lashed with annoyance despite that. Was hunting always like this? He pondered related questions as he made his way back to the group. "I-It got away..." Burningpaw said once he could see the others, stopping his voice from hiccuping. "Honestly, it wa-!" Its wings were silent, completely and utterly soundless up until the moment a shadow engulfed him and talons gripped his shoulders. A single one of the horned owl's wings were as big as Burningpaw himself. He yelped in fright as suddenly, he was jerked up into the air, and more and more as the owl beat its wings. He'd never seen an owl, no, but if he had he would've known that this one was huge.

Fear gripped him nearly as tight as the birds talons, his wide eyes watching the ground below shrink and shrink. His brain was unable to think, too focused on the current situation. Had to try to stay alive. The trees of Sunset Grove were about as large as most of his forearm, if he held it out to compare. The wind rushed past him, trying to rip him out of the owl's grasp, which would only serve to doom him to fall to the ground below. This type of fear felt a bit like a twisted version of exhilaration, but it made his lungs feel smaller. More compressed. But he still screamed, shrieked as loud as he could. Nobody could help him, but he didn't care.

Eventually, the owl faltered. It made his heart skip a beat, the violent shift downwards, the ground coming closer for just a moment. The owl wasn't used to carrying prey this large. It drooped lower, and lower, but it was still all too high for Burningpaw's liking when it couldn't hold on any longer, and released its hold on him.

He plummeted. Everything sped up, but at the same time slowed down. The fear was nearly choking him, coating him in a cold sweat. His eyes felt heavy for some reason, and dizziness pounded his skull, as though it was trying to crack it in half. His tail righted him automatically, but as he reached the ground what felt like only half a second later, he heard a horrible crack sound coming from his front left paw. The pain came half a second later, as the rest of his body came slamming down on the ground. It seared all over him, though the feeling felt as though it was going to make his left ankle explode right off. The pain gripped his heart, and wouldn't let go. The sounds around him felt too loud, but they were slowly dimming, along with all else he could sense around him. He thought he saw the shaded figure of the owl slowly descending towards him, but it faded. Everything faded. His consciousness reached a full stop.

[ @Tallstar - Vinesmoke!! @Blaaze - Owlpaw!!

Its here!!!! So the owl going to hone in on Burningpaw, and hes been dropped near its nest, which for plot convenience Owlpaw and Vinesmoke followed the owl flyin off with Burningpaw but lost him, though from where they wound up they can track him by scent. The owl will be too focused on Burningpaw, so they get a surprise attack, which is the main factor of them winning da fight.

Hopefully this is alright!!! VM me if not please and i'll come up with something else! <3333 ]

Vinesmoke
15 Moons
He/Him
Tunneler

Vinesmoke was quiet for a while. Not cold—just holding it all in too tightly. When he spoke, his voice was low, measured, like he was trying not to let it crack. “…It was a big deal.” He didn’t look at her yet. His ears twitched, and his tail flicked once behind him. “You came back. From the dead, Owlpaw. That’s not something anyone knows how to handle—not really. I didn’t. I still don’t.”Then he exhaled, a bit sharper than before, and his gaze dropped to his paws. “But I didn’t think I’d be treated like I did something wrong for reacting. Like—Leechscar acted like I was just being dramatic. That I should’ve just smiled and gotten over it.” His voice stayed soft, but there was a simmering tightness under the words now. He shook his head slightly. “I’m not angry at you. Not even a little. But it… hurt. To see you, to feel everything all at once—and then be told I’m not good for you. That I shouldn’t be near you.” Finally, he looked at her, and though his expression was composed, his eyes were heavy with something raw. “I care about you. And I’m glad you're here. But pretending it didn’t shake the whole world when you came back? That’s not something I know how to do. And maybe I shouldn’t have to.”

He glanced away again, ears angling back. “But if staying away is what keeps things calm for you, I’ll do it. I just… wish that wasn’t the answer.” Before he could say another thing Vinesmoke heard the snap of wings behind him, but it didn’t register until it was too late. “No.” He froze. His fur stood on end, blood running cold. He whipped around just in time to see Burningpaw flailing in the air, a huge shadow looming above him. The owl’s claws were sinking deep into his shoulders as it jerked him upward, lifting the young apprentice into the sky. “BURNINGPAW!” Vinesmoke’s voice cracked, raw with terror. “NO—” His legs were already moving before his mind could catch up, panic flooding his chest, but the owl’s wings were beating too fast. It was too high, too far—he couldn’t get there in time. “NO, NO, NO!” He watched, helpless, as the owl’s wings beat harder, carrying Burningpaw away from him. The shadow disappeared among the trees, and then— A sickening crack of something breaking. Vinesmoke felt his heart drop into his stomach. “No!” He shoved his way through the underbrush, his breath ragged. The forest blurred as he ran. “Burningpaw—please—please!” He barely made it a few steps before the scent hit him. Blood. The acrid, metallic tang of it. He stopped dead in his tracks, choking on air as the ground beneath him seemed to tilt. “Burningpaw…” He whispered the name, as if saying it aloud would make everything better. But it didn’t. He found the damn owl. He slowly dropped into a hunters crouch ready to pounce like crowtooth had taught him aiming for the wings he leaped. He snapped and cling onto the owl claws sinking into the birds back (rolled a 17) aiming for the throat he tried his best to land a killing blow eventually the bird stopped moving but not after giving Vinesmoke deep scratches in his sides but his pain was quickly forgotten at the sight that layed before him.

Burningpaw was crumpled on the ground. The sight hit him like a blow to the chest. The apprentice lay still, his tiny chest rising in slow, shallow breaths. His left leg was bent unnaturally, a horrible angle that made Vinesmoke’s stomach churn. Blood soaked the forest floor beneath him. “Oh Starclan… what have I done…” Vinesmoke’s voice was barely more than a whisper, the words strangled in his throat. His eyes were wide, his heart hammering in his chest as he stood frozen, unable to move for a moment. His mind was swirling, panic gripping him so tightly it felt like he might choke on it. “I—I should’ve stopped it.” His voice cracked as his chest squeezed tight with guilt. “I—I should’ve known. I should’ve seen it coming.” He closed his eyes, shaking his head as if the motion could make the weight of his failure disappear. He crouched beside Burningpaw, not daring to touch him, as if the boy would shatter under his paws. “I’m cursed. This is all my fault.” The words came out in a tortured rush. “Every time… every time I try to help, I just—I just break everything.”

Vinesmoke’s eyes filled with something close to anguish. He didn’t want to feel like this. He didn’t want to be the one who caused pain. Not for Burningpaw. Not for Owlpaw. Not for anyone. He swallowed hard, forcing himself to breathe. It didn’t matter. Not now. He couldn’t let this be the end He couldn’t lose another friend . Not like this. He leaned down, barely above whisper. “You’re not alone. You hear me? I’m not going to let you go, Burningpaw. I’m going to get you out of here. I swear it.” The silence pressed in on him, the weight of the forest around him closing in. But he spoke again, quieter now, as if trying to convince himself. “I’ll fix this… I have to..” he quickly turned shouting for Owlpaw like he did when he foundt her dead but then it had been Deadmoon who he cried out for

@Blaaze @Myling (let me know
If I should edit this if you wanted the owl battle to draw in longer vine has had owl take down training and based on your description a trainee warrior could take it down if you want the owl to fight back when Owlpaw arrives im good with that)

At Burningpaw's enthusiasm, Owlpaw grinned broadly. "I looooved m' first patrol!!" she Exclaimed, feeling too old for her body for a moment before falling in step with Vinesmoke [because her owner sucks at chronology]. As he spoke, the easily-influenced ginger Molly felt kinda... bad. For him."It'll cool off. All th' stuff. Always does. Then it'll b' bright n' good again, promise! N' y' don't have t... go away. Just... take 't slow. 'S okay. 'M not really holding a grudge 'nymore. Just got kinda sad." Owlpaw reassured while Vinesmoke spoke for a bit until he stopped, and she finished her statement before turning to Burn. " 's okay! I c'n show y' how I hun-- WAGAHFDUCK!!"

Perhaps not the most heroic words to ever escape her mouth but the ginger feline lunged forward to shove Burning paw out of the way of the owl's talons only a moment too late, and Owlpaw went tumbling down a hill before righting herself. "BURN!" She shrieked, sprinting after the bird ferociously. Aubs racked her brain for her kit years when Bigcat killed the owl. Wings. She went for the wings. But first she had to fight the owl.. uhhhh. It was like. high up. Oh well, she had to try. Owlpaw continued to race after the bird, panting at the shrieking pain in her muscles. "G'... for... wings!! WINGS!!" She yowled to her companion once she remembered through gasping pants. "On back.. neck!" She had left a scratch on the owl she had been attacked by in youth. This owl would get more than a scratch.

"Watch this, Ward'ns." She hissed through gritted teeth, about to lunge as the owl-- BURNBURNBURNBURN IS FALLING HES FALLING CATCH HIM!! Nope, he's on the ground. As Vinesmoke handled the enemy, Owlpaw dashed to the littler cat. "Burn, can y' hear me?" She asked, ignoring Vinesmoke for the most part, looking the cat over. What would Plant Whisp'rer do? Hmm. Examine the cat. Okay, Aubs could do that. She carefully looked over the apprentice's bloody pelt. Oh no, his leg. Ouch. That would hurt. Distractedly, she spoke to Vinesmoke. "Not dead. Not y'r fault. Our fault. Should'a watched. Didn't. 'So'kay. We can fix 'im. Bring 'im t' Plant Whisp'rer. WHOAWHOAWHOAWHOA" She cried out hurriedly as Vinesmoke began seemingly losing his head.

Owlpaw gently bopped him with one paw, a nudge harsh enough to unstable but not to hurt. Oh. He was bleeding. "You're hurt. I'll carry him. Look 't me." Had to get him calm so he could help. Yeah. WHY DID SHE KNOW ALL OF THIS. Owlpaw locked her eyes on Stormy's blue ones. "Stormy. 's okay. we got him. Put 'm on m' back." She said firmly, stubbornly, fiercely. She had this. It was Aubs time! She had to help lots of cats. That was her life purpose. So she would assist where needed, even if sadly she didn't get to beat up an owl. Oh, she didn't know how to fight, either. Oooops. She critically looked at the black feline's wounds before crouching down to try and nudge the injured Burn onto her own shoulders to little prevail. "Gimme a paw?" Owlpaw asked hopefully.
