➢ The agony. The loss and moving forward. It rotted Hollowpaw from inside out. It did not bring a sense of achievement, only the final pillar crashing down as the weight of grief crumbled on top of her. The cut still stung and it looked as if maybe, by some miracle, a scab was formed over it's jagged appearance. It was one she was grateful for but it had taken far too long, six moons too late. Hollowpaw scoffs at herself, a pitiful attempt to gather her thoughts as they approached the Warrior's resting spot.

Hazycry, they seemed good enough to do what Hollowpaw would request of them. A faint tang of fear caught itself on her lips but she clawed it's throat in a blood mess as they speak, tone carrying hints of exhaustion and distant confidence. "Hazycry. A request. I require a Warrior assessment and would like to have you complete it, if you would ever honor me." Husky voice grabbing the calicos attention enough to grant it. Bothering Hawkbite would be pointless, he had a new Apprentice to teach.

her eyes were closed, not that she could see out of them anyway. her ears flicked from side to side, listening. she turned her head to face pawsteps approaching her. so many apprentices wanted something from her lately, it was... rewarding, she must admit. this one, hollowpaw, wanted an assessment. she nodded, "alright. come." she got to her paws and shook out her pelt, flicking her tail for hollowpaw to follow.

once they were in the territory, she crept into the shadows, pawsteps silent and scent non-existent. "hunt. two pieces of prey. then we spar. i will be watching, well, listening." was hunting not a part of the assessments? why should a cat not know how to hunt as a warrior? hazycry focused her hearing on hollowpaw and her pawsteps.

➢ Hollowpaw nods, silently addressing any of her own concerns by ripping them to pieces as they await Hazycry. Hunting the first up and they're not surprised. Wolfhunter had done the minimum and it had counted enoughhhhh for them. Hollow again nods, her tail raised ever so slightly to grasp a sense of the winds direction. The Apprentice watches from the corner of her eye as the Warrior disappears into the inky blackness of the shadows.

Blue and amber eyes scan the area, pine forest the only thing she is able to see and a stab of fear rips through her pelt for a moment, they manage to calm as their nose goes into action. Settling the brewing anxiety in her heart. Stick to the norm. Keep to your instincts. The Apprentice takes a second to open her mouth so she can grasp the scent of prey. North.

Her tail flicks in that direction and she disappears into the shadows. Careful to avoid being spotted and grabs sight of the two vole that sit in a small patch of grass. Blue and amber gaze locked onto the one on the right. The other was surely flee, what direction? Likely the direct opposite that Hollowpaw would approach, the Apprentice switches her placement, hidden within the brush as they plot out how to quickly slaughter the other. Her moves are swift. Pouncing forwards with a powerful spring on her left front paw and slamming the right down onto the back of the first vole.

As she suspected, the other ran. To it's burrow? That would be a death wish? It had to be smarter than that, no. These creature didn't think that far. Within the heartbeats that it took her to process it all the vole had made the distance between them about a fox length. It was fast. Hollowpaw would be faster.

Leaving the corpse behind in a flash of movement, she sheds the shadows. Chasing after the remaining critter and closing the distance within a few steps, jaws gaining her another kill as she grabbed the end of the tail and flings the vole into the air. Letting it hit the ground with a thud and let out an agonizing noise as Hollow ends its suffering with a bite to the neck. She picks it up fully and they return to the crushed corpse she left behind.

Hollowpaw sets it down, looking around for the Warrior that had joined her. The blood from the bite coating her mouth and teeth in a faint crimson. "Done. What's next." She mews blankly, husky voice hopefully grabbing Hazycry for their next task.

she kept her ears pricked as she listened for hollowpaw, who had rather quickly caught two voles. "good. but try not to slam your paws too hard on the smaller prey next time, you dont want to be eating shards of bone, do you?" her voice rang out from the shadows, before she crept out of them. "spar." she lowered herself into a defensive position. "try to keep your claws in."

➢ The Apprentice nodded at the feedback, there was no need to verbalize her understanding. Her eyes quickly move to the Warriors face, the scar that coated her face grabbing their attention. How did that happen? A fragile spot? No. She had to be blind in that one, the damage looked to severe. That meant Hazycry would be good at her other sense, as well as fully adapted to such an injury too. Hollowpaw was frozen as she scanned over the other eye, quick to begin circling the Warrior slowly. The other eye was the same.

It wasn't covered in any scar tissue as it makes Hollow wonder. Was she born blind? Did a non-scarring injury cause it. It all led back into her having to re-think and plan out a different way of attack. Hazycry would surely feel any air that she pushed around with their weight shift. This also meant any vibrations and turns in her attacks would be detected. Plan One. Swift and hard. Give a false sense of her plan then change last second. Confuse and strike.

That would have to work until Hollowpaw thought of a better idea.

Hollowpaw sighs loudly as they finish circling for the second time. Too slow. Move. Hollow shifted her weight to the left, taking a step forwards before cutting off the next bout of movement and flinging herself to the right, into Hazycry. The Apprentice wants to slam her paws into the Warrior's, aiming to make her lose even the smallest amount of balance. It would better her plan. Confuse. Strike.

Blue and amber eyes also aim to meet the Warrior's cloudy ones, was it to confirm her suspicions? Comfort the idea that their plan could possibly work? Prove that all that thinking was worth something? Her head moving a mile a minute and it had no plans of stopping until someone or something forced it to shut down.

she listened as the apprentice circled her, studying her. in a real fight, you wont have time to do that. she thought as she flicked her ears from side to side, hollowpaw's pawsteps were loud, at least to her.

[rolled a 16! dodge!]

as the apprentice ran towards her, she didn't move out of the way until she heard the change in movement from them. it was quite easy to read hollowpaw's tactic. "the longer you read your opponent, the longer they can read you" as she moved, she aimed to strike hollowpaw's shoulder with her paw.

➢ She missed. She actually missed. Hollowpaw fears a spike of fear rip through her inner structure instantly. It struck down her plan in a single moment. It came crumbling down as the world slowed and the final bit of rubble shook her core. The Apprentice lands with a soft thud, Hazycry’s words cutting through the storm in a harsh wave. A searchlight in the fog. The more time she studied, the more time she lost and they would pay for such a mistake. Hollowpaw nods, afraid anything verbal would show her lack of confidence in the situation. Her paws remain firm on the ground. Rethink. Restart. Keeping moving, keep her on the edge. Hollowpaw doesn’t have a plan, thinking would waste too much time in between attacks.

Eyes glued on the Warrior as an unseen assault hit her shoulder. The scarred surface stinging with surprise as she twists to face the older cat. Surge and think later. Hollow pushes off her left feet, aiming to push past the paw that struck her and slam all of her weight into the Warrior’s chest. If it succeeded then she aims to have her own paw collide with Hazycry, using her left paw to hit the face of the blind calico. Petty but hey, Hollowpaw was known for it.

her tail swayed slowly as she awaited another attack, whiskers twitching in anticipation. she was in too close to dodge the tackle, but she barely moved from it, and hazycry's whiskers were touched, a paw to the face, sly, she couldnt see it but she moved her head and attempted to grab hollowpaw's paw with her maw, without damaging it.

➢ Move. You have to move. You missed…..? Oh? Partly?? Hollowpaw’s expression twitched for a moment, her lip flicking up to express confusion as she withdrew their paw. Pulling it back to land. The Apprentice regains her balance. Don’t think. Just go! Move! Black and white pelt already in motion to attack the Warrior’s side as they banked right. Aiming to lunge underneath and get her maw around the fur of the Warrior’s soft underbelly. The tackle did nothing of worth so she’d have to go in from below, but that also meant leaving herself exposed…

hollowpaw had quickly absorbed her words, it appeared, as they had dodged and thought quickly, hazycry, on the other paw, didnt expect the agility from the apprentice, as she felt teeth gently close around her underbelly. "alright, alright. thats enough. you passed." if hollowpaw didnt let go, she would attempt to shove her face into the dirt with one of her hind paws.
