Starrypaw hesitantly stepped inside Berryshine's den. Just a little bit.
She stopped to overthink again, because her anxiety was spiking up to the sky; but she had no other choice.
She had a few willow trees still woven in her pelt, coming from her nest in the apprentices' den. In her mouth she held a small hermit crab shell, a silly trinket she used to take around with her when she felt insecure and needed to find courage.
She put it briefly, gently on the ground and scanned the den. Berryshine was there.
"Uhm... Hello.." She murmured, her blue eyes almost black in the darkness of that place. Did she even see when she worked? Starrypaw herself felt blind right now.
No reply came out at first. Come on, Starrypaw... this is your chance! Just do it! She desperately needed to do it, not because she was starving from the lack of fish on the prey pile, but because her hunting lesson was nearing and she didn't want to flee from it.
"Uhm.. I have... a problem. With.. blood..." The words seemed to disappear into the cave, but the last one still gave her quivers. She forced her tail to stay still and swallowed.
But what could even a medicine cat do for that?
Berryshine frowned; she repeated the process a few more times, noticing that Flutterkit only ever responded when spoken to. No visual stimuli response... by now, she'd encountered enough blind cats to know what that meant.
She glanced over at Splashcloud with a soft sigh. "I-I'm sorry, Splashcloud..." There was no other better way to say it. Sympathy clouded her green eyes, her voice quieting to speak directly to the queen. "But... I believe Flutterkit is blind. I-If this is just something that might go away in time, that's up to StarClan, but... t-there seems to be nothing else wrong except that she just can't see."
[/SPOILER]
Splashclouds stomach flipped. no! She collapsed onto the floor of the den, overcome with grief. How could StarClan do this to me? She thought sorrowfully.

Wren's initial instinct at the contact is to tense up and hiss the assistance away, but she managed to restrain herself on the promise that once she's been guided once, she'll never have to be again. Is it something that will actually hold any weight? Logically, no. It might take her more than one walk through to be able to instinctually know where she can walk without bumping into something, but she's allowed to lie to herself all she wants, thank you very much.
"I'm glad to be back," she comments in lieu of saying thank you for the welcome home. 'Thank you' had never been something she was very good at, and dying did not change that fact. Berryshine's assurance that she wouldn't have to go into a lot of detail is, for the most part, useless. What does Wrenseeker care if she has to give details? She's felt.... weirdly detached from the event that killed her. But less explanation meant she could get out of here quicker and that was fine by her. Stars, her head still kinda hurts.
"Some stupid bird was fighting me for a fish in the mountains. Big fish, mind you, that river was pretty fast and I guess the bigger ones don't mind that. Anyway, dumb bird tried to steal what I had on the bank, I fought it off 'n it clawed me good in the eyes 'n dropped me on some rocks. Think that's the part that killed me - the dropping, I mean. Woke up buried and with my head pounding. Dizzy, but dunno if that was from the headache or literally comin' back to life." She explains, feathery tail coming to rest on top of her paws as she tilts her head down to 'look' at where she thinks Berryshine might be.

Berryshine had just been sweeping away some debris of herbs and moss (everything was so crumbly in leaf-bare, dry and withered), when Pearlshine's voice reached her. Turning around, the medicine cat padded into the common area from her storage, tail tip twitching in greeting.
"O-Of course, Pearlshine. Come on in." Berryshine tilted her head, green eyes instinctively flicking over the warrior's pelt; assessing for injuries or ailments, as usual. Nothing seemed to be outwardly wrong, but there was a look in Pearlshine's face that indicated worry and... perhaps pain? Or something else?
"You seem troubled. W-What can I help you with?" The brown-furred she-cat asked kindly, hoping her calm demeanor would help ease whatever tension Pearlshine was facing.

But what could even a medicine cat do for that?
Berryshine had hardly heard Starrypaw's presence; she'd been distracted more often than not these days, lost in thought over recent events in her Clan. Cobwebstorm's self-exile, wondering if she was okay, and worries of war from ThunderClan... it was a recipe for anxiety that the medic was all too familiar with.
But the soft voice and swish of the young apprentice's fur alerted her, and the medicine cat turned, ears perking. Starrypaw was always a quiet yet sweet cat, at least from what Berryshine had seen of her. But the apprentice looked nervous, her voice so soft it was hardly audible despite the den being nice and quiet.
Immediately concerned, Berryshine padded over, settling in front of Starrypaw. She tilted her head, looking over the apprentice; at first, the medic was confused by her words. Blood? Was she injured now? But a quick assessment, even in the dimness of her cozy den, showed that the young cat was wound-free. But the longer that the medicine cat looked her over, she did notice that Starrypaw was particularly... thin. Many young cats were quite thin, especially as they ran around more than they ate as eager young apprentices. But Starrypaw had always been a bit small, even for her stature.
And it was at that moment that she recalled some whispers she'd heard around camp; the herbalist was no gossip, but one couldn't help overhearing some mutters and brazen comments here or there. Many had commented that they hardly saw Starrypaw eat, if at all. Was that its own concern, or something related to this? Her keen mind was starting to put the pieces together, but Berryshine played it safe for now, her gaze soft as she tried to meet Starrypaw's eyes in the dark.
"Hello, Starrypaw... I-I'm happy to help you with whatever you're facing." Her voice was gentle, trying to be as soothing as possible for the young cat who was clearly nervous or hesitant in some way. "B-But I'm afraid I'm a bit confused... would you mind telling me more? By a 'problem', do you mean... a fear, perhaps? An aversion? A-And is it your blood, or others'...?" Berryshine hoped her various questions might pinpoint a decisive thought for Starrypaw. She herself had been a bit wary of blood from her first exposure to it as a kit, though she had clearly been desensitized over time once she'd became Mistyshard's medicine apprentice all those moons ago...

Berryshine saw Splashcloud's immediate reaction; the queen looked to be in a level of despair, grief clouding in her eyes. Immediately the medic stepped forward, placing a comforting touch of her tail on Splashcloud's shoulder, her eyes soft and sympathetic.
"I-I know... I'm sorry, Splashcloud," the medic repeated, her voice quiet in the den. The sorrow felt thick, and she hoped the little kit beside them wouldn't be too shaken by it. "S-Sometimes... these things just happen, for no reason good or bad. We can't always understand the ways of StarClan, but... t-they're watching us, and little Flutterkit too." Berryshine did her best to sound reassuring; her own faith in StarClan never wavered, but with the recent Starcave incident, she just prayed that her words were correct... and that their warrior ancestors could still see them, watch over them.
"I'll be here for you both, a-and perhaps we can work on some things together... t-to help her learn how to be a Clan cat, e-even if she can't see." This wouldn't be the first blind cat in their Clan, though Berry still had yet to help one out so personally. Her voice was lilted with hope, giving a comforting yet somber half-smile to the queen.

Berryshine hummed in acknowledgement here or there as Wrenseeker began to explain, her whisker brows creased in sympathy; not that the silver-smoke she-cat could see her expression, of course, but the medicine cat wore her emotions on her proverbial sleeve. No doubt some of it leaked into her tone when she next spoke, even though Berry knew in the back of her mind that the resurrected warrior likely wouldn't do well with anything akin to 'pity'; no, it wasn't quite that. Berryshine was just genuinely sorrowful that her Clanmate had suffered such a gruesome fate and had gone through what she did. But she also still felt a lingering sense of wariness around the bold warrior, knowing it wouldn't do well to be overly doting now.
"That's... awful," Berryshine murmured with a frown, shaking her head. Her green eyes flicked over Wrenseeker's pelt, at least relieved to see her injuries were apparently limited to her eyes... and whatever pounding remained in her skull. "I know y-you're strong, but any cat having to endure that... stars. Well, I-I'm glad StarClan was merciful enough to send you home." She meant it, all things considered; Wrenseeker was a strong and fiery presence, hopefully adding some vigor to the downtrodden Clan that'd seen better days.
She gently tapped Wrenseeker's muzzle with her paw, a silent but non-invasive gesture to tip her head back. "Y-Your eyes look mostly healed, but there m-might be some parts open to infection... I'm just going to put on some celandine for them in case. I-It might sting a little," she warned, beginning to crush up the celandine with both her jaws and paws, pooling the flower's juices together into a dock leaf. Carefully curling it so as to lose as little of the juice as possible, Berryshine did her best to take the leaf between her jaws, tipping it so that there was a gentle but steady trickle that leaked into Wrenseeker's eyes and the surrounding gashes. Some of them still looked a little irritated, so better safe than sorry.
"A lot's happened, even since you died..." The medicine cat added almost absently as she worked, like it was a passing comment, though her soft voice held an unusual weight to it. A quiet sigh escaped her as she set the now-emptied dock leaf back down, gently pressing some cobweb over the scarred gashes so as to keep as much of the celandine in there as possible and further shield the sensitive flesh from exposure. "Your head... t-tell me about it. It still hurts, even now? And you're dizzy... any other symptoms?" Berryshine echoed with a frown, wanting to make sure she had a good grasp on what type of injury she might be facing here. If it had been enough to initially kill Wrenseeker, the medic had no doubt that a persistent ailment may be present, at least something she'd have to be careful with treating since it'd be new to her...
