Berryshine softly purred in amusement at Mosspaw's blissfuly blank, happy stare. Like she was just happy to be there and learning. It was endearing and warmed her chest a bit.

"No problem. L-Like Primroseadder was hinting, this flower is a name as well as a color. Marigold," she mewed, pushing the small, orange-and-yellow plant towards the apprentice so she could get a good sniff. "T-This herb is very important to my work, so you might hear me sending for it o-on nearly every herb patrol. I chew it up into a mixture, called a poultice, and put it on wounds — i-it's to help fight off infection, which is a sickness that can come if your wounds aren't properly cleaned."

The medicine cat's voice was a rare note of (mostly) smooth and confident, listing out her knowledge with an open, warm expression. She watched Mosspaw to make sure the apprentice was listening before pushing forward a ball of moss next, whiskers twitching.

"Next is your namesake," she chuckled softly, flicking her skinny tail. "Every cat knows moss, a-and we use it for plenty of things... nests, mouse bile for the elders' ticks, bringing cats water since it's so absorbent... w-with that in mind, any guesses as to what I might use it for?" Berryshine tilted her head, curious on if the apprentice would guess correctly.

Mosspaw listened intently, absorbing every drop of information. She leaned forward to sniff the marigold before it was pushed aside.

"Uhhh, do you use it to clean wounds?" she asked, tilting her head and tucking one of her paws underneathe herself.

''That, and a lot more of other purposes,'' Primroiseadder pointed out with a wave of her tail. ''Moss can be used to soak with water and can be taken to those who need it. Moss is used for bedding. Moss is used to staunch bleeding.''

She grunted. ''I know you, Mosspaw. Don't think for even a heartbeat that I will let Owlstar named you Mossblood. I know you will think about askin' her that,'' the warrior huffed. ''I think Mossflower or Mossblossom suit you more.''

"Plugh!" she said. "Mossflower? Mossbloom? Yuck!" she exclaimed.

Berryshine nodded to Primroseadder's description of moss' uses. "Yes... to staunch bleeding, you take a patch of moss and press it onto a wound. That's something that could s-save somecat's life," she added, pawing forward a moss ball and gently applying pressure to the apprentice's leg as an example. "If a cat is injured, usually the first thing you want to do is make sure to s-stop the bleeding. Too much blood loss can be deadly, even if you manage to otherwise save a cat."

Then her expression lightened up from the serious description as Primroseadder made the joke about Mossblood. The medicine cat let out a little purr of amusement, glancing between the two. "Mosspaw doesn't seem too keen on your suggestions," she mused, giving Primroseadder a humored glance. "Perhaps something less... floral?"

Then she flicked her tail, grabbing the tiny bunch of goldenrod and pawing it over to Mosspaw. "Y-You guessed that moss might clean a wound? Technically not, but we do have other herbs for that. Like goldenrod... careful, don't stick your nose in it too far like I did the first time. I was sneezing for the rest o-of the day," she added with a quiet chuckle.

Primroseadder let out a purr of amusement at Berryshine's comment. ''If she doesn't like the suggestions I gave out, she could always keep up the tradition 'n take on my namesake as 'er suffix, like I did with Adderstrike,'' It was clear that the warrior was joking, her eyes teasing as she glanced at Mosspaw. Primroseadder's whiskers twitched happily as she remembered the shock on Adderstrike's face whenever Stormstar had announced her warrior name. ''I'll always appreciate Stormstar for doin' that for me. But if Mosspaw doesn't want to, then I'll always be able ta convince another apprentice of mine ta do so.''

''Don't want ta be sneezin' the rest of the day,'' the dark-cream-and-white warrior agreed, tone happy. ''Otherwise another warrior would send ya straight back ta Berryshine 'n she'll have ta determine that ya just stuck ya nose in some herbs of 'ers.''

Mosspaw glanced between the two before sniffing the herb lightly- and still sneezing.

"I sniffed it gentle I swear!" she quickly said worriedly.

Berryshine nodded good-naturedly, briefly remembering Primroseadder's warrior ceremony. She wondered what Mosspaw's name would be; the apprentice was a fun one to interact with, and it would be difficult yet interesting to think of what she—and/or Owlstar—would come up with to encompass her future warrior self.

Brushing off the thoughts for now, she chuckled at Mosspaw's vehement assurance that she'd only sniffed it gently. "The flowers aren't so tickly this season, w-when they're mostly withered... but in newleaf and greenleaf? It'll getcha." Then she flicked her skinny tail at the goldenrod again, eyes glinting. "This stuff I chew up into a mixture called a poultice. Basically, i-it's something you put onto a wound before you bind it up to help it heal. I-In goldenrod's case, it's to help clean out a wound. It's not as effective as marigold since it can't fight off infection, b-but it's still very helpful and can help save a life." She paused a moment there, waiting to see if Mosspaw had any questions.
