Pondlily leapt atop of a rock, her eyes bright. ''Kits! Gather around! I came up with a game that you all might like. We can't leave camp for it, though,'' she softened her gaze, her tail swaying behind her. ''I came up with the idea of a feather race. You will all be given a feather or a light leaf to race from one end of the camp to other, but be careful not to trip over another cat's paws!''

''You cannot touch your feather or leaf. You must blow it across camp! If you touch your feather or leaf with your paws, you'll have to sit out for a few moments, because that would be considered cheating,'' Pondlily mewed, her voice firm. ''This race is to test your breath control and your speed. The first three to cross the finish line will receive a special prize, like the first pick off the prey pile, or a small gift that you might like. The race is just for fun, so don't take it too personally if you don't win!''

HOW THIS WORKS:
- Kits are to gather around Pondlily and listen carefully.
- In my next post, Pondlily will explain the rules and each kit will receive either a feather or a leaf.
- Kits must blow their feather or leaf across camp with their breath.
- As Pondlily stated, kits CANNOT touch their feather or leaf with their paws. If they do, they will have to sit out for a moment or two as the consequences of cheating.
- The first three kits to cross the finish line will receive a special prize from Pondlily.

Cuckookit pokes his head out of the safe burrow-den of the nursery. He can faintly make out Pondlily, a darkish shape, but more importantly than that he can hear her beckoning call. A game just for him and his younger denmates...that's so nice. What a good warrior.

He hops out into the open, wincing at the ice. This stuff is the worst, but he doesn't want to miss out on the game. The little tom makes it over eventually, squinting up at Pondlily.

"You are being a sweetheart." He decides, using a word he knows means that someone is very good. "I want to play."

Mushroomkit looked up from the nursery with curious, wide eyes as the sound of the warrior. OOO I game to play! And maybe this will be a game that is much more fun than Pinekit's games and Dovekit's games! Well actually, Dovekit's games are better than Pinekit's. The russet feline got to her paws and turned to the empty air beside her, "Come on, Dovekit! This looks like a lotta fun, don't you think!" After a moment of silence, and no response, Mushroomkit's ears flickered and she started towards where she spotted another kit already coming along to play.

"Me and Dovekit will play!" She called out excitedly, finding a spot to sit down near Pondlily and Cuckookit. She hoped that this game would be fun and she wouldn't get hurt, unlike when she started to play games with Pinekit and he hurt her with his claws. That wasn't fun. "Uhm... Pondlily, miss, Pondlily?" The kitten started shyly, looking to the empty space to her right for a moment before continuing with what she was saying, "Dovekit wants to know if this game doesn't having any hurting in it? The uhm.. other day, I was playing a game and I didn't know it was a hurting game and I cried.. Dovekit just wants to make sure that won't happen again."

── .✦ ➜ The hound hadn't meant to pay much attention to the event. He was a big boy who had NO interest in kit games. He was very mature and grown. Still, when Pondlily mentioned prizes...The hound had to take a moment to reflect. A small gift one might like. Houndpaw liked BONES. He hadn't managed to collect any bones, so this seems like by a good opportunity.

He was by all means technically kit. Apprentices were six moons and older, usually, but he was just that cool he got to be an apprentice EARLY. Cuz Mama loved him. Still, Houndpaw decided he could be Houndkit for one more day to get a prize. He liked races, too. And they had NEVER done a race with prizes when he was a kit! It seemed only right.

So, the chocolate brown tom skittered up with the rest of the kits, attempting to appear as small as possible.

Buzzardkit watched from Nightshiver's side as Thistlekit and Mushroomkit left the nursery, heading towards Pondlily after her call. A feather blowing race? It wasn't something that Buzzardkit thought was all too fun, or important, but the emphasis of breath control got her interested. Surely that was an important skill to becoming a warrior.

She pushed herself up and gave her mother a head rub. Buzzardkit wasn't interested in the prize over the skill that could be gained, but she might know a few kits who would like it. "Twilightkit, Vixenkit, Wispkit, Coldkit, Cottonkit, Grubkit and Bonekit," she mewed, forgetting to raise her voice. "I'm going to go over to Pondlily for the feather race. You can come too, if you want."

They might not have heard her, with how quiet she spoke, but she still hoped the message got through. Even at her age, Nightshiver was still doing most of the talking for Buzzardkit. She still looked forward to being an apprentice and all, she just didn't look forward to leaving Nightshiver for so long throughout the day, or having to talk with anyone other than her family.

Ooooooh, game time! Erminekit likes games! At least, he thinks he likes games. Erminekit can't really remember the last game he played. He likes feathers, though, and he likes leaves too!! Hopefully he's on team feather. There's one little complication, though....

"What.... cheeeeeeeee-ting?" He asks, overly sounding out the word.
